Employees’ protests The Group Five Gas Plantation on the Poortjie road, between Nigel and Heidelberg, raised some questions as the labourers marched up and down the R42 on Monday morning 4 March, the strike continued until Wednesday 6 March. Though the protesters moved in a large group no harm or major disturbances were done to any businesses. In the morning the group marched into the streets and by mid day they continued their quest at the entrance of the plantation. A variety of protesters said that they are not getting paid what they were promised in

their contracts. When asked what the management said about the strike, they allegedly told the labourers that they do not want to talk to them and that they must get back to work. On Monday afternoon the protesters set fire to a pipe at the entrance of the site, there were police officers and a few security guards but no sign of any manager, this was also the case on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Rekord invited Group 5 to comment on the merrits of the protest, but at the time going to press they still did not comment.

Little thank you note I would really like you to print my little thank you note. I was on the road between Heidelberg and Henley on Klip yesterday when I hit a big stone. It burst the back tyre on my car and damaged the front tyre as well. I am disabled so I could not get out of my car to try and stop another passing car to help me. My husband and friends could not come and help me immediately and I had this sinking feeling that I was going to have to sit in my car in the heat of the afternoon for hours. Out of nowhere two men stopped in a white bakkie and asked if I needed help. Without hesitation I said yes and they came over to check the damage on my car. They helped control traffic and guided me onto the side of the road that was safer for them to work. There they changed the back tyre. When they were done they guided me back onto the road and said if I travel slowly I should make it back to Henley on Klip safely enough with the damaged front tyre. I followed their advise and got home safely. I didn’t get to thank you properly, Karl and Wynand. You’ve restored my faith in my humankind. Marcelle Bassingthwaighte

Rev Goddess, Heidelberg Methodist Church I think everyone would agree that patience brings peace. When we are patient with the things happening in our lives we have a sense of calm. If this is the case then impatience must lead to the opposite of peace and that in my mind is stress. If you think of all the times that you have experienced stress you will see that impatience, in some or other way, was also involved. I would like to give some tips on how to become more patient in our day to day living. In other words these tips will help you to live a less stressful life. The first thing that we notice with impatience is that people want everything to go their way and only their way. While this has become a natural phenomenon in our modern day life it often, if not always, leads to stress. The fact is that when a person wants something to go their way the result is generally a positive experience in their lives. The two questions that we need to ask at this point are: Is my way the only way and are the people involved in the project capable of doing what I expect/have asked. To look at the first question I would like to challenge us all to take a deep breathe, stand back and think through what is being proposed. What others may be suggesting and wanting to do could have exactly the same results and may even be better than your idea. We tend not to look at other ways to do something and rather “lose it” than be open to suggestions. By pausing and looking at what is happening and unfolding logically I can promise that you will “de-stress” your life and patience will become part of your life rather than impatience. The second question is one where many leaders fail. I admit that I often fail and struggle here as well. Instructions are given with two expectations. The first expectation is that the person can do the job and secondly that the person will do the job in the same time as you would take to do the job and also with the same standard. Remember that you are you and other people have their own expertize and will be better than you in other things but maybe not in what you have asked the person to do. Instead of giving an instruction and expecting everything to happen just as you want why not rather use this sort of language: “I need #### to be done by Friday, do you feel that you are able to do this for me?” In this way you have allowed the person to make the judgement and if they have a problem you can then ask them why they would not be able to complete the task and you can then help them to achieve the goal. Maybe they are not sure what you want, maybe they feel that they are not able to do the work in time or maybe they need some guidance on what procedure to follow. In asking this question the stumbling blocks can be overcome and everyone’s stress levels drop. Further to this take some time to put yourself in the shoes of the person doing the work and see if you would be able to do it – and enjoy it. It may be a good idea to work with the person in certain projects and in that way you will help them complete the task and you would also understand their capabilities better. At the end of the day stress is created by our own doing – take time and look at life logically. In this way you will become more understanding and patient and your stress levels will drop.

Woman raped On March 2 2013 around 03:00 in the morning a 21 year old woman was walking from Angelo Mall past the robot to her friends’ house in Nigel. As she was walking along Station Road in Nigel, two black males approached her and offered to accompany her to her friends house. She told them that she is fine and prefers to walk alone, but they insisted saying that a lady should never walk alone at night. She thought they were just being friendly, whilst walking they started to touch her. She told them to stop it but that just made them more aggressive and they started to kiss her. They took a shortcut on the railway tracks. There she was raped by one, she screamed but nobody could hear her. After that, they left her lying there for an hour she managed to get up and continue the walk to her friend’s place. W/O Madeleine von Wielligh: “The prevention and detection of crimes against women and children remains a police priority. The Nigel Policing Area strives to send a strong message to offenders that no crimes against women and children will be tolerated.”

Non delivery Against crime together of accounts The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality calls on its customers to continue paying for their services on time. This will avoid defaulting which in turn leads to credit control measures taken by the municipality. The call by the local authority comes in the wake of the South African Post Office announcing that it has made contingency plans to continue rendering mail services, amidst the seemingly infinite post office strike that has affected delivery of mail in the last couple of weeks. Residents are encouraged to obtain a duplicate copy of their statements at their Customer Care Centres (CCC) in order to pay their accounts to prevent shortfalls in payments that can result in disconnection of services. Meanwhile, residents are reminded of the municipal basket of improved payment methods including the online system which enables our customers to view and pay their accounts online. Residents are encouraged to register on www.e-siyakhokha.co.za. The online system also enables residents to predate payments. The system immediately gives you notification of payment; it keeps records of your accounts and payments from the time you register to use this method and you can query your account while online. Alternatively, residents can also pay their accounts at the Customer Care Centres or outlets identified at the back of their state-ments or phone the numbers at the back of their previous statement.

Hier vandaan one of 5 children both his mother and gaan hy Vereeniging toe. Vir father were Italian. As Luciano grew up he had this idea about himself as a farmer, always wanting to be one in nature and fresh air, but his mother urged him to learn some kind of trade. Luciano went on to qualify as a diesel Mechanic and worked at power lines for 32 years. When he retired he did not forget his dream of being a farmer, but instead of living on an actual farm he transformed his garden to grow all kinds of vegetables, ingredients he later used to make his cheese with. In 2006 he decided to carry on with the family tradition of cheese. He makes 5 different types of cheese such as the porivolone his personal favourite, the pecorino which has a very strong taste to it, the ricotta which is a soft cheese and can go with almost any dish, a grated type of cheese and the famous mozzarella cheese. Met nadere ondersoek het sy skokkend ontdek dat twee van die vier hondjies in die hok reeds dood is, weens wan voeding. Die dame het die 2 oorlewende hondjies by die DBV versorg.
That is the message the City of Ekurhuleni will be sharing with residents of Tsakane extension 12 on Friday, March 15. This event marks the continuation of the City’s “Cleaner and Greener” road shows which are aimed at educating communities on how to live a better quality of life. The day will start off with an energized aerobics session, then litter picking, followed by an information packed programme which will focus on rodent control, solid waste management, gardening for a greener environment, environmental health by-laws and disaster management. It will take place on the open space, cnr Modjadji and Leroka street, Tsakane extension 12.

Heidelberg DBV het ‘n oproep ontvang, van ‘n dame wat die voorval gerapporteer het. Die vrou het skokkend aan die dame aan diens by die DBV vertel dat die hond voor haar huis dood gevind is. Vermoedelik het die aanvaller se man die hond doodgesteek omdat die hond sy vrou aangeval het. Volgens ‘n veearts het die hond ongeveer 48 steekwonde opgedoen asook inwendige bloeding. Die polisie was op die toneel en ‘n saak van diere mishandeling is hangend.

Onthou dat die polis nogsteeds ‘n kontrak is, waaraan albei partye moet voldoen ten alle tye. Indien daar ‘n vereiste in ‘n kontrak is waaraan jy nie voldoen het nie versleg dit egter jou saak om die weiering om te keer. Maar onthou altyd dat omstandighede ’n rol speel in enige eis. Probeer die omstandighede rondom die eis aan die versekeraar verduidelik met die hoop dat hulle sal menslikheidsgewys die situasie insien en verstaan. Indien jou poging nogsteeds nie slaag nie kontak gerus die Ombudsman vir korttermyn versekering www.osti.co.za. Die ombudsman ken en verstaan die vereistes van ‘n polis kontrak en is meer geneig om na die situasie as ‘n geheel te kyk. Sodoende sal die beste opsie om die geweierde eis om te keer plaasvind. Die webtuiste van die ombudsman bevat ook uitgewysde sake, waarin ‘n mens kan oplees oor soortgelyke eise en wat die ombudsman se beslissing was. Die groot voordeel van die Ombudsman se advies oor korttermyn versekering is dat dit koste vry aan die klient voorsien word. Enige stappe hierna waarin regsadvies verkry is, kan jou sak ruk so maak seker van die kontrak en vorige regs uitsprake voor die stap oorweeg word. Onthou om ‘n makelaar te raadpleeg vir advies om jou saak te versterk. Makelaars het gewoonlik ondervinding met die meeste verskillende weiering van eise en hoe om dit te beveg. Indien jy onseker is oor vereistes in ‘n kontrak en of dit ‘n effek kan hê wanneer die eis oorweeg word kontak ‘n versekeraar of makelaar en kry gemoedsrus daaroor voor dit te laat is.
Julia Mnguni has been working at Ferryvale pharmacy as stock control employee since Februarie 1995. Her job enquires her to know everything about the stock, what comes in, what goes out, all the contacts and deliveries. A task that is greatly unappreciated, but still a key component in a successful business. Julia raised only one child, her daughter Pinkie Mnguni who is 22 years of age. Her mother’s hard work helped Pinkie to go to college and get a degree in administration. Julia said my years at the pharmacy have been long, but I have enjoyed most of it. Julia’s colleagues at the pharmacy all have a very close bond with her and thank Julia greatly for her work and uplifting personality. Julia Mnguni

Stokperdjies ontaard in ondernemings Handgemaakte items ontpop in groot reuse entrepreneurs onderneming. Rina Beer van Nigel het ses jaar gelede nie gedink dat haar naaimasjien en omkapmasjien ‘n winsgewende besigheid tot stand gaan bring nie. Naaldwerk was Rina se stokperdjie wat sy beoefen het. Haar broerskind, Elona van der Nest het met ‘n briljante besigheidsplan vorendag gekom. Elona swanger met haar tweede kind het gedroom van unieke babakamers met toegeruste bybehore, beddegoed en als wat hiermee gepaard gaan om die babakamers in ‘n sprokieswerêld te omtower. Elona het haar eerste bestelling gekry wat bestaan het uit ‘n duvet oortreksel en bypassende kussingsloop. Rina se uitsny werk het hier begin. So het sy al die gepaste items met haar tuis naaldwerkmasjiene voltooi. Die groot geheim was die gebruik van die regte 100% katoenstof, dit was die sleutel tot die sukses. Hierna is die afrondingswerk deur Elona gedoen. Elona ‘n gebore bemarker het die eerste items bemark en talle bestellings het gevolg. Rina en Elona het verskeie babawinkels asook uitstallings besoek en Rina was verstom deur al die nuwe modes, als was vir haar vreeslik nuut en vreemd. Die hout artikels is deur ‘n paartjie gedoen wat dit slegs as stokperdjie beoefen het. Hierdie stokperdjie het so gegroei, dat dit ook ‘n besigheid tot stand gebring het. Met die babaprodukte wat die mark uit sy nate laat bars het, het gevolg gehad dat hul ‘n fabriek in Phalaborwa geopen het, wat deur Elona bestuur word. Die fabriek is toegerus met groot industriële masjiene om in die aanvraag te voorsien. Sodoende is daar vir talle mense werk geskep. Mettertyd het hul ook al die bykomstighede vervaardig en so is die onderneming, Lollipop gebore. Lollipop het sy onstaan gekry van Rina se man Leon, wat vertel dat mens kindertjies met suigstokkies assosieer. So het die besigheid gegroei en buiten die gewone bestellings is die produkte ook by die Coca Cola Dome baba expo uitgestal. Die produkte van Lollipop met hul verskeidenheid ontwerpe, materiaal en kleure maak dit moontlik dat elke stelletjie uniek is. So het hul ook hul eie katalogus en kan hulle besoek word by www.lollipopdecor.co.za. Meeste van die tyd werk hul op bestellings volgens elke mamma se skeppings idee. Mammas en oumas is baie lief daarvoor om die kleingoed so te bederf met die unieke produkte. Lollipop spesialiseer in die Zoo reeks wat baie gewild is. ‘n Standaard stel bestaan uit ‘n sesstuk en muur behangsels, lampies, speelgoedsakke, plakkers en vele meer is van die bekomstighede wat saam met die babastelle beskikbaar is. Wie sou kon dink dat stokperdjies in bekwame, professionele besighede omskep kon word. Rina en Elona vertel dat dit ‘n spanpoging is en dat die dames dit nie sonder hul wederhelftes sou kon doen nie. Vrydae is aflewerings dag vir Leon dan ry hy van oos na wes. Interessant is dat hul met slegs 10m materiaal begin het en vandag gebruik hul 6 rolle van 200m. Lollipop produkte verkoop nou landswyd asook oorsee. So getuig Rina dat hul sukses toe te skryf is aan die goedheid van ons Hemelse Vader.

Fietsryers pak 1 690km aan Vyftien lede van Impala Fietsryklub in Springs, het die ysterperd opgesaal, om ten bate van Dr WK Du Plessis Skool in Springs, die langpad van 1690 km aan te pak Kaapstad toe. Dit is die klub se derde toer Kaap toe ten bate van liefdadigheid. Dr WK Du Plessis is ‘n loopbaangerigte skool wat ‘n hoë graad van gespesialiseerde onderrig verskaf aan leerders met Epilepsie en leergestremd-heid. Die toer duur ses dae sal en die ryers het op Saterdag 2 Maart weggespring. Die eerste dag gaan die trappers 390 km aflê tot by Bloemhof. Die sesde dag sal die ryers in Bloubergstrand arriveer waar hulle met hulle families verenig. Wat die groep interessant maak is dat daar twee dames ingesluit is by die span. Die jongste ryer in die groep is 26 jaar en die oudste 74 jaar. Behalwe vir die fondsinsameling is daar ook twee bergfietse wat gewen kan word met ‘n gelukkige trekking wat sal plaasvind op 20 Maart. Cansa Shavathon is an event where everybody can show their support for those who suffer from cancer. The Cansa group has this event every year across South Africa. Supporters who does not want to shave their hair has the alternative option of just spraying their hair in all different colours. In Nigel this event was held at Angelo Mall on Saturday 2 March.

Nigel rugbyklub het ‘n suksesvolle rugbydag op 2 Maart 2013 by John Vorster Stadion aangebied. Die eerste wedstryde het afgeskop met die jongspan wat uitgespeel het vir die Spur reeks. Rugby aanhangers het ‘n vol program van vroeg tot laat geniet. Nigel se spelers het hulself oortref en briljante rugby gespeel. Na vele sweet en harde verdediging het die eerstes Secunda met 29 -19 geklop. Die tweedes het die stryd verloor met 6-21. Nigel se derdes het hul teenstaanders ore aangesit en wen die Secunda span met 19-0. Die 0/21 span van Nigel speel soos ysters en vernietig hul opo-nente. Sasol se 0/21 is geklop met ‘n wegloop telling van 59-0.
