Local Nigel resident is flaunted in famous magazine during women’s month. Georgina Scott has a heart for charity since her childhood. For the past 21 years she hosted an annual Christmas party for the less fortunate children of Nigel. It is this act of kindness that motivated her colleague and friend, Marlene Rossouw, to nominate her for the “Feel-good-do-good Woman 2014”. This competition was launched by Finesse magazine to identify women who use their unique talents to make a difference in society. Georgina is one of eight finalists who were invited to participate in a photo-shoot held by Finesse. During the day she met famous women from all over South Africa, including Natasha Suttherland and Vinette Ebrahim of 7de Laan. Throughout the day,
she was treated like a queen with her own custom clothing designer, hair stylist and makeup artist. This occasion was an experience of a lifetime for Georgina. She appears in the August edition of Finesse. On Saturday, July 19 Georgina along with the other finalists, attended an afternoon high-tea at Stone Cradle in Pretoria. At this event she was nominated second in the “Feel-good-do-good Woman 2014”
outside the limelight category. The “Bravo!” crew from KykNet filmed the event and it was aired in the first week of August. She made a speech about life lessons learnt. Always grateful for the small things in life and to be humble. For Georgina it is all about making a difference in people’s lives. The Finesse experience was collecting memories and a great experience.

I saw an advert on the back of a magazine. It read TURN YOUR HOME INTO A WI-FI HOTSPOT. Now I am not punting or going against the advert but what came to my mind is this: why don’t we change our home into a CHRISTIAN hotspot? We are quite willing to spend money on converting our home to a wi-fi hotspot yet when it comes to changing our life and making a positive difference to your life, the life of your family and the life of your friends we tend to become very stingy. What can the wi-fi hotspot bring? In all fairness it opens the world to an information source that cannot be matched and can never be exhausted by any of us in an entire lifetime. At the same time it tends to “steal” time from us. We don’t seem to have enough time to read a book, play with the kids or chat to our spouse – but we have always got time to surf the net and download movies and silly clips. Further to this the wi-f i hotspot often interferes with our family time and can lead to separation because of “living a lonely life”. Why not use the wi-fi hotspot to look for some interesting reading material (Kindle will work) that is Biblically based and will help and aid our relationship with our spouse through the love and grace of Jesus. Or why not download a good Biblical based film and watch this with the whole family and make a commitment to each other to live a life closer to God. Why not have a look and see how the entire family can become involved in a project

A truck owner and colleagues were arrested for the theft of steel at Spaarwater Plots. On Saturday, August 2 plot owner Mr Lucky Mosekeli noticed suspicious activity in the neighbouring plot. He went to investigate the activity. On his arrival the suspects were driving away with a blue Isuzu truck. Mosekeli corned them in his vehicle at c/ o R23 Road and 3rd Street at Spaarwater Plot area and summand the Heidelberg police. The quick response of Cst Sello Nonyana and Cst Themba Sangweni of Sector 1 Heidelberg SAPS, lead to the arrest of the

truck owner and his colleagues. One suspect known as Moroti fled the scene. The suspects are allegedly from Villa Lisa Location, Dawn Park, East-Rand in Johannesburg. Police seized an un-roadworthy blue Isuzu Truck loaded with heavy gutted steel bars as well as round bars, black 59.5kg gas cylinder bottle, 9kg orange gas cylinder bottle, cutting torch with its cables, spade, 2 x long badge ropes, black protective eye glass, and reflector jacket. The item seized is estimated to a huge amount of money. The arrested suspects will appear before Heidelberg Magistrate soon

A Motswana truck driver sustained head injuries in a hijacking that occurred at the Jacob’s Off-Ramp, N3 Freeway. On Monday August 4, the 35 year old truck driver was travelling from Durban to Johannesburg. He was signalled to stop at the Jacob’s OffRamp by a traffic officer. The officer was standing next to a white VW Golf with Traffic Police markings as well as a blue light. It is alleged that when the victim stopped, he was threatened. If he did not comply with their demands they would kill him. Whilst he was still talking to the f irst bogus traffic officer, 4 suspects appeared and one of them struck him with a firearm. They tied his hands and he was left abandoned at Glenroy Farming Area. The white Mercedes Benz truck with packaging materials was taken. The suspects are unknown and the police are appealing to anyone with information to contact Heidelberg Police: 016 341 4553 or 8600 10111.

Trollies vol vir honger magies Rotary Anns maak ‘n verskil in ons gemeenskap deur na die behoefte van minderbevoorregte gesinne om te sien. Die Nigel Rotary Anns het ‘n projek geloods op Saterdag 2 Augustus by die Angelo Superspar te Nigel. Daar is ‘n beroep op die gemeenskap gedoen om nie-bederfbare produkte te skenk tydens die oggend. Daar is soveel huishoudings in Nigel gemeenskap wat onder die broodlyn leef. Die Rotary Anns reik uit deur op ‘n gereelde basis kospakkies aan behoeftige
gesinne te skenk. Met die vorige projek was hulle in staat om aan 83 gesinne kospakkies te oorhandig voor die aanvang van die vakansie. Gesinne vanuit Hannes Visagie en Tini Vorster se broodjieklas het baat gevind by die skenkings. Die Rotary Anns wil graag hul dank betuig aan Route 42 vir hul kontant donasie van R5000 asook aan diegene wat deel gehad het aan die projek. Alle donasies en skenkings gaan vir liefdadigheid.

I Can Wait!
Proverbs 21:5 Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. (NLT) Human nature, by default, becomes frustrated with delayed gratification. Our desire for immediate satisfaction is evident in the popularity of instant, quick solutions to anything and everything that would usually take a bit of time. Unfortunately, nothing signif icantly great and lasting ever comes into being instantly. This renders impatience an attitude or emotion that can cost us dearly when it comes to accessing and eventually living the beautiful plans and dreams that the Lord has for us. The Bible teaches us that impatience yields very specific results in our lives. When we tolerate it, the following things will also manifest in our lives: Deficiency (Proverbs 21:5): Consistent faithfulness and obedience always ends in a manifestation of the God-plan. Only when we persist and see something through to the end, can we expect the end-result to be satisfactory. Even if we work very hard, but do not finish, we will end up in a place of lack and deficiency. Failure to wait and endure until the end leads to ending without accomplishing sufficiently. Discouragement and depression (Numbers 21:4-9): Just like the Israelites were required to travel through the desert for a season before they could enter the Promised Land, we sometimes have to go through certain trials and challenges in order to access the promises and dreams God has given us. If we allow impatience to set in during the time it takes for us to develop and become ready to enter the promise, we become discouraged and eventually depressed. These emotions speak of waning faith and have great potential to immobilize us completely. The people we allow to speak into our lives play a crucial role here. Exposure to constant negativity and lack of faith builds impatience in us. As children of God we are not exempt from facing challenges. In the midst of these however, we can still choose who we are and whom we surround ourselves with. Constant weariness (Proverbs 3:11): Impatience drains emotional energy and applies it in ways that produce death in our lives. Negative thoughts, anxiety, fear, inner turmoil, anger and resentment become part of our daily lives if we allow impatience to set in. Impatient people resist the discipline and correction of the Lord. At the same time they want and expect the fruit of growth to manifest without the process of change required for growth to take place. Disqualification from God’s dream for your life (Jeremiah 21:5): God’s dream for
each and every one of His children is to impact and positively influence the world around us. Within us we have the seeds of greatness and the capacity to accurately reflect Christ. Living a supernatural life demands of us to remain faithfully obedient in attitude, in word and in action. It does not come instantly or necessarily easily. Only once we become faithful and consistent in things that we regard as insignificant can we be trusted with greater things. In the process of time and diligence our capacity increases and we become able to ‘run with horses’ rather than constantly fighting with foot soldiers. In order to progress towards what the Lord has for us, we need to cultivate a patient spirit. The opposite of impatience is not passively waiting for miracles to happen. Contrary to the world’s def inition of patience, the Word defines patience as an attitude, a spirit of perseverance in the presence of God. It is consistently, over a period of time remaining steadfast in the revelation of God’s will that you have been granted. When we wait upon the Lord it implies actively seeking His face in the Word and in prayer. It speaks of steady obedience in terms of what you’ve been entrusted with until the Lord promotes you. Patient people can expect to see the following in their lives: A brave, courageous spirit (Psalm 27:14): Patience does not allow for doubt and fear. A confident heart (Micah 7:7): Our hearts can be confident only when we believe and fall back in complete trust on the fact that God hears us and that He is responsive to our calls. A positive, faith-filled heart (Psalm 130:5): An expectant heart (Psalm 40:1; Psalm 37:7): Patient people endure and persist because they are expecting breakthrough. 1 Corinthians 13:4 teaches us that love is patient and kind. We cannot accurately reflect Jesus without being patient. When we allow patience to develop in our hearts it brims over into our lives in a multitude of blessings. The Bible promises that patience gives us access to the following benefits: Strength (Isaiah 40:31): When we wait on the Lord He renews our strength. Increase (Luke 8:15): When we walk in patient obedience, holding on to the Word of God, we steadily conquer and increase in capacity. Salvation (2 Timothy 2:23): Patience with difficult people paves the way for their salvation. Are you sold out to Jesus and set on doing His will? Then quitting is not an option! It is not part of who we are in Christ! We can wait! We can be patient for as long as it takes to perfect the character of Christ in us and manifest the dream of God in our lives.

Earthquake Vicious attack High speed chase Strong tremors were felt in Nigel and other parts of Gauteng after a 5.3 magnitude earthquake has struck the country. The occurrence took place on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 after midday. Reports indicate that the earthquake has struck six kilo meters east of Orkney, situated in the North West province. Gauteng Weather tweeted that the tremor was felt as far north as Pretoria down to parts of Vereeniging and may have been felt in neighbouring provinces including the North West and the Free State. The tremor lasted a few seconds and people experienced very strong shaking for around 5 seconds. Michelle Grobbelaar, Council for Geosciences Seismology Unit manager, base in Pretoria said that tremors and aftershocks are expected in the coming days. They are monitoring it and will continue monitoring it for days, if not months. The earthquake was a big event for South Africa. Dr Chris Hartnady, technical director of earth science consultants Umvoto Africa in Cape Town said Tuesday’s quake was triggered by the mining activities around Orkney. “In this particular instance, it is probably a mining-triggered earthquake, caused by mining activities in the old mines in the areas of Klerksdorp. We will call them triggered earthquakes, related to the past and current mining activities. Such quakes occur because the excavation of the mine at such deep levels changes stress in the earth’s crust.” Hartnady said Tuesday’s earthquake was the biggest recorded resulting from mining activities. South Africa has been hit by earthquakes over the years, some measuring almost the same as that of Tuesday’s or even higher. The biggest quake recorded in South Africa’s history was the one that struck Ceres near Tulbagh in the Western Cape on September 29, 1969. It measured 6.3 on the Richter scale and its reverberations were felt across the country. The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality is taking heed of the warning issued by the Council for Geosciences that the country should anticipate aftershocks after the earthquake. Metro The Metro’s Emergency and Disaster Management department wishes to advise its communities that as and when the similar incidents of tremors are experienced, people should protect themselves in the following way: Evacuate buildings using evacuation protocols in their Emergency Plans; in the event that evacuation from the building is not possible, people should hide underneath solid structures such as tables; and contact the 24 hour Emergency Communication Centre to report damaged infrastructure and/or the injured or dead persons. The number to be used for emergencies is 011 458 0911 or 10177 from a Telkom line and/or 112 from a mobile phone. In the meantime the Metro’s disaster management off icials remain on in high alert to respond to any incidents that arise due to aftershocks and any other emergency or disaster incidents which may occur.
Two Pit-bull dogs brutally attacked a newspaper distributor and seriously injured three. On Wednesday July 29 about 13:45 a 30 year old local newspaper distributor was delivering newspapers along Coen Labuschagne Street in Heidelberg, Rensburg area. It is alleged that while he was placing a newspaper in the post box, two Pit-bull dogs came out of the enclosed yard through an unlocked wooden door. He attempted an escape, nevertheless they heaved him down and bit him relentlessly all over his body. Residents heard the victim’s cries as the dogs savagely sank their teeth into him. It is alleged that a neighbouring gardener came to his assistance and was also attacked. Contractors working nearby observed the occurrence from a distance. They agreed to aid the victim in his hour of need and ran to their bakkie. They drove to where the victim was lying and started hitting the dogs with spades. The dogs did not abscond and still tortured the victim endlessly. Meanwhile two motorists passing by witnessed the incident and attempted to frighten the dogs off of the victim. After a few attempts the pit-bulls fled back into the yard. One of the drivers saw this as an opportunity to quickly close the wooden door. In his effort the man stumbled on his way and fell to the ground. The two dogs rushed out and f iercely attacked the man. Mercifully the driver of the other vehicle came to his aid and overpowered one of the dogs. The dog was bound and put back inside the yard. Upon the arrival of Heidelberg Police the female dog was overpowered and locked up in the police vehicle. They took the female dog to the SPCA for safety. It is alleged that the dog was taken back to her owners the evening due to the fact that she is still breastfeeding her pups. The distributor and gardener were taken to Heidelberg AG Visser Hospital with serious injuries. The driver was taken to Life Suikerbosrand Clinic with bite-marks upon his arms and legs. The victims are still recuperating after their tribulation. Heidelberg Police opened a Keeping of Vicious Dogs case docket after the incident.
Heidelberg police recovers firearms after a high speed chase. On Tuesday August 5, Tsakane police sector members were patrolling Ext. 9 Tsakane location when they spotted a white Ford Bantam driving in an open field. When they approached the vehicle and signalled the driver to stop, he sped off. Cst. Chabeli Khabeletsane and Cst. Sibongile Kunene with the assistance of other sector vehicles gave chase. The speeding vehicle managed to drive out of Tsakane and took R23 Road towards Heidelberg. Along the R23 Road, he took the R42 Road / HF Verwoerd Street off-ramp. The driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. The driver was certified dead on the scene and his colleague sustained head injuries as well as bruising. Upon checking the vehicle, a pistol was found inside the vehicle and another pistol was found lying next to the vehicle. The 25 year old injured passenger was taken to Heidelberg Hospital for treatment. Police arrested him for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunitions. He will appear before Heidelberg Magistrate Court.

Uit haar pen vloei gedigte met van Nigel Tuiste vir Bejaardes, Mona van Heerden. Op Dinsdag onskatbare waardes tot bemoediging en genot van ander. Haar 5 Augustus is hierdie pragtige skeppings aan pasiënte oorhandig gedig “Sterwens dag” is ‘n paar jaar terug genomineer as by die tehuis. Statistics indicate that children are seldom taken in hijackings – in fact, it only happens in six out of 24 000 cases. Place one foot firmly in the car, on the floor behind the driver’s seat, as you lean across to retrieve the youngest child. The eldest child will probably cling to you and you can get both children out of the car at once. Remember to stay as calm as possible.

Skop stof Formidabele vrou laat kou manne harde bene met haar deelname tydens 4x4 uithou ritte. Die naam, Cindy van der Westhuizen is nie onbekend by Rekord lesers nie. Foto’s van haar rooi 4x4 Pajero pryk gereeld op die Rekord Sport blad. As ‘n leser baie fyn kyk, sal jy haar net-net gewaar agter die stuur. Vandag stel Rekord haar voor aan al die lesers wat haar prestasies so mooi volg. Cindy van Nigel het ongeveer ‘n jaar gelede eers haar droom begin uitleef as ‘n vernuftige 4x4 drywer. Sy het haar eerste speel 4x4 voertuig in 2012 gekoop en hom vernoem na “Bokkie se Trokkie”. Haar eerste deelname aan die ekstremistiese sport soort was in Augustus 2013 tydens die Gooi Mielies Vastrap Pretrit. Van daar verower sy by amper elke wedren en pretrit, eerste plek in die kategorieë waarin sy deelneem. Haar bestuur vernuf is so oortreflik dat sy deesdae aan die mansklas deelneem en hulle groen van jaloesie maak met haar oorwinnings. Cindy se bekwame navigator, Micheal Nel, is langs haar sy tydens kompetisies en ondersteun haar pligsgetrou. Hulle neem aan ongeveer 12 wed ritte per jaar deel. Onder andere pret ritte asook baie kompeterende 1 dag kompetisies waaronder Gooi Mielies Vastrap Pretrit en die Pitt Bull 4x4 Challenge val. Cindy vertel dat haar kinders haar liefde vir die sport deel en gereeld saam met haar pret ritte ry. Sy is ‘n buitelug mens en hou van die natuur. Kamp, stap en motorfiets ry is in haar bloed. Sy sal enige iets ekstremisties aanpak om die adrenalien te laat pomp in haar are. Haar groot droom is om eendag valskerm te spring en om ‘n 4x4 toer te ondergaan saam met mede 4x4 entoesiaste. Die jaar is egter nog nie tot ‘n einde nie en daar wag nog talle uitdagings vir haar. Cindy se volgende wedrit is tydens die naweek van 29 en 30 Augustus by die Bosveld Pretrit. Daar sal sy weer stof skop in menigte deelnemers se oë.

Die wedstryd het afgeskop om 08:00 en die koue het aanvanklik sy tol geëis. Teen rustyd was die span met 5-0 agter. Gedurende die tweede helfte het die span die agterstand ingehaal en het die wedstryd met 12-5 gewen. Dis egter verblydend om te sien dat die seuns soos die Engelsman sal sê “rise to the occasion”. Die afrigters spreek hul trots uit teenoor die merkwaardige karakter wat die span getoon het tydens die wedstryd.

Local Rivals lock horns during MAFA clash Mackenzieville - Alra Park Football Association hosted a local derby at Alra Park sport stadium on August 2, 2014. This sporting event was considered as one of MAFA’s biggest matches on their calendar this year. Members of the community came in numbers to support their favourite teams. Nigel FC engaged in an entertaining match against his rival Cambridge FC. Cambridge is currently occupying the number 1 spot with Nigel FC hot on their heels. Both teams came out very strong, but it was Cambridge who opened the score when Dalyn Lobs stroked the first goal during the first half of the match. The celebration was short lived when Jabu Motha of Nigel FC scored the equalizer with a world class volley. The final score of the match was 1-1. The game was electrifying and soccer fans were treated with a good game of soccer during the afternoon. Jabu Motha (orange) and Dalyn Lobs (blue) fighting for possession of the ball during the match.
