Ongeveer 55 leerders van Laerskool Tini Vorster en 28 leerders van Laerskool Hannes Visagie gaan baat vind by die projek. Die voedsel word in pakkies verpak en aan die families uitgestuur voor die vakansie. Nigel Rotary Anns bedank die gemeenskap vir hul mildelike bydrae.

Pa en dogter oggend Vaders en dogters het vanjaar weer die geleentheid gehad om saam te kuier tydens die Nigel Born 2 Care “Pa en dogter oggend”. Op Saterdag 7 Junie het pappas en hul dogters die waarde van hul verhouding met mekaar herontdek. Tydens die oggend
is pa’s daarop gewys dat hul die hoeksteen van hul huishouding is en dat geloof in God van kardinale belang is om ‘n goeie verhouding te verseker. Joe van den Berg, gasspreker vir die oggend het die gaste toegespreek oor hoe om die verhouding tussen pa en dogter te versterk. Dogters is bewus gemaak daarvan dat pa se oordeel vertrou moet word omrede pa’s na hul belange omsien en net die beste vir hul dogters wil hê. I was recently listening to the song Who am I by Casting Crowns and I began to think of how few people actually take time to think of who they are in this mixed up world of ours. Maybe we need to face the facts of life and actually take some time to see who we are and very importantly who others think you are. Here is a challenge for all who are reading this article: on day 1 take 30 minutes and write down who you are. On day 2 take 30 minutes to write down who you present yourself to be – in other words what sort of person do you portray. The truth is that if we are honest we will see that who we are is not exactly the same person as who we try to let others see who we are. Let me give you an example. At home you are this calm understanding loving person but when you get to work you seem to change into this bombastic arrogate person not listening to the reasoning of those working for you and being unrealistic in the demands that you put on the staff. At home you never use bad language but at work you swear like a trooper. So who do the people see when they look at you? Who you are or who you let them believe you are? Who is the correct YOU – the “you” at home or the “you” at work? Truth be told you should be the same person at both places. You should also be the same person at church and in the present of important guests (including the minister). If you found the f irst two challenges interesting try this one: ask someone else to tell you who you are to them. In other words what sort of person do they see you

At Heidelberg Methodist we do the NETWORK course that helps us understand what our God given gifts are (if you are interested contact our office – the course is on the 17 and 19 June) and I always share the story of one lady who asked her domestic servant to tell her who she saw her to be. The feedback to this lady was very surprising and quite an eye opener for her. Who are YOU? I guess I would like to specifically ask those who are Christians to answer this question of yourself. A Christian is a person who follows Christ and lives a life of Christ. Jesus loves unconditionally, is compassionate towards all, does not judge but rather forgives, trusts COMPLETELY in God and allows Himself to be a servant for God…… are YOU following Jesus – because that is the image that others see and that is how a nonChristian would see a Christian to be – just like you. Who are YOU? Maybe now is the time to think of who you are and if you do not like who you are then do something about it – who you are is in YOUR hands and YOUR CHOICES in life make you who you are. Choose Jesus and follow in His footsteps…..

Kritiek Botsing tussen twee voertuie laat kleuter in ‘n kritieke toestand. Op Maandag 2 Junie het ‘n botsing tussen ‘n Toyota Tazz en Volkswagen Polo op die M63 tussen Nigel en Dunnottar plaasgevind. Volgends ‘n woordvoerder van die nooddienste blyk dit dat die Tazz vanaf Dunnottar na Nigel gereis het. Die bestuurder van die Tazz het beheer verloor en in die aankomende verkeer beland en met die Polo gebots. Die 3 insittendes van die Tazz, waaronder 2 skoliere is, is op die toneel deur nooddienste behandel. Die insittendes van die Polo is na Parkland Kliniek in Springs gehaas. Volgens bystanders het die dogtertjie ernstige kop, been en skouerbeserings opgedoen.
Verkragting Vragmotorbestuurder in hegtenis geneem vir die verkragting van ‘n tienermeisie naby Rooikraal Boerdery, Heidel-berg. Op Maandag 26 Mei omstreeks 13h50 het SAPD offisiere, Josia Masuku en Nkosi Masoka die R103 gepatrolleer. Ten tye van die patrollering het hul opgemerk dat ‘n wit Volvo-vragmotor met ‘n blou sleepwa langs die pad by Rooikraal boerdery stilstaan. By nadere ondersoek is gevind dat die vensters half oop is. Die bestuurder van die vragmotor is op heterdaad betrap tydens die verkragting van ‘n minderjarige meisie. Na bewering het die dogter vir ‘n saamry geleentheid gevra vanaf Balfour na Grootvlei. Die Blitspatrollie van Germiston het die 55 jarige man in hegtenis geneem en ‘n saak van verkragting is geopen. Die verdagte sal binnekort in die Heidelberg Landdroshof verskyn.

Sindikaat verantwoordelik Hooggeplaaste Valke beamptes word na bewering gekoppel aan ‘n sindikaat vir die kaping van ‘n British American Tabacco vragmotor. Valke beamptes word tans ondersoek vir hul beweerde betrokkenheid by ‘n multimiljoen rand sigaret vragmotor kaping wat op 13 Mei 2014 plaasgevind het. Die British American Tabacco vragmotor met sigarette ter waarde van R12 miljoen is op die N3 by Heidelberg gekaap. Woordvoerder van die Valke Paul Ramaloko het bevestig dat daar bewerings is van dwarsboming van die gereg teen sommige van hul lede. Volgens berugte maak bogenoemde Valke beamptes deel uit van ‘n sindikaat wat vragmotors teiken en kaap. Hulle is nie direk betrokke by die kaping self maar hou gebeure dop vanaf ‘n veilige distansie. Volgens ‘n polisie woordvoerder het 5 gewapende mans die vragmotor gestop ten tye van die kaping. Hulle het ‘n wit Polo voertuig met blou ligte asook ‘n Toyota Fortuner gebruik. Die insittendes van die Fortuner het reflektor baadjies aangehad. Die gekaapte vragmotor is later verlate opgespoor in Protea Glen, Soweto. Twee dae na die kaping is ‘n 42 jarige man in hegtenis geneem en ondervra. Volgens berugte is drie hooggeplaaste Valke beamptes gevang met die gesteelde buit terwyl hulle gehelp het om die vrag af te laai. Ramaloko ontken dat beamptes tans ondersoek word, maar bevestig wel dat ‘n interne ondersoek aan die gang is.

KORREKTE EISE PROSEDURE Daar is ‘n paar ‘goue’ reëls wat nagekom moet word om probleme te voorkom, wanneer ‘n verlies ontstaan: Indien die oorsaak van verlies of skade a.g.v. misdaad is (huisbraak, diefstal, roof, ens.), moet die voorval onmiddellik aan die naaste polisiekantoor gerapporteer word en ‘n saakverwysingsnommer gekry word. Maak ‘n aantekening met wie jy gepraat het, die tyd en datum. Verwittig u versekeraar (indien u op ‘n direkte basis met hulle sake doen) of u makelaar. Moet geen verklarings aan enige persone maak of ook geen dokumente, veral blanko dokumente, onderteken alvorens jy die nodige advies ingewin het nie. In geval waarby ‘n derde party betrokke is, moet jy onder geen omstandighede enige erkenning van aanspreeklikheid teenoor sodanige persone maak nie. Selfs al is jy onseker of versekering van krag sal wees in ‘n spesifieke geval, word jy aanbeveel om volgens bogenoemde punte op te tree. Nakoming van bogenoemde reëls kom daarop neer dat jy op ‘n “redelike” wyse gehandel het en is die eerste struikelblok op die pad na bevredigende afhandeling van u eis, uit die weg geruim. Hebrews 2: 1 So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. Drifting away from the truth… Something that can happen to anybody. The way we start does not necessarily determine whether we will drift away or not. Many a marriage that started with passionate, committed love gradually drifted into neutral co-living or even divorce. This can happen in any area of our lives – our dreams, our relationships and most importantly also our relationship with God. Drifting does not occur through a deliberate decision to turn our backs on God or what is important. It happens simply in the absence of a deliberate decision to be anchored and set on God’s commandments. Psalm 119:1-8 promises that there is great security in being focused and rooted in the statutes of the Lord. Failure to do so results in casual idolatry – a non-deliberate, gradual shift that dethrones the Lord in our lives and subtly takes us away from the plan and purpose of God, an alternative course that ends in destruction or nothingness. Drifting can be def ined very simply as a state of inaction or indecision that allows us to be swept away by the current. Bearing this in mind, it is not so much about avoiding to do the wrong thing as what it is to actively pursue, body, soul and spirit, that which is important to God. No action, even when we do nothing wrong, equates drifting… The author of Hebrews sternly warns that drifting away is a very real threat to accurate living for any child of God that does not pay very careful attention to the truth (Hebrews 2:1). When we become familiar and comfortable with what is precious and foundational, drifting away becomes inevitable. Drifting is earmarked by a gradual loss of fire and conviction to the point where sin does not seem so bad anymore. Only when we drift, when we are not anchored in the commandments of the Lord, are we susceptible to deception. A drifting ship easily misses its f inal destination; because it ambles about without direction, the likelihood of death and shipwreck is greatly increased. In the same way, drifting away from the truth makes us vulnerable to the point of entirely missing not only on earth, but also in eternity, what God planned for us. Conviction is a sure precaution to drifting. Steady faith in the Word – that the Lord is
who He says He is and that He will do what He promised to do, aligns us with the truth so that it governs our minds and hearts. In order not to drift we need to be fixed in our undivided allegiance to the Lord and His way of doing things. Positioning ourselves in line with God’s instruction sets us on course and keeps us from unintentionally deviating ever so gradually from what He planned and purposed for us. Only when we live with His instruction as our anchor are we prevented from drifting away into disaster, oblivion and / or inaccuracy (Psalm 119:61). Anchored people do not occupy themselves with things that do not advance the Kingdom or add value on an eternal level. As followers of Christ we are commanded to love and commissioned to make disciples. The evidence of drifting away is nowhere more obvious than in our hearts as shown in our actions (or lack thereof). When we lose the love God has for people and the passion we should have for God, our holy assignment from God becomes nothing more than a mere suggestion to us. When we start having ulterior motives and hidden agendas in our interaction with others or start withdrawing from God and those He placed in our lives, it means simply that our hearts have turned away from God and are in desperate need of being set on course again. When we receive Christ, but fail to respond to His call, we are drifting… God expects us to constantly judge ourselves against the standard set in the Word (Psalm 119:6; 2 Corinthians 13:5). We need to ensure, deliberately check on a daily basis that we have not inadvertently steered off course. As we judge ourselves, the infinite mercy and grace of God is found in this – even when we are a million miles away from God, we are always one decision away from being safely anchored and secured in Him again. We can escape the deadly drift by repenting and turning our hearts back to God. If you’ve been drifting, why not throw your anchor out right now? Why not determine to not be aimlessly floating for one more moment? Repent and allow God to change you. Steer clear of the deadly drift by anchoring yourself in His commandments so that you can reach your destination successfully.

Stop die geweld, veg vir jou kind
Twee manlike verdagtes is in hegtenis geneem weens ‘n rooftog by drankwinkel. Tydens die oopsluit van die besigheid op 27 Oktober 2013 het drie mans Liquor Sellers in Rensburg, Heidelberg beroof. Die verdagtes het ‘n vuurwapen op die personeel gerig en beveel om die kluis te open. Daar word beweer dat die verdagtes kontant, sigarette en drank ter waaarde van R20 000 gebuit het. Op Donderdag, 29 Mei 2014 is die rowers deur die Brakpan Polisiestasie se taakspan in hegtenis geneem. Verdagtes word ook gekoppel aan ‘n klag van gewapende roof te Brakpan in 2013, vragmotorkaping te Springs en Benoni in April vanjaar. Die verdagtes sal binnekort in die Heidelberg Landdroshof verskyn.
Arrested A 21 year old male suspect was arrested after stolen items were found in his possession. W/O Wolmarans and his crew were doing routine vehicle patrols on May 27 at Shalimar Ridge, Heidelberg. They spotted a young male walking along the road towards a local scrap metal dealer. The man carried curtain rails, aluminium window burglar frames as well as other items. The suspect was arrested for being in possession of stolen items and will appear in Heidelberg Magistrate court.
Vasgetrek vir bedrog Twee werknemers van Pick n Pay is vasgetrek vir bedrog. Op Dinsdag 27 Mei het Heidelberg SAPD twee manlike werknemers in hegtenis geneem. Daar word beweer dat die vleis skaal operateur, vleis aan ‘n medewerknemer geprys het vir ‘n goedkoper bedrag. Die vloerbestuurder het onraad gemerk en die gebeure op ‘n afstand aanskou en onder-soek gaan instel na die aankope. By die betaalpunt is die werknemer gevra vir die aankoop strokie en daar is bevind dat die vleis foutief geprys is. Beide ver-dagtes gaan in die Heidelberg Landroshof verskyn.

Samewerking is noodsaaklik om ‘n beskermende omgewing te skep vir kinders teen mishandeling, uitbuiting en verwaarlosing. Nasionale Kinderbeskermingsweek word herdenk in Suid-Afrika vanaf 1 tot 8 Junie. Die doel van hierdie week is om die veiligheid, welstand, versorging en beskerming van kinders te verseker asook om die bewustheid van die regte van kinders te beklemtoon. Kinders lui skade as gevolg van wanvoeding, skuiling, toegang tot behoorlike gesondheidsorg, verwaarlosing, geweld, molestering, kinderpornografie, handeldryf en ondoeltreffende onderwys. ‘n Afrikaanse gesegde stel dit so mooi: “dit neem ‘n gemeenskap om ‘n kind op te voed.” In die Suid-Afrikaanse Handves van Regte word bepaal dat kinders ‘n reg het op ‘n naam, burgerskap, ‘n vorm van versorging, kos en skuiling. Dit word ook bepaal dat kinders ‘n reg het om beskerm te word teen mishandeling, verwaarlosing en skande. Dit is die gemeenskap se plig om hulle te beskerm teen skadelike invloede in kulturele en sosiale lewe. Die kinders van vandag is môre se toekoms. Kom ons bou aan die toekoms, kom ons hou ons kinders veilig en gee hul net die beste wat hulle verdien.

Reminder to all Immigration World no tobacco day should be a reminder of what tobacco does. World no tobacco day May 31, 2014, should be used as a reminder for South Africans of the dangers of tobacco. Our youth continue to be the most vulnerable in starting the use of tobacco products. With information and education we can counter the clever marketing produced by tobacco companies which makes our youth nicotine addicts. It has become a norm for tobacco companies to advertise some of their products as “light”, filtered”, “low tar”, “menthol” and even “fruit flavoured” thus implying that these products aren’t as dangerous as they would ordinarily be. This is simply not the case. The scary fact is that according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) most smokers start smoking before the age of 18 and almost a quarter start using tobacco before the age of 10! According to the WHO, harsh anti-tobacco graphic warnings on packaging reduce the number of children who begin smoking and increase the number of smokers who quit. Today tobacco comes disguised in different ways such as in the form of water pipes, hubbly bubblies or hookah-smoking. This is prevalent particularly amongst young people. CANSA (Cancer Association of South Africa) can help people addicted to tobacco to kick this habit with its eKick Butt programme. A speculative analysis of these regulations would suggest that Home Affairs is trying to remedy or rather, cover-up its rampant permit backlogs by imposing potentially detrimental legislation instead of addressing the mismanagement issues within the department. A main concern with these regulations is that all mention of fees, f ines, investment, f inancial means or income criteria, as well as critical skills list, and lists of industries that are in the “national interest” are excluded. They have also not been subject to public comment and scrutiny. The regulations various omissions and shortcomings raise some constitutional issues. In the meantime, I will write to the new Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba, and request a formal meeting to discuss the detrimental impact of these regulations. Investors, tourists, students and potentially skilled immigrants are likely to be dissuaded by these stringent regulations, in turn jeopardising much-needed job creation and foreign investment. Minister Gigaba’s dismissive attitude towards public outcry and personal appeals regarding these regulations sets a worrisome tone for the new Home Affairs Minister’s term. Manny de Freitas.
Star gazing Friends of Marievale club enjoy star gazing during an evening of pure bliss. On the moonless evening of May 27 the club came together at Marievale Bird Sanctuary. Stan Madden the founder of the sanctuary took the visitors from all over Gauteng for a tour on the grounds before the dark set in. This is a perfect spot to show bird lovers and people who enjoy the nature. It was an evening of socializing around the campf ire and with the sky being perfectly clear. The star Saturn was visible
through a powerful telescope, which was set up. During this occasion a lot was learnt about the night sky. Star gazing is only possible when no moon is present. Friends of Marievale club have a meeting once a month in the Conference centre at the sanctuary. They are connected to WESSA, a wild life Association of SouthAfrica. The club is committed to keep the sanctuary in good condition for all nature and bird lovers. Star gazing evenings are held up to two times a year if the weather permits it.

2014/15 Budget overview Given the good story of 20 years of service delivery, we have thus crafted a budget with the following view: Financial Overview Our revenue is R85 billion which is made up of R28 billion in 2014/15 representing an increase of 5.7% year on year. The main contributors to the R28 billion are: R4 billion from assessment rates, R12 billion from electricity sales, R1 billion from refuse collection, R4 billion from water and sanitation, R5 billion from government grants and R2 billion from other revenue. Proposed Tariff The following tariff increase is being proposed: 7.5% on assessment rates, 6.3% to 7.6% on electricity, 8.1% increase on water for residential and business, 8% on sanitation for residential and business and refuse removal increases between 2.4% to 7.1% for residents and 6% for business. The average increase on accounts will be about 7.3% compared to the 9.3% average increase in 2013/2014 budget. Social support package The first R150 000 on property value is exempted from assessment rates, an additional rebate for property assessments for pensioners from 10% to 100%, churches and NGO’s are exempted from assessment rates, 6 kilolitres of water and sanitation service for free and 100 kilowatts electricity free to low end users. Transport, roads and stormwater R4 billion allocated on transport, roads and stormwater. Transport: R1.7 billion for the Integrated Rapid Public Transport Network. Roads and Stormwater: R379 million (R135 million 2014/2015) for continued rehabilitation of roads. R259 million (R78 million 2014/2015) for roads infrastructure in the low cost housing
areas. R171 million (R63 million 2014/ 2015) for the construction of tertiary roads. R280 million (R100 million 2014/2015) for stormwater upgrades. Energy R1.9 billion will be spent on electricity network infrastructure. R102 million (R26 million 2014/2015) for increasing the provision of public lighting covering street and 72 high mast lighting. R491 million (R161 million 2014/2015) towards corporate electrif ication. R228 million (R47 million for 2014/2015) for the installation of protective structures and pre-payment meters to prevent electricity theft, vandalism and for safety. R852 million (R92 million) for substation and to minimise network downtime and unnecessary electricity outages. Water and sanitation R1.3 billion will be spent on water and sanitation network infrastructure R450 million (R150 million 2014/2015) water loss programme. R284 million (R100 million 2014/2015) upgrading water networks. Community safety Disaster and Emergency: R174 million (R57 million 2014/2015) for fire stations, this will cover among others Albertina Sisulu Corridor, Duduza, Kwa–Thema, Germiston, Thokoza and Katlehong. R96 million (R29 million 2014/2015) for specialized vehicles. Customer relations management We have allocated R60 million of which R44 million relates to 2014/2015. R33 million for upgrading and construction of Nigel, Tembisa1 & 2, Vosloorus, Benoni, Brakpan, Boksburg, Germiston, Kempton Park, Daveyton and Springs customer care centres.

Kuns is haar lewe Hester Janse van Rensburg het Heidelberg haar tuiste gemaak in 2002. Dit is in die historiese dorpie waar sy haar liefde vir kuns uitleef met ‘n passie. Hester is gebore in Kwa-Zulu Natal op ‘n plaas naby Estcort. Dis hier waar sy in haar kinderdae die liefde van kuns ontdek het, deur kreatiewe tekeninge te skep in die sand en lewe te gee aan potloodsketse. Sy het na haar skool opleiding in 1979 Onderwys gaan studeer by die Onderwyskollege, Goudstad in Johannesburg. Een agtermiddag terwyl sy lusteloos in die hoof se kantoor sit tref die gedagte haar dat sy nie meer lus is vir onderwys nie. Sy wil eerder haar tyd spandeer voor ‘n esel met ‘n kwas in haar hand en die reuk van verf in die lug. Daardie dag het sy die onderwys beroep vaarwel gegroet. In 2000 het Hester met geen formele opleiding, voltyds begin skilder. Van haar skeppings pronk regoor Suid-Afrika in menigte mense se wonings en selfs kantore. Sy is lief daarvoor om met olieverf te werk asook potlood en haar werke wissel van landskappe, stillewes, portrette en haar “stoeltjie” reeks. Haar skeppings verskyn in verskeie SA tydskrifte onder meer in “SA Home Owner”. Sy het selfs ‘n muurskildery in Heidelberg gemaak by die Verkeersentrum vir Kinders. Haar ateljee is by haar huis en dis hier waar sy gedurende die week kursusse aanbied vir opkomende kunstenaars wat wissel van oud na jonk. Deesdae spog Hester dat die skryf gogga haar ook gebyt het. Om woorde op ‘n

Sy het onlangs vir ‘n kortverhaal kursus ingeskryf en besluit om haar storie “Man met die rooi serp” aan te stuur na Huisgenoot. Die storie is gepubliseer op 1 Augustus 2013 in Huisgenoot onder die skryfnaam Hester Appelboom. Nog ‘n kortverhaal verskyn in Junie 2014 “Die vrou langsaan” op Vrouekeur se webblad. Haar droom is om eendag haar eie kunsgalery te besit en ‘n outobiografie van haarself te skryf. Die stories uit haar pen is almal kortverhale op die oomblik, maar in die nabye toekoms sal daar beslis ‘n volwaardige storieboek uitgereik word. Hester se raad aan alle opkomende kunstenaars is: Jy kan as jy wil! Indien jy hard werk, selfdissipline en deursettings vermoë het en jou verbind met dit wat jy begin sal jy suksesvol kan wees.

Vertoning van bekende kunstenaar sorg vir vermaak tydens familie dag. Nissan Nigel, Auto City Nigel en Dros Nigel het gesorg vir hope pret en vermaak op Saterdag 31 Mei by Dros Nigel. Gedurende die dag kon families na hartelus, gratis kom luister na Clive Bruce legendariese ‘country sanger’. Clive het ‘n skouspel gelewer van al die vernaamste
liedjies tydens sy loopbaan. Kleuters kon klim en klouter en ouers het die rugbywedstryde op groot skerm geniet. Nissan en Auto City het toetsritte vir die publiek oopgestel en kliënte het elk ‘n R100 geskenkbewys van Dros ontvang. Volgens Marius Venter (tak bestuurder Auto City) is daar menigte geskenkbewyse weggegee gedurende die aangeleentheid. Willem Tromp toetsbestuur die nuwe Nissan Sentra. Saam met hom is Francois Heyns (Nigel Nissan). Francois Heyns van Nigel Nissan, Clive Bruce en Marius Venter van Auto City.
Saggies gee om Laerskool Hannes Visagie loods ‘n projek saam met die Hervormde Kerk ten bate van Nasionale Kinderbeskermingsweek. Tydens hierdie aangeleentheid word daar op kinders se behoeftes gefokus. Die veldtog plaas die klem op die behoeftes van kinders en hul weerloosheid. Op Maandag 26 Mei het Mariëtte Grobler van die Hervormde Kerk te Nigel en Cecile Fick Laerskool Hannes Visagie in Nigel besoek. Tydens saalopening is die leerders ingelig oor armoede. ‘n Beroep is op leerlinge gedoen om blikkies kos gedurende die week vir die minderbevoorregtes in te samel. Na afloop van die saal byeenkoms het die kleuterskool groepie linte en blikke in die bome op die skoolgronde gehang. Die blikke is opgehang om leerlinge daagliks bewus te maak van die blikkieskos wat hul skool toe moet bring. Die linte verteenwoordig hoop, troos en omgee vir jou naaste. Leerders het op Vrydag 30 Mei gewys dat hulle omgee vir die minderbevoorregtes en opgedaag met 1200 blikkies kos asook nie-bederfbare produkte. Gedurende die oggend het klasgroepe torings gebou met die blikkies wat ingesamel is. Plakkate wat gemaak is deur leerlinge is trots omhoog
gehou om hulle betrokkenheid en liefde te toon aan die wat deur hongersnood en armoede geraak word. Tydens die oggend is daar gekyk watter klasgroepie die meeste blikkies ingevorder het en wie se toring die hoogste is. Die graad 5 leerlinge het met die louere weggestap. Meneer Vian, 5K18 het gespog met die hoogste toring en Juffrou Luciana 5K16 het die mooiste plakkate gehad. Die wen klasse is bederf met koeldrank en koek, geskenk deur die Hervormde Kerk, Nigel. Graad 5 leerders met die plakkate wat hul gemaak het.

Suikerbosrand Jeug Rugby begin in volle swang na die Julie vakansie. Suikerbosrand Jeug Rugby is gestig om ‘n liefde en begrip van rugby in te boesem onder jong en ywerige spelers. Al die wedstryde wat tydens die seisoen gespeel word is sosiaal van aard en elke speler word ‘n kans gegun om ‘n wedstryd te speel. Hierdeur word plaaslike talent in ons omgewing bevorder, ontwikkel en behou. Hier is elke speler ‘n wenner, hetsy hulle ‘n wedstryd verloor of gewen het. Alle rugbyspelers van Nigel en omliggende omgewing word hartlik uitgenooi om deel te wees van hierdie unieke klub.
Spelers oefen Dinsdae en Donderdae om 17:30 tot 18:45 by die John Vorster Stadium in Nigel. Die klub besit afrigters wat almal die Bok Smart kursus voltooi het. Die kursus handel oor reëls en spelvaar-dighede. Alhoewel daar alreeds afrigters is, is hulle nie naastenby genoeg nie. Belangstellende afrigters word uitgenooi om die seuns touwys te maak in die fynere kunsies van rugby. Manne maak stof Comrades 2014 Die geesdriftige manne van Nigel 4x4 klub trek skares tydens die boereskou. Op Saterdag 24 Mei het na beraming 10 ywerige 4x4 drywers omstreeks 08:00 weggetrek op die hindernis baan agter Tini Vorster se sportgronde. Na ‘n martelende 8 ure waartydens die deelnemers verskeie hindernisse moes baasraak en punte aanteken, is die drie topwenners aangewys. Standaard klas wenner:
Michael Nel. Gewysigde klas wenner: Danie van Rooyen. Super Trucks wenner: Christo Fourie. Beoordelaars tydens die wedren was Cindy van der Westhuizan en Ludwig Schaffner van Pitbull & Rock and Crawling. Die volgende 4x4 geleentheid waaraan Nigel klub gaan deelneem is die Pitbull Series wat op 5 Julie te Centurion sal plaasvind.
The annual ultra-marathon race of approximately 90km was held for the 89th time between Pietermaritzburg and Durban. On Sunday June 1, Anthony Motaung from Ratanda and Christiaan Cloete from Heidelberg completed this exhausting race. Anthony has run the Comrades Marathon for the 4th year and finished it in a time of 7:33 hours. He received the Bill Rowan medal (bronzecentered circled by a silver ring), missing the silver medal by only 3 minutes. He started to compete in the Comrades in 2010 after a friend encouraged him to run this ultimate marathon. Anthony’s fastest time running the comrades was in 2012 when he finished in a time of 7:15 hours and received a silver medal. He will be competing again next year in attempt to win the silver medal. He is running for the Suikerbosrand club. Christiaan Cloete has completed his 10th comrades in a time of 9:46:16 hours. He received a bronze medal and his Green Number. The Green Number is given to those who have run 10 comrades races.
This number belongs to the runner forever. He started competing in 2001 and since then received 10 medals. Christiaan’s fastest running time was in 2002 with a time of 07:51:18 hours. He received a Bill Rowan medal. Christiaan will be hanging up his running shoes this year after running nearly 10 000 to 15 000 km during the past 10 years. We congratulate these runners for their endurance, self-discipline and courage. Well done to all the athletes whom completed the marathon.
