Fotograwe sowel as voëlkykers besoek gereeld die reservaat om die verskillende spesies op lens vas te vang of te bestudeer. Die naweek van 6 Julie was egter ‘n groot ontnugtering vir ‘n voël entoesias en sy familie tydens ‘n besoek aan die reservaat. Dit wil voorkom dat wilddiewe die reservaat gebruik as ‘n speelplek en die voëls van die omgewing teiken. ‘n Verdagte bakkie is tydens die dag opgemerk waarvan ‘n jong seun afgespring het en ‘n beseerde voël van die grond af opgetel het. Die besoeker het die seun dopgehou en waargeneem hoe die seun die vlerke van die voël uitsprei. Nadat die seun besef het dat hy dopgehou word het hulle vinnig spore gemaak. Daar word beweer dat onwettige wilddiewe gebruik maak van die alternatiewe ingang wat geleë is agter die ou weermag kamp en nie die hoofingang nie. Dis kommerwekkend om te dink dat hierdie reservaat eintlik ‘n veilige heenkome moet bied vir voël lewe. Die voorsitter van Marievalle voëlreservaat sowel die voorsitter van WESA is in kennis gestel van die voorval. Ongelukkig is daar nie genoegsame bewyse om die oortreders aan die pen te laat ry nie. JAARLIKSE WAARDASIE VAN JUWELIERSWARE Waardevolle juweliersware kan teen ‘n ekstra premie op jou polis gespesifiseer word om teleurstelling by verliese te voorkom. Die groot ontevredenheid by die afhandeling van eise, is gewoonlik die volgende: Voorbeeld: Die versekerde spesifiseer ‘n trouring vir ‘n bedrag van R20 000 en die versekeraar betaal slegs R15 000 (minus die bybetaling) uit in die geval van ‘n kontantskikking soos verkies deur die versekerde. Die rede hiervoor is dat die versekeraar die ring kon vervang vir R15 000. Die Menseregtekommissie het bevind dat 17% van kinders uit ‘n arm agtergrond eers matriek behaal op die ouderdom van 20 jaar. So lui ‘n bevinding van ‘n studie wat onlangs deur die MRK (Menseregtekommissie) en die VN se Kinderfonds in SuidAfrika bekend gestel is oor die impak van armoede op Suid-Afrikaanse kinders. Kinders wat in armoede gebore word se kans op goeie opvoeding is skraal omrede die meeste arm skole se skoolstelsel swak is. Wanneer hulle tyd kom om die
skoolbanke te verlaat is die aanvraag vir onervare en ongeskoolde werkers skaars. Hulle beweer dat die handjie vol wat wel bevoorreg is om ‘n werk te kry, nie ‘n goeie salaris sal ontvang of op langetermyn ‘n vaste inkomste verdien nie. Volgens die verslag het armoede wel afgeneem gedurende die laaste 14 jaar. Die grootste rol om armoede te verminder en kinders te help is die instelling van die kindertoelae stelsel. Daar moet egter meer gedoen word om armoede te bekamp volgens hierdie studie.
Think of what you hear From the desk of Rev Ray Goddess I have recently been chatting with many folk who have questions about life and especially about religion (ie all religion not just Christianity). My concern is that with the ease in which we can get information through the media folk seem to believe stuff that is not true. Just because it is on the internet and just because it says that it is true does not mean that it is indeed true. People have always been and will always be gullible and get “caught out” with schemes and untruths. I feel that we need to make a conscious decision to look into information on the internet and also programs that are shown on TV and make sure that what we are hearing (and believing) is indeed truth. I was speaking to someone at hospital and they came up with all sorts of answers to what was wrong with their Mother. When I started to ask a few questions I came to realize that they were not relating what the doctor had said but rather what they had read on the internet. Now I believe that it is good to do your own research but at the same time we need to be careful of believing everything that is published on the internet. In the same way I was chatting with someone last week who had some questions about Christianity and when I asked where they got the information from they told me it was from a program that they had watched on TV. The fact is that what was said on the program was not Biblical truth and this resulted in someone questioning their religion and wondering if they should go to church or not. The
Rev Goddess, Heidelberg Methodist Church problem I found with this situation was that the person was so convinced that what he had heard was truth that it took me quite a while to make sure that he understood that what he believed was not what it says in the Bible. My concern is this. How many people are being led astray in their lives and decisions about people? How many people are doing things that are damaging to their bodies and life because they have heard untruth from the internet? How many people are moving away from God because of untruth heard on TV or read on the internet? This, I believe, is one of the reasons that people are struggling in life. Life is becoming confusing and they do not know where to turn or who to believe. As Christians we need to make sure that what we are doing and believing is Biblical and can be shown directly in the Bible. If we get this right I believe that many more folk would be attending church and living a life that they can be proud of.

Fear not! Exodus 3:9 Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. 10Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” 11But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” 12So He said, “I will certainly be with you. (NKJV) Fear, a very familiar emotion to all humanity, is the exact opposite of faith. Faith is rooted in a firm conviction that God is willing and able to do what He promised to do in His Word. This conviction is birthed and established through hearing and internalizing the Word of God on a personal level. Fear on the other hand is a f irm conviction rooted in the flesh – human opinions, the things we see and experience, our own thoughts and the feedback we get from others. The Bible is very clear about the fact that God does not give us a spirit of fear, but of love, power and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). One of the many things we fear is stepping into and embracing what we know to be God’s plan for our lives. Many times we find it inconceivable that His plans can be better than our own. What God has for us is often different from what we have in mind for ourselves. In addition to this, God’s plans interrupt our lives in ways we perceive as inconvenient and uncomfortable. If we can be obedient to His direction in spite of our fear or lack of understanding though, God Himself takes responsibility for working the beautiful outcome He planned on from the beginning. Moses found himself at a comfortable place in his life when God called him to be the leader that would direct His people out of slavery and the oppression of Egypt and the Pharaoh. As he responded to God’s call on his life, he was taken out of everything familiar and predictable into a new chapter of his life, the bigger picture of God’s plan and purpose for him. The moment Moses was confronted with the direction in which God wanted to steer his life, his heart was gripped by fear. He found himself overwhelmed with valid
justification of why he could not possibly be the right person for the task at hand. By nature people fear change. We have a natural propensity towards what is wellknown and falls within the scope of our experience. Because of this we often find it challenging and diff icult to grow. Without change there is no growth. The Bible teaches us that God wants us to change, in fact to be transformed, by aligning our way of thinking to the Word of God (Romans 12:2). Unless we direct our faith in the right direction we will never be able to step into the God-plan for our lives. God was fully aware of the fact that Moses was utterly and completely incapable of fulfilling the mandate He gave him on his own, hence the beautiful promise God blesses him with in Exodus 3:12 – that God Himself will accompany Moses. Maybe you feel just like Moses when you think about the call of God on your life – overwhelmed, inadequate and scared to the point of being unwilling. If you can remember who you are and who you belong to, that you are sent on a mission by the Living God that not only calls you, but also enables you, you can face and successfully overcome the fear that would keep you from the greatness God has for you. Only when you allow the Word of God to speak louder in your life than the voices of people, the traumas and hurts of the past or the opinions of family and friends, will you be able to go beyond what is humanly possible into what God has for you. If you believe what the Word says, it can be for you exactly the same it was for the Israelites as they started invading the Promised Land (Joshua 2:9). Even though they were inferior to the nations they needed to conquer in so many ways, God went before them and made the impossible possible. As they put their faith in God through obedient action, God gave them victories far beyond what they could ever dream or hope to achieve in their own strength. If you could but believe, He will do the same for you today! Be challenged to permanently let go of fear in every area of your life. Choose the God-plan, live it and as you do so never forget that a person in purpose is a person greatly feared by the enemy!

Choas Metaal en ingenieurs industrie word lamgelê tydens NUMSA staking. Numsa lede in die metaal- en ingenieurswese-sektor het vanaf 1 Julie gestaak. Hulle eis ‘n 15% salarisverhoging en ‘n R1000 behuisingstoelae in ‘n een-jaar bedinging ooreenkoms. Verder wil hulle ‘n einde maak aan die gebruik van arbeidsmakelaars in die bedryf. Die werkgewersorganisasie tesame met die Nasionale Unie van Metaalwerkers (Numsa) is tans besig met bilaterale onderhandelinge in ‘n poging om ‘n oplossing te vind. Op die vergadering het Neasa sy huidige posisie bevestig aan Numsa. Neasa het die verdediging aangevoer dat die loonaanbod onderhewig sal wees aan ‘n ooreenkoms tot die vestiging van ‘n verlaagde intreevlakloon, ten opsigte van nuwe inskrywings. Dit is egter teleurstellend dat Numsa nie die kwessies wil bespreek nie. Die werkgewersorganisasie Staal en Ingenieurs Industriële Federasie van SuidAfrika (Seifsa) het ‘n drie jaar-loonaanbod ter tafel gelê, met ‘n verhoging van tussen 8% en 10% vir verskillende vlakke van werkers in die eerste jaar. Die eerste kategorie werker is 7% aangebied vir 2015 en 2016, terwyl ander werkers 9% in die tweede jaar, en 8% in die finale jaar aangebied is. Naesa het 8% aangebied, onderhewig aan ‘n ooreenkoms dat intreevlakwerkers se lone verlaag word en maatreëls om die bedryf meer buigsaam te maak.

Die metaal industrie en Suid-Afrika staar baie moeilike uitdagings in die gesig. Aan die eenkant is daar werkers wat sukkel om kop bo water te hou en aan die anderkant kan die werkgewers eenvoudig nie aan die werkers se loon verwagtinge voldoen nie. Neasa is die grootste organisasie in SuidAfrika wat die belange van werkgewers op die hart dra. Dit het ‘n ledetal van 23000 werkgewers en is ook die grootste werkgewersorganisasie in die Metaal-en Ingenieurswese Bedingingsraad, met ongeveer 3000 klein en medium-grootte ondernemings. Indien Numsa voortgaan om die werkgewers te boelie met lone wat hulle nie kan bekostig nie, sal die agteruitgang en uiteindelike vernietiging van die bedryf bespoedig word. Ten spyte van toenemende beeldmateriaal ontken die vakbond Numsa dat hul lede buite die grense van die wet optree. Vele maatskappye het egter deurgeloop deur vandalisme. Nie-stakende werkers is geïntimideer en selfs aangerand deur stakers en hulle regte word oor die hoof gesien deur die vakbonde. Meeste van die fabrieke en besighede is gedwing om hulle deure tydens die staking te sluit. Die besigheidsektor word lamgelê omrede produksie nie voort kan gaan nie en die ekonomie van Suid-Afrika ly daaronder. Intussen word talle huishoudings geraak deur die “geen werk – geen betaling” beleid. Die toekoms van Janallerman lyk troebel in Suid-Afrika met sy gedurende stakings en geweld.

Drug dealer Car nabbed collision
Nigerian whom was out on bail was arrested for possession and the dealing of drugs. On June 27, Heidelberg Police were conducting a Station Special Operation when they spotted a suspicious white Ford Bantam. Police went to the vehicle and requested to search the driver and the vehicle. Whilst W/O Johannes Lukas Wolmarans and Sergeant Vusumuzi Zondo were searching the vehicle, they found CAT and Heroine drugs valued at R6 000 wrapped in a transparent or see through plastic. The suspect was arrested and will appear before the Heidelberg Magistrate on July 22.
A middle aged man died after his vehicle collided head on with a FAW truck. On June 27, 2014 the deceased and an Ekurhuleni Metro Police employee was involved in a collision along the R23 road at Driemanskap Plots, Heidelberg. It is alleged that the deceased was travelling from Heidelberg to Benoni when his metallic grey Toyota Cressida collided head on with a truck that was travelling from Benoni to Heidelberg. The driver of the Toyota Cressida was certified dead on the scene and the 34 year old truck driver escaped unharmed.

High Speed chase Two traffic officers were shot by unknown suspects and sustained serious injuries. On Thursday June 26, 2014, two Gauteng Provincial Traffic Officers were patrolling the R550 road in the direction of Nigel. They were overtaken by a white VW Golf 6 on barrier or solid line at Glenroy Farming area. The officers turned on the blue lights and a siren to signal the driver of the Golf to stop, but the car accelerated and sped off. The officers gave chase.
One of the occupants of the suspect’s vehicle protruded through the window and started firing several shots towards the Traffic Officer’s vehicle with a rifle. Both Traffic officers were hit and sustained serious injuries. They were taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Heidelberg Police opened an Attempted Murder docket and are appealing to readers to contact SAPS crime Line 08600 10111 or Lt. Col. Groenewald at 016 341 5175.

No to drugs and Illicit trafficking MEC for Social Development, Nomsa Mtsweni, hosted an event as part of the commemoration of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26, 2014 at Balfour Siyathemba Thusong Service Centre. The event started with a “health walk” in which more than 1000 members of community, including school children participated. The walk took place from Corner Letsoko and Zwane Streets to Siyathemba Thusong Service Centre in Balfour. The school children handed over a pledge to the MEC. The community members had an opportunity to engage with the MEC on issues of substance abuse since it had become a problem in the Balfour community, especially amongst the youth. MEC, Nomsa Mtsweni said that Government has a responsibility to counteract both drug trafficking and drug abuse, but communities can also make a major contribution. Families, schools, civil society and religious organizations can do their part to get rid of drugs in their communities. The media can also play an important role to raise awareness about the
dangers of drugs. The Department of Social Development will continue to support all registered community based treatment centres to deliver this specialized service to the communities of Mpumalanga province. Local Drug Action Committees in all 18 municipalities will also be trained to enable them to render prevention services and awareness campaigns. The event was a joint initiative by stakeholders as mandated by the Mpumalanga Anti-Drug Master Plan and Integrated School Safety Strategy. The main stakeholders were SAPS, DoE, DCSSL, DoH, and NPO’s in the field of substance abuse prevention. The joint prevention campaign started in April 2014 and it will continue for the whole year to realize the objectives of the Integrated School safety Strategy and drug Master plan. The emerging issues which emanated from the school visits are theft of school property, bullying, abuse of substances such as dagga, alcohol, cigarettes, glue, and disrespect of authority and bunking of classes.

Safe driving
Continued learning is essential for safe driving. While you might not be able to control how other people behave, you can control your role on the roads with proactive driving. Proactive driving means constantly refreshing your driving skills through professional training. People think that because they’ve been driving for many years, they know all they need to know about road safety and vehicle control. Experienced drivers are often the biggest menace because they’ve become relaxed when they’re driving. By updating our defensive driving skills drivers can help by making the road environment safer. The various advanced driving courses available in South Africa aim to assist motorists in becoming more competent, confident and safer drivers. It reduces key risk behaviours and teaches people how to avoid or handle emergency situations. By creating a safe environment inside and outside the vehicle, advanced driving skills has a benefit towards the vehicle itself. There is less wear and tear on brakes, clutch and gears. Fuel consumption is lower and in some cases insurance premiums might be lower as well. An important skill is the ability to monitor emotions and to deal with incidents effectively, recognising your contribution to the situation. Road rage incidents can be avoided if the driver stays in control and is less likely to be caught off guard. Anticipating what another driver might do and moving out of the way helps reduce the risk.
Drivers must be aware of all hazards and risks. Quick and appropriate response is required when other drivers behave irresponsibly. Always maintain a safe following distance and be aware of all vehicles near you. Aggressive drivers are a danger, but so are inattentive drivers who are distracted by events happening inside the vehicle itself. While driving you have to be focussed on the task at hand to avoid potential accidents. South Africa has an exceptionally high number of pedestrian deaths every year. Unfortunately the road infrastructure does not cater for pedestrians so drivers need to become more conscious and adapt their speed in locations. You can’t control the actions of others, but you can be proactive. An advanced driving course helps you to develop skills such as hazard perception and more assertive driving. Following are a few additional tips for improved road safety: Be aware of motorcycles, think bike. Keep an eye out for pedestrians at intersections. Ensure that your windscreen view in not obscured by a larger vehicle. Rather move over to a lane where you can view at least two to three cars ahead of you, so you have room to manoeuvre should you need to brake in an emergency. Be aware of other drivers’ actions. Illicit cigarettes Police are making headway in dismantling the illicit cigarette smuggling syndicates costing the country millions of Rands in lost revenue annually. According to SARS spokesperson Adrian Lackay, the 2012-13 financial years saw seized illicit cigarettes with a value of R63.4m, and counterfeit cigarettes with a value of R467 860. Lackay said they were aware that a significant number of illicit cigarettes were consumed in South Africa each year. According to Lackay the prevalence of the trade in and consumption of illicit cigarettes in the South African market undermines the government’s efforts to reduce the negative health impacts of
cigarette smoking. Hawks spokesperson Capt. Paul Ramaloko said that they are making inroads to catch the ringleaders of the trade. He said most of the cheap cigarettes posed a great health risk due to the lethal additives and mixers in them. The Tobacco Institute of Southern Africa (Tisa) warned the growing illicit tobacco trade was costing the economy. Tisa CEO Francois van der Merwe said that the government had lost tax revenue generated by the legal industry which for 2013 stood at R11bn. Independent research estimates that for 2013, almost 60% of illegal cigarettes found in the SA market, were manufactured locally, while almost 40% were smuggled from Zimbabwe.

No intimidation I have been inundated with calls and emails from Gauteng motorists who have been stopped at various roadblocks. Motorists have shared their experiences with me of how they have been intimidated and threatened by SANRAL and traffic officials. Motorists were being intimidated and threatened into registering with e-tolls This is simply illegal and criminal. Motorists must not be intimidated in any way. There is no compulsion and no legislation to force anyone to sign up to e-tolls. In any case, if such legislation were to exist it would not pass constitutional muster. It is clear that SANRAL is desperate to increase its e-toll subscriptions. It also is desperate to improve its income as clearly the peaceful resistance campaign by the public is working. I am writing to SANRAL CEO, Nazir Alli requesting to meet him to discuss this most concerning matter. When stopped at those roadblocks and one is made to feel uncomfortable, ask the officer to produce his/her certificate of appointment and take note of his/her name and traffic authority he/she works for. The Officer is obliged to identify him- or herself. Should the officer refuse to do so, simply take note of the registration number of the official vehicle on site. Officials may not make enquiries into e-tolls and whether one is registered or not. Nothing obliges one to respond to these questions. Do not be intimidated! Railway thieves Railway line thieves nabbed after city of Ekurhuleni’s intervention. Ekurhuleni’s Member of the Mayoral Committee on Transport, Cllr Thumbu Mahlangu has taken a lead in ensuring that alleged steel thieves in Duduza are captured. The SAPS acted swiftly and staged a stakeout on Tuesday, July 5. Five suspects’ was arrested on site for attempted theft of railway steel, in the early hours of the morning. The arrests follow the City of Ekurhuleni’s request for the area to be patrolled. The suspects were taken to Dunnotter Police Station for questioning. The men have not been charged as yet. This criminal activity, suspected to be an organized crime, is threatening more than 800 jobs at a train refurbishing assembly plant in Nigel. This after cutting over 3km of railway, bringing to a halt all operations at the plant, which relies solely on the cargo line for the movement of it’s newly built or refurbished trains. Cllr Thumbu Mahlangu acted swiftly by recently calling an urgent site visit with all relevant stakeholders to find a speedy solution, in order to assist affected private businesses in the area and to ultimately save jobs.

Plaaslike Nigelliet doen dit weereens. Cindy van der Westhuizen het aan die Pit Bull 4x4 Challenge gehou by die Centurion Lifestyle Outdoor Park te Pretoria gedurende die naweek van 5 Julie deelgeneem. Toeskouers het na die gebeurtenis gestroom om drywers sowel as navigators se vernuf op die rotsagtige baan met sy vele gate en hobbels te aanskou. Die noodlot was amper teen die ywerige 4x4 entoesias weens ‘n borg wat onttrek het. Gelukkig het iemand tot haar redding gekom en kon sy die dag meemaak. Cindy
en haar navigator, Monica Lloyd, het die uitmergelende hindernisbaan suksesvol voltooi en eerste plek verower in die dames klas. Cindy vertel dat die koste verbonde aan so ‘n uitdaging meer as R1500 beloop weens die koste van brandstof. Dit is nie vir haar altyd moontlik om fondse te bekom nie en sy benodig ‘n borgskap om haar droom uit te leef. Daar word eenmaal ‘n maand ‘n 4x4 uitdaging gehou by verskeie dorpe. Moordende oefensessie Nigel CrossFit ondersteun “Suicide Saturday”. CrossFit entoesiaste reg oor Suid-Afrika het aan ‘n “Suicide” CrossFit kompetisie deelgeneem. Fondse gegenereer tydens die insameling is ten bate van die CrossFit PBM span. Die PBM span het deur gedring na die CrossFit Games na hul oorwinning by CrossFit African Regionals. Die Games word in Amerika aangebied en die span
benodig fondse om hul onkostes te dek. Twintig deelnemers van Nigel het aan die Suicide CrossFit by John Vorster Stadium op Saterdag 21 Junie deelgeneem en het ongeveer R3000 ingesamel. Tydens die verrigtinge is spiere gebult en stamina van deelnemers tot die uiterste getoets. Daar was goeie sportmanskap aan die dag verleen alhoewel dit ‘n moordende uitdaging was.
