Die CCTV kameras was op Marlene gerig in haar kantoor by “Monroe’s Advertising, Marketing & Printing”.

Daar is 2 maal per jaar boete vrye weke beskikbaar by die biblioteek.

Potential buyer loses money after responding to an advert where motor vehicles are sold at reduced prices. Second-hand car dealerships, who advertise cars and bakkies for sale on the internet for cheap, may bring tears of disappointment and not of joy. This happened to a Rekord reader who lost thousands of rand. This specific person saw an advertisement for a 2011 ChevroletCorsa bakkie on the internet. The dealership, a well known name, who is selling the bakkie is apparently situated in Springs. Grabbing the change to own this bakkie, he contacted the salesmen on the given number and did an inquiry about the price. He was told that he was not the only one interested in buying the bakkie, and was asked to pay a 10% deposit so that the bakkie can be reserved for him. All sales are done on a first come first serve basis. Given that the price was so reasonable he made the payment on Friday, April 18, for the company seemed legitimate and faxed through the proof. He would be picking up his newly owned bakkie on Saturday. To his grate horror this dealership was nowhere to be found in Springs. After phoning the salesman numerous times, they stopped taking his calls. This man lost R5000. Rekord investigate the matter and found that the business landline given is actually in Midrand and not Springs. After phoning the dealership and enquiring about the Chevrolet-Corsa bakkie the same salesmen gave the same old story. First come first serve and a deposit of 10% is acquired. Toying with him, I asked to see the bakkie first, before making a deposit. I asked about their address in Springs. The salesmen was reluctant to give me the address of their business and after being persistent he gave me an address. There is no Second-hand car dealership in Springs that goes under that specific name. The address given is a fake one. This is a mayor scam!!! Fraudsters have been scamming potential motor vehicle buyers, targeting them through internet adverts that have been hacked. Posing as sellers, spammers place fake adverts on Automart. The potential buyer will contact the number that is given on the advert. The fraudster will then ask for a deposit or full price to be transferred to them. After they have received the money they will create an excuse as to why they cannot release the vehicle. The potential buyer has then become a victim to a scam and the fraudster is laughing all the way to the bank. When buying a vehicle on the internet, look out for vehicles that are below market rate, anything cheap should always be scrutinised. Be cautious if the advert do not mention the business address and are full of bad grammar and spelling mistakes. Make sure the area code in the telephone number matches the area. Do not make any payments until you have actually seen the vehicle.

7 Years for murder 26-Year old Katlehong mother has been charged with murder after the death of her two children, who she poisoned. Esther Moyana a Mozambique appeared in the Heidelberg Magistrate Court on Monday, April 14, 2014 in connection with murder charges. She was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment for each murder and it will run concurrently. In handling down the sentence Magistrate Veena Krishner said there were compelling and substantial circumstances that made her deviate from the minimum sentence of 15 years for each murder. Before handing down sentence, Krishner ordered that Esther be seen by a psychiatrist, who recommended that she be given a suspended sentence. On October 17, 2013 the residents of Katlehong found two toddlers, age one and three, dead in a field near Zonkisiswe, Katlehong. The mother, Esther Moyana was found with them. Initially she told the police that she had an argument with her husband. She claimed that she found him in bed with another woman. He then put her and the children in his car and dropped them off in Katlehong, in the middle of the night, with poisoned juice. Esther was taken to hospital while her children were taken to a mortuary. A day later she was taken into custody as the police did not believe her story. She later pleaded guilty to the murders. Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ (NLT) God wants His children to be in an intimate relationship of love and trust with Him. Once we have encountered the love of God for us, we can never be the same again. His love for us prompts us to respond not just through words, but also in action. Our love for God is evident in the love we have for what He loves. Nothing is more important to God than people. People carry such value in God’s eyes that He was prepared to and in fact did, give everything He had in order to save the lost. Loving people God’s way is embracing a lifestyle in which our primary mission is to connect people to Him and to empower them to everything He intended them to be. As we lay down ourselves and what we regard as dear and precious in order to accurately reflect Jesus, we enter into being ourselves the way He created us to be. Only in dying to ourselves and living for Him, do we actually find our true selves. Both the life and words of Jesus while He was on earth very clearly outlined the mandate with which God charges His children – “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20, NLT). Simply put Jesus told His disciples to win the lost (from every nation, race and creed) and disciple the saved. In effect we then love people when we fulfill the great commission as given to us by Jesus Himself. Within the parameters of our purpose – to win the lost and to disciple the saved, God gives us complete authority to do whatever needs to be done in order to accurately comply with the charge. Important though, is to understand that we do not have authority or power out of our own. The authority we have is delegated with the explicit purpose of empowering us to successfully obey the great commission. Only when we submit to authority and operate within the boundaries of our delegated authority do we see the blessing of God upon what we do. As God’s children our vision is to win souls and make disciples. In order to do this most effectively, our goal is for every believer to be a Godly leader. Since we have been created in the image of God, all people are born leaders. Regardless of whether we acknowledge the fact that we have influence over others or not, we cannot go through life without affecting someone in our world. Since leading in some way or another is an inevitable part of life, we might as well determine to become excellent at leading people into the Kingdom of God. In order to develop leadership we have to divert our eyes from gathering a crowd, that has very limited capacity to effectively and sustainably change the world, to discipling every individual God gives us. Disciples take responsibility for the people in their world by getting actively involved in ministering the Gospel to them, teaching them how to serve the Lord and empowering them to connect to the Lord in a way that sets them apart for ever. Leaders are gatherers rather than scatterers. They have issues just like everybody else but God’s business is more important to them than their own issues. God expects of us to be disciple-makers but just like the original 12 disciples, we can only be good disciple-makers if we are good disciples. Someone who is not submitted cannot be trusted. Within the contexts of a close relationship with a person appointed by God to lead, train and love us, we learn how to do the same for others. In pursuit of being equipped to successfully action the great commission it is crucial to not only attend church, but to also position ourselves for growth and ultimately Godly leadership by becoming a member of a cell group, attending an encounter weekend and training. Become someone that loves Him in the way He wants to be loved – by loving and serving those He died for in a way that will change their lives forever!

A drug of poverty

Verhogings

Many families have suffered since it became the street drug of choice for young people. Nayope is a described as “crack with a sickening twist”. Nayope use has had a devastating effect on townships and communities across the county sins it reared its ugly head eight years ago. It is believed that this dangerous and most addictive drug originated in Soshanguve, Atteridgeville and Mamelodi in 2006. Nayope is a combination of heroin, dagga, detergents, ARVs, battery fluid, pool cleaner, detergent powder and rat poison. It is very popular among lower-income groups because it is so cheap. Adults sometimes exchanged dagga for Nayope to experience a more added effect. A user becomes highly addictive after only using it for a week. During use, initial feelings of euphoria are replaced by unbearable pain, user are then forced to take it more than once a day to sidestep the side effects. The euphoria does not last long and users have to take more of the drug to get that high feeling. Users of this drug separate themselves from family and friends and have a rebellious attitude. They do not seem to know right from wrong and their appearance chance. They are likely to have red eyes and runny noses. Many youngsters who are hooked become unruly and anti-social. Many addicts have been known to turn to violence and crime to feed their addiction. The Department of Justice announced an amendment of the Drugs and Traff icking Act, making it possible for those found in possession of the drug to be fined, or face a jail term of 15 years. Jeff Radebe, Minister of Justice, and Aaron Motsoaledi signed an amendment of the act on March 28, 2014. Gauteng has been identif ied as the capital of Nayope production and use.

‘n Praktiese foto vertoning is gelewer.

Freedom “We are involved in a life and death Ministry” says Pastor Derick Matthews, Founder and CEO of Freedom Recovery Centre. “The lifestyle choices the recovering addict makes, determines whether they are going to live or die. Pastor Matthews, or Pastor D as his residents calls him affectionately, is a kind and patient man, with a lot of compassion for the recovering addict. Yet he also has a very strong no nonsense approach when it comes to running his centre. In the 15 years that he has been actively involved in the addiction field, he has experienced his fair share of disappointments, each of which just seem to strengthen his resolve to continue his battle against drugs and helping recovering addicts. Pastor Derick CEO of the centre, also runs the finances with a tight hand. He firmly believes that the families of residents should not pay more than what is absolutely necessary. In addition he forms part of the counselling team as a pastoral counsellor. Assisting him on the financial side is one of our latest volunteers, Belinda Kock. She helps out on a part-time basis, making sure that every cent that is spent, is accounted for. Assisting Pastor Derick in making sure that the centre is managed with love and compassion is Pastor Quintin Mennegke – FRC’s Programme Manager. He ensures that the daily activities are carried out and that the residents stay within the boundaries of what is expected from them. He is also a pastoral counsellor. Pastor Quintin himself has had a battle with narcotics, and is in his 9th year of sobriety. He knows and understands how addiction works, which provides him with a continuing passion for what he is doing. He is also responsible for drug awareness campaigns at schools, in

particular. Taking charge of the centre whilst Pastor Derick may not be there is Pieter Stols. He is an addiction counsellor as well as the Human Resources Manager for Freedom Recovery Centre. He is also responsible for public relations. Pieter has an immense interest in human behaviour and where it comes from. He believes that the recovering addict needs to be loved back to life. Apart from counselling and taking charge of FRC’s staff compliment, he also presents lectures along with Pastors Derick and Quintin. Whereas they focus on the spiritual side, he focuses on sober living and mental and medical health. He also presents a writing group for residents who feel more comfortable expressing their emotions through writing. Precious Mlilo recently joined the FRC team as a registered social worker. Precious’s task is to ensure that each resident’s counselling objectives are met by developing an Individual Treatment Plan for each resident and then assessing their progress regularly. She is the liaison between the Department of Social Development and the centre, ensuring that FRC carries out every expectation from the norms and standards as prescribed by the Prevention of and Treatment for Substance Abuse Act, Act 70 of 2008. She also ensures court representation and reports to the court should one of the residents be involved with a court case. No centre will be complete without medical staff – the “real” mothers of the residents. Although FRC contract the services of a general practitioner and a psychiatrist, they have on board a Registered Psychiatric Nurse assisted by an Enrolled Nurse. After obtaining years of experience in related fields, Sister Antoinette Terblanche joined FRC in 2012 and has found her home. She

is in charge of the medical side of FRC and ensures that every complaint or ailment is looked after meticulously. She ensures that Doctor’s orders are carried out and that medication are dispensed at the correct times. Assisting Sister Antoinette is Sharon Pape, an enrolled nurse. Sharon has been involved with the centre as a volunteer since 2012 and as staff member since 2013. She is also currently involved in pastoral studies. Sharon also regularly comes up with fundraising initiatives. Spoken of mothers – Lildah Swart is a resident volunteer at FRC and helps out with various tasks when she is needed. She needs to keep herself occupied, there for you will find her doing almost anything – making fudge, doing alterations to dresses, typing lecture notes and playing mom’s taxi – sort of jack of all trades. Her strongest quality however, is being a mom for the other residents, lending that ear, and listening to other residents when they just need someone to talk to. Feeding everybody is a mammoth task, and sometimes FRC’s kitchen churns out up to 4000 plates of food per month. Pierre Gouws has been involved with FRC since 2011 as a volunteer, and ensures that every hungry mouth gets fed on time, taking into consideration varying dietary requirements. Pierre is a recovering addict himself, who at the end of his program in 2011, decided to give back to community and stayed with us ever since. The maintenance team, Oom Cyril Matthews, Pastor Derick’s father, along with Solomon Tshabalala and Annah Ngenyah. Oom Cyril has been involved with the centre as a volunteer since its start in 2008 and Solomon and Annah joined about a year later. Annah’s responsibility is to ensure that every resident has clean clothes to wear and thus takes charge of laundry. Oom Cyrill and Solomon ensures that everything remains functional at the centre. Nathi helps out as a temporary worker. The permanent and volunteer staff of FRC are like family. Compiled by Pieter Stols, Freedom Recovery Centre

Elma wys haar decoupage werk.

No response New clinic Heidelberg Mall Community members of Dunnottar are furious because of a lack of interest from the local municipality. Adjoining property owners next to stand no 1024, no 95 Turvey Road, Dunnottar has made numerous complaints to Nigel Ekurhuleni Municipality. All their grievances felt on deaf ears and they came to Rekord for assistance. The whole situations start 9 years ago when the owner of a funeral parlour, in Dunnottar started to erect a house on the stand. After a year the owner felt ill and building was halted for 6 months. This owner passed away after construction began for the second time, leaving the house incomplete. Nearly 7 years has gone by since the owners passing. Each year more decay is taking place, making it a hazardous area. Grass and weeds are taking over on the property, which led to a few occurring bush fires the past years. Vagrants’ uses the stand as a sleeping place and passer-by’s uses it as toilets and dumping grounds. Children are attracted to the stand for they seem to think this is the best playground ever. But it is a danger due to the upper unenclosed floors which are rotten by this time and loose roof timbers. This property devalues all adjoining properties and is a complete eyesore to the neighbourhood. John Haw, one of the adjoining neighbours, took it on himself to do something about the situation. A petition was drawn up and signed by all adjoining property owners on September 3, 2013. John sent this petition via registered mail and fax to the Nigel Town Engineer, the Health Inspector and Fire Department on September 10. Except from the Fire Department nobody gave any feedback. After numerous phone calls to Nigel Ekurhuleni Municipality John made a contact in the department. He was told to send all the evidence and petition via email. The complaint will then be allocated to the right department. The above mentioned was done March 2014 and the Municipality has done nothing yet to solve the situation. No building inspector was sent out to even take a look at the property. Where is the service delivery, is the question of many members in the community?

Stand 1024, no 95 Turcey road.

The City of Ekurhuleni is pleased to announce that the newly built Alra Park Clinic will formally open its doors to the community of Nigel. Alra Park Clinic is amongst f ive of Ekurhuleni’s new health facilities which opened on April 25, 2014. The new clinic is situated on the c/o Sasstri and Molapo Street and will offer basic Primary Healthcare services. HIV Counselling and Testing, Maternal Health and Child Health Services will be included in services rendered. The Clinic will operate Monday to Friday between 08:00 to 16:30. The staff will serve the Nigel community by upholding the National Strategic Vision of “A long and healthy life for all South Africans”.

Heidelberg Mall’s excellent position secures the confidence of national retailers and is due to open in October 2014. Heidelberg’s easy macro access via the N3 highway ensures it acts as a central town serving the retail needs of towns such as Villiers, Frankfort, Cornelia and Vrede. Heidelberg Mall will to become a significant regional retail asset for these communities and will add a unique retail option to the entire region with a complete one-stop shopping variety under one roof. Making it easy for everyone to get to the mall, it will also include an integrated taxi rank. While Heidelberg Mall will become the regions first regional shopping centre, saving many shoppers from the long trek to Johannesburg. It will provide a shopping experience, with a strong fashion focus. Also, Heidelberg Mall has important added benef its for the local community. An estimated 800 to 1,200 permanent jobs will be created once the mall opens.

Woef

Celebrating good things since 1888 Heidelberg Club, Pub and Restaurant are one of the oldest men’s clubs in the old Transvaal. The club was founded in 1888 and the clubhouse was built in 1897. It was the second club in the Transvaal region to be granted a liquor license. In 1984 the building was declared as a monument and in 1998 it opened its doors to female customers as well. This year the club is celebrating their 126 birthday and is still the best joint to relax after a hard day at work. Heidelberg Club, Pub and Restaurant offer liquor beverages to suite every taste bud and the best served meals for those who have a healthy appetite. Owner Dennis Fourie bought the club in June 2013 and has big plans for this establishment. He is planning a revamp in the dinning as well as the bar and entertainment area. Modernising the look but still keeping the nostalgia and history of the club itself. Traditional Afrikaans cuisine will be served in the Restaurant, which is separated from the entertainment area. Here you will be experiencing good food at its best, in a

warm, family environment. Food is prepared by an experienced sous chef and served by friendly and professional waiters, ready to serve the hungry at heart. This dining experience will make you come back for more. In the pub and entertainment area, you can sit back and enjoy live entertainment from upcoming and existing stars. All while sipping on a cold beer and hanging out with friends. A Mixologist is just a call away for those, especially the ladies, who crave a professionally made cocktail on a warm summer evening. Heidelberg Club, Pub and Restaurant caters for young and old and will make every occasion a special moment. The following are held during the week: Tuesdays the sport lovers can enjoy a pool competition, Wednesdays the “People’s choice Battle of the Bands”, Thursdays “Heidelberg Club voices, Fridays it is live entertainment and Saturdays it is Rugby Mania day. On May 2 an one night revival show is taking place with Cindy Alter from Clout (super hit band 80’s) and Stewart Irving from Ballyhoo. Visit them in Hei-

Join Vitafit’s Wonderwoman challenge from 5 – 31 May 2014 Boost your daily activities and go back to the way you used to be! They will focus on Functional Training Techniques and change your “flabby belly” to a “fabulous belly”. What is Functional Training: Functional training helps provide you with the strength, stability, power, mobility, endurance and flexibility that you need to thrive as you move through your life and sports. You use basic functional movement patterns like pushing, pulling, hinging, squatting, rotating, carrying and gait patterns (walking and running) every day. The time spent developing dynamic strength, flexibility and agility carries over into your daily activities, making life a little bit easier. Our bodies go through a variety of motions every day: Lifting: Laundry basket, grocery bags, kids, etc. Reaching and pulling: Opening the refrigerator or dryer, putting dishes away or picking things up from the floor. Power: Standing up from a chair, going up stairs or walking up a hill. Balancing: Walking, holding multiple bags of groceries while carefully navigating the stairs or carrying a baby while talking on a phone and cooking

dinner. “The key to functional exercise is integration. It’s about teaching all the muscles to work together rather than isolating them to work independently.” Vitaf it is a strength and conditioning training centre, where they focus on making you stronger in every aspect of training. They are not only interested in making you look good, they want you to be able to gain strength to be used in everyday life. Their goal is to get our members to look like an athlete and be able to move and train like one too. “Typically, people who exercise start eating better and become more productive at work. They smoke less and show more patience with colleagues and family. They use their credit cards less frequently and say they feel less stressed. Exercise is a keystone habit that triggers widespread change.” “When you learn to force yourself to go to the gym or start your homework or eat your salad instead of a hamburger, part of what’s happening is that you’re changing how you think,” said Todd Heatherton, a researcher at Dartmouth who has worked on willpower studies. “People get better

at regulating their impulses. They learn how to distract themselves from temptations” “As people strengthened their willpower muscles in one part of their lives – in the

gym, or a money management program – that strength spilled over into what they ate or how hard they worked. Once willpower became stronger, it touched everything”

Jeep Warrior Race #3

Nigel residents competing in the biggest obstacle course race series in South-Africa. On Saturday April 5, 2014 more than 8000 competitors turned up for the Jeep Warrior Race that took place at Jan Smuts House Museum, Irene in Pretoria. The race accommodated everyone from kids to the more competitive maverick. The race tested endurance, fitness and mental strength. Above all it was an absolute exhilarating adventure. There were four courses to choose from: 1km Jeep Warrior Brats with 8 mini obstacles, 5km Jeep Warrior Rookie with 15 obstacles, 10km Jeep Warrior Commando with 20 obstacles and the 16km Jeep Warrior Black-Ops with 30 obstacles. The most arduous and challenging obstacle during the day was definitely the Mud-monster. This monster was a muddy110m long and participants had to climb, crawl and even drag their bodies through this slimy obstacle. A few of Nigel’s competitors were: Jaco Ligthelm 1st place in the Black-Ops with a time of 1:01 min, Jeandri Ligthelm 4th place in Warrior Rookie with a time of 1:48min, Chantel Conté 4th place in Warrior Rookie with a time of 1:48min. Teams from Nigel competing were: “Here Comes the Boom” with Allen and Andea Materin with a time of 2:13 and “Duck Dodge Dive” with Mirand Lombaard and Lood Geyser.
