Life imprisonment The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) welcomed the life sentences given to a former police officer for raping his daughter who was nine years old at the time. “No other child would be safe around the father who had committed the despicable and monstrous crime. The verdict is a bef itting sentence for a father who had betrayed the trust and confidence of his own daughter by robbing her of her childhood and innocence,” SANCO National Spokesperson,Jabu Mahlangu said. Mahlangu said that the sentence will serve as deterrent for perpetrators of gender based violence against girl-children because justice was finally served. “It will also encourage victims who are suffering in silence to speak out for the law to take its course,” he said. The former Krugersdorp police officer, who cannot be named to protect the child’s identity, was sentenced on Wednesday after being convicted of repeatedly raping his daughter at home between 2009 and 2010. According to the National Prosecuting Agency (NPA), the accused pleaded not guilty and disputed every aspect of the child’s testimony, leading to the five year long trial and the victim suffering severe depression and a number of suicide attempts. “The victim has had several consultations and assessments with relevant professio-
nals, as well as a victim impact report that played an important role in assisting the court to determine the appropriate sentence to impose the accused,” said NPA Spoke-person, Phindi Louw. Statistics shows that 44% of victims are under the age 18 and 80% are under age 30. There is an average of 293,066 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year. Every 107 seconds, another sexual assault occurs. Reporting to Police: 68% of sexual assaults are not reported to the police and 98% of rapists will never spend a day in jail. Approximately 4/5 of assaults are committed by someone known to the victim and 47% of rapists are a friend or acquaintance. 15% of sexual assault and rape victims are under age 12, 29% are age 12-17, 44% are under age 18 and 80% are under age 30. Girls ages 16-19 are 4 times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault. 7% of girls in grades 5-8 and 12% of girls in grades 9-12 said they had been sexually abused. 3% of boys grades 5-8 and 5% of boys in grades 9-12 said they had been sexually abused. Will life sentences be the answer? Rape, sexual abuse or sexual assault is something happening everyday, everywhere, it is time to do something about it!

Sal my betrokkenheid enige verskil aan my saligheid maak aldan nie? Hierdie vraag moet mens maar self antwoord en dan volstaan by die voor en nadele van so ‘n
besluit.

Besoek my huis Vader en bring volkome herstel.

Genesis 12. Uitendelik vervang tradisies jou geloof in God! 5. Jou familie. 6. Jou geestelike gemaksone. Hier word my gewete al vir jare gesus. My godsdiens, of die gebrek

Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light (NKJV). Having an excellent team is important in any area where conquest is desired. Even in the World, this principle has been widely taught and practiced. An individual without a team has no clout, no sustainability and hardly any voice in the bigger picture. To the extent that a team can be mobilized, a dream can be realized… Team by implication denotes unifying around a common goal. In saying ‘yes’ to a particular thing, we always say ‘no’ to something else. When a team unites around a shared, agreed-upon goal, they become a powerful force against anything that can damage or oppose the cause they stand and work for. Within the context of a pre-determined goal, diversity and different skill sets become an asset that regardless of the differences, work together towards the final outcome. An excellent example of this is found in Genesis 11:1-9 where humanity united in their quest to build the tower of Babel. God’s response to their resolution clearly indicates the tremendous power locked up in having a unified team. In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus invites us to become part of His team. He poses this beautiful offer in response to seeing how weary and overburdened the people around Him were. When we place ourselves under God’s yoke, making His dream our dream, His goal what we live for, His way of doing our way of doing, we partake of the blessing of being part of His team – bearing an easy yoke and a light burden. Just like oxen placed in a yoke do the work together instead of each one on their own, God wants us to yoke-up together in pursuit of achieving the Kingdom-dream that none should perish and all be saved. Being yoked together requires of us to know who we are in relation to the other team members and also to learn and
understand who we are yoked up with. In this process a multitude of strengths can be applied to conquer individual weaknesses and jointly achieve a goal that could never be reached by any one member of the team on their own. In order for us to enter into the rest God has for us, He wants us to take up His yoke exclusively. His way of doing, unpolluted and undiluted by any of our own opinions or preferences. In order to do this it is of crucial importance that we should position ourselves to learn His way of doing. Being a member of a cell group, attending church, training and encounter weekend provides us with invaluable training in this regard. As we receive the Word and align our way of thinking and doing with the standard set out in the Word, we can become unified in the way we do life. Teamwork is always compromised where personal agendas are mixed into the team goal (Proverbs 18:1). It is the joint goal, the one dream that creates a common sense of frustration and desperation to change and grow in all the team members. Growth and change is the natural outflow of frustration. Deliberate growth towards a pre-determined goal, sets us up for breakthrough in that it inspires specific, joint action that can take us forward. In the Kingdom, there is tremendous power in praying together. God responds to and answers Word-based, faith-filled, fervent prayer (James 5:16). He commands His blessing wherever there is unity (Matthew 18:19). A team united in prayer, will also find themselves united in action. Be encouraged this week to yoke yourself up with a team that has given all their burdens and heavy loads to the Lord in order to take up His burden and His soft yoke. Join us as an active, participating team member as we push back darkness, pray and actively work towards bringing in the multitudes!

Involvement of Arrested police in crime The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) said that the involvement of police in crime undermines the confidence that the public has on law enforcement. This follows the arrest of two Cape Town police officers on house robbery charges. “We condemn in the strongest terms possible the alleged involvement of the two police officers in crime. Efforts need to be intensified to rid the police service of those who are terrorising our communities instead of protecting them,” SANCO National Spokesperson, Jabu Mahlangu said. Mahlangu called for the immediate suspension of the two police officers aged 42 and 43 one of whom was nabbed while on duty and the other at home. “Police who are involved in crime are a disgrace to the dignified blue uniform because they are undermining the pledge they had taken to protect and serve,” he said. He said that the war against crime must first be won within the police service before it could be won in communities.
Two male suspects aged 35 and 40 were arrested for car hijacking along the R550 Nigel Road at Rooikraal Farming area. Apparently on April 7 a 63 year old victim was driving his white Ford Ranger Club Cub along the R42 road joining the N17. The owner of the Ford drove in the direction of Mpumalanga when a silver VW Polo flicked lights to him. It is alleged that he stopped at the side of the road. Two males climbed out of the silver VW Polo and requested directions to Standerton. While giving them directions one suspect pulled out his car keys and ordered him to go into the club cab. After driving with him for a while they forced him in the silwer Polo driving along the R550. They were stopped by the Metro Police, after the police noticed the vehicle without a registration number plate. The suspects ordered the old man to alight from the vehicle. The victim got a chance to inform Ekurhuleni Metro Police about the hijacking of his white Ford Ranger few minutes ago. Police immediately surrounded the vehicle and arrested the suspects. The other 2 drove off with the Ford Ranger.

Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Cllr Mondli Gungubele has condemned and described as ‘barbaric’ the killing of a woman and four children in the Tsakane area. A woman aged 32 and children aged between 12 and 2 were found dead with their throats slit in their house in Tsakane Extension 5. “This is a very barbaric incident and whoever is behind this must be arrested as soon as possible and locked away for a long time. Who in their right mind would murder so many people in such a horrible manner?” said Gungubele. “I am still trying to recover from this shock. In fact, as a parent I have shivers going down my spine when I try to imagine that scene.” Gungubele has appealed to the community to work with the police in finding those behind the crime.

World Bank R12 Beds fit for Wonderland billion funding The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) welcomed the World Bank’s R12 billion guarantee to shore up Eskom’s power transmission infrastructure as confidence in South Africa’s economy. “The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (Miga) funding will eliminate the disruptive impact load shedding has had on business operations, traffic, industry, mining operations, commerce, hospitals and the daily lives of the South African public ,” SANCO National Spokesperson, Jabu Mahlangu said. Mahlangu said that the targeted integration of renewable energy into the country’s grid and 255km of new transmission lines
added through the funding will accelerate the electrifucation programme for informal settlements and rural communities. “The funding Eskom has secured through the political risk insurance and credit enhancement arm of the World Bank Group will boost the country’s economic turnaround for growth and job retention particilarly in the mining and manufacturing sectors,” he said. Eskom CEO Brian Molefe said that the power utility is pleased to have Miga’s support for the complex financing that is crucial to the country’s development. “Miga’s credit enhancement has allowed us to secure euro-denominated funding for longer tenure and on more favourable terms,” Molefe said.
Call on authorities to intensify drunken driving operations The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) urged authorities to intensify drunken driving operations following the arrest of 913 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol over the Easter weekend. “The zero tolerance road traff ic law enforcement that contributed towards decrease of road fatalities by 46% must be sustained to reduce drunken driving that accounts for 89% of the country’s fatal crashes,” SANCO National Spokesperson, Jabu Mahlangu said in applauding the decline. Mahlangu called on authorities to redouble efforts to reduce the backlog of blood alcohol samples to ensure that cases against motorists arrested for drunken driving are speedily processed through
court processes. “Blood alcohol results are crucial to secure convictions and harsh sentences that include suspension of driving licenses that will serve as deterrent to other road users,” he said. He stressed that the current backlog at the four forensic chemistry laboratories which leads to provisional withdrawal of drunken driving cases on court rolls increases the perception that there is no justice, since other road users are not seeing justice being immediately served on offenders. Mahlangu commended road users who heeded the call for responsible driver behaviour over the Easter weekend for playing their part to reduce the carnage on public roads.
Managing your credit score Your credit score is an important part of your financial prof ile. It is what helps banks, finance companies and other credit providers decide if they should lend you money. If you have a low credit score you will be considered high risk and as a result you may not be given a loan or you could be charged a higher interest rate to compensate for the additional risk, explains Direct Axis’ marketing head Marlies Kappers. Credit bureaus calculate credit scores, but this doesn’t mean you’re not able to do anything about managing your score. Here are some tips that could help you avoid a low credit rating or maintain a good one. Check your credit report: South Africans are entitled to a free credit report each year. You can get one from any of the major credit bureaus. It will tell you your score and more importantly you can check for any mistakes. Make sure there are no late payments listed incorrectly and that the amount owed on each credit account is correct. Pay on time: Your payment record has a significant influence on your credit score. Even paying a few days late can negatively influence your rating. If you have to make regular payments, consider setting up a debit order so you
don’t risk forgetting about or missing a payment. Alternatively put a reminder in your diary or calendar. Reduce what you owe: Use the credit report to list all your debts. Arrange these according to the interest rates charged on each. Try to pay off the ones with the highest interest rates first, while maintaining the minimum payments on your other accounts. Pay off debt rather than moving it around: Limit revolving debt such as credit cards. Don’t apply for credit cards or open store accounts to increase your available credit as this could lower your credit scores. Tell creditors if you have a problem: Keeping your creditors informed if you’re having difficulties won’t rebuild your credit score, but if you can negotiate a payment schedule your score should improve over time. Outstanding debts will stay on your record: Making any payments or paying it off completely won’t clear your credit record, but will improve your credit score. Be aware though that information about your payment prof ile can stay on your record for up to five years. Closing an account doesn’t make the payment history go away and it may still be reflected on your credit score.
If you’ve watched Alice in Wonderland, whenever you see violas or snapdragons, surely you’re reminded of the colourful chorus when all the flowers come to life to serenade Alice! And who can resist squishing the ‘cheeks’ of a snapdragon to make it ‘sing’?! The striking appearances of these animated blossoms make them a wonderful edging or border plant combo. Their blooms, intricate and colourful, and neither are very leggy, so will stand neat and straight along borders. Both plants thrive in cooler temperatures, tolerating frost rather than extreme heat, making them a perfect autumn or spring companion. Planted en masse, these plants produce an overwhelming colour statement, the purple and blue hued violas would look especially striking against a background of yellow and orange snapdragons. Their wonderful colour combinations enhance these flowers’ ‘facial’ characteristics, especially the ‘lips’ of the snapdragons and the ‘mouths’ of the violas. Viola Violas have been around since the 1860s, allowing them to be propagated into more than 500 varieties. Although they’re thought of as the little cousin of the pansy, due to their daintier blooms, violas outdo their cousins by being more floriferous bloomers. Being edible, they also add a beautiful flourish to salads. Location: Violas prefer to peep their pretty ‘faces’ out of more shady spots, so they will love being in the shade provided by the loftier snaps. They are herbaceous yet hardy annuals and mature at a height and width of about 15cm. Plant your seedlings about 20cm apart. Watering: For the best performance, water
thoroughly about once a week, depending on rainfall. As it’s getting chilly, try not to wet their petals or leaves, water the surrounding soil rather. Care: Off with their heads! Well, dead ones anyway; allowing them to focus their energy on creating new blooms. Violas prefer soil rich in organic matter with plenty of leaf-mould or well-rotted manure, so compost before planting. If the weather is too warm, throw a nice insulating blanket of mulch over the soil around them keeping their feet cool and their faces happy. Keep an eye out for slugs, snails or aphids who also enjoy a bit of viola in their salads. Snapdragon When pairing these two, opt for the medium to tall varieties of snaps in order to shade the shorter violas, as snaps prefer being planted in full sun. Snaps range in height from the dwarf varieties of 15cm up to the loftiest snaps of 120cm. Plant the green plants without blooms, allowing the plants to develop stronger roots before expending their energy on creating their intricate blooms. Find a balanced watering regime as snaps enjoy moist but not water logged soil. Don’t plant them too close together as they like a fair amount of air flowing around them, all the better to show off those multibloom stems. Pot Choice Bacopa is a wonderful spreading plant with cascading stems covered in masses of dainty flowers. These perfect f ive-petal blooms are reminiscent of strawberry blossoms, with their common names likening them to snowflakes. Growing to heights of about 15 to 20cm, plant in fertile soil in full sun or partial shade.

What to do after a car accident that’s not your fault Few things equal the frustration and inconvenience of someone running into your car. It sets off a chain reaction of phone calls, insurance quotes, panel beaters and rental cars, not to mention having to pay the excess on your insurance. While all of the above is unavoidable, you can make it easier on yourself by following some basic rules. Dealing with your car insurance company after a crash can be a -challenge, even for the calmest individual. However, it is vital that you don’t lose your cool; you need to be methodical and meticulously record everything that happened. By sticking to the rules, you will increase your chances of a success-ful claim and may even get your excess back.
Major Bluegum View community sports centre to be rolled-out soon to eliminate high rate of crime and sedentary behaviour within the area. Virtue Corporate Group is a non profit organization exists from February 2014, aimed to work collectively with different stakeholders in the program of corporate social responsibility to ensure that we constructively contribute towards building and enhancing the quality of life of the people in the disadvantaged community we operate. The organization currently has 53 chronic beneficiaries and 64 disadvantaged youth involved in different sports codes, exercising from Monday to Saturday to maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet. According to research conducted by Clement Khumalo reveals that “social factors such as unemployment, vulnerable families, alcohol, drugs and failure to uphold safety as a right destroys youth future.” “Our objective is to identify and develop the talent that is hidden in young people from historically disadvantaged communities and make use of sport to motivate youth that is deeply involved in crime and substance abuse” says Clement Khumalo. Virtue Corporate Group Management approached Mr.Alan Blumenfeld gym manufacturing company (origin fitness) to help them with gym equipment and erect temporally structure to their site. Therefore, origin f itness developed comprehensive structure that features
conference hall, gym hall, reception, kitchen, toilets, psychologist, doctor and physiotherapist offices. Alan concluded by outlining the benefits of the sports saying “sport is a vital element in every young person’s development, in that it promotes positive educational and health outcomes. It can be a powerful agent for changes in communities.” The operation of the centre will create a variety of economic opportunities for Bluegum View residents. Accident
The first thing you need to do after the accident is gather information. The driver who crashed into your car is responsible for reporting the accident to his or her car insurance company. However, you will need to make sure you contact your insurer with all relevant information pertaining to the accident as well. If you don’t report it to your insurer within the prescribed period, you may not be able to claim, even if the accident was not your fault or the damage to your car was negligible. Motorists who cause accidents are sometimes reluctant to report them, so make sure you get all their details so you can report everything to your insurer and the police. You need to try to get complete information on the other party at the accident scene. This includes their name and surname, tele-phone numbers, address, insurance company name and policy information. Also take note of the registration number of the other vehicle – check this number against the licence disc just in case. If possible, ask for the details of witnesses at the scene of the accident, and gather as much photographic evidence as possible. Most phones have cameras today; pictures are helpful for your insurance company, because they can be used to claim back money from the other party’s insurance. Try to notify all relevant parties of the accident within 24 hours. This includes your insurer, the police and the other party’s insurance company. If they don’t have insurance, your insurer will attempt to claim from them directly, but don’t worry - you will still be paid out if you abide by your insurer’s terms and conditions.
An accident accured at the Four-way stop sigh in Shalimar Ridge, Heidelberg after a white Mercedes Benz was hit on the left side by a silwer grey VW Polo. It is alleged that the white Mercedes was travelling along Schoeman Street. According to Heidelberg SAPS the Polo was on a high speed and jumped the stop sign. Both drivers escaped unharmed and passangers in the Mercedes sustained pains. They were treated by paramedics.
The police will determine who is at fault for ticketing purposes, but they may not even issue a ticket. The insurer will make its own de-ter-mination of fault, which may or may not match the police report. Try to avoid saying anything that could jeopar-dise your claim; the less you say the better. Stick to conversations about insurance details. Trying to discuss or analyse the accident may compromise your claim. When it comes to repairs, never go ahead with them on your own; the insurance company will ask you to submit three quotes or may refer you to one of their -approved panel beaters. Also make sure that the insurer has accepted liability before going ahead with repairs. Get that authorisation in writing, and ask the insurer or your broker to email you the confir-mation. It is important to note that the more expensive your car, the higher the excess will be.

Try to find some value in what you do. Focus on aspects of the job that you do enjoy—even if it’s just chatting with your coworkers at lunch. Changing your attitude towards your job can help you regain a sense of purpose and control. Find balance in your life. If your job or career isn’t what you want, find meaning and satisfaction elsewhere. Try to be grateful for having work that pays the bills and focus on the parts of your life that bring you joy. Volunteer—at work and outside of work. Every boss appreciates an employee who volunteers for a new project. Make friends at work. Having strong ties in the workplace can help reduce monotony and avoid burnout. Having friends to chat and joke with during the day can help relieve the stress of an unfulfilling job, improve your job performance, or simply get you through a rough day.
