No plans to bury a family member with a stranger The City of Ekurhuleni welcomes the ongoing debate relating to its alternative burial methods stemming from traditional media and trending on social media this week. The reality is, the City of Ekurhuleni, as well other cities in the country, is running out of space to develop new cemeteries,
and therefore the conversation about alternative burial methods should rightfully begin today. Currently Ekurhuleni has only 30 years in burial capacity. “We are aware that this is a sensitive issue in terms of cultural and religious beliefs and indeed it is an emotional matter” Ekurhuleni Spokesperson Themba Gadebe said. The City of Ekurhuleni has implemented alternative burial methods aimed at sustainable and effective use of burial space in addition to the traditional in ground internment. The methods are:

The ashes are made available within 24-48 hours after cremation. • Multi Use: This is a method of double or triple internments where families can opt to bury up to three family members in one grave. Gadebe firmly refutes the much sensationalized claim that the City of Ekurhuleni seeks to bury a person’s family member with strangers in one grave. This is not the true reflection of the city’s alternative burial strategy.

As many of you know we are away on long leave but by the time this gets published we will be back in RSA. Our trip has been fantastic and one of the very interesting parts has been the differences of life, lifestyle and people in the various countries we have visited (Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia). Life changes completely as one goes across each border and you then have a choice to accept the way of life in the country you are visiting our try and buck the system and people. By going with the flow the trip is enjoyable with very few glitches. But something that I have learned on this trip is getting to know the people you meet. We have spent a long time in Zambia with our children and it has been a blessing. With Christmas and New Year we have met upward of 35 new folk and because of the lifestyle and gatherings we have spent a fair amount of time with them and so have got to know them quite well. Here is what I have noted – the character of the people you meet changes from the first time you meet them to the last time you see them. While this is understandable I feel that we have a lot to learn from this as well. How many of us have “different faces” in our everyday life? When we first met some folk the way they acted and the way they spoke and handled different aspects of things that happened was totally different to the way they were once you got to know them a bit better. It seems that we as people “put on a face” that is not really who we are and then “slip back” to our true self with time and familiarity. Surely it would be a better practice to be the people who we actually are – all the time. In this way we can be more relaxed (as we do not have to live a lie) and folk will know who they are dealing with from day one. We went to a staff Christmas dinner and met a few folk for the first time. When we met them again at a “social gathering” they were different – and quite honestly I prefer the “social gathering” person even if there are some

As we look at ourselves I question if we are always the same people – are we the same people in the Sunday church service as we are on Monday at work? Are we the same at work as we are at home? I believe that we need to be the “correct” person who we know is who we are and should be all the time. Let me explain. I guess that the person we “portray” at church is in our minds the “correct” person – so change your life and become this correct person all the time and in this way we will become better people and life will be more of a blessing to us and to the folk around us. Second question: How many of us judge people and their “ways” too quickly? One of the folk we met was never present – always “somewhere” by himself. Judge him to be a “recluse” or someone with “a problem”. Then we meet him in a small group and he is kind, playing with the kids and chatting to the folk. A recluse – no… he just feels overwhelmed with too many people. So here is a challenge for 2015 – be your true self all the time and allow God to change you to be the “better person” who you would like to be and stop judging – give the person a chance. Have a blessed Christ filled 2015.

Meals for Christmas Duduzekani Tshidisehang Community Projects a NPO based in Duduza celebrated their Christmas day at Bluegum-view section in Duduza with a family of 7 by having a Christmas meal with them. The organization provided the family with clothing and food hampers. The noble initiative was based on one of the organization’s objectives, the alleviating of poverty. The event was made possible by the donations from Thembanani Mens Club,
JMBros Funeral Services, Okes Attorneys of Nigel, Black Petal, Tshwarisang Tirisano Basadi catering company & other contributions from various individuals in the community. Mr Siphiwe Mnguni, the Deputy Chairperson of the organization was at a loss of words. He extended his gratitude and appreciation to the donors who ensure the success of this event. He extended his gratitude to those who attended the occasion on the day and wished them the best for 2015.

Renovations still underway at Murray Park The City of Ekurhuleni wishes to inform residents that Murray Park is closed as the facility is still being renovated. The three-year makeover plan came after the park was vandalised in 2012, after which council developed a master plan for the rehabilitation of the recreational facility. According to Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe, phase one of the master plan was completed last year. “Phase one involved fixing the fence and closing off the whole park with Clear Vu fencing. The second phase started July
2014, and included landscaping, fixing of ablution blocks, installation of playground equipment, restoration of power and renovation of buildings. This phase will be completed this year March,” Gadebe explains. The final phase will include planting of gardens, f ixing of roads, the pool and waterslides. The park will only be opened once all renovation work has been completed. Residents are advised to visit surrounding lakes, dams and parks in the meantime. The municipality sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Luke 17:17 So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? 18Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.” (NKJV) In Luke 17:11-19 we f ind Jesus miraculously healing ten lepers from the dreaded disease. In order to obtain their healing, they had to go and show themselves to the priests. On the way to do this, they were healed. Strangely, only one of the ten, a Samaritan, returned to thank Jesus for his healing. Jesus found this surprising. Gratitude, as seen in our words and actions is important to God. The Samaritan’s gratitude was evident in the fact that he “with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks” (Luke 17:15). Jesus responded to the Samaritan’s gratitude by saying that he was fit to go and live his life – made well through faith. This man made a conscious decision to publicly and purposefully declare his thanksgiving. He was overwhelmed with the goodness of God toward him to such a degree that he did not care what the people would think of him. As a direct outflow of his grateful heart, he returned to thank Jesus and so encountered Jesus on yet another level. Jesus connected his gratitude to a faith filled heart. Thankfulness will never exist in the absence of faith. God expects of us to be thankful. The Bible teaches many times over that ingratitude is a sin (Romans 1:21) and that a thankful attitude is a prominent part of the life of any person of faith (1 Timothy 2:1-3; Philippians 4:6). Gratitude is the manifest
evidence of not only our trust in the Lord, but also our acknowledgement of the fact that God is our source, to be considered in every area of our lives. Gratitude is tangible proof of faith. Hebrews 11:6 teaches us that it is impossible to please the Lord without faith. A prayer that is not born out of the sure conviction that God is who He says He is and that He will do what He promised to do, will have absolutely no effect. God responds to faith and faith is seen in gratitude and thanksgiving. King David provides us with a prime example of someone that lived a life of gratitude as publicly displayed through word and action. As the ark, representative of God’s presence, was brought back into Jerusalem, he removed everything that could possibly hinder him in giving exuberant praise to God (2 Samuel 6). Throughout the Psalms we find numerous incidents where David commands himself to respond with joy and gratitude to what the Lord has done (Psalm 100:1; Psalm 103:1-5). Gratitude and the public display thereof should not be regarded as a matter of gender, culture, personality or any other factors. It is an overruling awareness of God’s goodness, a heart condition that prompts us to act regardless of who we are or the circumstances we find ourselves in. “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). May you experience the amazing peace of God that sur passes all understanding as you contentedly, filled with joy and gratitude, reflect on the goodness of God towards you in the past year!

NOTICE OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION APPLICATION: PROPOSED TOPIGS SA MERINO PIGGERY PROJECT ON PORTION 0 (REMAINING EXTENT) OF THE FARM MERINO 641 IR, MPUMALANGA (EIA Ref Nr: 17/2/3/GS-281; SMS Ref Nr. TOP-VIL-14-04-09) The purpose of this notice is to provide information to Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) about potential decisions that may affect them and to afford I&APs an opportunity to influence those decisions in the Environmental Authorisation application process for the proposed Topigs SA Merino Piggery Project of Topigs SA (Pty) Ltd. BACKGROUND TO THE PROJECT Topigs SA (Pty) Ltd is proposing to establish a new piggery. The site is located on Portion 0 (remaining extent) of the farm Merino 641, IR, Mpumalanga, at the following GPS coordinates: 26°56’42.92"S 28°31’35.41"E. The land is currently used for agricultural activities. The proposed project will entail the following: · The development of a piggery-grower unit where weaner piglets are grown until they are ready for slaughter. These pigs are called baconers. · The construction of two (2) Weaner platforms. Each platform will have two (2) houses and each house will have four (4) rooms (therefore a total of 16 rooms). Each room houses 450 piglets. The total capacity within the weaner rooms is therefore 7 200 piglets. The dimensions of one platform is: 75m x 15m (1 125m2) x 2 platforms = 2 250m2. · The construction of seven (7) grower platforms. Each platform will have two (2) houses and each house will have two (2) rooms (therefore a total of 28 rooms). Each room houses 450 baconer/grower pigs. The total capacity within the grower rooms is therefore 12 600 baconers/ growers. The dimensions of one platform: 145m x 15m (2 175m2) x 7 platforms = 15 225m2. · The total footprint size of all the weaner and grower platforms is therefore 17 475m2 (1.7475ha). · The total development footprint, including the platforms and open spaces between and surrounding the platforms is: 285m x 175m = 49 875m2 (4.9875ha). · The construction of an office block that will include a store room and ablution facilities. The office block will have the following dimensions: 6m x 20m (120m2). LEGISLATIVE REQUIREMENTS Procedure applied to the application As the proposed activities entail the development of new infrastructure, a Basic Assessment (BA) will be required in compliance with the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No.107 of 1998) (NEMA) for the authorisation of listed activities contained in GNR 544 of 18 June 2010 and GNR 546 of 18 June 2010 published in terms of Sections 24(2) and 24D the NEMA. Application submitted to the competent Authority An application for Environmental Authorisation in terms of the NEMA, as amended, and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2010, was submitted for the proposed activities on the 5th of December 2014 to the Mpumalanga Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (MDEDET). The application was accepted by the MDEDET on the 10th of December 2014 and subsequently the reference number 17/2/3/GS-281 was assigned to the application. Listed activities applicable to the application The listed activities that have been applied for include Listed activities 4, 20, 23, 37, and 47 of GNR 544 and Listed activities 4, 12, 13 and 19 of GNR 546. Legislation associated with the application South African legislation requires that a Basic Assessment Report be compiled in accordance with the National Environmental Management Act (Act No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA), as amended. In order to do so, Topigs SA (Pty) Ltd has appointed Shangoni Management Services (Pty) Ltd (Shangoni), as the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP), in terms of Regulation 16 of GNR 543, to undertake and manage the processes of applying for the required environmental authorisations. Furthermore, Shangoni meets the requirements set out in Regulation 17 of GNR 543. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION People have a right to be informed about potential decisions that may affect them and to be afforded an opportunity to influence those decisions. Die Dart18 Wêreld seilkampioenskappe is vanaf 26 Desember tot 2 Januarie 2015 by Stilbaai Seiljagklub, Vaaldam gehou. 66 Dart18 seilbote het meegeding en die eerste drie plekke is deur RSA opgeraap. Daar was ook deelnemers van Zimbabwe, Duitsland, Engeland en Portugal. Vir Christo Kruger, Brandon Kruger, Carel Schoeman, Vihan Feldtmann en Danelle Jansen van Vuuren, wat almal inwoners van Nigel en Heidelberg is, was dit ‘n groot voorreg om te kon deelneem en SuidAfrika te verteenwoordig. Daar was altesaam 8 resies gehou gedurende die week. Vihan Feldtmann, Danelle Jansen van Vuuren en Brandon Kruger het in die Junior afdeling deelgeneem. Vihan en Danelle het ‘n algehele 37ste plek behaal en ‘n 5de plek in die Junior afdeling. Brandon en Owen Diesel het ‘n algehele 48ste plek behaal en ‘n 6de plek in die Junior Afdeling.
