Het jy in jouself gesterf en vra jy Jesus hoe jy elke situasie met jou dogter moet hanteer. Hoe praat jy met jou dogter, die aanmerkings wat jy maak is dit opboudend of maak dit seer. Breek jy jou kind se selfbeeld af? Kinders leer nie met hul ore nie, maar met hul oë en doen wat hul sien jy doen! Met daardie goedige gespot druk jy ‘n dolk in jou dogter se hart. Die woord sê voed jou kind op nie voeter jou kind op nie. Watter pa het die moed om vandag sy man te staan en nog jammer te sê. Meneer is jy ‘n tiran in jou huis en vloek en skel jy die heeldag. Is jou ja, ja en jou nee, nee. As jy God se woord spreek en doen sal jou kinders jou voorbeeld navolg. Jy kies watse pa jy wil wees. Statistieke bewys dat 63% van die jeug selfmoord pleeg wat uit vaderlose huise kom. Wangedrag is 85%, hoërskool uitsakkers
en is jy die rede hoekom jou pa die bekommerd is. Begeer jou maats die verhouding wat jy en jou pa het. Tiaan het die oggend afgesluit deur die meisies aan te moedig om te volhard om aan Jesus vas te hou en die satan geen plek te gee nie! Hy het ook verder gesê as ons die skrifte ken sal ons die satan kan uitoorlê, ons dwaal omdat ons die Woord van God nie ken nie. Jy kan slegs die krag van God ken as jy Jesus self ken. Many people are talking of the article published on KROKODIL. It has come as a shock to many and I thank the REKORD for publishing the article. But there is much more to the drug scene than KROKODIL. The latest statistics afforded me indicates that 1 out of every 3 people are either using or experimenting with drugs. No that is SHOCKING. The fact is that if many of us look at our own families of four we realize that the risk is very real that one of our family members are using or experimenting with drugs. Many of you are now saying “Not us – none of OUR family are on drugs”. Well here is the sad truth – you are possibly completely wrong. I would like to look at a few aspects relating to drug (and alcohol) abuse and I hope that the folk out there take this seriously. The first fact is that we THINK we know our children but the truth is that many of them are taking drugs but you as parents do not know it. In the last two years the average age of children starting to take drugs has moved from 17 to 14. Now here is another scary thought. The reason that parents do not pick this up until it is too late is that they do not take the time to learn more
about drugs. One of the reasons given is because they feel that it will never reach or touch their family. WRONG – look at the stats and the facts that I and many other counsellors/institutions can verify. The second reason given is that they do not want to be seen at a drug information seminar because people will think that they or their family members have a drug problem. Wrong again. I believe that it is our duty to know about these things so that we can not only help our own family but also other families, friends and colleagues. There will be a DRUG AWARENESS SEMINAR on FRIDAY 2nd AUGUST at 18h30 (starting at 18h45) at the HEIDELBERG METHODIST CHURCH. Be there and bring your entire family – you owe it to them and to your friends, family and colleagues. The second point that I would like to look at is that when people read the shocking truth about how drugs work and the damage they do to your body one would think that people will give up immediately and/or never ever start. Wrong again. The peer pressure and social pressure to use drugs is enormous and it is very easy to fall for the “soft talk” of a pusher – just to try it once! This trap or “fall” into drug use and abuse is very often a result of the use of alcohol (alcohol deadens our senses and we do stupid things that we regret later). The third point is that people think that they are in control and can leave the drug whenever they need. Well they can’t. the fact

Rev Goddess, Heidelberg Methodist Church is that the drug dealers are getting clever and are spiking the drugs with other drugs to get the person hooked – and they are not aware of this. I have recently worked with someone who has only been taking dagga but when they came off of the drug their withdrawal symptoms were the same as heroin withdrawals. On further investigation it was found that the dagga was spikes with heroin. The best advice I can give anyone is this: NEVER START. Danger road may soon be lit up If you think the light poles on the NigelSprings Road have been knocked down. Then be assured that their unbalanced position is deliberate. The poles are to be replaced by concrete structures and this will hopefully alleviate future damage and theft to the lights. This is a very dangerous section of road, ending in Selcourt. This has been the scene of many
accidents, often fatal. The worst section is definitely at the Dunnottar Turn-off opposite the military base. Motorists have repeatedly appealed for traffic lights at this point, but nothing has been done. It is especially dangerous for driver coming from Springs and turning to Dunnottar and also for those crossing the busy roads to and from the military base.

KEN U KONTRAK: U versekeringsmaatskappy moet, volgens wet, vir u, na aanvang van u polis, ‘n kontrak stuur. Die wet bepaal dat dit u plig is om die inhoud daarvan te verken. Maar wie, in vandag se dae, het tyd om deur ‘n dik dokument te lees? As dít die geval by u is, kry ‘n makelaar en maak ‘n afspraak sodat u makelaar u die voorwaardes en bepalings kan verduidelik en uitlig. Dit sal nie langer as ‘n uur van u tyd in beslag neem nie en sodoende kan u gerus wees dat u versekering in plek is. BYBETALINGS: Maak seker u weet wat u bybetalings is. Moenie dat u verras word met ‘n onverwagte bybetaling wanneer u u voertuig na herstelwerk by die duikklopper wil gaan haal nie. Kyk in watter gevalle u bybetaling meer of minder gaan wees. Daar is ook opsies in plek waar u u bybetalings kan laat wegval deur ‘n hoër premie te betaal. Dan koop u u bybetaling af en u sal geen bybetalings hê indien u skade ly nie. VERANDERINGS: Indien daar enige veranderings in persoonlike omstandighede is bv. adresverandering, gereelde bestuurder van u voertuig, foutiewe alarm, ensovoorts, moet u dit onmiddellik aan u versekeringsmaatskappy verklaar. Hulle sal dan op hulle beurt die voorwaardes aanpas en/of jou inlig wat om te doen sodat jy nie in die geval van ‘n eis benadeel sal word nie. ADVIES: Versekeringsadvies is gratis. Kontak ‘n hulpvaardige makelaar en win soveel advies as moontlik in. Neem net kennis dat indien u van ‘n direkte versekeraar gebruik maak, advies moeiliker bekombaar is. U sal moontlik die maatskappy se inbelsentrum moet skakel vir advies. U vrae sal ook so gerig moet wees dat dit die nodige advies uitlok aangesien hulle u net met u navraag sal help deur net feitlike inligting te gee. OMBUDSMAN: Die Ombudsman vir kortermynversekering is ‘n gratis hulpmiddel wat u tot u beskikking het indien u voel ‘n eis het nie volgens kontrak verloop nie. U kan u saak aan die Ombudsman rapporteer en die saak sal van daar af verder hanteer word. Die Ombudsman is dus die waghond vir die publiek en beskerm u teen onbillike optrede van versekeraars. Besonderhede van die Ombudsman is ook in u kontrak beskikbaar.
The recent postal strike caught many people by surprise as no warning was given. The post office was unable to supply information as apparently post effected was from Germiston and Pretoria to the East Rand. Now that the strike is over the deliveries in many areas are down to two a week. This is causing havoc for many residents, especially when paying municipal and
telephone accounts. Most times the lights and water accounts arrive long after payment is due. Some residents in Dunnottar just guess the average amount and pay at the local post office. The alternative is to travel to Nigel, usually stand in a queue and find out how much they must pay. On some occasions bank statements arrive four at a time. Yet no-one, it seems, can give an answer as to when normal postal deliveries will be resumed.

Bees problem Be on the lookout! solved by Metro Although bees have now disappeared for the winter months, they will be back and last summer many residents had problems in their gardens. In Dunnottar bees hovered around a water meter for months and complaints went unheard. The pavement could not be mowed as the bees went on attack. But eventually the police contacted the right department, the Ekurhuleni Pest Control Unit and members came to the property immediately. It took only minutes to get rid of more than 3 000 bees in the water meter. Next summer, it is well to remember that the Metro does have experts in all aspects of pest control on residential properties including ants.
Please be on the lookout when anyone enters your shop, as two men were browsing at shoes by the Indian Plaza at First Avenue Fashion on 31 May. They were asking for 2 different sizes, as these shoes are quite expensive. Fatima, one of the owners, whom assisted the two men went to the back to get the different sizes, and when she had handed it over to try on, the men grabbed the shoes and run off. Fatima started running after them while screaming “stop those guys.” Mohammed Moolo from sound square at one of the shops by the Indian Plaza, heard the commotion and was soon on their tracks. While running away, one of the thieves decided to let go of the shoes and just threw them on the ground. At the back side where Solly’s car sales is, an owner from another shop behind, helped Mohammed to catch them, but one of them escaped. They handcuffed the thief and called the police. Every now and again there is chancers, but at the Indian Plaza they stand together. Mohammed Moolo, man of the hour.

Ouers moet ag neem van hierdie kennisgewings. ‘n Graad twee leerder het vermoedelik op een of ander wyse ‘n dwelm wat in lekkergoed versteek was ingekry. Kinders word dus gewaarsku om nie net lekkergoed of koeldrank van enige persoon te neem nie. Simptome waarna ouers kan oplet vir dwelmmisbruik is die volgende: Nuuskierigheid, eksperimentering, behoefte aan aanvaarding om “in” te wees, lae selfbeeld, tekort aan selfvertroue, neerslagtigheid, emo-sionele pyn, angstigheid, stress, verveeldheid, en mees belangrik die voorbeeld wat ons as ouers stel.
Verkragter agter tralies Motor in rylaan gekaap ‘n Man is skuldig bevind op aanklag van verkragting en is ‘n vonnis van 14 jaar gevangenisstraf opgelê. Die saak het in die Nigel Streekshof plaasgevind deur Streekshoflanddros mnr Voogt. Die ondersoekbeampte A/O Shai van Springs was tevrede met hierdie vonnis op 21 Mei 2013. Die beskuldigde is onbevoegd verklaar om ‘n vuurwapen te besit en sy naam moet in die seksuele mis-daadregister aan ge-teken word.
Poisoning of dogs Poisoning of dogs never cease. During burglaries and robberies dogs are poisoned to death. On Tuesday, May 28 three pig dogs were poisoned during the early hours of the morning in Nigel in a quiet area. While robbing a house the robbers were disturbed when a light switch turned on and they vanished from the scene without taking anything. Three months ago the neighbours dogs were poisoned. The main reason why dogs get poisoned is because burglars are anxious to steal car mags and tyres. We have no idea what terrible suffering our dogs has to go through, when poisoned. In an effort to gather statistics, victims are requested to inform the Nigel SPCA.
‘n Inwoner van Nigel is verlede week Woensdag in sy rylaan gekaap, nadat daar met sy afstandbeheer motorhek van sy huis gepeuter is. Om ongeveer kwart oor ses die aand het die inwoner by sy huis in Connaughtweg stilgehou en gewag vir die elektroniese motorhek om oop te maak. Met nadere ondersoek het die eienaar van die voertuig ‘n man by die hek aangetref, wat hom met ‘n vuurwapen gedreig het. Die verdagte het die voertuig eienaar beveel om op die grong te gaan lê. Hy het die motor sleutels van die eienaar afgeneem en in die motor gespring en daarmee weggejaag. Met ter pers gaande is die voertuig nog nie gevind nie.

Herdenking van konsentrasiekamp Heidelberg was een van die 32 konsentrasiekampe vir vrouens en kinders wat weggevoer is, nadat Lord Roberts ‘n proklamasie uitgevaardig het, op 16 Junie 1900, om hardnekkige boere se mag te verbreek. ‘n Onberekenbare lang tydperk het vir ons volk voorgelê, want 27 000 plus van ons voorsate het na die onmenslike lyding te sterwe gekom. Op Saterdag 15 Junie gedenk Heidelberg die gebeure. ‘n Stewige perdekommando met ‘n gevolg gaan deur die dorp na die konsentrasiekamp kerkhof beweeg. Om 11:00 sal die verrigtinge ‘n aanvang neem. ‘n Hartroerende program sal dit vir elke volksgenoot die moeite werd maak om dit by te woon. Kom ons toon ons medelewing deur in groot getalle by mekaar te kom. Bring u eie stoele saam. Almal is welkom en ons hou ‘n bring en braai na die geleentheid op die feesterrein. John 15:7 But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! (NLT) Most people dream of a life where every single prayer is answered. Sadly, we very seldom experience this. In Matthew 7:7 Jesus promises that whenever we ask, we will receive, when we seek, we will find and when we knock the door will be opened. Likewise in John 15:7 He says that it is possible to live a life where we can ask God for whatever we want and it will be granted. The question then stands: What is the key to this kind of freedom where every prayer is answered and every desire granted? The answer to this very important question is found in John 15:7 – if we remain in Christ, and His words in us, we can ask for anything, fully trusting that we will receive it. Very simply put, when our hearts are aligned with the heart and purpose of Christ, we want what He wants. Once this happens, God grants us the desires of our hearts. An ‘all-in’ life requires of us to lose ourselves completely in God, to let go of everything ‘us’ and to embrace the Lord, His way, His purpose and His desires in total surrender. John prays in 3 John 1:2 that the people will prosper in all things as their souls prosper. Our connection with God is foundational to success in every other area of our lives. In John 15:4-5 Jesus goes so far as to say that it is impossible for us to do anything without Him. When we approach God in prayer, we sometimes feel unworthy and even guilty to ask with the expectancy that God will answer. The fact of the matter is however that we
are completely devoid of the capacity to accomplish anything worthwhile without God! Once we acknowledge this, we can approach God with boldness, knowing that we are dependent on Him for every success. Jesus gives us the key to a fruitful life that by default includes answered prayer (John 15:16). Fruitfulness is a natural outflow of abiding in Christ. In this context the word ‘abide’ refers to a ‘continual state of habita-tion, an unbroken connection, communion or relationship’. Abiding in Christ means that we live in an intimate, uninterrupted relationship with Him.Within the context of this close connection, we can ask for anything we want and receive it from God. On a human level it makes sense to us that answered prayer should be a reward for living the way God wants us to. Sometimes this way of thinking sets us up to start performing in an attempt to have our prayers answered. Jesus declares this a fallacy when He teaches that our prayers will be answered as we live in relation to Him. In our relationship with Him we increase in understanding of God’s heart and His purposes. As we grow in rela-tionship with Him, we increase in the knowledge of His will and our desires align with His purposes and plans. More than anything, God’s heart is for others. Tariffs will be increased Load shedding warning
Ekurhuleni residents will now pay more for certain tariffs, according to the budget tabled recently. The good news is that there will be no increase in assessment rates this year. There is, however, a new valuation roll which is being introduced as per municipal property rates. This will result in an increase to most property owners. The residential revote of 150 000 will remain unchanged. For Electricity, a decrease of 7.69% and 8.5% increase for water for the residents and
businesses is proposed. A 15% increase die solid waste removal is proposed. To assist the poor, a rebate of 15% will be granted to all residential households with a property value of less than R300 000 and a stand size of less than 300 square meters. There is a 7,6% increase for sanitation for both residents and businesses. Electricity tariffs will increase by 7,69 and 8.5% proposed. The proposed increases are complain to the guidelines as set out by NERSA. The increases for bulk purchases will be 7,3%.

As temperatures begin to drop, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has warned its consumers of possible load shedding due to the increased demand on the electricity network. The municipality has published a load shedding schedule on its website which consumers can print out to see how they will be affected in the event power supply has to be shed. A copy is on page 15 in this issue. Consumers are advised to use electricity wisely by taking practical steps like switching geysers off during peak hours, switching off lights in rooms that are not occupied, using gas heaters instead of electric ones etc. Load shedding happens when there is insufficient power station capacity to supply the demand (load) from all the customers; the electricity system could become unstable, possibly resulting in a national black-out. To avoid this, Eskom can either increase supply or reduce demand. To increase supply, Eskom will run its power stations at maximum available capacity. In addition to the coal and nuclear plant, hydro and open cycle gas turbine stations are used at peak times when the demand is high. To reduce demand, Eskom will first call on
cus-tomer contracts that allow for supply to be reduced or interrupted for specific periods and durations. If this is not enough, Eskom is forced to cut supply to all other custo-mers. This could be done through either scheduled or emergency load shedding. “During scheduled load shedding parts of the network are switched off according to a predetermined schedule, with the impact spread equitably over the customer base. Shedding is predictable and allows for customers to plan accordingly. Control centres will shed load using emergency switching in order to protect the network. This will be less predictable and all customers can expect to be affected at any time from no onwards till the winter season passes. The JP Abreu six-a-six side soccer day The second JP Abreu Soccer Day to help a teenager’s recovery after a tragic family shooting that left his father and paternal grandparents dead is taking place on Monday, June 17. Family members, church communities, schools, work colleagues and sports teams the opportunity to not only have a fun and active day outdoors, can take part in this event. JP’s recovery has been miraculous. After being shot in the head in 2012, he was declared brain dead and taken off life support. But the young man, a strong Christian, defied the odds and started breathing on his own. Now, just over a year later, he is back at school and once again showing interest in sport, a life-long passion.

Safety tips Ensure that all doors are locked at all times, and that windows are closed when you are not at home. Large dogs serve as a deterrent. At least one dog should be trained to sleep inside the house. If you leave your residence, inform your family/neighbours of your intended destination, time you expect to return and the route you will be driving, especially if you reside in a rural area. Ensure that tools such as axes, spades, picks, ladders, etc that can be used in an attack, are locked away when you do not use them. Vary your daily routine. Get into the habit of not immediately falling asleep after switching off the lights. Remain awake for a while. You should not be visible in the bedroom from the outside when you are asleep. Always keep a torch nearby at night and when you use it, ensure that you do not give away your position. If you are unsure about the security status of your home after returning eg your dogs do not come to the gate, do not enter your home. Contact your neighbour to assist you in securing your home. Involve employees as they are part of the family/team. Employees must be involved in maintaining security on an equal footing. Report suspicious behaviour and information to the South African Police Service. Clear the areas around the gates of bushes and other hiding places. Do not employ casual workers without a reference.

Golden oldie stamp collector
New stamps for South Africa issued in 2013
Lesley Leesmann started collecting stamps since she was 8 years old. Lesley is a passionate stamp collector and she said it is most stress relieving and interesting to observe the vast variety of different kind of stamps. Like any other stamp collector Lesley always finds a way to use every stamp. Lesley also has a collection of autographed stamps. Her eyes sparkled when she told me how she met the late President’s CR Swart, who autographed her stamp book. Balloon post was used after the 1st world war, not for illegal posting, but this was a way to communicate. Rolland Hill noticed that poor people could not afford pennies to pay for the letters, so he decided the person writing the letter, should pay the penny and so he
designed a stamp, called the penny black. It was a black penny with Queen Victoria on, she was Queen of England then. In 1840 for the first time a person had to pay to post a letter. Nigel stamp club gets together every end of the month on a Saturday afternoon at the Nigel Methodist Church. They jump away with a quick quiz, just to break the ice. According to Lesley if you never have been at a stamp function, you missing out. We encourage youngsters to collect stamps and to participate in the events at Nigel stamp club. It’s all fun and games as well as getting to learn the history in a fun unforgettable way. There are support for junior stamp clubs including guidelines for youth leaders on how to start and run a junior group.

Mag die oggend se boodskap elke vader hart aanraak en dogters gehoorsaam maak aan hul pa’s en elke dogter die begeerte gee om pa se voorbeeld te volg. Winter hengeldag met kwaai wind
Sport fanatikus Die 21 jarige Julian Muller is ‘n sport fanatikus en spog met vele prestasies. Hy het gematrikuleer aan die Hoër Volkskool en sy passie vir sport het op die ouderdom van 13 in aanvang geneem. Julian het aan die Suid Afrikaanse atletiek kampioenskappe deelgeneem en is aktief in rugby, krieket en landloop. In graad 7 wen hy die 200 meter hekkies tydens die SA’s. Juffrou Kock sy laerskool afrigter het altyd hom geinspireer met die woorde “expect the unexpected.” Hierdie selfde slagspreuk gebruik Julian steeds vandag met die afrigting van sy eie atlete. Hy het reeds 9 keer aan die SA’s deelgeneem en 5 oorwinnings in verskeie items behaal. Sy gunsteling gewoonte voor elke wedstryd is die eet van sjokolade en ‘n yslike blik coke. Tydens sy skool loopbaan het hy meer as 150 medaljes verower. Een van sy groot oomblike tydens sy matriek jaar was toe hy voor 8000 toeskouers, die 400 meter hekkies gehardloop het. Met die eerste hekkie het hy gestruikel en steeds sy opponent ingehaal en as wenner uit die stryd getree en die geleentheid is op tv uitgesaai. Julian het saam met bekendes soos Oscar Pistorius, LJ van Zyl, 400 meter hekkie kampioen en Khotso Mokoena, afkomstig van Nigel, geoefen. Sy groot droom is aan die 400 meter hekkies vir Suid-Afrika deel te neem by die olimpiese spele. Julian is die oudste van ses kinders en maak geen geheim daarvan dat hy ‘n passie vir kinders het. Hy het sy diploma deur UNISA verwerf en is tans besig met sy sielkunde en onderwys graad. Huidiglik rig hy kinders van 10 tot 15 jaar af. Vroue wat vietse lyfies wil bekom kan saam Julian oefen. Een van die dames wat saam Julian oefen het 20 kg verloor in 4 maande. Julian se visie is dat elke atleet die beste in homself moet raak sien, sy sport moet geniet en in geloof staan. Julian rig af by skole en een van die min afrigters wat saam sy span oefen.
