Following the biggest water supply interruption experienced in September last year in Gauteng, it is now without doubt that water is a precious resource that ought to be conserved at all cost. The City of Ekurhuleni has identif ied several areas that are suffering from major water loss. Some areas participated in an awareness and education campaign from February 11 untill 17 to turn the situation around. Ekurhuleni embarked on a door-to-door campaign to get residents involved in the fight against water loss. During this compaign they focused on educating residents about the importance of conserving water. Ekurhuleni Spokesperson Themba Gadebe said “we thoroughly engage with community members on how to preserve water. More importantly, we give residents DIY (Do It Yourself) tips on repairing internal household leaks. Water conservation material such as basin stoppers and easy to read educational flyers were handed out to the community.” Hopefully there will be a reduction in sewer blockages, which are mainly caused by foreign objects found in sewer lines. It is the responsibilty of every citizen to save water and preserve our natural resources.

Bulk vehicle Huisroof registration The City of Ekurhuleni’s introduction of bulk vehicle registration has proven to be a success as more big companies are coming in droves to receive great licensing services. Since its inception in December, the Licensing Business Desk has managed to generate income to the value of millions through major customers such as Barloworld, Avis, major banks, motor dealerships as well as the taxi industry. Previously a function restricted to the Post Office, the City has provided a viable alternative to the bulk vehicle registration services in the Kempton Park area. The Licensing and Registration Business Desk aims to increase revenue for the metro as well as to build solid relations with major motor industrialists, while creating a favourable environment to register their vehicles in bulk. The intervention has brought to halt the days of waiting for weeks to get vehicle registration documents done and reduced the turnaround time to within three days. “The idea behind the establishment of the centre is to offer convenience and specialized services to our bulk customers by creating a one stop shop for all their vehicle registration needs. The centre also provides an element of f inancial security as it is a cash free zone, meaning transactions are done through the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT),” Ekurhuleni Metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe said. Abortion is no option! Abortion! Is an unborn already a person? Is it the right of a woman to decide whether or not to terminate her pregnancy? Previously abortion in South Africa was merited under very specific conditions. 56% of South Africans viewed abortion as unacceptable and definitely not an option, not even in the case of serious birth defects. 70% do not condone abortion for economic reason or parent preference. Today more and more unwanted pregnancies end as abortions. In South Africa, any woman above the age of 12 years can request an abortion (regardless the reason) as long as she is less than 13 weeks pregnant. If the gestation period is between 13-20 weeks she can get an abortion if her own physical or mental health is at risk, the baby has mental or physical abnormalities, pregnancy because of incest, rape or abuse. After 20 weeks pregnancy abortion is only done if the mother’s life is in danger. The fact that the word abortion does not appear in the Bible does not mean God is silent on the subject. Ps 139:15b-16 “When I was woven together in the depths
of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” In Jer.1:5 God said: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” No child is a mistake! Even if a pregnancy is unplanned every new life is a blessing from God. The emotional trauma of an abortion can have lasting consequences for both parents involved. Some women have very strong negative emotions shortly after the abortion relating to post traumatic stress disorder. An unwanted pregnancy places immense tension on any relationship and can lead to emotions of anger, denial and bargaining. During these desperate times women often opt for the seemingly instant and perfect solution to the “problem”. Abortions may lead to negative emotions, flashbacks and nightmares of the trauma and women are often unable to come to terms with their loss. Many women experience feelings of helplessness, loneliness and suicide thoughts. The possible, physical complications of abortions include uterine rupture, infection and loss of fertility. Back street
abortions can lead to complications that may be life threatening. Considering the impact on the monther’s health, these “quick f ix” back street abortions are definitely not an option.
Before you consider abortion, think about adoption, where you can bring happiness to another couple. We‘re all adopted into God‘s family!
Grieving after the abortion is a reality that many women are not prepared for. It may be a lengthy process requiring skilled counselling. Coming to terms with shame and guilt can complicate the process of healing. Emotional healing after an abortion starts with asking God to forgive you. Forgive everyone involved, most importantly youself. 1 John 1:9 promises, if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Find closure and decide to pursue healthy relationships. What does God say about abortion? Does He see the unborn child as a person? God is the giver of life when a woman becomes pregnant. The unborn must be treated with all the love, concern and protection that he / she deserves. When a pregnant woman in America is murdered in an act of crime, the accused is convicted of double murder. The embrio or fetus is regarded as a person regardless of the term of the pregnancy.

The purpose and role of the pregnancy crisis centre Who do we help? We want to help women and young girls for whom an unplanned pregnancy comes as a traumatic and shattering blow. Maybe a young teenager is still at school and is looking forward to university. Her parents or boyfriend may be putting her under pressure to have an abortion, to forget all about it and get on with her life. A
career woman might be worried about losing her independence. A single parent may fear she could not support a baby. Maybe one more baby for a mother-of-four would be just too much. Or perhaps a young girl became pregnant due to being raped and she was too scared to report the experience to the authorities. Abortion may seem to be the simplest solution for all these women – but it is a choice that cannot be reversed. They need to make their own informed decision and not one based on fear or panic. Not all GP’s and hospitals have time to counsel their patients and explain fully what abortion entails. Many of those coming to pregnancy crisis centres for post-abortion counselling ask the same question: “Why didn’t anyone tell me it would be like this?” They were totally unprepared for the strong feelings of grief and pain that they experienced. Fuel economic grow th The air cargo industry plays a significant role in the economic progress of a country, which has led to various countries and cities using airports as engines for economic growth. This will be illustrated at The AIR CARGO AFRICA 2015 Biannual International Conference and Exhibition, a key networking platform for leaders in the air cargo industry to assess the growing prospects of the African market. The conference takes place from Wednesday, 25 Friday until Friday, 27 February 2015 at Emperors Palace, where the Executive Mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele, will open the exhibition and dialogue between the trade leaders in Africa and world players in the air cargo industry, focusing on this year’s theme, “Air Cargo – Africa’s path to sustainable growth”. Air freight traffic in Africa is presently growing at an average of over six percent, while the global average is 5, 8 percent. In terms of growth statistics, Africa is now positioned behind only the Middle East and Asia Pacific. The growth in the air freight industry has also shown a positive impact on the economic front with 28 out of 52 countries in Africa showing an average five percent annual growth, which is likely to increase. “For us as Ekurhuleni this is not just an event, but an expression of the image of Ekurhuleni as an Airport City with a high developmental agenda that is set to turn the tide of poverty and underdevelopment for the majority of our people. Indeed, the development will translate into a node that will redefine the future of aviation in Africa,” says Gungubele. We have played our part over the years to become known as the manufacturing hub, but it does not end there. We are determined to do more and have put in place plans to achieve this. The day our beloved Country cried, again Last night I experienced an emotion that I hadn’t since the early 1990s. It was fear. A very specific fear. In 1991 I was working through the Church with youth in townships. On a particular Saturday, whilst working in war-torn Everton, we got wind that the security police was looking for us. We hid in a house as the security officials literally stood only a few feet away from where we were hiding. Although we did not get caught, the fear I experienced is difficult to describe as it’s not a fear for oneself but a fear that our people and their freedom and freedoms were being trampled on. Unless one has experienced such an intense emotion I doubt whether one would understand it. That same emotion of “special” fear came flooding back into my veins as police fully armed brushed against me on their way to EFF members to forcibly remove them from the National Assembly chamber. Right before my eyes I saw our beloved country return to South Africa under the height of the State of Emergency of old. Last night marked a turning point in our democracy. It pointed to how our Constitution was set aside and a dictatorial government ruled via the police. We have come full circle. Yesterday started off with the CBD of Cape Town being subjugated by heavy military and police vehicles and personnel present at every corner. Not because they were protecting citizens but because the government wanted the people to be quiet and compliant. Only the “authorised” (easily identified with ANC T-shirts) were allowed to speak and stand on the streets. Although barricades were set up for the public to observe proceedings from behind them, they were to do this quietly without expressing opposing opinions to that of the government’s. And so people like DA national spokesman, Marius Redelinghuys, DA Cape Metro Chairman, Shaun August and other DA members were sprayed by a water cannon, manhandled and arrested because they dared to peacefully protest against the energy crises. The police state is back in South Africa. This is not all. The dark old days of censorship and information control are back. Big brother government will decide what you can see, hear and say. When we walked into the chamber our cell phone signal was blocked. The DA, EFF and even the media present demanded to #BringBackOurSignal. Have the ANC learnt nothing from our history? You cannot block information! An attempt at gagging the media and the opposition at its worst! The censorship didn’t stop there! Changing the way we use energy every day can make a difference in the electricity supply shortage in our country. Top saving tips for the home. The geyser: It uses 39% of your monthly energy usage. Switch it off to reduce your energy demand. Do not forget to insulate the geyser and water pipes. The shower: It uses less water than bathing and using less hot water means less work for the geyser. Use an energy-eff icient shower head as it uses less water. Lighting: Replace all your incandescent bulbs with energy-saving compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and switch off the lights in unoccupied rooms. Standby electricity: Do not leave items, such as your television and DVD player, on standby mode. They still use up to 50%
of their operating power. Rather switch them off at the power switch and do not forget to unplug your cellular phone charger after your phone has been charged or it will continue to utilize power. Refrigerators: Close your refrigerator’s door quickly so that it does not use extra electricity to get back to its optimal cooling level. Temperature control: Keep the room temperature set at between 20°C - 23°C in summer and 18°C in winter. In summer, wear light, loose-fitting clothing, such as shorts and short-sleeved tops and drink plenty of cold fluids to keep your body hydrated. In winter, use an extra jacket, blankets and hot-water bottles to keep warm without using a heater. If the power goes out while you are using an appliance, be safe and disconnect the appliance at the wall. You can minimise the inconvenience of power outages by –
always ensuring that your cellular phone is charged. Keeping a full tank of fuel in your vehicle, because petrol stations cannot pump fuel during power outages. Ensuring that you have enough cash on you as ATMs need electricity to work. Releasing the mechanism that operates your electric garage door, so that you can park your car during a power outage. The same applies for electric security gates. Keeping torches in places where they will be easy to find in the dark. How to keep warm during power outages. Cover hot food to keep it hot and start preparing meals before the power goes out. Keep dry stock of essential foodstuff and have snacks that do not need refrigeration and/or cooking. Remember to dress in layers to keep warm and use blankets.
Use draught excluders against doors to minimise draughts. Close your curtains at night to help retain the warmth and use blankets. Use gas heaters if possible and fill up hotwater bottles before the power goes out. Keep boiling water from your kettle warm in an insulated flask so that you can enjoy a hot cup of tea or coffee, even during a power outage. Of all the energy-using activities in your home, water heating is by far the most energy-intensive and expensive. In fact, your electrical element geyser is responsible for between 30% and 50% of your monthly electricity bill. Cutting your geyser’s energy consumption is the first step toward lowering energy costs. Reduce your electricity consumption and encourage all your family and friends to be electricity wise.

Game score prediction Sasol Nigel Auto City is hosting their very own Superbru Super Rugby Prediction Game. This is the f irst of hopefully many to follow. Last week with the onset of the Super 15 Rugby season, Sasol Nigel Auto City officially launched the competition on Friday the 13th when kick off started between the Crusaders and the Rebels. The competition is based on the Superbru website where over 800 000 people internationally compete annually on all levels of game score prediction and fantasy sports teams. Sasol Nigel Auto City invested in the local soccer teams in December 2014 and would like to become more involved in the community through various sport interactions as this is a common interest across all cultures. Sasol Nigel Auto City has created their own Super 15 Rugby Prediction pool on Superbru and is inviting everyone to partake in the competition. Entry fee for

Die volgende spelers gaan vanaf 23 tot 27 Februarie 2015 aan die nasionale B en C Kampioenskappe op Kroonstad deelneem. Hennie Wirths, Corrie Vorster, Hannes Vorster en Paul Booysen. Op 7 Februarie het Nigel spelers aan die Noordelike Unies Senior Jukskei Toernooi te Krugersdorp deelgeneem. Al hierdie spelers het deel gevorm van Oos Gauteng se senior jukskei spanne. Die volgende spelers het Oos Gauteng verteenwoordig: Andre Grobler, JP Wirths, Hennie Wirths, Rina Wirths, Ria Edwards, Annie du Plessis, Sakkie du Plessis, Ariel Watson, Tiaan Potgieter en Paul Booysen. Spelers wat medaljes tydens die toernooi verower het is JP Wirths en Hennie Wirths – mans A1 span, Ariel Watson – mans A2 span en Annie du Plessis – vroue A1 span. Gesamentlik aan die einde van die dag het Oos Gauteng in die B afdeling tweede plek behaal en die A afdeling was derde. Die spelers gaan op 28 Februarie op Boksburg bane speel en aan die Noordvaal Toernooi deelneem. Die SA Senior kampioenskappe vind vanaf 30 Maart - 4 April te Kroonstad plaas.
