Bloedmaan

I have had the privilege and honour to attend an open conference hosted by a different denomination church. What a blessing to have been part of the conference and being able to hear some theological discussion and feelings from another group of people. What struck me was that on more than one occasion a comment was made that I have heard in many of our own churches. The comment made by one minister went like this: “I finished my studies and left the church because I did not see my way through all the politics of the church”. Church politics has a way of filtering into a church and just causing damage with very little, if any, good coming out from it. But here is something that I would like to share with you today. The politics is NOT only in churches but everywhere. And the sad truth is that the politics is causing damage amongst friends, family and business. Let us think about this. Why do friends break up their friendship? Mostly because of “internal politics” because of something that is said or done (or not done). Further to this a second fact is that not many people take the time to find out what the truth is or to speak to the other party to try and understand why the person said what they said. When it comes to family I have, on many occasions, had the very difficult task of trying to reconcile family members to a point where they can tolerate being in each other’s company without having an argument. When it comes to business there are people who have lost their jobs unfairly because of “internal” politics. And of course there are politics within churches that have broken churches, split churches

and at the same time destroyed people. But here is an interesting observation. When it comes to politics amongst friends, family or business we find that most times the “problem” is sorted out and people get on with their lives (this is especially true in the business world). A lot of the time when there are problems between friends or family members they often seek help from a third party to settle the differences. But when it comes to church the general choice is to leave the church or speak badly Road Users may of someone behind their back. Run to win! 1 Corinthians 9:24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified. (NLT) Every person born on Earth is called to run the race of life. As with everything, we can choose how we engage in the race. Many of us are like athletes ambling around on the track instead of being focused, determined and completely dedicated to our goal – to win the race. Since our prize is not temporary in nature, it is all the more important to dedicate our full attention to what we do so that the goal – to connect every lost person to God, can be successfully obtained. In 1 Corinthians 9:19-27 Paul encourages the church to run the race they are in in such a way that it will honour God – settling for nothing less than what would produce victory in the end. Professional athletes set their goal to win first and foremost in their lives. Not only the time they train, but also every other thing they are involved in centers around what they need to do or refrain from doing in order to succeed. Likewise we need to be single-mindedly focused on obtaining the prize. Paul gives a few pointers as to what exactly is required to do this: • Run with purpose (1 Corinthians 9:26): In order to succeed we need to know with certainty where we are, where we want to be and what we need to do to get there. Unless we have absolute clarity with regards to our goal, we will not have the capacity to obtain it. We have to run with the intention of winning. Defeat is not an option – God provided everything needed for us to achieve the goal set before us. Confusion sets in when we do not want to meet the standard set by the Word. The moment disobedience becomes an option in our minds, confusion starts ruling in our hearts. Successful athletes are single-minded. Successful Christians make the purpose of God for their lives the f irst and foremost priority in everything.

• Discipline the flesh (1 Corinthians 9:2427): Success goes hand-in-hand with discipline. In order to be successful we cannot be subject to what our bodies want. The Bible cautions against being ruled by the flesh numerous times. Just like dedicated athletes have to be disciplined in what they eat, how much they sleep and train regardless of how they feel or what their bodies want, we have to determine what the will of God is and then do whatever it takes to obtain those outcomes. In pursuit of our victory, we are not at liberty to be lead by emotions or comfort. Our bodies are subject to the assignment and therefore not the determining factor in what we do or don’t do. Submission to the flesh in someone that runs to win causes a discrepancy that pre-empts sure defeat. In our walk with the Lord this causes us to speak right whilst failing to do right. Since we work for the ultimate prize of people’s salvation, it is clear that this kind of lifestyle will destroy credibility and so disqualify us as soul winners. • A life of dedication (1 Corinthians 9:19): Born from his freedom in Christ, Paul made a choice to become a servant to every person he encountered. He willingly dedicated his entire life, every action, every word, to winning the lost. The very essence of who he was centered around what he wanted to accomplish. It became a life mission rather than an occasional action. In the same manner, we need to become dedicated, sold out and completely devoted to consistently do whatever we need to do in order to pave the way for people to be saved. Our prize is not a temporary trophy. We are running to win the lost. Jesus paid the ultimate price in pursuit of making salvation possible for all. As children of the Father, in the image of Christ, we should have as our life goal, our most important priority, the very reason we breathe, to see people saved. Anybody that lives like this becomes a source of life to all. A life lived in wisdom, is a life focused on soul winning. Be challenged this week to make the changes necessary – let go of the burdens, embrace the discipline – so as to run the race in such a way that it will bring honour to the One who saved us and whom we love!

Fed-up residents After selling liquor from a residential premises in Dunnottar for two years, the owner is only now applying for special use zoning, and fed-up residents are up in arms. The question in Porter Road is, “how was the trade in liquor and the associated nuisance allowed to continue for two years in spite of our protestations when the property was not zoned for it?” A notice recently appeared on the gate of the residence at 17 Porter Road advising of the proposed application and allowing objections before September 11. However, a prescribed notice published in a Nigel newspaper — one that the residents in Dunnottar do not generally receive — calls for objections before September 24. A resident heard of the neighbouring resident’s plight, and called on the Liquor Board. Apparently, they had no record of a license having been issued to Mr Sipho Mazibuko, and came out to inspect on Tuesday, September 2. Up to date no resident has yet seen the license or permit under which trade has proceeded. In fact, residents are puzzled as to why none of the expected procedures were followed before Mr Mazibuko was allowed to trade. For instance, there was no prior notification or consultation with the neighbours. In the meantime, he has been allowed to extend the premises for the purpose of the liquor trade. Also, the premises are less than about two hundred metres from

Criminal operations strikes Residents of Alra Park in Nigel are suffering under the yoke of rampant drug related crimes and criminal operations, while the SAPS satellite police station only operates during office hours. In a written response to DA questions, Gauteng community safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane and the SAPS revealed that the Alra police station will continue to operate only during office hours, despite repeated community requests for a 24-hour satellite police station. According to the 2013-14 crime statistics, the Nigel SAPS precinct reported a 41% increase in drug-related crimes from previous years. It is clear that Alra Park has become a crime hot-spot, and the virtually total absence of police after hours and on weekends in the area will in all likelihood see crime statistics skyrocket in the years to come. The only solution to this impending crisis is to step up visible policing in the area 24 hours a day, every day. Furthermore, this increased police presence must be complemented by regular intensive crime prevention operations to send a strong message to criminals that their days of doing crime with impunity are over. To this end the DA will engage with MEC Nkosi-Malobane and Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner Lt Gen Lesetja Mothiba requesting for increased police patrols and intensive police operations in Alra Park. The DA will continue to lead the fight against crime and criminals in our communities.

a magistrates court, a police station, and a church building. There are two commercial liquor outlets about five hundred metres away. Nonetheless, the two officials of the Liquor Board satisf ied themselves and two members of the SAPS that Mr Mazibuko is in possession of a valid license or permit for the premises. The next door neighbour whose family bears the brunt of disturbances created by the shebeen, was outside during the inspection. He says he was told that the license was inherited by Mr Mazibuko and transferred from Duduza under the previous liquor law (Liquor Act 27 of 1989 was repealed in 2004). A home owner across the street says he was well acquainted with Mr Mazibuko in Duduza, and is adamant that there was no she been business to transfer the license from. Many residents attribute the marked increase in crime in the area to the presence of the she been. Nuisance factors of the past two years include: the persistent noise during the night, patrons fighting and urinating in the street, the exposure of small children to drunkenness, and motor vehicles blocking the street and driveways. Residents say they have had enough.

Convicted A 38 year old Nigerian, Aniah Success Okeke appeared in Heidelberg Magistrate Court on September 9 and was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment without an option of a fine. He was declared unfit to possess a firearm for the rest of his life. W/O Wolmarans and Sgt Jeffrey Zondo received a tip-off that a white Ford Bantam was parked along Zuid Street in Rensburg selling drugs. Upon further investigation, they spotted the alleged vehicle, approached the driver, asked to search him and his vehicle. Drugs were found in the door panels as well as in the suspect’s pocket. The drugs were estimated with a street value of R6 000-00. The same suspect was arrested during January 2014 when his vehicle was spotted along R23 Road next to Shalimar Ridge Primary School. Upon searching him and his vehicle, he was found with drugs, but the case was nullified to prosecute.

Psalm 51:10.. ‘n Nuwe heilige verhouding met my God, my medemens en naaste. Lees Psalm 121: 1-8. Gebed: Hemelse Vader. Ek roep na U vanuit my toestand van duisternis en vra dat U ewige lig in my sal inskyn. Verander my, red my, maak my ‘n kind van die Lig, sodat ek U wil in my lewe sal raaksien en doen. Ek vra dit opreg…In Jesus naam. Amen.

Public sector wage bill set to balloon as municipal managers earn more The DA wrote to the Portfolio Committee Chairperson on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Richard Mdakane, to request that he call Minister Pravin Gordhan to brief the committee on the rationale for the wage increases for municipal managers and directors and affordability thereof to Municipalities. Municipal managers and senior staff in local authorities are set to enjoy salary increases following the recategorisation of Municipalities by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs. The increases will result in some salary packages exceeding 40%. This is the third remuneration adjustment for senior municipal officials in less than a year. It is a major concern that most Municipalities are spending a bigger proportion of their total income on paying salaries. These pay hikes must come with more responsibility and officials must be held accountable if they fail to deliver. Contracts of municipal managers must be linked to the delivery of services, and salaries should be based on affordability

to the relevant local municipality. Money should rather be given to Municipalities for the betterment of service delivery projects, instead of increasing the salaries municipal officials. To make matters worse, the Auditor General of South Africa in the latest Consolidated General Report on the Audit Outcomes of Local Government, revealed that a f ifth of the country’s municipal managers currently do not even meet the minimum competency requirements. The DA would ensure that all municipal officials meet the minimum competency levels before they are hired - competency testing as part of the selection process for public sector employees (especially on a senior management level) is of utmost importance, and those who are already in position would be moved into positions more suitable to their qualifications and skills. It is unjustifiable that the new municipal mangers in category 8-9 Municipalities may earn up to R3.3 million. South Africa desperately needs competent, effective and efficient officials in the public service in order to make local

government the most direct and accessible form of government for most South Africans work. The public sector wage bill currently stands at an astonishing R400 billion. The projected total for the 2016/17 f inancial year will R430 billion - this represents 35,5% of the governments total budget. South Africa can simply not afford a public wage bill that continues to balloon unabated.

Daar was 53 takke verteenwoordig waarvan 111 afgevaardigdes was.

RSG vermaak

Walk for peace

Indigenous & Fruit Trees for communities Approximately 2000 trees were planted in various areas of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality to advance government’s commitment in environmental management and conservation. The Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) in partnership with Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality and SANBI will continue with Arbour celebrations by planting trees in areas such as Kwa-Thema, Tsakane and Duduza. Some identified households will receive fruit trees to promote food security and alleviate poverty. Ekurhuleni officials have been hard at work digging and lining indigenous trees in public spaces and newly developed areas of the municipality. GDARD MEC Lebogang Maile says “communities need to appreciate indigenous trees as they do not pose a threat to our environment. Unlike alien plants such as Blue gum, indigenous trees do not consume a lot of water. We are a water scarce country and need to replace aliens with indigenous trees.”

NIGEL/HEIDELBERG REKORD - ONLINE EDITION www.rekord.org.za

Survey reveals what make SA see red! Traffic jams, queue jumpers and people who think rules don’t apply to them have emerged among the list of 30 things that gets South Africans’ blood boiling, according to a just-released health survey. More than 1 300 South Africans were polled by the country’s leading heart and stroke treatment provider, Pharma Dynamics, to divulge the things that most get their goat, with taxi drivers topping the list. People cutting in line, folk who ignore the rules, forgetting to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and loadshedding complete SA’s top f ive rage-inducing annoyances. Commuting in SA evidently also shoots our blood pressure through the roof especially when motorists and/or cyclists jump red traffic lights, when busses or trains don’t stick to schedules and get cancelled at the last minute, drivers ignoring zebra crossings or when Cocky Joes rip through suburbia or housing estates at supersonic speeds. Other temper-triggers highlighted in Pharma Dynamics’ poll include anti-social behaviour such as when someone pays more attention to their electronic device(s) than to you, along with having to go through endless automated phone options and then being kept on hold. Money also leaves us fuming with high petrol prices, having to pay a fee for withdrawing money from an ATM, paying for parking when you only intend to pop in to the shops quickly and seeing salaries disappear in fees and taxes all on the list. Mariska van Aswegen, spokesperson of Pharma Dynamic said they commissioned the poll as a way to get South Africans to take their heart-health more seriously. “With 6.3 million South Africans living with high blood pressure, SA has one of the highest rates of hypertension in the world. Many however remain unaware of their condition because high blood pressure usually has no symptoms. Hypertension is also a precursor and leading cause behind other life-threatening conditions such as stroke and heart disease. “Stressful situations can cause your blood pressure to spike temporarily, but too much stress could lead to high blood pressure in the long-run. Doing activities that can help you manage your stress and improve your health can make a long-term difference in lowering blood pressure,” she says. SA’s top 30 annoyances according to the survey are: 1. Taxi drivers. 2. Queue jumpers. 3. People who think rules don’t apply to them. 4. Bad manners. 5. Load-shedding. 6. Rudeness in general. 7. Having to go through lots of automated phone options and then being kept on hold. 8. Traff ic jams. 9. Smoking

around children. 10. Spitting in public. 11. Motorists and/or cyclists who jump red traffic lights. 12. Antisocial behaviour e.g. when someone pays more attention to their electronic device(s) than to you. 13. Backstab-bers. 14.Using cellphones while driving. 15. People eating loudly and sloppily. 16. Petrol price increases. 17.Laziness. 18.People who swear all the time. 19. People who can’t spell or use correct grammar. 20. Paying a fee for withdrawing money from an ATM. 21. Pop-up adverts on the internet. 22. Paying tax. 23. Office suck ups. 24. Paying for parking when you only intend to pop in to the shops quick. 25. Drivers speeding through housing estates. 26. Your neighbour mowing the lawn or drilling at 7am on the weekend. 27. Drivers ignoring zebra crossings. 28. Tardiness. 29. Tissues in the washing machine. 30.Busses or trains being cancelled. According to Pharma Dynamics’ survey, almost a third of South Africans are easily provoked with partners, call centre agents and fellow motorists most likely to be on the receiving end of their anger. Twenty percent of respondents experience daily stress and aggravation from everyday irritations and frustrations, and almost 40% admitted that these usually cause them stress long after the incident. Van Aswegen says if you’re tired, stressed or simply at the end of your tether, it doesn’t take much to make your blood boil. “Statistics show that about 130 heart attacks and 240 strokes occur daily in SA, which means that 10 people will suffer a stroke and f ive will have a heart attack every hour. We would like to call on all South Africans to have their blood pressure tested at least annually,” she says. The f indings of Pharma Dynamics’ survey were released in September to mark National Heart Awareness Month. Have your blood pressure tested for free by the Heart & Stroke Foundation this month. For scheduled screenings in your area, visit www.pharmadynamics.co.za.

Alra Park swembad voltooi DA Rdl.

In a previous organizational message: ‘DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: AM I A POTENTIAL VICTIM?’ warning signs were discussed with an attached questionnaire called ‘Relationship Quiz: Am I Being Abused?’ stating that one had to get out of the relationship if it sounded familiar… The website www.beliefnet.com states that “It is important to stand up against domestic violence. The lives of victims are priceless and in order for change to take place, an end must begin.” The website provides five tips to get out of a situation of domestic violence: 1. Alert your circle Have a support system to lean on emotionally. It is important to have positive people surrounding you at this difficult time. Friends and family will come together to help you make your departure a reality, you just need to let them know what is going on. 2. Get professional help Consult a support group or domestic violence centre for assistance. The SAPS’ Social Work Services is available 24 hours to provide therapeutic assistance and guidance and can assist you with developing the necessary skills to cope with your situation. 3. Create a safety plan Whether you are preparing to leave or have already left – have a safety plan. Some things to consider, will be keeping your cell phone charged, having copies of the protective order and other important

documents, ensuring that people are aware of the abuser so that they can keep an eye out for him, screen calls and have your family members on speed dial. 4. Alert your office Talk to your commander - let him or her know about your situation. It will also be wise to make arrangements with someone at work to walk with you to your vehicle and from your vehicle to the off ice, because there is a possibility that your abuser will make an attempt to see you at work. 5. Have an exit plan Make a list and plan what to take with you, think carefully which items are necessities. Think of a time when the abuser will not be at home and arrange with an individual or group of people to stay with you for the duration of your move. It may also be wise to alert the police about the situation, so that they can keep the area under surveillance.

A Golden Choice The much loved and cultivated Marigold is a firm favourite in gardens around South Africa. Its discovery by the Portuguese in Central America is where it all began, seeing its introduction to Europe and Asia in the 16th century. Spanish explorers also took seeds to northern Africa and Spain, ensuring this beauty’s footprint was quite widespread. The first documented use of Marigold, as herbs, dates back to a manuscript written in 1552. More recently, they are cultivated for use in dyes, medicines and ceremonies in both India and Pakistan. Garlands are probably the most widely used application of marigolds in religion, from Latin American culture to India in the Hindu ceremonies.
