Ek was toe 46 en baie gesond.

This is critical and helps us “feel good”. The problem is that too many people do not take up the opportunity to be part of a community and rather recluse themselves from society and end up feeling down. When you feel down you struggle to see the many positives in life and this is often the beginning of a rapid spiral down into darkness. Put your mind to it and become involved in your community and see how your life will change. Further to this I know of many folk who have been retrenched and have struggled to look for work. Put your mind to it From the desk of Rev Ray Goddess

Rev Goddess, Heidelberg Methodist Church situation who have put their mind to getting out of trouble – and have got it right. To name a few TRUE stories: A lady walked form shop to shop ALL day for over two weeks asking for work. When offered a “commission only” job she took it – she said that she had been walking looking for work and she can walk looking for business. This lady is now Marketing Director of that same company. A man worked for a company and lost his job because the company went bankrupt. He went to the bank and asked if he could complete the outstanding work and “split” the income with the bank. They accepted and he started his own business. Someone was retrenched and decided to start his own business doing what he was doing when he was employed. Started very small but his business is growing each day. A man was struggling to find employment and decided to start a company installing and repairing sprinkler systems. Worked on a cash only basis and taught himself all about sprinklers as he got more and more work in. his business is doing well. A young lady was out of work and looked for an opportunity to write a program to help a company control their data in a better way. She taught herself to write the program, presented it to the company and is now building up a cliental using the same program. Things may be tough (throughout the world and NOT just in South Africa) but if you put your mind to it – you can do it! Remember that as a Christian Jesus is on your side.

KONTINUïTEIT IN KORT-TERMYNVERSEKERING Niemand verseker hul bates net vir ‘n maand of ‘n jaar nie. Verwysing: Kort-Termynversekering Robbie Stutterheim; Voldoeningspraktisyn

Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Jesus regarded baptism as such a serious matter that He did not start His ministry on earth before being baptized. Not only did He get baptized, He also did it publicly, insisting that the most radical, outspoken teacher of the time, John the Baptist, baptize Him. In Romans 6:1-14 the Bible teaches about the significance of baptism as a public declaration as to the fact that we died to our old nature (as Jesus died on the cross) and are, just like Jesus, resurrected to a new life in accordance with the nature of Christ. Dying to our old, sinful nature sets us free from the hold of sin in our lives. Through the grace of God, we are empowered to live free from the slavery of sin and enabled to be just like Jesus. This freedom is not earned and cannot be deserved. Grace, or supernatural empowerment from God to be and do what we in ourselves are not capable of being and doing, is a gift from God. We do not deserve it and we cannot behave in such a way as to validate God’s giving it to us. God gives us grace simply because He loves us. It is a free gift that we need to receive and appropriate in our lives through faith. Because of God’s grace every sin we ever committed or will ever commit is already forgiven and covered by the Blood of Jesus. The question then rises that since the grace (which is a good thing) we receive is proportional to the sin we commit, could

it actually be good for us to continue in sin? The fallacy of this mindset lies in the fact that sin goes hand- in-hand with slavery. We cannot continuously yield to sin without becoming enslaved by it. Jesus came so that we can be free. Continuing to live a life of sin after we have received the grace of God is like being freed from a jail cell but refusing to leave the cell. Unlike unsaved people, we are not under compulsion to sin. In fact, Romans 6:1011 teaches us that neither sin nor death has any dominion over God’s children because of what Jesus did on the cross. Because of the Blood of Jesus we are forgiven and empowered to live holy lives, just like Jesus did. This means that sin is no longer the natural outflow of our fallen nature, but rather a line of action we choose to embrace. Since we love God, we no longer want to sin and so we refrain from doing it in response to God’s grace in our lives. The very same grace that brings us to salvation, also gives us the supernatural ability to walk in righteousness. Sadly many of God’s children seem to be unaware of the fact that they are no longer subject to sin. Because of this they continue to act and think like slaves long after they’ve been set free. It is possible to have God’s grace at our disposal without actually walking in it. In order to get permanent victory over sin, we have to renew our minds to the truth of the Word (Romans 12:2), we have to refuse to conform to the World and yield to the grace that makes it possible for us to be transformed into the image of Christ. Are you saved and baptized? Then know this – you are free from sin, free to be just like Jesus, no longer dead but fully alive to Christ!

What you need to know!

At DELAN MEDICAL BEAUTY we use pure Hyaluronic Acid in all our products. We want to help the clients understanding the use and benefits of Hyaluronic Acid. Read this article and feel free to contact us if you need more detail. What is Hyaluronic Acid? Hyaluronic Acid (HA), occurring naturally throughout the human body. Its function in the body is, amongst other things, to bind water and to lubricate movable parts of the body, such as joints and muscles. Its consistency and tissuefriendliness allows it to be beneficial in skin-care products as an excellent moisturizer and it can be described as a “nature’s moisturizer”. Hyaluronic Acid covers the ends of the long bones where articulation (bending) occurs and provides a cushioning effect for the bones. Its second most important function in the joint is to carry nutrients to the cartilage and to also remove waste from the joint capsule. Hyaluronic Acid major functions include binding, support, protection, and insulation of the Tendons and Ligaments in the body. There are three structural elements. They are ground substance (hyaluronic acid), stretchy fibres (collagen and elastin) and a fundamental cell type. The dermal layer of the lips is composed primarily of connective tissue and its components hyaluronic acid and collagen that give the structure (shape) and plumpness to the lips. Hyaluronic acid is highly concentrated inside the eyeball. The HA gel acts as a shock absorber for the eye and also serves to transport nutrients into the eye. The skin is the largest organ in the body comprising about 15% of the body weight. Roughly 50% of the Hyaluronic Acid in our body is found in the skin. HA and Collagen are vital to maintaining the skin’s layers and structure. It is the collagen that

gives the skin its firmness but it is the HA that nourishes and hydrates the collagen. Consider the Hyaluronic Acid as the water that keeps the collagen moist and elastic. Young skin is smooth and highly elastic because it contains high concentrations of Hyaluronic Acid, which helps skin stay healthy. As we grow older, the body loses its ability to maintain this same concentration in the skin. Hyaluronic acid acts as a space filler by binding to water and thus keeping the skin wrinkle-free. Mail delivery Julius Malema shows you how disrupted A nine-month strike by the SA Post Office is taken its toll on many users of the service and is wreaking havoc on the postal system. Unfortunately many customers are unaware of the strike due to lack of information. There are no notices in the branches or staff informing you of the strike. The Post Office in Nigel is also affected by the strike. Throughout the past months, frustrated clients had found the Post Office closed on several occasions. In the meantime, postal services have been hampered, causing a backlog for customers waiting for critical items. This is also having a negative impact on businesses that are dependent on postal services. The strike action has involved intimidation and violence, the South African Post Off ice said, including the blockading of workplaces, assaults on employees and damage to property. The South African Post Office (SAPO) has warned customers of some delay in mail within the affected areas, but said it had business continuity plans in place to keep operations going and minimise the impact of the strike. The company has begun implementing dismissal proceedings in order to stop the industrial action affecting services in the East Rand and Tshwane areas around Johannesburg and Pretoria. Central to the strikes has been the implementation of Sapo’s flexible labour strategy, which was approved in 2013 to convert 7 945 casual workers into permanent employees. The strategy adopted a phased approach where casual workers were offered permanent but part-time positions as an alternative to being contracted to the company via labour brokers. Since the process started in 2013, more than 2 000 causal employees have been given permanent contracts, explained Mathonsi. “SAPO has recently concluded 600 more permanent contracts while 900 additional casual workers are also been issued with permanent contracts. Now these full-time employees are participating in various unprotected strikes since January 2014 for salary increases. “Our aim is to have all 4 928 casual workers contracted as permanent part-time employees by December 1, 2014. The aim of the flexible labour strategy has always been to advance the part-time employees to more permanent positions with full benefits. However, a staggered approach had to be adopted given the difficult financial position the company is in,” said SAPO Group Chief Operating Officer Mlu Mathonsi. Lungile Lose, SAPO’s Head of Corporate Services said that the Post Office had entered into too many labour agreements and supplementary contracts with labour unions that it could no longer meet. “This lies at the heart of the strike that has paralysed essential postal services and left customers seething,” he said. SAPO has estimated that mail in the Western Cape is delayed by roughly four working days, while mail in Gauteng is delayed by several weeks. Contingency plans are put into place to mitigate service disruptions and will keep customers updated on any new developments that may affect them.

More than thousand murdered Annually South Africans are killing more than a thousand children. Ten present of these children were raped before they died. Professor Glenda Grey, president of the South African Medical Research, recently brought this issue to parliament’s attention. The research states that “as a nation, we leave our children in the lurch because current policies and practices to protect children have little effect.” About 45% of children die from abuse and neglect. Girls are more neglected and abused than boys. Children are stabbed, shot, strangled and killed with blunt objects. Most of the killings are by people the children know, but they are not always related to the murderer. In addition, the second largest group of murderers are their mothers. The study shows that children who are sexually assaulted suffer from anxiety. Almost half of them still experienced post-traumatic stress after 6 months after the incident; due to the lack of psychological services available to them.

If you are unable to pay your tax debts, you can, in appropriate cases, ask SARS for a compromise agreement. The recent high profile case of taxpayer Julius Malema, which has been the subject of much media attention and public announcements by both Mr. Malema and SARS, is a perfect illustration. Mr. Malema had not submitted a tax return since 2010 and, when he did submit the tax returns, he was assessed by SARS for R16 million. When he failed to pay the assessed amounts, SARS began sequestration proceedings against him. A provisional sequestration order was granted. During the course of this process, it emerged that the taxpayer did not have the financial resources to repay the assessment. SARS then entered into a compromise arrangement with him. The details are confidential (in terms of Income Tax law) but what we do know from the public announcements made by both parties, is that he was granted a postponement on the SARS provisional sequestration order and given time to settle the negotiated amount owed. In 2012 a new Tax Administration Act came into being. It improved the process of resolving disputes between taxpayers and SARS. There is now a set down

step-by-step process whereby the taxpayer may object to an assessment and whereby it can be escalated up to the courts. The Act also allows SARS to settle disputes and to enter into a compromise or to write off a tax debt. This is at the request of the debtor (taxpayer) who cannot afford to settle the amount owed to SARS. The taxpayer needs to establish why the amount owed cannot be paid. The debtor also needs to give a comprehensive statement of assets and liabilities plus a

H2410

three year projection of taxpayer income. There must also be an undertaking to bring his/her tax affairs up to date. Finally, the taxpayer needs to drop any outstanding objections and accept that the assessment is correct. A “Senior Official” at SARS may enter into a compromise agreement, if this is in the best interests of SARS. In deciding this, many factors are taken into account such as the cost and likely recovery of a sequestration process (remember creditors can end up paying a contribution into insolvent estates), the situation and future prospects of the taxpayer and whether a compromise agreement will encourage “good management of the tax system and administrative eff iciency”. Should the taxpayer supply incorrect information or not make material disclosures or not fulfil the compromise agreement, then SARS may set the agreement aside. Again, Mr. Malema’s case is used to illustrate. SARS has a High Court ruling of a provisional sequestration order against him. Should he not fulfil his obligations, SARS have conf irmed they will pursue the sequestration process. There is also an agreement that his 2011 and 2012 returns will be finalised – this could lead to further amounts owed to SARS.

Pet friendly accommodation From my personal experience when I want to go on holiday and take my dogs, it’s pretty near impossible to find somewhere I can go with them. ‘No pets allowed’ signs are everywhere it seems. With the holiday season only a matter of weeks away, it’s often a stressful time of year for many pet owners, who are facing the decision of what to do with their beloved family pet while away on holiday. Many households in Nigel are sharing their home with at least one cat or dog (or both); it’s also a very common holiday season dilemma, often tied to feelings of anxiety and guilt for their pets’ well-being and happiness.

Nigel SPCA prides in offering the very best care and comfort for your beloved pets. Whether your pet will be staying with them for a few days or even a few weeks while you are having your dream holiday in December, they will cater for your pet’s needs. Their aim is that their furry guests are to be happy, content and safe for 24 hours a day. You can have total peace of mind entrusting your beloved pets in their care. Top Chartered Two accountants from Nigel were nominated as one of the top 35 Chartered Accountants in South Africa, under the age of 35. Celeste Hendricks and Jana Duvenage entered a competition that was hosted by a leading accountancy journal, Accountancy SA. These two ladies were included in the top 35 finalists that were announced in July in the issue of the Accountancy SA. It is amazing how much they have accomplished in their careers so far and that is precisely the reason why they were handpicked. Celeste and Jana are co-directors of DonnaHD Chartered Accountants INC. The business entity started practicing in September 2011 and is situated in Nigel as well as Alberton. They chose to enter in the competition to develop more exposure. Already the doors to success have opened up for them. They have been chosen as the “Face” of SAICA’s advertising campaign to advertise the CA brand. Any Charted Accountant (CA’s) in South Africa that is under the age of 35 as at December 31, 2014 was allowed to enter in this competition. The purpose for hosting this competition was to identify and recognize the top 35 CA’s in the country. For the judges it was certainly no easy task to decide who the top 35 under-35 finalist would be. At the end of the day the aspects that carried the most weight were leadership, career achievements and CSI initiatives. All finalists flaunt inspiring career avenues and it is interesting to see how they have all attained their success statuses. The finalists will now be going through a personal judging process by a panel of business leaders. They will be invited to a cocktail evening in Johannesburg at the Hyatt Hotel in Rosebank on November 4. During this prestigious occasion the overall winner will be announced. The winner will make their grand appearance on the front cover of the November issue of Accountancy SA.

Matriekafskeid 2014 5-Step gear-up The matric class of 2014 is entering one of the hardest, most challenging and arguably most important periods of their lives; the build-up to their final examinations. “In these last few weeks, it is important that learners have a solid strategy to assist them in preparing for the biggest test of their school careers, which will allow them to perform to the very best of their ability,” says Dr Felicity Coughlan. Coughlan, Director of the Independent Institute of Education, SA’s largest and most accredited private higher education institution, says having a plan allows learners to focus on the content of their work, rather than the mechanics of mastering the work. Coughlan says that everyone who is preparing to write their final exams this year will do well to follow a simple fivestep plan, which will set them on their path to their best performance. Step 1: Organise: Yourself, your time and your work. Having a neat working environment and a clear plan for what you need to do and study every day, as well as having the relevant materials sorted and on hand, will go a long way to reduce anxiety and optimise your learning. Step 2: Prepare: Look at all your subjects and at all the materials you need to study. Make sure that you have not forgotten anything. Once you know what you have

to work with and what you need to get through, you can better prioritise your planning. Step 3: Plan: Draw up a study roster which allows time for a second round of revision. Your planning should include writing past papers and example questions in addition to reading. When studying, use visualisation methods such as colour and mind maps which allow you to use more of your brain. Also practise by answering questions or telling friends and relatives about your work. It is not until you’ve tried to explain what you know that you can assess if you know enough! Step 4: Look after your health and wellbeing: Refresh by making sure you are eating, sleeping and exercising enough, but do not use these activities as a reason to procrastinate. Step 5: Focus: You should be devoting all your energy and attention to one of the most important examinations you will ever write. There will be plenty of time for parties and chilling once you’re done. Coughlan warns learners to be ready to push until the end, and not start relaxing until the very last paper is written. “Every paper – even the ‘easier’ ones – counts, and you have to give your best right until the end. After you’ve put in your best effort, you will really deserve your new freedom and enjoy it more,” Coughlan says.

Uniform day A token of appreciation was shown to the selfless officers who put their lives on the line every day. Highway Ministry hosted a Uniform day on Wednesday October 1 at the Society for the Aged in Heidelberg. Men and women representing the local police, fire and traffic department as well as emergency services attended this event. Jan de Bruin (Highway Ministry) explains that this is the ideal opportunity to express gratitude to the officials in uniform. The morning’s proceedings started with a “Praise and Worship” service led by Chief Fire Officer Herman Lombard while the opening and prayer was prepared by Pastor Jeremiah Zulu. The table settings and decorations continued the silver theme throughout the whole event, which represents salvation, healing and restoration.

The central speaker of the day was clinical Psychologist Dr. Johan Engelbrecht. He emphasized the importance of trauma counseling after a traumatic ordeal. If a trauma incident is not treated it can lead to Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Stress can affect your work performance and personal life. Dr. Engelbrecht pointed out that the only way to deal with trauma is to: talk about the incident, get emotional support, and if required, boost your selfimage and believe in a higher entity as yourself - God. A wreath-laying was held during the course of the morning for all the uniform officials that lost their lives while on duty. Guests were spoiled with a feast fit for a king and went home with a carry bag containing a prayer book to boost their spiritual life.

Fanie Olivier and Erenst Strassburg remembered officers who lost their lives while on duty during the wreath- laying.

14 OCTOBER 2014

Thrilling derby

Cambridge FC (white and blue) together with their rival Nigel FC (black and white).

Cambridge FC hosted a derby on Sunday October 5, 2014. They played a match against their rival Nigel FC at a jam packed Alrapark stadium. With bragging rights at stake it was clear that both teams came out as winners. It was a hot Sunday afternoon with fans expecting a mouth-watering game and the teams did not disappoint the crowds. Cambridge open the score board at halftime with a cone kick headed in by Bena. This sent the fans into rapture. They managed to hold the advantage in the 1st half. During the second half Nigel FC came out guns blazing and scored an equalizing headed goal by Eton Lampard. Fans were treated to a good game of football. The match ended 1 all.
