No zoning, trade continues Faced with public opposition, the owner of a tavern in Porter Road, Dunnottar, withdrew his application for special use zoning of the premises. Nonetheless, he continues to trade. On September 28, the residents’ association met with the head of City Planning, Dirk van Rooyen, who confirmed that the tavern is not allowed to trade. This was shared with the local police on the same day, and residents were hopeful that something would be done.
This question has not yet been answered by the liquor board. After an inspection of the property, Joseph Mabelane of the Gauteng liquor board merely informed the residents’ association that “the tavern is trading with a valid shebeen permit.” A shebeen and a tavern are different things in the Liquor Act. Fondse vir Cansa Die SAVF van Nigel het ‘n groep bekend as Rainbow of Hope bygestaan om fondse in te samel ten bate van Cansa. Rainbow of hope bestaan uit individue wat as groep inskryf om deel te neem aan die “Relay for life” in Ellisras. Hierdie groep
stap deur die nag en bekom fondse vir Cansa asook stalletjies. SAVF se vrywilligers en kliënte het gehelp om doilies te hekel. Breggie Naude, ‘n lid van Rainbow of Hope het hierdie doilies verander in ‘dangling doilies’ wat by hul stalletjie
13 OCTOBER 2015 verkoop was. Rainbow of hope het die volgende toekennings by “Relay for Life” ontvang. Hulle behaal ‘n eerste algemene plek uit ongeveer 16 spanne wat deelgeneem het. Hul was ook die span wat eerste geregistreer het en die meeste fondse ingesamel het. Rainbow of hope bedank die SAVF vir “dangling doilies of hope” wat hul verkope suksesvol gemaak het.
Breaks becoming more stressful When last did you have a break? Not just a short holiday but rather a proper break. I think if we are all honest very few of us could say that we have had a true break from work for many years. Technology has developed to such a point that we are never far away from work, it is just a cell call, email, sms or Whatsapp and we are in touch with the world – including our office. The fact is that when posts become vacant they are not being filled and the workload is being spread to the employees still left at the company. This means that the workload is getting larger and larger. At the same time the remuneration remains the same and so the company scores and the employee generally lose. This extra workload also has other implications. The employee cannot go on leave because there is no other person who can stand in and do that person’s job. Secondly the person is worried to be away too long because someone else could be given the work to do and when the person on leave returns they are told that they have not got a job anymore.
What does this mean to the everyday person? It means that you go on leave but you are actually not on leave. When I was at school I remember going on holiday with my parents and my father never ever got a call to ask to do something or to write a letter or to release a payment. When we went away my Dad had a well-deserved rest and when he returned to work he did not have “mountains” of work piled up waiting for him because nobody bothered to “cover” for him while he was away. Net result – we need to make sure that we put things into place so that we can handle the stress of our day to day living. Make sure that you eat right, makes sure that you exercise and do all the “nice” things in moderation. In other words look after your body – it is the only one you have and when it breaks it breaks…. Take time to find an accountability partner (takes about 2 years) who you can share your concerns with. Make sure that your relationship at home is not strained because this will add to the stress. Live within your financial means and do not make unnecessary debt. Most importantly,

Onwettige uitsettings! Terwyl dit geen geheim is dat munisipaliteite reg oor die land verskeie uitdagings ervaar..... WARA WARA .., is dit tyd dat iemand ophou so diplomaties wees en sê wat regtig aangaan. Ek doen ‘n beroep op almal wat glo dat ons tans in so ‘n wonderlike demokratiese land woon om hulself te vra of dit net ‘n voorreg vir die welgesteldes is of ook vir ou mense, gestremdes en minderbevoorregtes om te hê wat ookal elkeen van ons het. Sedert 17 Augustus 2015 het verskeie inwoners van munisipale wonings
briewe ontvang vanaf Lesedi Munisipaliteit, waarin hul gedreig word om hul jare lange wonings te verlaat binne 30 dae anders sal hul met geweld verwyder word. Hierdie briewe beskou ek as ongeldig aangesien daar geen intree datum is nie. Volgens Wet: Constitutional Rights Sec(26)3 mag iemand slegs deur ‘n wettige hofbevel ‘n uitsetting uitvoer en selfs dan is dit nie te sê dat diegene wat sodanige aansoek voor die hof bring suksevol sal wees nie. Wat Lesedi doen is nie net onwettig nie maar kan ook as intimidasie beskou word, wat as krimineel klassifiseer om mense te dreig om hul en hul geliefdes met geweld uit hul woning te verwyder. Dis ontneming van elke baba, kleuter, ou mens, sieke en wie nie vir hulself kan baklei se mense regte. Lesedi sê dit is te danke aan die feit dat sekere mense nie die nuwe huur kontrak wil teken nie. Tog het mense wat wel die kontrakte geteken het steeds dieselfde briewe ontvang. Die kontrakte is ook ongeldig aangesien Lesedi ‘n blanke kontrak gegee het en inwoners onder

Die resultaat was dat daar vir my gesê is deur die betrokke mense, dat dit niks met my te doen het en ek nie hoef te weet wie die nuwe opsigter sal word nie. So net soos al die ander inwoners weet niemand waar of wie die opsigter op die boeke is nie. Bewerings is dat sy in Ratanda woonagtig is wat teenstrydig is met die beleid ‘n opsigter moet op die perseel woon. Daar is verwys na die inwoners as ‘n “las” wat nie vir ‘hul’geld inbring nie en aan my gestel dat daar seker gemaak sal word, dat daar nie een blanke oorbly nie. Die waglys vir wonings word gemanipuleer en gevolglik word daar net mense van sekere rasse wonings toegeken vir die laaste jaar. As dit by rekeninge kom sê hulle, LESEDI maak geen foute nie. Maar Lesedi stuur steeds vir mense wie al amper ‘n jaar oorlede is, rekeninge wat elke maand verbruik wys terwyl die woonstel vir beter dae vir die hele jaar leeg staan. Daar is goeie verhoudings tussen die huidige inwoners
13 OCTOBER 2015 maar mense wil weet hoe is dit dat hoogs betaalde werknemers van Lesedi en Eskom, wat een na die ander woonstelle toegeken is, voorkeur geniet, bo mense op die waglys vir jare. Die gevoel is eens dat daar in die laaste jaar nie meer woonstelle toegeken word aan blankes nie en net blankes, briewe gekry het om te ontruim. Waarmee is Lesedi besig? Munisipale wonings beteken nie munisipale werknemers moet voorkeur kry nie. Ek het vriende van alle rasse en afkoms en selfs daai mense van ander vel kleur, wat hoe lank wag vir wonings, maar as jy sien word iemand van Lesedi ‘n woning gegee. Hulle betaal ook minder as al die ander inwoners en kry nie dieselfde uiteensetting op hul faktuur nie. Blyk hul betaal net een minimale bedrag met geen heffings en so meer nie. lnwoners se tariewe bly verhoog word, maar geen dienste word voorsien nie. Lesedi eis dat die inwoners basiese heffings moet betaal en moet stil bly aangesien die huur laag is. Wel ek sê die kleur van daai ongeskiktheids pensioene se note bly dieselfde as die wat die raad so graag inpalm. Die eienaar van ‘n perseel is verantwoordelik vir erfbelasting en nie die huurder nie. Tenspyte van beurt krag is daar geen afname in verbruik nie maar verhoogde rekenings, oor daar nie meter lesings gedoen maar geskat word. Daar word nie voldoen aan die inwoners se beveiliging, gesondheids vereistes of ander dienste nie, maar inwoners betaal vir dienste heff ings asook fooie bo en behalwe hul huur. Ek wil almal wat die’ skrywe lees vra om goed te kyk na hoe geseënd ons is. Onthou toe die lewe jou ook ‘n curve ball gegooi het, al iets of iemand weggevat het en jy dalk weer oor moes begin. Maar jy gelukkig genoeg was om dit te doen. Party mense kom nooit oor so iets en steeds soek hul niks van niemand. Net die reg om te leef en te bestaan. Die mense by LESEDI wat betrokke is hierby en jul eie agendas het, ek weet wie julie is. Ek rig ‘n versoek dat jul hierdie inwoners met rus sal laat en sal staak waarmee jul besig is..... want ek weet ook wie julie is. Warren, Heidelberg

Missing person Ratanda police are requesting assistance in locating a missing person, 25 year old resident from 2009 Heidelberg Road, Ratanda in Heidelberg. He was last seen on Sunday, September 27 at about 16:00. He went to his fathers’ bedroom while he was sleeping and gave his cell phone and wallet to his father. He said he would be back he is going to see his friends but he never returned. He wear a black and gold t-shirt, navy blue jeans, navy shoes and a red cap. He is epileptic. lig wat aanbreek en al die mooi wat daarmee saam gaan, is die verloop van hierdie dag onseker en vol uitdagings. Moontlik word ek geseën met menige gelyke paaie en afdraendes, maar hoe weet ek soggens hoeveel teëspoed die dag vir my inhou. Die wyse Salomo spreek die jongmense aan deur te sê: ‘Geniet die dae van jou jonkheid, maar moenie vergeet dat daar ‘n dag van afrekening kom nie’. Die ware feit bly staan dat ná die dag met sy onskuld, prag, skoonheid en lig, kom daar sekerlik weer ‘n nag. Wanneer ek klaar is met my werk en my dag se taak afgehandel is, of dalk is daar iets wat ek nagelaat het om te doen, sal my kanse en geleenthede, wat hierdie dag aanbetref, vir ewig verby wees. Of ek nou suksesvol was of nie, dit is klaar en afgehandel. Ek sal wel agterkom of dit ‘n vraagteken of ‘n uitroepteken verdien. Met die aanbreek van die nag blaas die eindfluitjie en geen beseringstyd word toegestaan nie. Die horlosie kan nie teruggedraai word nie en die dag van gister is vir ewig verby. Ons sal nie kan vra dat tyd wat verkwis is, weer aangebied word nie. Daarom moet ek versigtig wees hoe ek lewe terwyl dit nog dag is. Soms is dit, tesame met die Bybel, brose mense wat ons deurentyd waarsku en aanmoedig om reg te lewe…Maar dit is eintlik God deur Sy genade wat met ons praat. Die prediker, berader of mede-christen is mense nes ek en jy. Hulle is nie God nie, maar word deur Hom gebruik deur hul bereidwilligheid om in Sy opdrag met ander te deel en vir ander te bid.
