Appél teen moord Aangenome seun teken appél aan teen swaar vonnis oplegging na die moord op sy ouers. Volgens hofstukke in die appèlhof in Bloemfontein aangevoer deur Schalk du Plooy (20) is die 12 jaar tronkstraf wat hy moet uitdien “skokkend swaar”. Du Plooy appelleer teen die vonnis wat regter Zeenat Carelse in die rondgaande hof in Delmas in 2012 aan hom opgelê het. Volgens Du Plooy is sy vonnis onvanpas, omdat sy agtergrond en ander versagtende omstandighede nie in ag geneem is nie. Du Plooy het sy aanneemouers, Schalk sr. (52) en Theresa (51), in 2010 by hul huis in Dunnottar elk 24 keer met ’n mes gesteek. Schalk en Morné Labuschagne (25), sy medebeskuldigde het die lyke langs ’n gholfbaan versteek, sodat dit na ’n motorkaping moes lyk. Labuschagne het as begunstigde van die moorde effektief ses jaar tronkstraf ontvang. In hofstukke is Du Plooy se jeug
voorgehou as ’n belangrike faktor wat in ag geneem moes word, voordat hy gevonnis is. Hy is ’n eerste oortreder met geen geneigdheid tot geweld tot voor die voorval nie. Du Plooy was ’n paar dae oud toe die egpaar hom aangeneem het. Op tienjarige ouderdom is hy in kennis gestel dat hy ‘n aangenome kind is. Hy het vanaf 12 jarige ouderom alkohol en dwelms misbruik. Die dag van die moorde het sy ouers hom in sy kamer gekonfronteer oor sy dwelmmisbruik. “Sy ma het vir hom geskree hy moet die huis verlaat en dat sy spyt is sy het hom aangeneem. Sy pa het ingestem dat dit beter sal wees as hy die huis verlaat. Dis toe dat hy gewelddadig reageer. “Die graad van sy blaamwaardigheid nadat hy uitgelok, beledig en uitgedaag is, is minder as dié van ’n beskuldigde wat nie aan enige provokasie onderworpe is nie,” word namens Du Plooy aangevoer. Sy aansoek word in November aangehoor.

Dit het gepaard gegaan met ‘n demonstrasie van talle kreatiewe idees in samewerking met Heritage Verf verskaffers. Tydens die oggend het dames geleer om uit waardelose items skeppende artikels te maak. Hierdie tegniek is ook vir die kinders tydens die Oktober skoolvakansie aangebied. Bananaboo bied ook modeontwerp kursusse aan, onderleiding van Annelise Dias wat haar graad in modeontwerp behaal het aan die Tswane Universiteit van Tegnologie. Hierdie kursus is veral gewild onder meisies wat modeontwerp as ‘n loopbaan wil volg. Hulle loop ‘n kort kursus om vir hulself te besluit of dit wel die rigting is waarna hul streef. ‘n Modeparade word beplan vir 6 Desember. Dit gaan ‘n elegante kaas en wyn aand wees met ‘n Kersfees tema. Die aand gaan as platvorm dien om die studente se pronkstukke wat hulself ontwerp het ten toon te stel.
I was privileged Rev Goddess, and blessed to be Heidelberg able to attend the Methodist Willow Creek GloChurch bal Leader Summit this month and found the input by the founder of the Willow Creek Community Church (Bill Hybels) to be one of the best inputs From the desk of Rev Ray Goddess that I have ever heard from him (I have attended well over 15 GLS events). Something that struck me in his input and something that I want to expand on is this: FACT: we were all born. FACT: we are all going to die. FACT: if we have a tombstone or plaque erected on our grave or a wall of remembrance the two dates will appear and will be separated by a hyphen. Now here is the question that Bill Hybels posed. What does your dash represent? In other words what legacy are you leaving behind? In this world today I believe that we are too focused on material items and with this we become ruthless and sometimes even bombastic when we strive to leave a legacy that the world would remember us for. All too often we focus on the worldly legacy hoping that we will be remembered for what we have done but at the same time we leave a path of destruction and hurt. People lay by the wayside, families struggle and the hurt sometimes results in a person not being able to handle the life that they live. Is this the legacy that you are leaving behind? Is this your hyphen or dash? As a Christian who does not get everything right, as a Christian who gets frustrated when I falter and disappoint God I found this question from Bill Hybels to be extremely challenging. As a Christian what is my dash? Let us face facts the people who are remembered are people who have made a positive difference to the lives of other people. Everybody knows who Mother Theresa is but not many know who William F. Lamb is. We often see William Lamb’s legacy that he left behind but he as person has not impacted our lives to the point that we will remember who he is. William Lamb was the designer of the Empire State Building. His physical legacy is remembered but the person is forgotten. On the other hand Mother Theresa touched many lives with her servant attitude and lifestyle. She never bragged about what she did but rather just continued to do what God had called her to do and in that way she made a difference to thousands of lives AND her dash, her legacy as Mother Theresa will live forever. We know what her legacy is. We know what her dash is. The question is “what is YOUR dash”? Is your dash about the world and material things or is your dash all about the people and God’s calling on our lives. A big challenge to me and I hope a big challenge to all of us.

Save our jobs Local factories employees and NUMSA participated in a march against Transnet for tenders given to foreign-owned companies. Employees of CTLE held a protest march, which was led by NUMSA’s President Andrew Chirwa and Deputy General Secretary Karl Cloete. The march is against what they consider a “fishy” R50-billion Transnet tender, awarded wrongfully by Transnet to the Chinese, France and US firms; and will benefit a host of powerful and well-connected politicians and individuals. CTLE workers and members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South-Africa made an appeal to the union to take urgent steps that will ensure that the R50 billion Transnet tender is reviewed. Communities around the areas of Kathlehong, Duduza and KwaThema under the banner of a united front joined the march. Transnet announced in March 2014 that a R50 billion tender that includes the manufacturing of 1 064 diesel and electric locomotives was awarded to four foreign-owned companies with BEE partners. These companies have no rail experience or capacity to manufacture rolling stock equipment. Transnet is a government entity that purports to champion job creation and industrialization. For the last 3 years it overlooked and undermined companies who have a vast experience in rolling stock manufacturing. CTLE has a vast experience in building

CTLE have operational capability to do general overhaul of passenger coaches and freight wagons. The employees find it unacceptable that they are told that they lack skill, capacity and experience. The continuous ignoring of local capability, places business and jobs at risk in the whole sector. These threats do not only affect the companies, but also has an impact on suppliers and their families. The lack of contracts from Transnet is tantamount to disinvest from our area with disastrous consequences for the community. CTLE, when operating in its maximum capacity can employ a workforce of up to 3 000 employees. It is the biggest employer in the area. Due to lack of contracts from Transnet the workforce has dwindled down to 700. The company is in a state which can lead to a total shut down of operations. CTLE is facing a potential retrenchment of 250 employees which will severely affect the communities around CTLE. The shutdown of this plant may lead to huge economic and social implications. Increase in dog poisoning

Dog poisoning is becoming a familiar tragic scene in Nigel and animals are losing their lives and loved ones a pet. The Nigel SPCA reports that during the last couple of weeks there has been an increase in the poisoning of dogs in the Visagiepark area. It is assumed that the poisoning of dogs leads to further crimes such as burglary, robbery, rape etc. All poisons are presented to dogs with food. Common presentations include polonies, meat, fish, maize meal, sausages or bread. The food will be rolled in or stuffed with the poison Two-step. A warning to residents is that dogs which sleep inside the house are also victims. The poisoners know that the dogs will be let JJC out early in the morning and therefore they plant the poison inside Kruger & the meat during the night. Lewenslange vonnis Police official arrested Stiefpa kry 4 lewenslange vonnisse na hy skuldig bevind is van verkragting. ‘n 53-jarige man van Heidelberg is Dinsdag 21 Oktober tot vier keer lewenslange tronkstraf gevonnis, nadat hy sy stiefdogter herhaaldelik verkrag, en uiteindelik swanger gemaak het. “Die man is in die Heidelberg-landdroshof skuldig bevind op vier aanklagte van verkragting en 1 aanklag van aanranding met die doel om ernstig te beseer,” het kapt. Thivhulawi Tshilate, ‘n polisewoordvoerder van Gauteng gesê. Die man het sy stiefdogter die eerste keer in 2007 verkrag toe sy 10 jaar oud was en hul in Nigel woonagtig was. In 2010 verhuis hul na ‘n kleinhoewe te Spaarwater, waar hy haar weer op 13 jarige ouderdom verkrag het. Hy het haar daarna weer in 2011 en 2012 verkrag, waarna sy swanger geword het toe sy 15 jaar oud was.” het Tshilate gesê. Die stiefpa het haar in September 2013 baie erg aangerand. Sy het die voorval by die polisie aangemeld en die beamptes ook van die verkragtings vertel. Die Vereeniging-polisie se geweld, kinderbeskerming en seksuele misdrywe eenheid het die saak ondersoek en die man inhegtenis geneem.
Moord arrestasie ‘n Taxi eienaar is uiteindelik inhegtenis geneem na die ontvoering en moord op sy meisie. Heidelberg SAPD het ‘n 35 jarige taxi eienaar gearresteer op 16 Oktober 2014 na ‘n lang en deeglike ondersoek. Daar word beweer dat die verdagte sy 17 jarige meisie op 26 Januarie 2013 met geweld by haar huis weggeneem het. Na bewering het die verdagte die oorledene se moeder geskakel en haar verwittig om haar dooie dogter te gaan optel op die R103 (Ou Alberton pad). Die oorledene is gevind met ‘n koeëlwond in die kop en is op die toneel dood verklaar. Volgens berugte het die verdagte na die voorval na KwaZuluNatal gevlug. Die verdagte is Donderdag, 16 Oktober inhegtenis geneem by Tsakane lokasie, as gevolg van die knap optrede van konstabel Happy Kubheke, wat ‘n wenk vanaf die publiek opgevolg het. Hy sal binnekort in die Landroshof in Heidelberg verskyn.
Heidelberg Police arrested a 51 year old Police Captain and his 44 year old Lesotho National employee after they were found stealing Mielie bales at Rooikraal Landgoed Farm– Heidelberg North on September 26, 2014 at about 20:30. The incident occurred on September 26 at Rooikraal Landgoed Farm, Heidelberg. It is alleged that the Police Captain’s white Kia bakkie pulling a trailer was spotted on the farm were there were mielie bales. He was cornered by the owner of the farm and his colleagues. It is further alleged that his bakkie and the trailer were already loaded with 4 mielie bales with an estimated value of R4 000-00. Police were immediately informed and quick response by Cst William Tshabangu and Cst Sebulelo Seboko lead to the arrest of the Police Captain stationed at Benoni SAPS, as well as the Lesotho National who
look after the Captain’s 10 cattle. The white Kia and the trailer together with the 4 mielie bales were seized by the police.

Traffic fines Grasdakke brand Metro Bus drivers incurred a whopping 201 traffic fines during the 3 month period of June-August 2014. The f igure doesn’t even include the occasions where the drivers should receive fines, but aren’t seen by Metro Police. This represents about 67 fines per month, or more than two f ines a day. Motorists in Johannesburg can attest to scores of incidents where they witnessed a Metrobus driving dangerously, potentially even threatening to drive them off the road. Driving a bus recklessly and over the speed limit shows complete disregard for
the lives of the passengers and other motorists on the road. Automatic Vehicle Location is a technology solution used extensively by private companies to ensure that their busses and trucks obey the law. Remote sensors can immediately report incidents such as driving over the speed limit, and a control centre could immediately instruct the driver to slow down. All violations would be reported, and driving would dramatically improve, to the relief of passengers and motorists. The DA will push for the department to implement this solution.
Gedurende Dinsdag 21 Oktober is twee grasdakke in Bridlington straat nr. 8 en 10 in Nigel verwoes. Ekurhuleni Nooddienste was vinnig op die toneel en het daarin geslaag om die brand te blus. Volgens ‘n woordvoerder is die oorsaak van die brand onbekend. Hulle kon wel vasstel dat die brand begin het by nr. 10 en dat die vlamme versprei het na die aangrensende erf se grasdak. Geen beserings is aangemeld gedurende die voorval nie en die grasdakke was gebruik as braai en ontspannings areas. Die eienaars van nr. 8 Mnr en Mev Rosseau, was ten tye van die voorval nie by die huis nie. Hul kinders en die se vriende het vanaf die huis die vlamme op die grasdak gewaar en buite toe gestorm. Hulle was braaf genoeg om die vuur te blus met ‘n tuinslang en potte vol water. Volgens die Rosseau’s is die enigste skade die afgebrande grasdak. Geen kommentaar is deur nommer 10 gelewer nie.

Laurika Rauch saam met Anna-Marie Axer en Ronel Lombaard.
VLU ondervind Laurika Rauch op haar beste tydens ‘n optrede in Pretoria. Op 23 Augustus het lede van die Nigel VLU tak die optrede van hul kunstenaar van die jaar, Laurika Rauch, by Magalieskruin tak in Pretoria bygewoon. Tydens die aangeleentheid was die dames veras met haar wonderlike stem en rustige nostalgie. Self ‘n traan of twee is gepik met herinneringe van lank gelede oor die talle staaltjies wat sy vertel het. Die Laurika sage het nie daar tot ‘n end gekom nie. Tydens hul maandelikse vergadering gehou op 11 September by La Fayett, het Martha van der Walt die dames meer oor Laurika vertel. Sy het ‘n deeglike studie gemaak van Laurika se loopbaan en al die albums wat sy al uitgereik het. Laurika het bekendheid verwerf met haar liedjie van Koos du Plessis se “Kinders van die wind”. Daarna het sy saam met Anton Goosen deur die land getoer en Afrikaanse liedjies gesing. In 1980 vra Taubie Kuschlik haar om Jacques Brel te sing in die opvoering “Encore Brel” asook “The Best of Brel”. Die res is geskiedenis. Vandag is sy ‘n baie geliefde sangeres. Bewusmaking veldtog VLU Heidelberg se maand vergadering het plaasgevind op Donderdag 16 Oktober by die AGS Kairos gemeente te Heidelberg. Oktober is Borskanker-bewustheidsmaand en pienk linte is die wêreldwye simbool van borskankerbewustheid. Antoinette Price van Life Suikerbosrand kliniek het die dames kom toespreek oor borskanker. Vroeë diagnose is veral belangrik vir vroue van 50 jaar en ouer, want namate vroue ouer word, neem die risiko om borskanker op te doen, toe. In die verlede sou ‘n vrou wat met borskanker gediagnoseer is ingrypende chirurgie moes ondergaan om die bors te verwyder. Maar danksy die verbeterde tegnieke is talle vroue met borskanker in ‘n vroeë stadium, kandidate vir behandeling waarin die bors behou kan word. Vroeë opsporing is noodsaaklik vir die suksesvolle behandeling. As ‘n vrou in

Payment methods Account payment kiosks on the cards for Ekurhuleni malls. Ekurhuleni residents will soon be able to walk into major malls around the City and pay for their municipal services while doing their shopping, going to the movies or just having coffee with a friend. They want to inculcate in the culture of shopping experience to include the payment of municipal services by introducing a more convenient and modern way to do so. We want to turn our malls into one stop shops – where one can do groceries and even pay for services. Member of Mayoral Committee for Finance, Cllr Moses Makwakwa, said the platform brings to an end an era of erroneous cut-offs. MMC Makwakwa said ratepayers who bank with either Standard Bank or Nedbank are already able to benef it from this enhanced service by simply adding Ekurhuleni as a bill within MyBills in Standard Bank Internet banking and Nedbank Internet or mobile banking.

Zoo loses Registration accreditation extended
The Johannesburg Zoo has had its membership and accreditation in PanAfrican Association of Zoos and Aquarie revoked. The DA’s spokesperson on Johannesburg Zoo, Councillor Nonhlanhla Sifumba, expressed her deep sadness at hearing the above statement. The decision was made as a result of the incident where 8 Sitatunga were euthanized at OR Tambo International Airport. The animals were donated from the Prague Zoo to the Johannesburg Zoo. PAAZA took the action after it found that the Zoo had violated their Code of Ethics. More troubling, the Zoo was found guilty of wilful misrepresentation as they abused their standing in PAAZA and WAZA to assist a commercial facility in securing the deal and thereby providing the Zoo with 2 Sitatunga at a minimal cost. Johannesburg Zoo did not comply with local requirements for the importation of animals from Europe. It is supposed to ensure that all permits and veterinary tests are in order; and it is their responsibility to ensure that the paperwork is available when animals arrive into the country. This was not done and this is why the animals had to be euthanized. The DA is appalled at the gross negligence on the part of Johannesburg Zoo and calls for an investigation to find the persons responsible for this. This extraordinary incompetence needs to be met with disciplinary proceedings. It appears that several senior people at the Zoo also need urgent training.
Due to the overwhelming request from the religious community, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has extended the deadline for submission of applications to be placed on the Municipality’s database of churches. The October 10 due date was extended to November 10 2014, after the Metro received an overwhelming response from churches that were interested in registering. The registration will serve as part of an accreditation process to determine the eligibility of churches to access land and municipal facilities. Churches that are interested are encouraged to collect and submit accreditation forms from their nearest Customer Care Centre. Accreditation will provide the EMM with an indication whether a particular religious formation meets the basic criteria for bidding for the use of council land or facilities, by demonstrating that they are a credible institution. One of the benefits of accreditation is being eligible to be prioritised for use of municipal facilities as a place of worship. Religious leaders can obtain and also submit application forms for accreditation at their nearest Customer Care Area (CCA) offices. The forms will be collected from the CCA by the Health and Social Development Department and feedback will be given to the applicants after the database has been formed.
Celebrating 55 years Local municipality celebrated the existence of Ratanda. Lesedi Local Municipality hosted an event to celebrate the 55 years of Ratanda’s existence on October 18 at Ratanda MultiPurpose Hall. The existence of Ratanda was as a result of moving people from the old location (Ou Skom) through the racial segregation Act of 1959. The event was aimed to ensuring that the history of Ratanda in particular is transferred and embraced forever by all generations to come. The celebration was further envisaged to be a cultural event with different local Arts group performances that promoted their local heritage.

Heerlik was die verrassing egter op Woensdag 24 September, nou al bekend as nasionale braaidag, toe die geur en aroma van braaivleis by die Tuiste vir Bejaardes, Nigel, opgestyg het. Die familie van Boet en Babsie Pieterse, inwoners in die verswakte afdeling, het van Secunda en omliggende gebiede gekom. Hulle het 25 kg wors, 10 dosyn broodjies
en genoeg houtskool saam gebring om vir 120 mense te braai. Personeel en inwoners is getrakteer om saam te deel in die tradisie van nasionale braaidag. Die Bestuur van die Tuiste vir Bejaardes, Nigel, wil Sandra Schoeman, Magda Blaauw, Joey Knoetze en hulle gesinne hartlik bedank vir hierdie wonderlike gebaar om dié dag op te vrolik met ‘n daad van selfopoffering. Die behandeling dreineer al die gifstowwe uit Mariaan se liggaam en keer dat dit nie haar brein affekteer nie. Mariaan se begeerte het waar geword nadat ‘n familielid aangebied het om die onkostes te dra vir ‘n vakansie wegbreek na die Suidkus. Sy en haar vader Jeff gaan besoek aflê in Port Shepstone tussen 15 en 28 Desember. Jeff het by die Addington Hospitaal in Durban gereël dat Mariaan haar dialise behandeling daar kan ontvang tydens die tydperk. Dit sal die eerste vakansie vir die gesin wees sedert 1991 en hulle sien baie uit daarna.

Prize giving SAPS Heidelberg hosted an Elderly Care Fund Prize Giving Ceremony. On Thursday October 16, Major General MW Ngobeni and other delegated Generals attended the event that was held in Heidelberg at the Station Commander’s Boardroom. The ECF annually draws a name from its list of contributors, which makes the person a winner in that province. In addition, four other names were drawn and the donors each received cash as a token of appreciation. Major General Ngobeni from the ECF handed over a cheque to the Heidelberg cluster winners, Captain Muzi Nkabinde and Jean Pretorius. Major General Ngobeni explained that the ECF is a non-profit organisation which aims to reach out to serving members to prepare them for retirement.
Commissioner Ngobeni told the audience at Heidelberg Police Station: “We at the ECF are depending on the support that we receive from serving and retired police officials. Without your monthly financial contributions and your willingness to become involved with the ECF as volunteers, the ECF will not be able to render the services we do.” “Thank you that you are partnering with us to create better circumstances for retired police officials. We value the fact that you believe in what we do.” He said that the ECF also gets money from golf days, Valentine’s Day and other events. Commissioner Ngobeni further explained that when a SAPS member dies, his monthly pension would be transferred to the wife.

Grade 11 learners Lucky Manana and Lungile Kubheka from Nigel High are ecstatic about the announcement made on Monday October 20. Each of them won a R5 000 bursary for 2014. The competition was hosted by Nigel Rotary and competitors had to write a motivation letter as to why they need the bursary.

‘n Passie vir dans Ma en dogter lewer treffende dans vertoning in Springs Teater. Deonie en Bianca Erasmus het tydens Rene Art en Dance se jaarlikse vertoning gedurende die naweek van 18 Oktober die gehoor aan die gons gehad. Die tema was Goddelik geïnspireerd. Hulle wou graag die liefde van God oordra deur hulle dans aan die gehoor. Hulle het ‘n treffende boodskap ‘uitgebeeld met ‘n “slow style” gekombi-
neer met kontemporêre bewegings. As klankbaan het hulle die lied van “Casting Crowns” gebruik getiteld “ From East to West”. Die gehoor was geboei tydens die vertoning en het na hul asems gesnak. Die rede vir hulle keuse was as hulle selfs net 1 persoon kon bereik tydens die vertoning, is dit die moeite werd gewees. Die Duo is selfs om tydens die ‘Ma en Dogter’ oggend by Tini Vorster op te tree.
