Kruis projek Die Nigel Kruis was die begin van ‘n visie wat gelei het tot die oprigting van ander kruise. Op 8 Junie het die Jakaranda stad die inhuldiging van die kruis die lig laat sien in Centurion en hierop volg die kruis wat
tans in Serengeti, Golf Estate, reg langs die R21 sy verskyning gaan maak. Warren Brosnihan, oud rugbyspeler en Springbok kommentator asook Darrell Hardy, wat verantwoordelik vir al die Christelike skrifte op die massiewe advertensie borde op ons hoofroetes, is beide by hierdie projek betrokke. Dieselfde beligting van die Centurion kruis gaan vir Nigel se kruis gebruik word. Die Nigel kruis se krag is huidiglik af, die ligte het skade gelei as gevolg van die beurtkrag asook die weer wat die kruis se ligte uitgeslaan het. Rudi Muller ‘n boorling van Nigel, bekende sanger wat betrokke is by hierdie projek vertel dat koste gewys beloop dit
ongeveer R69 000 om die kruis weer te aktiveer wat binnekort deur die genade van die Here verseker herstel sal word. Die revival baniere gaan binne die volgende 2 weke by die Nigel Kruis se

Your city at your finger tips Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni Cllr Mzwandile Masina will on Thursday, 19 July launch an innovative and easy to navigate App called My Ekurhuleni App, which is a full service integrated solution that ensures that Ekurhuleni residents have their City at their fingertips by among other things logging queries through the App. The App will not only reduce high caller volumes at the call centre but also ensure residents easily navigate service points in close proximity to their location. The App provides on the spot reference
numbers after reporting a service incident and a functionality to view the status of the logged calls, including calls in the vicinity. The My Ekurhuleni App boasts a wealth of information about the City of Ekurhuleni which includes the profile and contacts of the City’s Councillors, emergency services contact details, requests for application forms, refuse removal schedules as well navigation on to the City’s social media platforms for updates on service issues and upcoming events.
Helping hand project Heidelberg Mall is committed to education and community upliftment in the Heidelberg community and surrounding communities. This is Heidelberg Mall’s first Helping Hand Project. The Helping Hand Project is a community initiative which invites members of the community to make a difference by simply visiting the centre and
providing a painted handprint. For each individual handprint received, the centre makes a donation of R5 towards equipment that a local home, school or charity in the community requires to assist their day-to-day operations. Below are images of the project which took place at Heidelberg mall on the 15th and 16th June 2018.

Ex-municipal manager restored as CFO in Lesedi municipality During a special council meeting held on Monday July 9, 2018, a decision by means of a division of votes was taken by the Lesedi Local Municipality Council, to restore Paul Mpele to his former position as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Municipality. This was done after a letter was received from Gauteng MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Uhuru Moiloa which was submitted during a full Council meeting, advising the Municipal Council to restore the former Munici-
pal Manager to his previous position as CFO. During the division of votes the opposition was outvoted by the ANC majority in the Council and it was subsequently resolved to restore Mr Mpele as CFO. This follows after months of protest as Mpele had been appointed as Municipal Manager, a position he was not fit to hold. In correspondence received from the MEC, it also was pointed out that the salaries received by Senior Managers and the Municipal Manager were irregular as
they were way above the upper limit threshold as stipulated in the applicable legislation. The details of Mpele’s restoration to the position of CFO, including his future salary, were not resolved by the insistence of the Mayor, Lerato Maloka and Member of Mayoral Committee of Finance Councillor Thembi Ramothibe. Like his unlawful appointment as Municipal Manager, Mpele’s ascension to the position of CFO is concerning as it is alleged that he also does not qualify for this position and is under investigation by the Hawks.
According to the DA this display of maladministration by the ANC is a typical example of poor governance, irregular political intervention and a total disregard of legislative processes and best practice under the leadership of Premier David Makura. Once again cadre deployment has triumphed to the detriment of service delivery to the Lesedi Community. The DA will not accept Mpele as the CFO and will pursue the necessary means to ensure that his appointment is scrutinised by a higher legislative body to ensure that members of the administration in Lesedi are qualified and focus on service delivery.

43% of drunk driving cases pending For the 2016/17 and 2017/18 financial years, 53 414 drunk driving arrests were made across Gauteng, yet 22 915 (43%) cases have not been able to be concluded due to outstanding blood tests. While in almost every arrest a blood test was conducted on the guilty driver, only 23 892 blood test results have been returned. Gauteng has a high road mortality rate and every year the Minister of Transport paints a horrif ic picture of how this number continues to grow. Expensive and elaborate Road Safety programmes are rolled out annually to no avail as those who break the law know that they will not face punitive action. The slow pace of returning the results of blood tests backlogs the criminal justice system and in many cases delays justice. If justice is delayed, lawlessness will continue to thrive. The question remain which steps will the MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane take to ascertain to lobby her counterparts in national government to provide more resources to forensic laboratories in the province.

Mobile APP launched for interactive service delivery The City of Ekurhuleni, in collaboration with Vodacom, has on Thursday, July 19 launched the My Ekurhuleni App at the Katlehong Customer Care Centre designed to allow citizens to communicate challenges related to service delivery in their communities in just a click of a button. The mobile solution will amongst other matters provide the municipality with a real-time two-way communication engagement platform with citizens to report and resolve service delivery issues from burst water pipes, power outages and navigate any information imaginable at their convenience. In bridging the digital divide, citizens with basic and feature phones will also be able to use their mobile devices to report service delivery issues via a USSD (*134*30263) option at no cost and those using smartphones can log queries through the mobile app at minimal data costs as the App is light on data charges.
My Ekurhuleni App is the first services App that encompasses all key local government services such as making burial site requests, reporting potholes, locating municipal and state facilities and the City’s contact directory. The City of Ekurhuleni Chief Information Officer Tumelo Kganane said, “The App is convenient to use because it uses GPS to show everything around the City including other government facilities such as Home Affairs office, schools and police stations. Users can also monitor the status of their queries and other queries in their vicinity. It also has the search engine that can find all City forms that residents normally get from the website or at service points. Residents can basically interface with the City from the conform of their homes.” The App promises to reduce high caller volumes at the call centre but does not replace the already existing reporting methods such as walk-ins and call centre.
