Have a save journey Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has called on motorists and pedestrians to be more vigilant and change their behaviour on the country’s roads as the festive season approaches. Speaking at a community event to commemorate World Remembrance Day, the Minister said the majority of all incidents on the roads were due to human negligence as a result of traffic violations. “An accident happens when no one is at fault. From statistics, we have deducted that
95% of crashes occur due to recklessness and someone violating traffic laws. Up to date 14 000 people lost their lives in South Africa due to road carnage. Out of these, 80% were young people aged between 19 and 34 years. Minister Peters appealed to the various church leaders to not only pray for motorists to be safe on the roads, but to also preach safety on the roads in their places of worship. “Let us tell the people that if we don’t
speed, if we don’t drive recklessly and disobey the rules of the road, if we don’t speak on cell phone[s] while we drive, [we
can reduce carnage on our roads].”she said She further requested that they encourage people to drive roadworthy vehicles.

Make a difference I think that most Christians would agree that 2015 has been a very rough year, not only as far as the economy is concerned but also as far as the spiritual battle against outside influences is concerned. With this in mind I would like to encourage all Christians to gather together as the Body of Jesus Christ and pray against these principalities. We, as Christ Followers, need to free our town called Heidelberg, our town called Nigel and our town called Balfour of this stronghold. We first need to realize that we will be praying with the authority that Jesus has given to us. We read in Matthew 28:18-19 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go. The “therefore go” is telling us that Jesus is sending us with the same authority given to Him. Because of this statement we can know that when we pray we pray with authority. Jesus is victorious over all and we are praying from a platform of victory and so we need have no fear. The second thing that we need to be aware of is that our fight is not of the flesh (man/ women) but rather of the principalities (spiritual world). With this understanding we need to realize that we cannot fight or win this battle with our own strength. We need to call on God and ask Him to protect us and guide us in all that we do. We are reminded from this in Paul’s book to the Ephesians 6:11 Put on the full armour of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. This is not an instruction that should be taken lightly, this is serious stuff. I challenge all Christ Followers to pray the Armour of God over your family, home, business and school each and every morning.

But there are many who are not going to head to the warning. So here is where you can make a difference. As a Christ Follower who is following the instruction given to us by Jesus we are called to pray for others. So each morning, afternoon or evening, while on CPF patrol, walking, running or riding (in fact whenever you want) take time to pray specifically for the household next to you, across the road from you and as you drive down the road. Pray Jesus’ protection on the families and businesses and schools. Bind Satan in the name of Jesus away from your home, business or school and all the homes, businesses and schools you are passing. We are at war and we are on the winning side. Let us make a difference to the people around us and free our area and town from any stronghold.

Petitions to appear before committee Gauteng, and the rest of the country, is experiencing the worst drought in 23 years. “In Ekurhuleni this drought has been compounded by poor management by Rand Water and the Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality (EMM), which has resulted in water shortages in the municipality and many households’ taps running dry. South Africans have for far too long suffered due to the failure by the ANC government at a national, provincial and local level. The current water crisis in Ekurhuleni could have been avoided had Rand Water implemented the plan they presented to the Portfolio Committee on Water and Sanitation on 25 February 2015. Given the water crisis that hit Ekurhuleni
last year September one would have expected Rand Water to implement their own solutions as a matter of urgency. In addition it is unacceptable that Ekurhuleni Metro still have not implemented a Telemetry System (a computer system) that would immediately alert them when reservoirs are running low. The days of using sticks to determine water levels are long gone.” said Mike Waters The DA has therefore launched a petition calling on both Rand Water and the Ekurhuleni Metro to appear before the Portfolio Committee on Water & Sanitation in order to provide details and timeframes as to when: Rand Water will install independent power supplies at all of its
pump stations; and Ekurhuleni Metro will implement the computerised telemetry system. Rand Water and the Ekurhuleni Metro also need to provide their action plan to repair and maintain water infrastructure as Ekurhuleni is losing 39.8% of its water on a yearly basis and the rea-sons why the fi-nancial s t a t e m e n t s submitted to Gauteng Treasury showed that at the end of the 2014/15 f inancial year in June, the Ekurhu-

(NLT) The word ‘debt’ refers to being obligated, liable, tied up, in arrears, needy and lacking. The Bible makes it very clear that this is not at all what God wants for any of His children. In order to step into the freedom that God has for us, financially and in every area of our lives, we have to adhere to the principles taught in the Bible. The Bible speaks about f inances extensively and has much to offer in the line of financial wisdom. Are you financially wise and living the way God wants you to in this very important area of your life? The answer to this question can be found in measuring yourself according to the following indicators of financial distress: •Living on credit rather than paying cash (Proverbs 3:27): Anything that cannot be paid for immediately should not be purchased. •Delayed or minimum payments (Romans 13:8): As Christians the Bible instructs us to refrain from owing anybody anything but loving them. Making minimum payment only keeps us in maintenance mode instead of taking us to freedom. •Inability to tithe and offer or to save (Malachi 3:8): Giving, both to God and others can be seen as an eternal investment. Saving takes care of our future whilst debt keeps pulling us back into the past. Failure to tithe and offer or to save sets us up for lack. •Inability to pay taxes (Matthew 22:21): God wants us to be responsible citizens that abide by the law and pay the taxes due. •A tendency to overspend (Proverbs 21:17): Extravagant spending normally happens in the spur of the moment and is contrary to proper budgeting and planned management of our resources. •Constantly looking out for ‘get-richquick’ schemes (Proverbs 21:5; Ecclesiastes 5:7): The Bible does not support simply dreaming without putting any meaningful action to it. When we step
out in faith and apply the Word, God does for us what we cannot do for ourselves. The Bible does not only teach what we should not do, but also how we can grow and step into the prosperity God has for us. The first step to becoming financially liberated is making a commitment to become debt free as soon as possible. The Bible makes it very clear that not paying debt is regarded as wickedness by God. As His children we should make paying off existing debt and not making any more debt a priority. Once this commitment is fixed in place, the following steps can take us a long way to where we want to be: •Make tithing a priority: By honouring the Lord as our provider, source and f irst priority we bring the totality of our finances under God’s covering when we tithe and offer from our income. •List assets and liabilities: In order to be effective, this should be done honestly and with accuracy. No informed decisions can be made without knowing exactly what the situation is. •Get rid of redundant possessions: Keeping things in order and not holding on to unused, unnecessary possessions helps us to take control of our lives. •Draw up a repayment plan: As with anything, failure to plan will result in failure to reach goals. It is important to determine and write down what the payment strategy is and then to stick to it in a disciplined manner (Galatians 6:9). Taking full responsibility for our finances entails being honest and transparent with those who are affected by what we do. It is important to communicate with creditors with regards to what the plan is to settle outstanding debt. •Trust God for blessing: Whenever we obey the Word, we position ourselves for the blessing of God. As we step out in obedience we can pray and be confident that the Lord will help us to succeed and to prosper. Mors van water Talle Rekord lesers het gereageer op die berigte wat ons geplaas het in die uitgawe van 24 November oor water besparing. Die kern van die saak is egter dat Rekord verskeie klagtes van waterlekkasies ontvang het. Dit plaas ‘n groot kommer onder die gemeenskap, as gevolg van die feit, dat daar so ‘n geweldige beroep gedoen word op die besparing van water, maar terselfdertyd word daar niks gedoen aan die waterlekkasies wat gerapporteer word nie. Sommige inwoners van Dunnottar vertel dat die watermeter in hul straat nou al vir 15 dae lank lek en ‘n versoek is al van dag een af aan die munisipaliteit gerig om die probleem op te los, maar te vergeefs. ‘n Ander lid van die gemeenskap se mening is, dat daar water beperkings is en dat Ekurhuleni die publiek waarsku van hewige boetes as hul nie water bespaar nie, maar watter boetes en wie kan boetes toepas op Ekurhuleni indien hulle nie dadelik reageer op waterlekkasies nie.
‘n Inwoner van Springs skryf dat daar galonne water in ‘n straat in Springs afloop en niemand doen iets daaraan nie. Die publiek voel dat Ekurhuleni moet seker maak dat water nie onnodig gemors word nie, aangesien ‘n water tekort almal kan benadeel. Sommige inwoners staaf dat dit help nie die inwoners doen hul deel, maar Ekurhuleni is laks om hul kant te bring nie, dit veroorsaak die hoofprobleem. Verskeie inwoners van woonstelblokke vertel dat waterlekkasies eers na 2 maande van rapportering, nadat veelvoudige oproepe gemaak is, herstel is. Dit is mors van water. Verskeie lesers vertel dat hul na talle oproepe en klagtes eers maande later reaksie ontvang op waterlekkasies wat herstel moet word. Die verskoning van die munisipaliteit se kant is dat die werk uit gekontrakteur word. Water besparings kan sleg effektief en geslaagd aangewend word as almal saam werk en doen wat van hul verwag word.

Die bestuur en lidmate van SIMFONÉA GEMEENTE wens alle lesers ‘n geseënde feestyd toe. Ons wil almal bedank vir die terugvoer, wat ons van tyd tot tyd van elkeen ontvang. Dwarsoor die wêreld word Desembermaand uitgesonder as ‘n gedenktydperk vir die geboorte van onse Here Jesus Christus. Dit gaan nie oor die dag as sulks nie, maar oor die feit dat die Heiland aarde toe gekom het, om sondaars soos ek en jy te red. Mag hierdie feesdae vir jou en die familie opnuut ‘n besondere belewenis wees en mag Hy, die Saligmaker, ook vir ons almal ‘n nuwe werklikheid word. Lukas 2 vers 9 tot 14: “En meteens staan daar ‘n engel van die Here by hulle, en die heerlikheid van die Here het rondom hulle geskyn en groot vrees het hulle oorweldig. En die engel sê vir hulle: Moenie vrees nie, want kyk, ek bring julle ‘n goeie tyding van groot blydskap wat vir die hele volk sal wees, dat vir julle vandag in die stad van Dawid gebore is die Saligmaker wat Christus, die Here, is. En dit is vir julle die teken: julle sal ‘n Kindjie vind wat in doeke toegedraai is en wat in die krip lê. En skielik was daar saam met die engel ‘n menigte van die hemelse leërskare wat God prys en sê: Eer aan God in die hoogste hemele en vrede op aarde, in die mense ‘n welbehae!” Saam met hierdie belofte volg dan ook die versekering dat Hy nie net gebore is en daarna weggevaar het nie, maar dat Hy deur die Heilige Gees steeds by ons woon.
En saam hiermee geniet ons ook Sy daaglikse versorging en ervaar ons dat Hy nie net naby is nie, maar dat Hy ons versugtinge en behoeftes ken. Hier volg ‘n getuienis deur Hans du Preez, een van SIMFONÉA -GEMEENTE se getroue seniorlidmate, wat ‘n praktiese voorbeeld is van die feit dat hierdie Betlehemkind steeds by ons is: In die laaste dekades word die Bybel so dikwels deur baie gekritiseer en betwyfel as die ware Woord van God. Die moderne wetenskap word verhef tot die enigste betroubare rigsnoer en vir baie het Darwin se ’Origen of species’ die nuwe Bybel geword. Ons wat nog glo, word as fundamentaliste gebrandmerk. As ‘n gewone eenvoudige sterfling het ek die volgende te sê oor die Bybel. Een môre baie vroeg, omstreeks 2 uur het ek in my sitkamer gesit. Die dorp het tot ruste gekom en buite was dit grafstil. Ek het gebid, maar aan die einde van my gebed het ek ‘n toevoeging gehad. Ek het gevra: Here, hoe weet ek of U my gebed regtig gehoor het? Onmiddelik het ek gedring gevoel om uit my stoel uit op te staan, my Bybel op die tafel in die middel van die vertrek te gaan vat en sommer op enige plek oop te slaan. Daar was nie ‘n merker in nie en ek het op die linkerkantse bladsy, waar dit oopgeval het, gekyk. Die teks waarop my oog geval het was nie onderstreep of gemerk nie. Die teks was: “Sou Hy wat die oor plant, nie kan hoor nie?” (Psalm 94:9). My hart het vining geklop. Die Here het my gehoor en Hy maak bemoeienis met my. Om 2uur in die oggend was God wakker om my gebed aan te hoor. Hy is werklik die Bewaarder wat nie sluimer of slaap nie, soos wat daar in die Bybel geskryf staan. Die Bybel is vir my onweerlegbaar Sy Heilige Woord en dit is vir my so duidelik en direk bevestig en geopenbaar. Dit was nie die enigste keer dat ek op dié wyse geantwoord is nie. Ek weet ook van nog Christene wat op dieselfde wyse antwoorde op gebed uit die Bybel ontvang het. My vraag is: Sal die mensdom uit enige ander boek, te midde van al die miljarde boeke op aarde, op dieselfde wyse antwoorde op gebed ontvang?

Building wise - the thatched lapa One of South Africa’s favorite garden shelters is the thatch roof lapa. It is cool in summer, has an earthy smell and creates a bushveld atmosphere right in your suburban yard. It has many uses as a pool-side shade, braai area, carport or an extra verandah.There are however strict regulations regarding thatched roofs, but unfortunately these are more often than not ignored by home owners. Too many owners react on a cardboard advert against a stop sign, get a ‘bakkie’ builder from the street to put up a few gum poles, thatch it over and ‘voila’ there is our new entertainment area. The so-called ‘contractor’ assures the client that all is well and according to regulation, and of course “you don’t need a plan for only a lapa”! —-Wrong!! 1. In a previous article it was pointed out that any structure over 5 square meters in area (i.e. 2m x2, 5 m) requires a plan approved by the municipality. The limit for a round “umbrella” is a diameter (cross section) of not more than 2,5 meters. 2. A thatch roof is a high fire hazard, and is therefore regulated by SANS 10400 (various parts) and SANS 10407. It follows that only a person fully conversant with both codes, and registered with the SA Council for the Architectural Profession is allowed to draw plans for lapas and other thatched roofs. 3. In these regulations there is a standard design for gum pole roof structures up to a 6 meter span, as well as all the details of roof slopes, thickness of thatch, type of twine to be used and fire protection systems: all required to comply by law with the regulations. Some of these specifications are highly technical, and need to be interpreted and specified by trained persons. 4. If you want to deviate from the sizes, shapes and limits prescribed in the regulations, the design must be done by one of three groups of registered persons only, namely a Professional Engineer, Pr. Architect or Pr. Snr. Arch. Technologist, and no one else. 5. The placing of the lapa or roof on the site is also strictly controlled. There are safety distances from the thatched roof to boundaries and other buildings to be observed. There are many illegal thatched roofs that are attached to existing structures creating a verandah, carport or lean-to, without the proper considerations and f ire precautions. Many lapas have braai chimneys that do not comply with the regulations. 6. Hulle is dit eens dat die geheim in oud word daarin lê om aktief besig te bly en om hulle denke te vul met positiwiteit. Mev. Hannetjie Groesbeeck woon in haar eie woonstelletjie op die terrein en is selfversorgend. Sy geniet dit om in haar vrye tyd tee-nette te maak. Sy besoek graag die verswaktes in die versorgingseenheid. Mev. Marie Coetzee is ‘n baie aktiewe inwoner en help graag met al die kreatiewe aktiwiteite wat in die Tuiste aangebied word. Tannie Marie is ‘n groot aanwins vir die Tuiste, met haar sagmoedige en langmoedige geaardheid help sy ander inwoners om hul kreatiewe kant te ontwikkel. Mev. Rina Rudman is selfversorgend en woon in ‘n woonstelletjie op die terrein. Sy ry nog met haar eie motor rond en is totaal onafhanklik. Mev Rudman geniet dit om haar eie naaldwerk te doen. Sy is geseën met 3 kinders, maar ongelukkig woon slegs een van hulle na aan haar. Mev. Riekie Jacobs woon, sover moontlik, die meeste van die aktiwiteite by die Tuiste by. Sy stap graag ver ente en beskou hierdie aktiwiteit as haar geheim om jonk te bly. Sy glo ook daaraan dat “Scrabble” haar denke besig hou. Mnr Rassie Erasmus glo die 90 jariges en ouer is in ‘n nuwe tyd. Hulle begin weer van voor af. Oom Rassie verjaar op 30 April en gebruik graag die gesegte: ”Ek
verjaar in April en skeer gek net waar ek wil.” Mev. Sannie Smit (95) is gesëend met 7 kinders, 20 kleinkinders, 35 agter kleinkinders en 6 agter-agter klein kinders. Sy sien ook met groot verwagting uit na nog 2 agter- agter kleinkinders wat binnekort gebore gaan word. Sy dank die Hemelse Vader vir die tyd wat sy op aarde gegun is en vir haar familie, veral haar 7 dogters wat haar so ondersteun. Mev. Lottie Pretorius (92) het 9 kinders groot gemaak. Sy spog met 34 kleinkinders en 6 agter kleinkinders. Mev. Alida du Toit (91) kan net dankie sê vir al die belangstelling wat die 90 jariges ontvang. Sy het 2 dogters, 4 kleinkinders en 4 agter kleinkinders. Mnr Koos Grobbelaar sê dankie aan ons Hemelse Vader vir die krag wat hy vir hom gee. Hy wil ook graag vir sy 3 kinders dankie sê wat hom so bystaan en ondersteun. Mnr. Piet Kruger, die oudste inwoner van die Tuiste is van mening dat al die 90 jariges en ouer wenners is. Op 28 Desember 2015 vier tannie Spies haar 90 ste verjaarsdag. Sy woon in ‘n woonstel op die terrein en is onafhanklik. Mev. Derksen vertel dat oud word nie kinderspeletjies is nie. As jy jonk is wil jy graag oud wees, maar jy weet nie wat die lewe vir jou inhou nie. Mev. Stassen is van mening dat sy maar saam met die pyne en ellende leef, en dit maar so moet aanvaar.

Daar is tien kinders van alle rasse tussen die ouderdom van 0 en 18 jaar, tans hier tuis. Meeste van die kinders is van hul ouers verwyder as gevolg van mishandeling, verwaarlosing en verwerping. Huidiglik bestaan daar vyf sataliet kinderhuise, wat nege en vyftig kinders in die Oos Rand versorg. Golden Buffalo Spur staan vir familie en hul streef daarna om nou betrokke te wees by die versorging van minderbevoorregtes. Hulle het verlede week die Villa Liberi se kinders genooi vir ‘n verrassende masker kerspartytjie. Umephi Villa Liberi kinderhuis gaan ‘n visvang kompetisie hou vanaf 5 - 6 Maart 2016. Hul doen ‘n beroep op die gemeenskap se ondersteuning en vra borge vir die kompetisie. Subsidies wat die kinderhuis ontvang is nie voldoende en daarom die oproep om hulp. Alle fondse sal vir die kinderhuis aangewend word.

It is snake season! We are well into the Spring season and the weather is nice and warm. This also means that snakes will now be up and about, after a long period of hibernation, hungry and in search of food. From mid-August until late May it is snake season, and the City of Ekurhuleni wishes to caution pet owners to be on high alert and keep an eye on their domestic pets as they may fall prey to snakes. A number of snakes which are harmless to humans, such as the brown house snake, Arora house snake, olive house snake and red-lipped snake are likely to be found in backyard gardens searching for food like rats and cats. Due to their harmless and less defensive nature, these species tend to be easily killed or captured as pets, an illegal and punishable act if one does not have a legal permit.
Meanwhile, snakes such the puff adder and rinkhals are extremely dangerous, with the puff adder known to be very instinctive, slow in pace and quick to sense danger. The rinkhals or ring-necked cobra is a fast moving multi feeder which is good at faking death. It is easily identified by the two white stripes that are visible across its neck when it spreads its hood. Things to do when you come across a snake: Give the snake a right of way. You can scream and shout but don’t jump or move. Keep a distance of about 5 meters from the snake as some snakes can spit poison. Watch where the snake ends up so as to assist to locate the reptile once you’ve contacted an expert. Do not try to kill the snake, trying to kill the snake may lead to the danger of snake bites. Call for help.

GRENUPP wholeheartedly welcomes the swift intervention of the Nigel Senior Magistrate, on November 27, when approached by concerned residents, of Marievale, after the Dunnottor Military Base, decided, out of the blue and from know where, to flex their muscles and exhibit their arrogance, by means of digging tranches in all mayor entrances and exit points surrounding the living quarters of an isolated, peaceful compound inherit by the poorest of the poor. SA deelnemers Nigel jukskei klub spog met ‘n aantal junior spelers, wat aan die Suid Afrikaanse kampioenskappe te Kroonstad gaan deelneem. Die spelers het in skool verband goed presteer en het na hierdie liga deurgedring
tot die Oos Gauteng span. Hierdie span gaan vanaf 2 tot 8 Desember in Kroonstad deelneem teen die ander provinsies van Suid Afrika. Die spelers het die afgelope twee maande op Saterdae geoefen en klub liga gespeel om jukskei fiks te word en voorbereid te wees vir die Suid Afrikaanse kampioenskap. Dit is ‘n hoogtepunt vir die spelers om vir ‘n week lank elke dag sowat 5 wedstryde te speel. Elke provinsie Hennie en Rina Wirths, Madelein Stephens en Nathan Watsan die afrigters saam kompeteer om die beste atmosfeer te skep met die span van Nigel wat aan die SA’s gaan deelneem. met hul kreet en dan ook die boodskappe van aanmoediging wat oor die lug uitgesaai word.
