Think what you want to be From the desk of Rev Ray Goddess To say it has been hot is probably the biggest understatement this year. But have you noticed that whenever we greet each other we seem to always greet with some or other reference to the heat.
Everyone has those shady areas in the garden where nothing grows, or at least they think, nothing can grow. Well the good news is that of course there are things that can grow there and we’ve got two gorgeous annuals for you to use, not independently, but together. Begonia semperflorens or bedding begonias and its numerous cultivars, and its well suited companion, coleus or more commonly known as “Flame Nettle” or “Painted Leaf ”, are just the thing to brighten up those dull areas in the garden.
AVOIDING MISUNDERSTANDINGS & COMPLAINTS Disclosure of information at application and annual renewal The most important issue in any insurance contract is honest disclosure! What are we doing? We are reminding each other that it is hot and our mind immediately “remembers” just how hot it is. I was speaking to someone the other day and she opened the conversation with “I love this heat”. I felt like asking her is she was sick! But the fact is that there are some who enjoy the heat. I asked her what she does in winter when it is cold and she answered honestly “I moan”. Let us turn away from the heat and turn to something else. Our church is fasting at the moment and many folk make interesting comments at this time. Those who struggle often complain when they are offered something that they are fasting. The reason is that they are struggling with the temptation (part of the fasting process) and they do not want to be reminded of what they cannot have. What about Monday mornings? Many folk wake up cursing the Monday and this ends up being the catalyst into cursing the day. The fact is that we CAN enjoy work and we CAN enjoy Mondays. So what is the point of all this. What I would like to share at the beginning of 2016 is that we are what we think we are. Let me explain. If you keep on moaning about the heat and if you are constantly reminded of the heat you will also constantly think about the heat. If you think about the heat you will take note of the heat and be more aware of the heat and you will be extra hot. You know it is hot and we all know that it is hot so why torture ourselves by

Face facts, if you read a book or think about other things or do your work time ticks by and you suddenly realize that an hour has passed and it is still so hot but the heat has not bothered you because you have not been thinking about it. If you are trying not to participate in something (could be as a result of a fast or a decision that you have made eg a diet) then try not to be in the presence of that temptation. It is easier not to eat cake when there is no cake. It does not help going to a cake party and seeing everyone eating cake. If you have no option but to go to an event like this take something else that is within what you can eat and what you like…. And then tell yourself how nice it is going to be and NOT it would be so nice to have a piece of cake. When you wake up on a Monday morning (or in fact on any day) wake up with a positive mind, spend some time with God and then ENJOY THE DAY. You see…we are what we want to be……have a blessed 2016.

Residents welcome the rain! South African Weather Services (SAWS) is warning on flash floods due to heavy rain expected in the next few days and over the weekend around Gauteng Province. Localised flooding is anticipated in different areas around the province. As heavy rain is anticipated, rivers, canals and streams might experience high volume of water which might result in flash floods. Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services Department (DEMS) would also like to caution the residents around the City be on high alert for such. Parents are encouraged to be on high alert and make sure that their children are safe at all time. The low lying areas are always subjected to flooding and people are advised to take extra precautions as flash floods are prominent. Residents are advised to take the following Safety Tips into account. Avoid crossing swollen water streams, canals and flooded rivers. Advice children not to play in flash flooded areas. Parents should ensure that children‘s routes to school are safe. If possible parents should accompany their children to school. More over the prescholars and primary aged. Motorists should avoid flooded subways. If trapped in flooding while in the vehicle, abandon it and climb to higher ground. If river bridges are covered by flooding water, turn back and use alternative routes. Never drive over the bridge covered by flooding water. YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW DEEP IT IS OR IF THE ROAD HAS BEEN WASHED AWAY. During the night, flooded areas are not clearly seen, be vigilant. Those in the low lying areas can excavate canals that divert floods away from homes. Usage of sand bags/sacks to channel flash floods away from homes. Residents are advised to listen to the radios and watch television for warnings on the weather and to adhere to the safety tips from the officials.

Galatians 6:7 Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. (NLT) The principle of sowing and reaping is as old as the earth itself. From the very beginning it was in operation and up until today still stands. Principles are unchanging laws that govern life on earth regardless of whether we believe in them or not. The principle of sowing and reaping states that we will harvest whatever we sow. Jesus explains the fruit that God’s Word will bear in our lives along the lines of this principle in Luke 8:5. When we receive the Word, the condition of our hearts is a determining factor in the fruit we will see as a result of the seed sown. Jesus identif ies the following different types of soil or heart conditions in which seed can be sown: • Hard soil (Luke 8:5; 12): The soil in the footpath speaks of hardened harts that are unreceptive to the Word and so loses it before it can benefit from it. This happens when we are far from God or so familiar with God that we do not live in a place of expectation and dependence on God. • Rocky soil (Luke 8:6; 13): Rocky soil speaks of hearts that receive the Word with joy and excitement but without the relational substance that is needed to sustain it in the face of challenges. Our hearts change only in the presence of God. Without an intimate relationship with the Lord, we do not have the capacity to bring about the permanent change required to bear the kind of fruit God wants to see in our lives. • Thorn-infested soil (Luke 8:7; 14): In order for the Word to bear fruit in our lives, we have to let go of all other things. Unlike good seeds, weeds and thorns grow without much effort. Likewise we are prone to focus on earthly cares, riches and desires rather than the things of God. When we are consumed by these things it chokes the Word that leads us in the plan and purpose of God for our lives so that in the end we have nothing but the weeds and thorns we allowed to consume our thinking and ultimately also our actions. • Good soil (Luke 8:8; 15): Good soil refers to hearts that are not only receptive to the seed of the Word, but also deeply connected in relationship with God and pure of all other distractions. In this condition we can receive the Word of God and allow it to take root in and change our very being. When we consider the principle of sowing and reaping it is important to take note of the following so that we can see and
experience the kind of harvest God has in mind for us: • Sowing is a prerequisite for reaping: Without seed in the ground there is no potential for a harvest. Regardless of the position we f ind ourselves in, we can always sow. When we trust God for supernatural harvests, we have to demonstrate that faith by sowing in accordance. Many times God provides us with the potential for the very thing we trust Him for. In order to see the actual harvest, we have to sow the seed instead of holding on to it or even using it. The Bible provides us with excellent examples in this regard – in the Old Testament Abraham had to ‘sow’ Isaac in order to become the father of multitudes, in the New Testament the little food available had to be given up or ‘sown’ in order for Jesus to feed a multitude (Mark 8:1-10). • The harvest corresponds to what was sown: In the beatitudes Jesus teaches that whoever sows mercy, will themselves also find mercy (Matthew 5:7). In the physical realm we also see that a specific seed yields a harvest in accordance with its type – an apple seed will produce an apple tree. • The harvest is in proportion to the seed sown: The size of any given harvest is directly proportional to the original investment (2 Corinthians 9:6). • The harvest is exponential to what was sown: One seed has unlimited capacity (Matthew 13:8). Once sown it will always yield more than what was originally sown. The Bible teaches us that once seed has fallen into the ground, rain is required to make it grow (Genesis 2:5). As in the physical realm, we also require the rain of God to fall on our hearts in order to make the Word grow and bear fruit in our lives. Without the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we cannot respond to the Word or change. Our fruit is completely dependent on our connection to the Lord and His supernatural work in our hearts and lives (John 15:4). In order to step into abundance of fruit, we have to make a conscious decision to sow and then to trust God for rain! Join us this year as we not only position ourselves to be fruitful by abiding in the Lord, but also trust Him to send the rain so that we can see in 2016 a manifestation of the abundance of God in every single area of our existence. May 2016 be for you a year of seeing the dream and destiny of God for your life taking shape before your very eyes!

Class of 2015 The Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni Cllr Mondli Gungubele says the future of the city and that of the country is promising judging by the recent matric results. Gungubele congratulated the Gauteng class of 2015 for obtaining an 84.2% pass rate and encouraged them to aim for the stars as they venture into higher education and training. “The future of the country really looks bright. We have observed that our children have excelled in their matric exams and this can only translate into a better and much improved South Africa,” he pointed. “Education is the answer to most of our problems as a country. It provides clarity on many issues and ensure that the business do not lose focus as a country even during the diff icult times of the struggle for liberation.” The mayor praised Ekurhuleni South district for winning the most improved district category. The district chalked up 83.1% in 2015.

My wife and I went on the 28th of December 2015 to this office to apply for our new South African ID Cards as well as our new South African Passports. Bear in mind this is the Monday after the Christmas weekend. The Nigel Home Affairs Offices opened at 8h00 on this day. The local Off ice Manager, Ms Chanell Minnaar welcomed
us personally at the entrance and immediately asked how they could be of assistance. Bekende stem stil
Een van die grootste bome van Nigel is afgekap. Oom Frikkie van der Westhuizen gebore op 22 Maart 1926 is op 17 Desember 2015 oorlede. Oom Frikkie is alreeds 40 jaar lank ‘n inwoner van Nigel gewees. Hy was werksaam by Union Carrige vir 35 jaar en was bekend vir sy harde werk. Hy was ouderling in die kerk en op die gholfbane triomfeer hy as senior kampioen. Sy vriendelikheid het almal om hom geraak en altyd gelag vir sy sê goed. Nou is sy stem vir altyd stil…. Die kanker het sy tol geëis en op 17 Desember 2015 is Frikkie oorlede, nadat hy moedig teen die kanker geveg het. Op 5 Januarie is die herinnerings diens in NG Kerk, Nigel Suid, gehou. Die kerk was stampvol met meer as 200 mense en Ds Pieter Kruger het die diens waargeneem. Sy heengaan word diep betreur deur sy weduwee Marie, sy kinders en kleinkinders.
Sportseun 2015 Karlu Stander. Hy verwerf die trofee vir Junior Jukskei seun van die jaar 2015. Hy het in Kroonstad vir Oos Gauteng se o/13 A span deelgeneem en het 4de plek in die Suid Afrikaanse kampioenskappe behaal. Hy het vir die atletiekklub aan die Suid Afrikaanse kampioenskappe deelgeneem tussen 1400 atlete en 33 streke op Herman Immelman stadion te Germiston, waar hy seuns o/8 3de plek behaal in die 80 en 60 meter.
