Op die oggend van 19 Februarie omstreeks 08:00 is die Toyota Tazz waarin die onderwysers gereis het, getref deur ‘n Ford King Cab. Die ongeluk het plaasgevind by die Alra Park kruising op die Balfour pad. Na bewering het die Ford agter die Tazz gery op die Balfour/Alra Park pad. Volgens die bestuurder van die Ford het die bestuurder van die Tazz geen aanduiding gegee dat hy gaan afdraai in Zambezi laan nie. Voor die

bestuurder kon besef dat die Tazz stilstaan het hy die agterkant van die voertuig getref. Die Ford bestuurder het geskok gestaan en toekyk hoe die Nooddienste een van die beseerdes uit die wrak van die Tazz bevry. Hy het sy kommer uit gespreek oor die beseerdes en het die voorval beskryf as ‘n ongeluk. Volgens Nooddienste is beseerdes op die toneel gestabiliseer. Twee van die insittendes is na die N17 in Springs gehaas met die moontlikheid dat een ‘n rugbesering opgedoen het tydens die voorval. Die derde insittende is na die plaaslike kliniek geneem vir observasie.

One of these professions is that of a teacher. Many people think that a minister works only on a Sunday and so too many people think that a teacher has a cosy half day job with no stress. Again comparing being a minister to a teacher I must agree that just like in the normal secular work place some people do work harder than others but let me say that a dedicated hard working, conscientious teacher is a lot of hard work. Our church believes that tithing (giving your 10th) is a Biblical practice and in the same way we as a church tithe into the community each month. Part of our January tithe was used to purchase stationary for children whose parents are struggling and we took a boot full of 267 SKAKEL books, paper, pens etc to the New Heidelberg Secondary School in Bergsig 083 6198 267 6198 (this is the “temporary” name of the school). What we found was amazing. The premises were neat and we were welcomed with a big smile (they did not know what we had H2410 in the boot of the car). But then my eye caught the long grass just past the classrooms and I wondered what the reason was for the long grass. After chatting to the acting head of the school Mr Steven Nel I realized that we all had a lesson to learn from the way this school was being run. For whatever reason the promised Government funds had not yet arrived at the school (I promised not to say more) and yet I saw many dedicated hard working staff members on sight. After investigating I found that the cleaning staff had volunteered and at that time were not being paid a salary. There were no phones available (not sure when Telkom is going to install the lines) and I noticed that Mr Nel was using his own phone (at his own cost for now). The dedication and passion seen by the staff from Mr Nel all the way down to the grounds staff was amazing. I immediately thought of this work being a calling and not just a job. No matter what the present conditions that the school found itself in the staff were prepared to

A calling to school
Rev Goddess, Heidelberg Methodist Church “give their all” to making a success of the school. (Please note – I am not saying other staff from other schools are not doing their best – I am using this school as an example of dedication to their profession). In a meeting with Mr Nel I asked some questions and received some answers. I asked about the long grass and Mr Nel told me that they did not have funds to pay someone to cut the grass and the single small lawnmower at their disposal could not do the job. I wonder if there are any companies in Heidelberg who could give a helping hand to cut the grass. My next observation was the lack of trees. I would like to challenge the community and specif ically churches to purchase some trees and bring them to the school on Saturday the 15th March at 15h00. Bring some folk along who can help plant the trees and let us as a community make a difference to the lives of the children attending this school. Mr Nel has assured me that they will have the holes dug for the trees. My last observation was that there was a lack of dustbins and Mr Nel has asked if the community can help with some industrial dust bins (or even just some 44 gal drums). The New Heidelberg Secondary School is trying their best and I believe we as a community can get together and help them reach their dream for the children. Thank you to ALL the teachers and staff of ALL our schools in Heidelberg for the hard work. Your “job” is truly a calling and NOT just a job.

New emergency vehicles If you are a resident of Ekurhuleni in need of an ambulance, you will be responded to within 15 minutes of making your call. This can be attributed to the doubling of the average number of emergency response vehicles on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from 30 to 65 since August last year. 12 More ambulances will be added to the City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services fleet and a new disaster bus. The City has also appointed 176 new fire fighter/emergency care practitioners who were officially dispatched to their posts by Executive Mayor Cllr Mondli Gungubele. An announcement will be made that the City will soon be opening the Zonkizizwe and Comercia (Tembisa) Fire Stations which will be staffed with 56 emergency care practitioners each, from the new appointees. Capacity will be boosted at the Palm Ridge, Wadeville, Tsakane, Bedfordview and Nigel Fire Stations which will also be allocated some of the new recruits. According to the Executive Mayor, the number of emergency calls responded to within f ive minutes of dispatching an ambulance increased from 0% to 9.43% in the last six months. Calls responded to within 15 minutes increased from 78% to 80% while the remainder of all calls are attended to within less than an hour. The number of ambulances on the road 24/7 will now be increased to an average of 74. A total of 170 of the new permanent staff members were appointed from the City’s 400-strong Fire Brigade Reserve Force, an entry into the field of emergency care for unemployed Fire Fighter 2 or Basic Ambulance course graduates.

(NLT) Living wise is primarily about being accurate in terms of discerning and executing the will of God cosistently. In essence, it is about doing exactly what Jesus would have done or the Father wants done in every instance. 1 John 4:7 beautifully summarizes the motive that underlies all things God. God is love and everything He does is founded in love. Likewise to live wise is to embrace a lifestyle of self-less loving. No person living in intimate relationship with God can be about themselves. Because of this, wise living never occurs in a life driven by selfish motives (1 John 2:4-5, Jeremiah 17:10, Psalm 139:23). Jesus lived His entire life in complete submission to the will of the Father. By
default, this means in denial of the flesh and self. In Luke 9:23-26 Jesus explains that self-denial is an integral part of being a follower of Christ. Wise living takes place when we circumspectly align what we do with the will of God. This requires of us to put down our personal agendas and what we want to do. Very often, we try to get God to prosper and bless what we want instead of positioning ourselves in accordance with what He wants. Only when we join God do we partake of everything He offers. This includes victory, provision, healing, righteousness, guidance, protection and peace. God never fails, He never loses control and only in Him can we find true rest (Proverbs 3:5, Jeremiah 29:11). When our primary focus is locked on Jesus as our ultimate example of someone that lived wise we can become like Him. Everything He did was for the sake of bringing salvation and life to those around Him (Proverbs 11:30). He loved people back to life. Jesus actively demonstrated godly, selfless love in that He loved beyond the boundaries of what people deserved to get (Matthew 5:43-48, 1 John 3:16). His identity as God’s son was demonstrated in the way He consistently loved through every action He took (1 John 3:10-11). Wise living summed up: To live with a constant love-agenda in everything we do, to remain focused on Christ and to love people back to live wherever we go! Let’s do this!

Geanker in God Geloof dra haar deur elke dag en gee haar die moed om die beste van elke situasie te maak. Dit is die woorde van Mariaan Kinnear (32) ten tye ‘n besoek aan haar op 20 Februarie. Sy is nie onbekend aan ons Rekord lesers nie. Mariaan is op die vroeë ouderdom van 14 jaar gediagnoseer met Diabetes Mellitus. Vanaf die jaar 2008 het Mariaan eers sig in haar een oog verloor weens komplikasies, veroorsaak deur diabetes mellitus en arteriële hipertensie (hoë bloeddruk). In 2009 was sy totaal en al blind, is gediagnoseer met nierversaking en kon nie meer loop. Gedurende die tydstip het sy gewag op ‘n nieroorplanting en moes elke 2de dag na Johannesburg reis vir dialise. Mariaan se moeder Charmaine het hierdie taak op haar skouers geneem. Charmaine is egter in 2012 oorlede na ‘n beroerte. Mariaan is vandag afhanklik van haar vader Jeff Kinnear. Dit is hy wat haar daagliks moed in praat en haar versorg. Hulle het juis vanoggend aangemeld by Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Hospitaal vir Mariaan se dialise. Gedurende Augustus 2013 het sy ‘n beroerte gehad en was 3 dae in ‘n koma. By die hospitaal is sy ingelig dat sy elke 2de dag vir behandeling moet kom en dat haar gesondheids toestand nie geskik is vir ‘n nieroorplanting nie. Die behandeling dreineer al die gifstowwe uit Mariaan se liggaam en keer dat dit nie haar brein affekteer nie. Dit kan noodlottige gevolge inhou wat kan lei tot haar dood. Die medici het haar dialise behandeling intussen verander na fistula dialise. Die dreinering van vloeistof vind nou plaas vanaf haar regter arm en nie meer haar borskas. Mariaan vertel moedig dat dit nogal pynlik en ongemaklik is. Mariaan is lief daarvoor om voor die radio te sit en musiek te luister in haar vrye tyd. Ray Dylan en Gerhard Steyn is haar gunsteling sangers. Jeff en Mariaan besit nie ‘n mediese fonds nie en Jeff is ‘n pensioenaris. Om sy inkomste aan te vul doen hy graag enige nutswerk. Jeff en Mariaan wil ook die gemeenskap bedank vir hul ondersteuning deur die jare, veral aan YLWIC Engineering. Hierdie familie het ‘n groot behoefte aan skenkings en donasies uit die gemeenskap. Mariaan kort onder andere nuwe klere, bloeddruk- en glukose meter. Ons doen ‘n beroep op die gemeenskap om te help met enige vorm van skenkings. Die CPF Forum in Nigel het ‘n subkomitee gestig naamlik die CPF Patrolleerders, waarvan Herkie Stephans aan die stuur staan. Die doel van die CPF Patrolleerders is om sigbaar te wees. Hulle werk in ‘n noue verband saam met die SAPS en Metro Polisie om verdagte aktiwiteite aan te meld en te rapporteer wat gewaar word gedurende hul patrollies. Die CPF Patrolleerders neem dus nie die werk van die SAPS oor nie, maar is net hul oë en ore. Hier volg ‘n paar riglyne oor al die belangrike inligting: Ontoelaatbaar: Kinders onder die ouderdom van 18 jaar mag nie tydens patrollerings in die voertuig wees nie. Arrestasies mag nie gedoen word. Geweld mag geensins gebruik word nie. Beeldmateriaal mag nie afgeneem word sonder die betrokke persoon of ouer se toestemming nie. Patrolleerders mag nie voertuie van die pad aftrek, of ondersoek nie. Patrolleerders mag nie enige verdagte ondersoek of beveel om uit te trek nie. Mag nie alleen patrolleer nie en moet by die spoedbeperking bly van die omgewing waarin hy ry. Geen gekruide taal, seksistiese aanmerkings of rassisme is toelaatbaar nie. Patrolleerders mag nie onder die invloed van drank of dwelms wees nie. Toelaatbaar: Patrolleerders mag ‘n vuurwapen in hul besit hê indien hy/sy ‘n lisensie daarvoor het. Mag op die uitkyk wees vir verdagte voertuie, persone wat op sypaadjies staan of rond beweeg. Indien ‘n Patrolleerder ‘n reservis/polisie- of korrektiewe beampte is, mag hy/sy voertuie en persone deursoek. Indien dit ‘n persoon van die teenoorgestelde geslag is, mag hy/sy ‘n persoon uit die publiek vra om dit namens hom/haar uit te voer. Indien so persoon weier, mag hulle aangekla word vir dwarsboming van die gereg. Slegs Metro Polisie het die mag om voertuie van die pad af te trek. Daar is besluit om ‘n dissiplinêre komitee te stig. Die doel van die komitee is om klagtes te ondersoek, probleme op te los en as arbiter op te tree tussen partye. Patrolleerders wat nie volgens hul handves op tree nie sal voor hierdie komitee verskyn en hul sal gedissiplineer word. Die CPF Komitee wil die publiek net bewus
maak dat indien ‘n lid van die publiek betrokke wil raak by die CPF Patrolleerders hy deur ‘n keurings proses moet gaan. Lede van die CPF Patrolleerders kan uitgeken word deur die CPF embleem wat aan voertuie se deure voorkom. Meeste van die voertuie het wit ligte wat bo op die dak skyn en elke lid moet toegerus wees met sy eie unieke CPF identifiserings kaart. Op die kaart sal die besonderhede van die betrokke persoon voorkom, selfoon nommer en ‘n unieke “barcode” regs onder aan die kaart. Voorbeeld volg. Local boy receives scholarship Tumelo Thanjekwayo an 11 year old boy a resident from Nigel received a scholarship for a whole year to attend Laerskool Werda in Springs. Tumelo was one of the lucky children, receiving this scholarship, represented by Shoprite in the Shoprite Class of the year competition. During the competition learners from across the country Thabo Mawane (Trainee Manager Shoprite), Tumelo were invited to Thanjekwayo and Malusi Ndonga (Branch Manager). dream big and enter at their local Shoprite by writing a short essay, or by drawing a picture, about what they would like to become one day. Feedback Due to resource limitations the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality is struggling to keep up with all their responsibilities regarding the grass cutting and regular maintenance of all the facilities. Teams will proceed to cut and clean facilities as far as resources allow. The dilemma has been acknowledged by the Metro and plans are being put in place to speed up cutting and cleaning up cycle times. A fully fledged depot is being established in Nigel to ensure that this and other functions are executed more appropriately in future. Upgrading of the playing field and surface was already listed as a priority on the Regions’ operational project list. Regrettably the budget on maintenance of grounds in the region is depleted and therefore this project can only receive attention during the 2014/15 f inancial year. On the issue of the exorbitant fees at Jim Fouche and John Vorster Stadiums, those
are promulgated tariffs which are applicable to those stadiums. EMM are currently reviewing these tariffs to accommodate community clubs and these changes will come into effect only in July 2014. Due to the state of the Alra Park and the Mackenzieville Stadiums, the Metro’s Sport and Recreation Department had a meeting with the Ward Councillor and representatives from the Sport Clubs in the area. They made the following commitment: the use of the two stadiums will be for free until such time that they are upgraded to a better standard. The usage will however be coordinated. A date to finalise this arrangement by the Ward Councillor and the team representatives is still awaited. Local authority service delivery Whilst Nigel has seen good work by the local authority in maintaining roads and improving the pedestrian pavements, other items of SAFETY and maintenance are being neglected. Pictures of the recently widened pavement in Somerset St. on approach to Nigel Primary School is disgusting. It is so overgrown and littered with rubbish that pedestrian are having to walk on the street. Litter is accumulating in the overgrown areas and in the weeds encroaching onto the road. Some of the fixed metal dustbins that were erected along the pavements have long since been destroyed and removed. The Pedestrian safety warning sign on the pavement approaching the primary school from town side is obscured by overhanging trees. The Beverly St. section of the road along the primary school entrance is used by racing/reckless drivers endangering the lives of the primary school children. Many of whom come from rural areas where they are not accustomed to speeding vehicles. The pedestrian crossing and parking areas have recently been repainted and are well demarcated but serious attention need to be given to strategically placed “speed humps” in an attempt to further insure the safety of the young primary school children. Local Soccer team, Nigel Football Club won the Boksburg Shapiro cup after a breath taking game against FC Porto in Boksburg on Friday evening, February 14. This was not an easy game as they went down 2-0 in the first half. The boys came back at the last 8 minutes of the match. 2 Quick goals were scored by Ethan Titus and Johannes Motlapeng. In the extra time John Roos put the nail in the coff in by scoring 2 more goals making the final score line 4-2 leaving F.C Porto to lay in Peace. 4x4 by far!
Local 4x4 club to develop a 4x4 track right in our midst for all experienced and novice drivers. Nigel 4x4 club was established in 1996 and was founded by local business men of Nigel, Neels Ras, Rhyno and Alwyn van den Heever. Other founders where Nic Goosen, Piet Botha, Attie van Vuuren, Hans Mc Chalaghan and Binkie Jabloufsky. Today only 3 dedicated members and families are still active. The aim of the 4x4 club is so that all enthusiasts can participate in fun and scenic routes in and around Nigel. Some of these exhibitions took them into the Mozambique and Lesotho mountains. Monthly meetings are held every second Tuesday of the month to discuss business and social events. One of the events discussed for the month of March will be at the Rust de Winter. This consists of a scenic route through the mountains near Pretoria and Jambouree. Mostly experienced drivers do extreme 4x4 routes but there is plenty of tracks and routes set out for novice drivers. The 4x4 club is a fun sport that can include the whole family. At the moment a 4x4 track is being laid out right in our midst, the property behind the John Vorster sports fields belonging to Tini Vorster School. A portion of this field has been allocated to develop a 4x4 track for all enthusiasts (licensed vehicles only). During a course you don’t only get to know your vehicle’s driving capabilities but also your ingenious driving skills and you get to improve it. The track basically caters for all sizes, makes and models. A 4x4 day will be held during Laerskool Tini Vorster’s Boere Carnival on Saturday, March 15.
