Call for harsh action against murderer Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele has called for harsh action against a man who allegedly killed his wife and cut of her head in an alleged muthi murder in Daveyton during February 2013. The suspect was caught by police on a Monday night after one of his children blew the whistle. It is alleged that before he killed his wife, the suspect told his children to go to their room. The woman was then murdered in the couple’s bedroom. The man was arrested
as he was trying to get rid of the torso after having cut off his wife’s head and wrapped it in a plastic bag. He apparently told the police that the deed was committed for muthi that would have made him rich. “Here is someone who has not only killed his wife, but has also committed a major crime against his children? Poor children now have to undergo un-ending therapy just because someone who is supposed to be looking after them decided to end their mother’s life in such
barbaric fashion in their presence. This is one of the most barbaric, heinous and sick incidents I have ever been exposed to in my life. What is this world coming to when you have people who can do such crazy things against another human being especially the one person who has given you children and you claim to love?,” said Gungubele. Despite his anger, Gungubele has called for calm in Mayfield Extension 5 appealing to people not to take the law into their hands.
“I do understand that the community is angry right now. However, doing another wrong will not give us a right and therefore let us all have faith in our justice system now that the suspect is behind bars. This shocking and cruel incident has outraged the whole community of Mayfield, Daveyton This individual must face the full might of the law so that any other person thinking of committing such a crazy crime get to know what awaits them,” Gungubele concluded.

I have recently become very aware of how many folk seem to be giving up on life – I do not mean that they want to commit suicide (although some do) but rather that they are giving up on the life and goals that they are living for. In today’s world our young folk generally do not persevere with the work that they are doing and hop from one job to another, usually for extra money but often just because they do not really know what they want to do with their lives. I was speaking to a colleague of mine this last week and he was sharing how his daughter had so many different ideas of what she is going to do (she is in matric) and when he shared with his children that she must make up her mind because her career decision is “long term” his eldest daughter said “Dad you have got it wrong, in today’s life we work at one job for a while and then move to another”. His eldest daughter is one hundred per cent correct – but I wonder how many children realize that as they get older they are going to find that they are still on the “bottom” or at best “middle” rung of the ladder – you need to establish yourself in a job and persevere – in that way you grow and in that way you get promoted to senior positions. If you speak to many older folk you will find that the men worked in one or two companies for their whole lives – and many climbed the corporate ladder – even without qualification. My other concern is that too many people carry this character into their own life. People give up too easy on working at relationships, study, family life….the list just goes on and on. No wonder there are so many folk getting divorced and also so many people (men and women) having affairs. As we look at today’s life I guess we need to ask the question: “Is this tendency correct or
Rev Goddess, Heidelberg Methodist Church is the more “stable” tendency correct”? I feel that we need to come back to the value and standard on which life should be based. When we look at Biblical times we see how successful people were when they remained faithful to God, their calling on life and also focused on living a life as Christ wanted them to live. The lessons we learn from biblical times is one of perseverance. We do not see or hear of people jumping form one job to another. Jesus had two jobs (carpenter and then his ministry life), Paul had two jobs, Moses had two jobs – and the list goes on. We do however see that some people like Joseph had more than two jobs but the work that he was doing was not money driven but rather in answer to God’s call on his life. The stories of perseverance that inspire me are the stories of the lady who wanted to be healed and persevered until she touched Jesus’ garment – and she was healed. What about Zacchaeus – he wanted to see Jesus and so he ran ahead of the crowd and climbed a tree so that he could see – now that is perseverance. I am hoping that this article lights a small flame inside us all. That we would remember that Jesus is our source of strength and as we trust in Him we will be able to persevere and not give up on life. Remember that all things are possible through God.

Clenozat Generic Skills Development is a non-profit organization that was established in 2011, aimed to bridge the critical gap within graduate and unemployed matriculants which regarded as critical aspects within the workplace. Mr. Clement Khumalo a graduate from University of Potchefstroom says the unemployment statistics report revealed by labour economist Loane Sharp of ADCORP (2013), outline that “74% under the age of 24 years are unemployed, 61% are unemployed over a period of 1 year and 4.4% are South
African senior citizens also unemployed and 15 Million of them depending on social grants.” Therefore, the organization has mainly targeted unemployed matriculants of Sedibeng who has good people skills, can work in a team, think systematically, acts strategically, able to articulate organizational vision and willing to undergo lifelong learning. They are then invited to undergo ‘Generic Skills’ programmes to be sharpen with technical knowledge and to meet employer’s needs which is to transform knowledge and skills into successful workplace performance.
The student who passed psychometric tests will be required to do generic skills development training that will commence on the May 2 to August 30, 2013 and be placed in a workplace without any fees to be paid by students. Clement went on saying “Our objective is to take constructive initiative and capacitate our youth to possess employability skills rather than technological competencies. We appeal to communities, schools, individuals, government entities and other stake holders to donate with usable second hand computers, printers and chairs, flip boards etc. that might help us to pursue our goal.”
Improving management of waste The provision of efficient refuse removal services in Ekurhuleni is top priority for the Head of Department for Waste Management Services. The Metro has been criticised for inconsistent service standards, lack of expertise to drive innovation, a difficult to understand and unreliable refuse collection system. The re-engineering process is putting a spotlight into such matters which were previously overlooked and in turn had a negative effect on service delivery. Phony mechanic steals cars Duduza SAPS requires your assistance in locating Mzmani Samuel Chauke. The SAPS is investigating two cases of theft of motor vehicles that occurred in November 2012. Chauke allegedly posed as a mechanic when 2 victims left their vehicles, an Opel Corsa and an old Mercedes Benz, for repairs. He asked them to leave a deposit before he starts working, later when the victims came to collect their cars Chauke was nowhere to be found. Chauke is requested to contact the investigating officer urgently. Any person who knows the whereabouts of Chauke is also requested to furnish the police with information so that the matter can be resolved. The investigating officer is Detective Constable Sibongile Maliga who can be contacted on 011 730 4733 during office hours or on cellular 073 159 3111. Alternatively information can be passed to the Duduza Detective Commander, Captain Bheki Mhlungu, who can be contacted on 082 822 7761. Your assistance is needed to resolve the allegations.
Heavy convictions 22 Year old Fanie Radebe and 21 year old Moeketsi Thejane were found guilty at the Nigel Regional Court for Assault with intent to commit grievous body harm, kidnapping and rape. On August 16, 2009 the victims were walking in Masechaba View, Duduza, when they realised they were being followed by two men. The victims entered into the yard of a nearby house in order to escape but were grabbed and the male victim, 20 years of age, was assaulted by the suspects. They then forced him to leave his girlfriend. They absconded the scene of the assault with the female victim. The police was notified of a decomposed body in a field in Duduza. The body was later identified as the female victim abducted on the 16th. The body was removed to Government mortuary where it was discovered that there were traces
of semen on the body which was then gathered and sent for forensic analysis. Warrant Officer Billy Mabilane was then assigned to investigate the case and on August 25 received information on the where abouts of Moeketsi Thejane, one of the suspects. He searched the taverns and shebeens in the Nigel area with other members from Duduza Detective Branch, and this led to the discovery of the suspects work address. The suspect was arrested on the 27 by Warrant Officer Mabilane. On the 28, after receiving more information, the second suspect, Fanie Radebe, was traced and arrested in Balfour. Fanie was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment on charges of assault with intent to commit grievous body harm, kidnapping and rape while Moeketsi Thejane was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment for assault with intent to commit grievous body harm and kidnapping.

The toll adjustments are indicative of all conventional toll plaza’s in South Africa and
is not applicable to the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project. The traditional vehicle classes (i.e. four classes) for the conventional toll plazas still apply and the discounts are still applicable per toll plaza as per the normal rates. Vandalists target realty companies Vandalists have been targeting realty companies such as Markon by smashing advertisements, throwing stones through empty houses, windows on weekends, some may argue that it is innocent fun, but since the beginning of this year 20 -25 standing advertisements have been destroyed. Markon pays R30 for one of these plates which means the vandalists have cost the realty company over R600. Nic an employee at Markon realty says these advertisements do not just help the company they also help the community with less expensive deals on houses. We as a community must stand together against poverty and must encourage businesses for lower prices. Atleet van formaat met buiten gewone prestasies kuier by sy ou skool en besoek die dorp waar hy opgegroei het. Willem Coertzen is gebore in 1982. Hy het groot geword op die plattelandse dorpie Nigel en sy skool loopbaan aan die Hoër Volkskool op Heideberg voltooi. Sy talent as ‘n briljante atleet het hom gehelp om saam met die bestes by die Olimpiese spele kragte te meet. Soos dit maar in enige sport soort gaan het hy ‘n besering opgedoen, wat sy loopbaan as professionele atleet geknou het. Hy het op 21 Februarie 2013 ‘n toepraak by Hoër Volkskool gelewer. Hy het die leerders meer vertel oor sy loopbaan en die beserings wat hy as atleet opgedoen het en hoe dit negatiewe kommentaar by die publiek opgelewer het. Ten spyte van al die negatiewe praaitjies het hy sy kop omhoog gehou en harder gewerk en met die aanhouer wen resep deurgedring. Hy het bly glo in sy talente en dit nie ongesiens verby laat gaan nie. Na ‘n lang stryd en met baie inspanning het

hy sy droom as professionele atleet begin uit leef. Sy motivering was dat elkeen moet vashou aan sy drome en ideale en nooit handdoek moet ingooi nie. Die jong atlete is beslis geinspireer om te groei en die beste onder die bestes te word.
