Retailers flock to Springs Mall Springs Mall at Blue Crane Eco Park is already over 90% let some eight months before it opens in 2017, when it will introduce a retail experience unlike anything on Gauteng’s East Rand. The 48,000sqm world-class new regional mall asset under development in Springs, Ekurhuleni, represents a substantial R950 million investment. The mall project is the brainchild of the Springs-based D’Arrigo family and is a joint-venture between Blue Crane Eco Mall (Pty) Ltd, leading shopping centre developers and leasing specialists Flanagan & Gerard Property Development & Investment, JSE-listed retail focused
REIT Vukile Property Fund and Murinda Investments, which is part of the Giuricich Bros Group. Springs doesn’t currently have a major mall, so it is no surprise that leading retail brands have set their sights on securing space at the iconic new Springs Mall. “The response has been phenomenal,” says Paul Gerard of Flanagan & Gerard Property Development & Investment. “Retailers have identif ied the great business opportunity the mall creates in the area. The strong take-up of space highlights retailer confidence in Springs Mall and the spending power of the region.”
Anchor tenants at Springs Mall include Woolworths, Checkers, Pick n Pay and Edgars. Springs Mall will offer something for everyone, with a wide shopping and leisure experience. It will also have a particularly strong and appealing fashion focus across its two levels of top-notch retail. Fashion brands opening at the mall include South African favourites Truworths, Foschini, Legit, Exact, Donna Claire, Milady’s, Identity, Contempo, Pick n Pay Clothing, Jet, Ackermans, Pep, Fashion Express, Jam Clothing, and Mr Price.
Leading men’s fashion will be offered by Bogart Man, Kurt Geiger and Markham. Children will be well dressed with Soda Block. There will also be a great selection of apparel for sports and the outdoors from Cape Union Mart, Due South, Mr Price Sport, Old Khaki, The Cross Trainer, Sportscene, Total Sports and Studio 88. Specialist footwear retailers at Springs Mall will include Spitz, Side Step, Green Cross and Shoe City. All this will be complemented with a unique mix of independent clothing boutiques. Gerard reports there’ll be even more fashion variety on offer in the final mix at Springs Mall and that its owners will soon select the next round of apparel tenants, including the mall’s independent boutiques. “With very limited space still available at Springs Mall, now is the time to secure a place.” Destined to become a dominant mall in the region, the new Springs Mall benefits from excellent access off the N17 highway and Wit and Jan Smuts Roads. Top metros The 2015 Gauteng City Region Observatory Quality of Life GCRO QoL survey has placed the City of Ekurhuleni on the number one spot in Gauteng metros after it recorded high levels of satisfaction by its residents. The 2015 GCRO QoL revealed that more than 70 percent of Ekurhuleni residents are generally satisfied with the provision of services in the metro. Over 80 percent of residents are satisfied with water services. More that 70 percent of residents have given the city thumbs up on sanitation services. More that 70 percent residents are happy with the provision of energy services. About 80 percent are content with the provision of waste removal services. While about 49 percent are satisfied with the costs of the municipality, 22 percent have remained neutral. About 60 percent of residents have given the city’s roads a nod. Over 68 percent are happy with the city’s public health facilities.

Rev Goddess, Heidelberg Methodist Church December 2015 our greater family decided to take the money we would have used for Christmas presents and buy a food parcel for a family who was struggling. After making some enquiries we were put in touch with Hannes and Belinda Niemand. We as a family were blessed when we experienced the joy and surprize of the family when we gave the food parcel to them on that Christmas Eve. HMC has got to know the family well and I would like to share Hannes’s story with you. Hannes was in a motor vehicle accident on 29 July resulting in him being confined to a wheel chair for life. He obviously also lost his job as a driver. Life for the Niemand family would never be the same. The struggle was massive with very little income and they started to struggle to survive with Mom, Dad and two great children. Hannes moved around the house in a wheel chair that was far too small for him and also not in a very good condition. They asked if they could come to HMC to worship with us and we arranged for the family to be collected each Sunday. We then approached Rotary Nigel and asked if they could help us with a wheel chair for Hannes. Thanks Rotary, the next day we delivered Hannes’s new chair to his house. Hannes had been offered a job with the same company he worked for and he and his brother “walked” to and from work each day. Sadly Hannes has been retrenched and now sits without work. But the story still carries on. On the 5th June Hannes was very proud to tell me that he had taken 4 steps out of his wheel chair.
12 JULY 2016 I went on leave that week and when I returned to do may first service after my leave HANNES WALKED IN USING CRUTCHES – no wheel chair. This last Sunday he walked into church (difficultly) without crutches at all. We praise God for his healing. The story continues - Hannes made an appointment to come and see me this last Monday. When I got to the office two bicycles were parked outside my office. On entering my office I saw Hannes and his two children sitting waiting for me. To my surprize he told me that they had taken turns to walk and ride from Rensburg to our office to come and see me. THAT TAKES GUTS. Hannes’s meeting was to ask for help. He was struggling to get work and he is behind in his rent. As a church we are helping the family where we can but here is my appeal. If you have ANY position open (he is a CO 2 welder and is computer literate) could you please contact Hannes on 079 535 3660 to arrange for an interview so that you can have a chat to this very brave man. If you cannot offer him a job but would like to help you can deposit money into our outreach and we in turn will use THE ENTIRE donation towards their rental and life survival. Food production under threat On the current food production trajectory, we will lose the battle for a food-secure world. If declining production trends continue as a result of continued disease challenges, changing production practices and the removing of innovation from some parts of the world, our farmers won’t be able to meet the increasing global demand for more animal protein such as milk, meat and eggs. The ENOUGH™ movement is spearheaded by Elanco Animal Health, a global innovation-driven company that develops and markets products to improve animal health and food animal production in more than 75 countries. According to ENOUGH, there are four realities that are shaping the world’s food supply: population, resource use, health and perspective. In South Africa, only 0.04% of total land is under certified organic management. We must keep actively pursuing other options to make sure the world is fed. “With the rapidly expanding middle class there will be a 60% increase in demand for meat, eggs and milk. This means that we have to find a way to increase supply to meet demand and provide it sustainably,” explains Andre Westerveld, Regional Director of Elanco South Africa. Milk is just one practical example of food production that is already under constraint. Right now, per capita milk production
around the world already cannot meet basic nutritional needs, and the gap could grow. According to the Enough™ report, the global recommended milk intake is two, 240 ml glasses of milk per day, and on average around the world, we have access to about one. Today, one cow produces an average of 7.5 liters of milk per day. But in leading areas, it’s more than 26 liters per day. However, innovation is questioned when it’s linked to food,” says Andre. Tariffs increases come to effect as July 1 mark the beginning of the municipal financial year. Ekurhuleni’s assessment rates will increase by 7.5%, lower than the average rate increase of other metros of 8.1%. Based on Nersa’s approval, the electricity tariff increase is in between 7.64% to 9.4%, depending on the consumption level. Other increases are as follows: Water tariff will increase by 9%; Sanitation will increase by 9%; Refuse removal goes up by 8%, for both business and residential. There is 0% increase in cemetery fees for Ekurhuleni residents, but 10% for non-residents. “Having listened to our people’s cries about the rate of night vigil tariffs for traditional churches and non-prof it organisations, we have reduced the tariff from R900 to R450 per hour,” Finance MMC Moses Makwakwa said.

Kan jy jou ‘n boot sonder ‘n behoorlike anker voorstel? As die wind loei en die see onstuimig raak, sal so ‘n boot reddeloos rond dobber en selfs sink. Vreemd genoeg is daar mense wie se lewensbote ankerloos is. Wat sou van hulle word as die lewenstorms opsteek en hulle met ondergang bedreig? Mense wend hulle na baie verskillende lewensankers. Party vind gerusstelling in geld en rykdom. Ander plaas hulle vertroue in mag en invloed. Daar is ook diegene wat op geleerdheid of eie insig en vermoë staatmaak. Waarop berus jou vertroue in jou besondere omstandighede? As verlostes is ons ware anker nie ‘n middel of ‘n ideologie nie. Dis ‘n bonatuurlike wese: God self – in die persoon van sy seun Jesus Christus! Hy het die ergste storm denkbaar – toorn, sonde en die dood – terwille van ons, nou sy kinders, trotseer en oormeester. Hy is nou in ons boot as beide die stuurman en die anker. Wat ‘n gerusstelling! Die storms en die see waarop ons vaar, is geheel aan Hom onderworpe. Ons is wel nie van alles gevrywaar nie, maar dit hoef nie meer vir ons lewensbedreigend te wees nie. Hy is ons Vrede, te midde van ongunstige omstandighede. Wat omtrent Hom, ons Anker, gee ons soveel vertroue? Drie dinge. Hy is ‘n werklikheid – Hy leef! Op Patmos verklaar Hy: Ek is die Begin en die Einde. Ek was dood, maar kyk Ek leef. (Op. 1:18). Hy is nie dood nie. Ek juig want Hy leef! Halleluja! Hy leef met sy Goddelike volheid in my deur die Gees. (Kol. 2:9) Iemand vra: If God is dead, then what’s this living in my heart?

Matthew 3:16 After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. 17 - And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” (NLT) In the heart of God, there was never a moment’s hesitation when it came to humanity – before the foundations of the earth, He loved us, chose us and planned masterfully how He would adopt us into His family (Ephesians 1:4-6). From the very start His love was such that it came to us, ultimately in the manifest form of Jesus. We never had to search for it or try to find or earn the love of God. Love chose us, came to us and accepted us regardless of our history or achievement. Just as in the time of Israel the love of God is ever-present in our lives, very often in ways that we don’t even recognize or acknowledge (Hosea 11:1-12). It is this, the sacred love of our Father that stands between us and eminent disaster! It is because of His great love for us that we receive the Spirit of adoption that takes us from a place of perpetual fear and slavery to a place of acceptance and belonging in the family of God. The Father chose us when nobody else would. Because of His divine nature He chooses and loves every single one of us as if we are the only one. Receiving this kind of love rules out all need for competition, performance, fear or comparison. His love is such that it causes Him to pay attention to every single one of us all the time. Not only does He lavish this divine love on us, He also empowers us to respond to His love in kind. When He commands us to love Him (Deuteronomy 6:5), He does so because it is in loving Him that we become fully alive. Deuteronomy 30:6 holds the beautiful promise that the Lord will change our hearts and the hearts of our children so that we will love Him completely and so live. Unlike human love, Agape love or divine love speaks of a kind of love that does not rise up spontaneously in response to the object of love. Instead, this kind of love is a constant, preexistent, non-provokable love that exists
completely separate from the person being loved. It does not increase or decrease based on outside factors. Agape love is an expression of the very nature of God – the perfect love that sees worth and something infinitely precious in someone even when it does not exist. It is this love that prompted the Father to reach out to us even when we were undeserving to the point of being His enemies. Experiencing the love of God changes us. The apostle Paul says that everything that used to be of value to him became worthless in comparison to the infinite value of knowing Christ (Philippians 3:7-11), who is the expression of God’s tremendous love for us. Once we receive this unconditional, prodigal kind of love from God, it enables us to love others with this same kind of love (2 Corinthians 1:4). Just like our Father, we become lovers of people as an expression of who we are rather than a reflection of what they did. The beauty of this is that divine love paves the way for us and those we love in this way to become what we have never been. Love that seeks out, that insists on finding value and treating as worthy not only empowers, but also brings into existence the very worth previously absent. Join us and step into love divine, opening up our hearts to the unfathomable, overwhelming love of God towards us whilst at the same time lavising the very same love we received on everybody in our world!

Jou duur sonbril, horlosie en kamera is byvoorbeeld onder huisinhoud gedek terwyl dit in die huis is, maar as jy dit elders vergeet of verloor, sal dit nie gedek wees nie. Hiervoor word daar ook voorsiening gemaak. Vir hierdie tipe skade moet jy alle risiko-versekering uitneem. Omdat die risiko op verlies groter is wanneer die item buite die huis is, word dit dan gespesifiseer en ‘n addisionele premie word daarop betaal. Nog ‘n voorbeeld wat genoem kan word waar die skade nie gedek sal wees nie, is wanneer jou duur videokamera van R6000 (geskatte waarde) val en breek. Die meeste versekeraars sluit outomaties ‘n mate van alle risiko-dekking by hulle huisbewonersversekering in, maar die dekking wat dit bied, is egter min. Die uitbetaling op die gewone huisbewonersdekking sal maar ±R1000 (of soos die polis lees) wees, maar as die videokamera gespesifiseer was, sou die volle R6000 uitbetaal wees. Om te verseker dat die kamera vir sy volle waarde teen alle risiko‘s gedek is, moet die kamera en sy waarde in die polis gespesifiseer word. Onthou net dat daar ‘n bybetaling, deur die kliënt, op elke eis is. Maak dus seker dat jy kennis dra van wat die bybetalings op die items is, voordat jy besluit om op dekking te gaan. Mense verkeer dikwels onder die wanindruk dat hulle huisbewonersversekering beskerming teen alle moontlike gebeure verleen omdat alle risiko-versekering daarby ingesluit is. Die term is egter misleidend omdat die standaarddekking wat dit bied, maar laag is en duur items dus heeltemal onderverseker is. Daarom is dit noodsaaklik dat duur items soos kameras, horlosies, ringe, ens. in die kontrak gespesifiseer moet word. Indien dit só gespesifiseer word, sal die versekeraar die volle waarde (minus natuurlik die bybetaling) daarvan uitbetaal, selfs as jy dit verloor weg van jou huis af. Onthou ook dat selfs in die geval van alle risiko-versekering, is daar sekere omstandighede waar aanspreeklikheid uitgesluit sal word bv. die volgende oorsake van skade: · slytasie en waardevermindering; · roes, klamheid en muf; · verslegting veroorsaak deur motte of gediertes; · verlies van edelgesteentes weens foutiewe montering of die slytasie van kloutjies waarmee dit geheg is; · skade aan glasware tensy dit deur diefstal of vuur veroorsaak is. Kitchens feature near the top of most industry insiders’ lists. Most people still consider the kitchen the heart of the home and it’s often the first space potential buyers look. Ekurhuleni healthcare on its deathbed Appreciation and pride We are proud to be a South African and proud to say that we met the most amazing dedicated 3 ladies on Saturday 25th June 2016. Clinics go without critical infant vaccine Clinics in Tembisa, Nigel and Bonaero Park have run out of the critical infant vaccine, Hexaxim. This vaccine, administered at 6 weeks, boosts the body’s own antibodies to protect from Hepatitis B, Diptheria, Tetanus and Pertussis - often called whooping cough. This was revealed to me when I visited the Bonaero Park clinic as part of my oversight as a Councillor and the DA’s Mayoral Candidate for Ekurhuleni. Mothers bring their infant children to the clinic from as early as 06:00am to receive this vaccination that is currently out of stock. A DA-run Ekurhuleni would ensure that all clinics are adequately stocked for all critical vaccines by installing electronic stock management systems that would automate the re-ordering process. No new-born should go without any critical vaccinations due to a lack of stock at government run clinics. The DA calls on Ekurhuleni Mayor Mondli Gungubele, ANC Mayoral Candidate Mzwandile Masina and the ANC to take their heads out of the sand and address this critical shortage immediately. I will be undertaking unannounced visits to clinics in every community in Ekurhuleni to highlight the sorry state of primary healthcare in this city over the next two weeks. Warren Gwilt
Under-staffed clinics, medical supply shortages and daily quotes are robbing residents of Ekurhuleni of quality healthcare. This week I have been visiting clinics around the Metro to understand the plight of both healthcare workers and residents. In almost all of the clinics I have visited, medical health staff have indicated that despite their best efforts to provide quality healthcare, patient to staff quotas have reduced the amount of time they can spend attending to a patient. However, despite this, residents queue as early as 05:30am - with most waiting up to four hours to receive medical attention after entering the queue. In the less affluent areas of the Metro, medical staff explained to me that a lack of ambulances hinder their ability to deal with life threatening emergencies to transport patients to hospital. Lifesaving drugs and infant vaccines are either out of stock or in extremely short supply. Given his role as Deputy Minister and ANC Mayoral Candidate
for Ekurhuleni, Mzwandile Masina should make sure that the medical supply shortage is adhered to before the end of the week – if not, it shows that he is just a talking head with no real influence. Under the DA in Ekurhuleni this situation would not be allowed to happen. More money from the budget will be allocated to improve the quality of healthcare for all the Metro’s residents. Clinics will be adequately staffed, with professional healthcare workers who can spend more time attending to the needs of patients. We will introduce an electronic stock management system to ensure no medication runs out. We will also increase our ambulance fleet. Where we govern, no one is denied dignified, quality healthcare.

Met murg en been! Elsie Delport, die welbekende getroue passievolle onderwyseres van Laerskool Tini Vorster het geen bekendstelling in ons gemeenskap nodig nie. Na 44 jaar van lojale volgehoue diens lê sy die tuig neer as onderwyseres. Vanjaar is die groot jaar waar sy die geleentheid kry om op pensioen te gaan en haar senior burgerskap uit te leef. Elsie was aktief betrokke by elke skoolfunksie, insamelingsprojek, selfs op die netbalbaan het sy haar afrigters kwaliteite getoon. Wanneer kermis tye aangebreek het, het jy haar slegs agter die koektafels te sien gekry, hard besig om haar hulp aan te bied om voldoende fondse vir die skool in te samel. Haar passie en toewyding was egter by die minderbevoorregtes. Sy het geleef vir die broodjie klas doelwitte en verseker dat geen kind hongerly nie. Sy is nou betrokke by die Rotary Anns, wat jaarliks kersgeskenke en kospakkies verskaf aan behoeftiges. Selfs tuis vanaf haar huis is sy altyd besig om kos en klere aan die beskikbaar te stel wat dit nie het nie. Elsie gaan nie haar passie opgee nie en gaan steeds voort met die versorging en voorsiening van minderbevoorregtes. Sy verwelkom enige vorm van kos en klere donasies wat mense graag wil skenk, wat sy op haar beurt sal uitgee daar waar die

They held the Mahindra Great Escape 4x4 challenge 2016 last week Wednesday, July 6 at Henley on Klip. Heidelberg Mahindra took part in this incredible outdoor event. Clients were invited to take up the 4x4 challenge instructed by a professional driving instructor. Every participant received a certificate to congratulate them on completing the Mahindra great Escape 4x4 challenge 2016.
