E-toll going live Motorists without e-tags could pay double the amount without any benefit from discounts. Minister Dipuo Peters announced last week Wednesday that e-tolls in Gauteng will go live on December 3, 2013. The SA National Roads Agency (Sanral) should be allowed to start collecting toll fees in order to commence repaying the debt incur red when the roads were upgraded. Peters said all systems are in place to ensure that the system function well and that Sanral are fully equiped to fulfil this responsibility. Sanral CEO Nazir Alli said a debt collection

process has been started and motorists will receive a bill every seven days. If vehicle owners repeatedly fail to pay their bills, a summons will be issued. Governmentowned vehicles are not exempted. The first phase of the project has been completed and Gauteng motorists have enjoyed the convenience of driving on world-class highways. The evergrowing congestion on the highways was reaching crisis proportions. Three lane roads have now been expanded to five and six lanes. A high-tech travel demand system was introduced to ensure constant monitoring of traffic on the etolled road network.

Holiday club time again School term is nearly over and the holidays are here. Each year seems to go past quicker and quicker and as usual the old question of “how can we keep the children busy” comes to mind. I feel that keeping busy is one aspect but the other aspect is with what do we keep them busy. Life has become media driven and it has become too easy for us just to get some DVDs or a new computer/TV game and tell the kids to keep themselves occupied. While this creates an interest in the children’s minds it is quite honestly not very stimulating. With this in mind the Holiday Club team is very busy planning the events and themes for the December Holiday Club. While it is a lot of work it is also a big blessing to all who are involved. As I think back of the last Holiday Clubs I always wonder where they get their ideas from and how are they going to match the event with something new and as interesting. And yet every time the team surprises me with a Holiday Club that always seems to be better and bigger than the previous Holiday Club. Maybe there are some of you who are wondering how you can get involved. Well there are a number of ways. The first is to bring your primary school children to the holiday club and also to encourage friends to bring their children along. Secondly we are always looking for

Zero tolerance The City of Ekurhuleni has declared war against illegal connections. The City of Ekurhuleni has intensified its campaign to get rid of illegal connections across the municipality. To date over 17 000 electricity connections have been removed since the drive started over two months ago. On Friday November 15, 2013 the illegal connection team comprising of the Red Ant Security Services, CPI (Combined Private Investigators), Metro Police’s Cable Theft Unit and Public Order Policing Unit and SAPS lead by the municipality’s Energy Department visited Zama Zama and Peter Mokaba informal settlements in Extension 28, Vosloorus to remove illegally connected cables. The campaign has been to Mpilisweni in Thokoza, Ramaphosa in Reiger Park, KwaThema Extension 3 and 6 and the KwaThema Hostel, Langaville Extension 6 and 8, Daggafontein in Springs, and Mkantshwa informal settlement near Ergo in Brakpan. Other parts of Ekurhuleni will be visited in the next two months. Illegal connection of electricity is a major problem which has seen the municipality losing a whopping R36 million per annum due to illegal electricity connections. This translates to losses of about R2.8 million to R4.9 million which the Metro suffers per month.

In a bid to address this huge loss, the City embarked on a month-long education in campaign in September. They educated the communities about the adverse effects of illegal connections where over 30 000 were identified. The campaign has entered its second leg where the actual removal of illegal connections is being carried out. “In spite of the dangers associated with

Financial Distress Blessing without sorrow

With the upcoming festive season many consumers overspend without realising the consequences. It is important that consumers take care of this problem prior to the credit providers taking legal action, as debt counselling cannot intervene with the legal process. Legal action does not mean a summons being issued. The legal process starts with the issuing of the Section 129. This is where the debt review process will help and protect consumers and lessen their financial burden. Debt counselling is a process whereby

a consumer’s debt will be successfully restructured by a registered debt counsellor. After applying for debt counselling, the debt counsellor will contact your credit providers in order to get the necessary information. The debt counsellor will also take into consideration the consumer’s nett salary and expenses. According to this information a consumers debts will be restructured in such a way that both the credit provider and consumer benefit from the debt counselling process. The whole purpose of restructuring a consumer’s debt is to stretch the repayment period to a reasonable term and in most cases negotiating for lower interest rates in order to assist the consumer to still pay off the debts in a reasonable time frame incurring the least interest possible. It is important that consumers are aware that they are not allowed to negotiate with their credit providers in this negotiating period, as this will lead to non-co-operation from the credit providers with the debt counsellor. Within 60 businesses dates after application, the debt counsellor will apply for a court order to be granted to protect both the credit provider and the consumer. This order will then bind both the consumer as well as the credit provider to adhere to the restructured amounts and interest rates agreed upon in the negotiating stage. It is important that consumers acknowledge the fact that payments will not be distributed through the counsellor or the consumer themselves, but through a payment agency regulated by the NCR. Consumers must take note that their first payment will be distributed to the debt counsellor for their fees. The second payment will be distributed to legal fees as well as a part of it to the credit providers. From the third payment, all funds will distribute to the credit providers, but it is important that consumers take note of the fact that a debt counsellor is entitled to a monthly “aftercare” fee which will also come out of every month’s payment. A consumer will not be allowed to incure new credit agreements while being registered under debt review. When all the credit has been paid up while being registered under debt review, the debt counsellor will request all the paid up letters from the credit providers and then issue a Clearance Certificate to the consumer. Proverbs 10:22 The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it. (NLT) Very often in church, we find born again children of God that suffer extreme lack. We find such an example in 2 Kings 4:1. It is possible to be in relationship with God without experiencing the fullness of God’s blessing in our lives. Many times God’s children suffer lack because they refrain from obeying basic principles of sound financial management. In this regard, the following are of particular importance: A lack of discipline: Spending without regard for what is actually available or willingness to delay gratification when necessary. Wrong council: Getting financial advice from people who show no evidence of financial success is not wise. It is said that poor people fail to get advice while wealthy people deem it so important that they employ advisors. Spending money prematurely: Spending money that is not yet available paves the way for lack. Seeking council after the fact: Most often we tend to seek advice when things go wrong, when we are on the brink of ruin or when failure seems eminent. Wisdom is to seek advice when the information we get can launch us into greater wealth rather than just saving us from bankruptcy or guiding us through disaster. God wants f inancial freedom for His children. Finances should always be a means to a purpose rather than the purpose in itself. God never intended that we should be slaves to money. In practice, this means that money can never be the determining factor in what we do or where we are going. In the natural realm, money is the means to put substance to what we hope for. Parallel to this, faith is the spiritual currency that gives substance to what we hope for. In order to gain any form of substance, either money or faith is required. As children of God, we have each been mandated with an assignment that will require more resources than what we can generate in our own strength. God’s purpose in our lives cannot be funded by what we earn through our natural capacity. Receiving sufficient resources for purpose requires faith. The level of faith we operate on in our finances can be seen in our giving and is a determining factor in the level of success we can achieve financially. In addition to this, the extent of wealth we obtain will be determined by: The wisdom we possess: Ignorance always limits success. In accordance with the Godly wisdom we have, we will be able to acquire financial breakthrough. We can position ourselves for increased wisdom through studying the Word, submitting to

and opening ourselves up to input from our spiritual parents and learning from our mistakes. The size of our vision: A small dream will not place the required demand for great wealth. It is important to allow the dreams of God to be formed in our hearts. God’s vision and purpose is always too big for us to achieve without Him working it in and through us. In order to step into great wealth, we need to have a great vision. The level of excellence we maintain: When we increase in excellence, we will also increase in wealth. Seed determines harvest: The extent to which we live a lifestyle of sowing, determines the harvest we will reap. Ever increasing wealth requires ever increasing seed. In order to grow financially we need to determine to increase our giving on a regular basis. With consideration of the above the following foundational truths regarding finances should never be disregarded: Seek the Kingdom first: As God’s children we are in pursuit of establishing the Kingdom in any way possible. We never run after money. The tithe belongs to God: A tithe of our increase is sacred to God – set apart and never to be touched (Malachi 3:6-15). God requires of us to bring our tithe to the local church (where we receive spiritual nourishment) for the purpose of maintaining God’s work. Never love money: We pursue God’s purpose. Our hearts belong to God and for that reason our complete devotion also belongs to Him alone. Develop the habit of saving: Disciplined saving sets us up for financial growth and is a habit that should be cultivated. Impart sound financial principles to the next generation: Proverbs 22:6-7 teaches us that it is our responsibility to teach our children how to be financially smart. Without physical resources we cannot operate freely in the dream. Jesus taught substantially about the topic of money. He Himself demonstrated a life of abundance – to the degree that He was able on more than one occasion to be a blessing to multitudes of people. Even though it is evident through the Word that Jesus was never in pursuit of earthly riches, we never find Him in lack, poverty or in any way incapacitated through a lack of resources. If you are enslaved by debt, struggling in poverty or overwhelmed by the size of your financial responsibility, there is a way out! Adhere to the principles set out in the Word of God and see how the Lord shows Himself strong on your behalf – also in this very important facet of your life. Trust Him to give you wealth with no sorrow added to it!

R200 million upgrade for Life Healthcare Clinics Clinics in the east of Johannesburg will be given a facelift as Life Healthcare undertakes a R200 million refurbishment and expansion project at three of its acute hospitals; Life Springs Parkland Clinic in Springs, Life Dalview Clinic in Brakpan and Life Suikerbosrand Clinic in Heidelberg. The communities of Springs, Brakpan and Heidelberg will be assured of access to private healthcare facilities, with all clinics expanding to offer additional beds, including maternity and neonatal intensive care units. The aim of the investment is to expand the reach of private healthcare services in the eastern region and help to support the high occupancy rates in the area. “Part of Life Healthcare’s strategy is delivering quality healthcare for all. These expansions will not only result in improved capacity for all hospitals but

they will also introduce new state of the art technologies that will help to deliver world class healthcare services to all our clients,” says Lourens Bekker, Chief Operating Executive: Inland Region, Life Healthcare. Life Springs Parklands Clinic The expansions at Life Springs Parkland Clinic will include a brand new maternity ward with 36 beds supported by a neonatal intensive care unit with 10 beds; a new paediatric ward with 33 beds supported by a paediatric intensive care unit with ten beds; an upgrade of the existing theatres and a renovation of the coffee shop. In total, this means the Clinic will grow to 226 beds, from its existing 183 beds and it will be the first time that Life Springs Parklands Clinic will be in a position to offer maternity care. “We are excited that we’ll be able to offer our clients a fresh new hospital and be able to

In total, the Clinic will grow to 96 beds, from its existing 75 beds and it will be the f irst time that Life Dalview Clinic will be in a position to offer maternity care. Says hospital manager, Henriette Pretorius: “We will be offering a variety of birthing options including water births and the latest sonar scan technology to service our Brakpan community.” Life Suikerbosrand Clinic Life Suikerbosrand Clinic will be expanded to include three additional maternity and two neonatal ICU beds; the refurbishment of the maternity unit, reception area and coffee shop and the

expansion of the existing pharmacy are also planned. In total, the Clinic will grow from 89 beds to 94 beds and will be in a position to offer neonatal care for the first time. “We are so pleased that we’ll have a neonatal unit on site to cater for complicated deliveries,” says Cora Muller, hospital manager at Life Suikerbosrand. The project at all clinics is expected to be complete by August 2014. Little disruption is expected and the clinics will continue to provide healthcare services during the renovations.

Potte aan die kook! Nigel VLU het op Donderdag 14 November hul jaarlikse afsluiting by die Ou Klubhuis in Nigel gehou. Die tema was “Kokkedore”. Die inspirasie van “kokkedore” kom natuurlik van die Kyk-Net reeks af, wat onlangs op televisie uitgesaai is. Ronel Lombaard, voorsitter van die tak wou die jaar iets besonders doen vir die afskeid en het met die blink idee vorendag gekom. Die dames is in 4 spanne opgedeel onder andere: Hoedjie tafel, Swart tafel, Oranje tafel en Geel tafel. Elke span bestaan uit 10 dames. Die onderskeie spanne moes elk ‘n driegang noenmaal voorberei op die perseel. ‘n Wenspan is gekies nadat die beoordelaars die geregte getoets het. Beoordelaars het gekom van heinde en vêr van verskillende VLU take om hierdie dag mee te maak.

Die beoordeling was streng volgens die reëls en niemand is bevoordeel nie. Daar is gekyk na die dek van tafels, sout en peper potjie wat vertoon moes word en silver skoon eetgerei wat in stelle moes voorkom. Dan die belangrike vraag val die smaak van die disse op almal se tong. Die span wat as wenners uit die stryd getree het, is die Hoedjie tafel. Hulle elkeen het ‘n dagboek en sertif ikaat ontvang as beloning. Daar was ‘n spontane atmosfeer tydens die verrigtinge en agter die kospotte. Alhoewel almal besig was en rond geskarrel het is almal dit eens dat dit ‘n genotvolle dag was. Dis die eerste keer in die VLU Nigel tak se geskiedenis dat so ‘n voortreflike dag aangebied is.

Sunfield Home Fortuna is a Home for Mentally and Physically disabled residents situated 30km outside Nigel. They are currently caring for 97 mentally and physically disabled residents on a 24hour basis, providing basic care and social needs, food, accommodation and medical care. The aim of Sunf ield is to ensure a homely environment and assisting the disabled to reach their full potential. They are a non-profitable organisation and do not receive any funding from government. As 2013 is rapidly moving to an end with the festive season on hand they are urgently appealling to the community to remember their Home and the residents.

Every year in December they have about 40 residents that stay in at the home. It is for this reason that they are requesting assistance from the public for food, toiletries and clothes. Other much needed (bigger) items on their wish list: Gas for cooking and bathing facilities in the children centre approximately R40 000. They urgently need a small bus to transport their residents and must still raise R 300 000. Mannekoor kuier by Goue Jare Meer as net ‘n koor ‘n Spesiale funksie vir al die inwoners en vrywilligers van Nigel Tuiste vir bejaardes is op 16 November gehou om net dankie te sê. Nigel Tuiste vir bejaardes bekend as Goue Jare hou jaarliks ‘n funksie spesiaal vir al die inwoners. Vrywilligers wat op een of ander wyse betrokke is by die bejaardes word ook genooi vir die geleentheid.

Chris Engelbreght, bestuurder van die tehuis het die verrigtinge geopen met skriflesing en gebed. Die Heidelberg Mannekoor het na opening die gehoor bekoor met hul besonderse aanbieding van gewyde musiek en kersliedere. Hierdie funksie word jaarliks aangebied om alle instansies en vrywilligers te bedank vir hul goedgesindheid en welwillendheid.

Plaaslike koor sing harte aan die brand tydens skitterende vertoning. Die Advent Haven koor het ontstaan in 2007 onder leiding van Wilhelmina Dunbar. Die koor bestaan uit 25 lede, mans sowel as vroue. Al die lede van die koor het ‘n voorliefde vir musiek en sang. Die groep dra ‘n kosbare boodskap oor deur hul sang en hul wil hierdeur graag ander inspireer, bemoedig en hoopvol maak. Die koor sing geestelike en sekulêre musiek. Hulle tree op as groep, doen solo’s en serenades by ouetehuise, skole, ge-

meentes en enige ander funksies waarheen hul genooi word. Daar is heelwat kersfunksies wat hulle al behartig het gedurende die afgelope jare. Hulle het op 2 November 2013 by Advent Haven Tehuis in Heidelberg, opgetree tydens hulle “Precious Memories” aand. Oefentye is op Saterdae middae waar daar ‘n prettige atmosfeer heers. Hulle wil graag hul dank betuig aan Wilhelmina Dunbar, Errol van Eck en Martie Evert wat so gewillig is om hulle in liefde af te rig.

Beloved Mrs Nellie Kotze greets Sedibeng College After 23 years of working for Sedibeng College well-known and respected staff member of Sedibeng College, retire. Mrs Nellie Kotze based at the Heidelberg Campus was one of the very first lecturers to start the Campus in 2006. She is passionate about her students, their welfare and results. She collected numerous accolades over the years for the outstanding academic results of her students. A breakfast was organised by staff to bid Mrs K farewell. She was promoted to Head of Department for Business Studies and known to be a very reliable member of staff with strong moral values. She saw Campus Managers come and go – but through all the changes, academic matters went smoothly with Heidelberg Campus; although small in numbers, they won best National Examinations results for the last two years within the four

campuses of the College. She remembers the old licence offices of the municipality became the Administration Building. The Fire Brigade garages were changed into classrooms. She said: “With pride I can look back at these 8 years during which we experienced an enormous growth on this campus. The Engineering workshops, the two new double storey buildings, the tennis courts as well as the development of our beautiful grounds. Together with these developments our staff as well as student numbers grew drastically. However sadly, all things must come to an end. My family (especially grandchildren) would like to see more of me. I will always cherish the memories of the College. Heidelberg Campus will be always part of me!

Kloofsig maak Suid-Afrikaanse geskiedenis Vir die volgende week sal alle besoekers by Heidelberg Kloofsig Vulstasie iets raar maar beslis opvallend sien. ‘n Rooi Ferrari F150, elke man en renmotor entoesias se droom. Die eienaars van Kloofsig Vulstasie, Jaco en Ria Nel het deelgeneem aan Shell Vpower Nitro+ se kompetisie wat landswyd geloods was by alle Shell vulstasies. Deelnemende vulstasies moes die V-power Nitro+ produk bemark. Kloofsig is aangewys as een van die vulstasies in Suid-Afrika om hierdie Ferrari vir ‘n volle week op hul perseel te kan uitstal.

Wat hierdie geleentheid so geskiedkundig maak is dat dit die eerste keer is dat so ‘n voertuig op Suid-Afrikaanse bodem is en dat die renmotor eerste in Heidelberg uitgestal word. Jaco is baie bevoorreg om hierdie pragstuk so reg op sy voorstoep te kan aanskou. Die Ferrari F150 kan besigtig word by Kloofsig tot en met 28 November waar dit dan na die volgende vulstasie verskuif sal word in Middelburg. Ria en Jaco by die pragstuk van ‘n Ferrari F150.

Fishing tips! Well-known celebrities teach Nigel anglers a thing or two during a seminar. Timols Fishing and Tackle hosted a bass and carp seminar on Saturday November 9, 2013 at 10:00. Louitjie Louwies four times carp world champ and Colin Wilmer from Rapala SA Pro staff was the guest speakers for the day. A big crowd gathered in front of Timols to hear these gentlemen speak. Colin entertained the crowd by showing them all kinds of f ishing rods and explaining the difference. Tips were given on what type of gut is best to use, keeping in mind the rod that you will be using and the location you are planning to fish. Fishing reel types were also explained. A very important safety measurement was given. Always wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun and unforeseen fishhooks that may come your way. Louitjie showed the crowd the new bait products available for the angler: conoflex dips and boldips. Samples were sent around so that people can get familiar with the smell and the texture of each brand. He explained the use of each and every one and gave tips about the best manner to make use of the bait. Throughout the seminar the crowd took part in the discussions by asking questions and giving answers. A few Rapala caps where given out and Timols gave out a few goodie bags during this seminar.

Arrive alive! Arrive Alive Road Safety Tips. Obey the rules of the road and carry your driverâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s license with you. Plan the route to your holiday destination and allow enough time to reach the destination. Make sure that your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition before departure. All lights and indicators, windscreen wipers, brakes, steering, exhaust system and tyres should be carefully examined for faults. Do not overload your vehicle. Try to avoid driving after dark if possible. Have a good rest before you embark on your journey. Take safety breaks every 2 hours or 200km. Do not drink and drive, use a designated driver! Try to recognize potentially dangerous drivers on and pedestrians alongside the road and keep well clear of them. Be visible, drive with your lights on. Headlights should be dipped well before an approaching vehicle is within range of the main beam. Always wear your seat belt and see that everyone in the car is wearing theirs. Stay within the speed limit at all times. Only overtake when it is absolutely safe to do so. Maintain at least a 2 second following distance. This distance should be increased at night, in foggy or rainy conditions and when the road is wet. Expect others not to be as obedient to the law as you are. Be courteous towards fellow road users by keep your temper and resist the temptation to retaliate. Avoid distractions while driving. Be alert at all times!

Jong krieket speelster maak geskiedenis. Marléne Botha ‘n 17 jarige dogter in graad 11 van Hoërskool John Vorster, Nigel, is vir die Easterns 0-19 span gekies. Sy gaan hulle verteenwoordig tydens die Nasionale Proewe in Kaapstad vanaf 3 - 9 Desember 2013. Vanaf haar laerskool loopbaan het sy ‘n passie vir krieket ontwikkel. Sy het binnehuis krieket saam met die seuns gespeel. In graad 4 speel sy haar eerste toernooi en in graad 6 verwerf sy Springbok kleure in binnehuis krieket. Tydens haar hoërskool loopbaan begin sy buitelug krieket speel nadat daar ‘n dogterspan op die been gebring word. Tydens proewe wat gedurende 19 en 20 Oktober plaasgevind het en waarvan sy deel was, word sy gekies vir die Eastern 019 span. Sy is die eerste dogter van Hoërskool John Vorster wat hierdie prestasie nog ontvang het. Praat jy met Marléne kan jy duidelik hoor sy het ‘n passie vir die sport. Sy oefen ywerig saam met haar afrigter Sean Roodt. Haar held is AB De Villiers en sy hou sy spel met arends oë dop om wenke te kry om haar eie spel te verbeter. Haar prestasies in krieket is as volg: Sport meisie van die jaar, beste kolwer, bouler, speelster, dogter A span 2 jaar en 1 jaar seuns A span. Marléne vertel dat sy ‘n gelyke balans wil handhaaf tussen haar akademie en sport. Na skool wil sy graag Natuurbewaring gaan studeer omrede sy ‘n liefde het vir die buitelug en diere. Alles wat sy aanpak, pak sy met oorgawe aan.

Vanaf Gauteng tot by die Kaap en moenie dink die grense van Suid-Afrika keer die gewildheid van haar skeppings nie. Daar is tot skeppings wat Australië en Kanada bereik het. Sy het vele toekennings ontvang deur die jare vir haar puik skeppings. Een van haar hoogtepunte is die toekennings wat sy tydens die Durban July perdewedrenne verower het. Corrie het op die ouderdom van vyftien jaar skelm begin naaldwerk doen toe haar ma uithuisig was. Sy het ‘n ou hemp uit die kas geneem, ‘n stukkie oorskiet lap gevat en haar eie patroon ontwerp, uitgesny en vasgewerk met die naaldwerkmasjien. Met haar ma se aankoms by die huis was sy so beindruk dat sy haar dogter toegelaat het om die masjien te gebruik. Van daar af het haar liefde vir naaldwerk net gegroei. Sy het geen formele opleiding ontvang en verklaar haar talent as Godgegewe. Sy kan uit enige lap iets optower. Haar gunsteling skeppings is trourokke en matriekafskeid rokke. Krale werk laat die

adrenalien in haar are borrel. Sy hou van kreatiwiteit. Kyk jy deur haar plakboek versameling met haar treffende skeppings sien jy die mooiste partytjie rokkies, dooprokke, dansrokke en asemrowende trourokke. Sy doen alterasies aan klere en kan enigiets oortrek met materiaal. Sy spog dat sy nie met patrone werk nie. Sy het die gawe om ‘n item met die oë te aanskou en haar werkstukke suksesvol te voltooi. Haar werkskamer is die van ‘n wafferse naaldwerkster. Oral is lap, gare en masjiene, nogtans weet sy presies wat is waar. Sy is tans besig met ‘n dooprokkie vir ‘n dogtertjie en moet ook ‘n uitrusting van die animasie karakter Pocahontas maak. Sy vertel as sy eers begin werk het sy geen benul van tyd nie. Sy kan soms tot laat in die nanag werk om ‘n skepping te voltooi. Selfs met vakansietye, het sy geen rus. Geen wonder ‘n naaldwerk masjien hou nie eens ‘n jaar nie, skerts sy. Die arme masjien rus nooit. Corrie maak haar eie klere. Kyk jy met ‘n fyn oog daarna, lyk dit kompleet asof dit uit ‘n bekende klerewinkel kom. Sy geniet dit ook om potloodsketse te teken en ander belangstellendes met die fynere kunsies van naaldwerk te help.

Gimnaste lewer puik prestasies Gimnaste van die Nigel Gimnastiek klub het hul jaarlikse prysuitdeling gehou op 23 November by hul klubhuis te John Vorster Stadion in Nigel.
