Suid-Afrikaanse produsente is gedwing om drastiese en vindingryke planne in werking te stel om klimaatstoestande teë te staan om te verseker dat hulle die seisoen sal deurmaak, in sommige gevalle met baie beperkte besproeiingswater. Volgens ‘n woordvoerder van Agri is boere se kontantvloei uitgeput as gevolg van die ergste droogte in 100 jaar en boere se skuld in Suid-Afrika het van R100-miljard tot

Die Vaaldam het met 5,3% verhoog na 31,5%. Sterkfonteindam het met 0,5% verminder en staan op 91,3% as gevolg van die dam wat oorloop en na die Vaaldam toe hardloop. Waterbeperkings van 15% vir stedelike en 20% vir besproeiing is in plek. Te veel mense mors nog steeds met water as mens kyk na die uiterste droogte toestande waarin baie gebiede verkeer. Talle hulpfondse is gestig en almal kan saamwerk om water nie onnodig te mors.

Sasol and Dipaleseng local municipality engage Sasol has quarterly meetings with Dipaleseng Local Municipality with the purpose of reporting back on Social Labour Plan (SLP) projects, Social Investment projects as well as recruitment and/or employment opportunities, particularly for the local population. The Municipality was also granted opportunity to make presentation on the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) programs to enable Sasol to get broader version of the municipality and its planning trajectory for possible future alignment and partnering. In terms of SLP projects, Sasol entered into an agreement with the municipality back in 2012 for a period of five financial years involving a few projects such as the Fencing of Reservoirs which was completed in 2013 as well as the Upgrading of Roads both in Nthoroane implemented in the 2013/14 financial year. Currently Sasol is busy with the biggest project in that agreement, being the Upgrading of the Sewer Reticulation Plant in Nthoroane 2015-2017 as well as Sewer network reticulation 2018-2020 in Greylingstad and Willemsdal amounting to about R45.5 million anticipating to create about seventy (70) local job opportunities. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) have been completed and approved and a process of appointing a contractor and ready to commence work in January 2018 with remedial work commencing from then and ending at the end March 2018. The Municipality and Sasol have agreed to utilize Department of Labour for all recruitment and selection processes for potential job opportunities at an ad hoc basis, particularly those earmarked for locals. The department was part of the meeting contributing to deliberations in line with their mandate of improving work prospects for work seekers across the country. Department of Labour was requested to embark on a major recruitment drive and further to that strengthen their ongoing recruitment drive at the three local youth centres, the department will visit them on a regular basis as well as wherein the centres will be used as drop off zones for job seekers to register on their database. Sasol Mining is also involved in a massive recruitment for operators for particularly from Dipaleseng and Goven Mbeki local municipalities, absorbing five candidates per month from November 2017 with the last group to be taken in January 2018. As part of addressing skills shortage challenges in the municipality, Sasol also committed to fund a training programme for 10 leaners to benefit from the Basic Traffic Officer NQF Level 4 at the Mpumalanga Traffic College in the year 2018 to the value of about R1 million. These candidates will be recruited through the Department of Labour. For the sustainability of this initiative, the municipality has committed to absorb six of the ten learners from this program into their system. The other four will be included in the budget in the next financial year. For the whole of 2018, Sasol will be spending half a million rands on implementing a substance abuse prevention programme that will be implemented in the local schools. Amongst others, Sasol is also implementing an Orphan & Vulnerable Children programme in Nthoroane by Topsy foundation wherein; 510 people are benefiting, 46 home gardens, 8 communal gardens with 1403 beneficiaries at a total project cost of R 432 000. “We are continually grateful to all the Sasol interventions to the municipality, I am so elated and you continue to amaze us with

Too quick From the desk of Rev Ray Goddess If you have a look at the verse I have quoted in our advert below you will see that Jesus warns us that we speak too fast and think too little before speaking. While I obviously agree with this statement I think we need to look a bit further into the implications of a Rev Goddess, Heidelberg Methodist tongue that is “too Church quick”. The first problem is that once you have said something (no matter what the situation is – even if a person is under the influence of drugs or alcohol) “sorry” can NEVER take the pain away – what has been said has been said and while we can ask for forgiveness from that person (this is correct) it can never take the hurt away. Remember the old saying: there is always truth in jest. Think of how many times you have been hurt by somebody saying something not nice or untruthful to you and think also of the times that you have hurt someone else with your words. Take some time to think before you speak – you will save people a lot of pain and save yourself from embarrassment. The second point I would like to raise is that we are too quick to make assumptions when we in fact do not know the truth. A typical example is when there is an accident. We make assumptions before taking the time to find out the truth and this results not only in people being hurt but quite often results in images being damaged. The problem is that when the truth is known the person who told the incorrect story never seems to “retell” the truth or sometimes even re-write the truth to rectify the mistake. We tend to jump at any opportunity to create or report sensationalism, but we are never interested in correcting a mistake that we made or reported. I have often had times when people come and say “sorry” to me because of what they said about me – having realized that what I said was in fact truth. Apologies accepted – but the people never go and tell all the people that they spoke to that they were wrong in what they said or did. I guess the one way (and only way) to get this right is to think before we speak, make sure of the facts before we say or publish and ask one prime question – What would Jesus have said if He was in your situation. your support. Hierdie dwelm het al reeds opslae gemaak en staan bekend as ‘n “zombie”-dwelm wat sinteties vervaardig word. Volgens kenners is die dwelm dodelik en lei die dwelm tot gedragsverandering, uitermatige paniekerigheid en hallusinasies. Sulke mense dink gewoontlik dat hul gejaag word of hulle het die behoefte om ander mense te jaag. Hulle tree demonies op met buitengewone menslike krag. Die dwelm kan glo ingesluk, ingespuit of gerook word. Daar is ook sprake dat mense die dwelm al in hul drankies gekry het, so mense word gemaan om waaksaam te wees. Volgens woordvoerders is reeds meer as 60 mense in die VSA die afgelope jaar aan dié dwelm dood. Die dwelm is glo sterker as kokaïen en heroïen.
Theft and vandalism of school assets across Gauteng has cost the Gauteng Department of Education in excess of R5.6 million since 2014. Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi, indicates that since he has taken over the reins of the department there have been 412 reported incidents of theft and vandalism and break-ins at schools across the province. The most notable items that have been stolen in Gauteng’s schools are: Computers- 281; Tablets - 404; and Laptops - 90. The Johannesburg Central district experienced the highest number of incidents, accounting for a quarter of the total figure at 127. Although the MEC has indicated that these instances have been reported to the SAPS, the department has no records of insurance taken out in the event that theft and vandalism takes place - stating that this is the competency of individual schools. Given that ICT equipment has been introduced to schools to improve educational outcomes, it would appear that the preventative measures put in place by the department have not been adequate enough. SAPS firearms involved in 342 crimes Over the past eight financial years 325 South African Police Service (SAPS) firearms in Gauteng have been stolen, while a further 39 have been lost. In the 2016/17 financial year more than 40 police firearms were stolen. Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane has revealed that only 45 firearms have been recovered over the past eight years. These firearms have been linked to 342 reported criminal incidents ranging from murder, attempted murder, hi-jacking, armed robbery, house breaking and theft. While the MEC states that there have been 43 arrests in connection with these missing weapons, in the last eight years there has only been one successful conviction which was with regard to a murder. In the majority of cases where firearms
were retrieved, dockets have either been closed or cases have been withdrawn. Given the f indings of the latest crime statistics, it is evident that violent crime and home-based attacks are on the rise in Gauteng. It is of little wonder that residents of Gauteng have no faith in the SAPS to keep them safe when members have no regard for their service weapons, which ultimately find their way into the hands of those who seek to do harm. This is further compounded by the virtually non-existent conviction rate for those involved in these crimes. MEC Nkosi-Malobane must make sure that every SAPS member adheres stringently to the Firearms Control Act and should be brought to book if they fail to do so.

Government to launch substance abuse clinic in Alra Park The Gauteng Department of Social Development in partnership with Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality officially launch the Alra Park Substance Abuse Community Based Day Clinic at Alra Park, Ekurhuleni. With the second of its kind in the region, the model has proven to be successful in retaining drug users in the programme and the rate of completion has improved. “The Gauteng Provincial Government has recognised the escalating rate of substance abuse in communities especially amongst the youth. This has prompted government to strengthen prevention and awareness campaigns including outreach programmes to educate communities about the effects of substance abuse,” said Gauteng
Social Development MEC Nandi Mayathula- Khoza. The MEC added that service users request to be assisted as they cannot manage to stop drug addiction on their own. “In many instances, this is due to the fact that the service user has reached dependency or chronic stages of addiction that needs medical and therapeutic interventions,” she said. The community based day clinic will operate five days a week and for extended hours where service users will be provided with meals during the day. Services include comprehensive assessments by the multi-disciplinary team, therapeutic interventions, counselling, reintegration, after care, and skills development.

Two-tier education keeps learners out of school The Gauteng Department of Education has not made enough progress to raise the standard of education in township schools thereby perpetuating the two-tier system of education between the “haves and have-nots” in the province. Despite increased efforts through the early online enrolment process this year to ensure that learners are placed in schools before the opening of the 2018 school year, 70 995 learners are still in limbo as to where they will f ind themselves in January. Parents who can afford to send their children to more affluent schools will rather do so under crowded conditions than have their children placed at one of the numerous half empty township schools in the province. Educational outcomes at these schools are often lower than more affluent schools and little has been done to increase the desirability of these institutions of learning. This is due to political wrangling by SADTU, mismanagement of school assets, corruption and fraudulent activities that slip past the department’s watch. Without the necessary interventions by the Department and strong leadership by Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi the cycle is bound to repeat itself year in and year out. The MEC must make sure that these schools are assisted and that they are brought up to the same standard as other schools in the province. They must become institutions of excellence. Failure to do so will continue to leave learners scrambling for placement in the new year and will not resolve the challenge of improving educational outcomes in the province’s township schools.
