Shocking! Sasol stakers staan saam Top ANC figures are reportedly planning to oust President Cyril Ramaphosa. A group in the ruling party including former president Jacob Zuma are plotting in secret to unseat Ramaphosa. The group allegedly wants to challenge the Nasrec conference based on mass irregularities at branch meetings, claiming that many delegates were illegitimate. Rumours are spreading that Zuma held a clandestine meeting in Durban this week with ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule, former North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo, Secretary of the Women's League Meokgo Matuba. Eyewitness news claims to be in possession of pictures showing Zuma meeting the group at the Maharani Hotel last Thursday scheming plans to unseat the president. It’s also alleged that another meeting was held with a fightback strategy involving court action to challenge the outcome of the party’s Nasrec elective conference which saw Ramaphosa rise to the top seat in the party. Earlier this year, Ramaphosa slammed those he has described as being divisive and expressed hope that disunity would not continue within the ANC.

Die werknemers is moeg daarvoor om uitgesluit te word. Sasol het ’n aggressiewe regstellendeaksiebeleid en die nuwe skema het werkers laat voel dat daar ’n streep getrek moet word. Sasol het net te ver gegaan.” Sasol het onlangs ‘n nuwe personeelaandeleskema, Khanyisa, bekend gemaak. Ingevolge die skema is wit werknemers asook buitelanders van dié tienjaarskema uitgesluit. In die tweede been,
vir die volgende tien jaar, word wit mense egter uitgesluit. Volgens Hermann beteken die nuwe skema in praktyk dat ‘n Sasol-werker wat 30 jaar by Sasol werk, niks kry nie, maar iemand wat drie maande by Sasol werk, kry aandeelwaarde van R500 000. “Die staking is nie oor wit en swart nie, maar oor reg en verkeerd. Die konsepmynbouhandves bepaal ook dat wit werknemers nie uitgesluit mag word van personeelaandeleskemas nie. Die 6 300 lede is hoogs opgeleide werknemers wat strategies vir Sasol van groot belang is. Sasol gaan die krag van kennis beleef. Hulle beplan om Sasol te wys wat die gevolg gaan wees as die maatskappy hulle uitsluit. By hierdie staking is nie vensters gebreek, bande gebrand of asblikke omgegooi nie, maar inteendeel heerlike worsrolle om braaivleis vure geniet.

Beoordeelaar Hannetjie Koekemoer was teenwoordig om alle artikels soos die gebreide stola, somer baadjie en memobord, konferensie artikels, papierkwilt en beetblatjang, tak artikels, oorgetrekte hanger en gebakte botterbroodjies en ook die Bernina tafel op die punteleer te sit. Spring: Restoration & New Life Who of us don’t want to have peace, calm and joy in life? I am not talking about sitting on the veranda with nothing to do and with no demand on our time but to have even the same demands and expectations but able to do that with an inner peace and deep assurance and confidence. It might sound to you that I am talking about the impossible and something out of this world and even from another planet or timeline. Not so, it is something within the reach of each individual. Acts 16:31 “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”(NIV) The Devil and Evil of our time is time; the demand of your time leading to the rush in life which constantly bring us to the point of feeling we don’t cope with what is expected from us; we cannot supply in the demand which is robbing us of peace; confidence and on top of this, steel our joy. The result is constant inner turmoil; confusion and even anxiety and depression. Not only is this effecting us in our individual walk in life but it starts the ripple effect that influence all of our living to some or other extent. Let’s look honestly at our own relationships, is it really what it should be and could be? If it was, why is there so often couples separating after being together for many years and really consuming their share of the bags of salt. Why is there the constant cry of children that their parents don’t have time for them bringing them to the point where they feel rejected and not loved, cherished and protected. Not only is the result of this divorce, disrespect among loved ones; depression and complete turmoil in the home which should have been the f irst place and experience of love, respect, protection, trust, acceptance, safety and support. We can play the blame game as long as we like, but it is just another symptom of

Two lives claimed Two male occupants were instantly killed, four others critically injured after two trucks were involved in a graphic crash on R550 road near Kliprivier in Ekurhuleni. The call was received around 21:00 on Saturday evening, August 26 and local Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue teams from Palm Ridge and Zonkizizwe fire stations, both responded simultaneously for intervention. On arrival, two male occupants, a driver and a passenger both from one truck were declared dead on scene by paramedics. Four others sustained critical injuries and
subsequently, two of the injured, were airlifted to Sunshine and Linmed hospitals respectively. The other two patients were road transported by ambulances to Thelle Mogoerane hospital for further medical care. One of the deceased was still trapped inside the wreckage and rescuers had to use Jaws of Life to recover the body for removal by forensic Pathologists. The road had to be closed for the duration of the operation. The cause of the crash is undetermined and is still under investigations by the local law enforcement unit.

Daar word beweer dat die vragmotorbestuurder langs die N3-snelweg van Durban na Johannesburg gereis het in ‘n wit UD100-trekker met sleepwa. Toe die vragmotorbestuurder Heidelberg Mall verbygaan het verdagtes in 'n blou en wit Toyota Hiace SuperT hom gestop. Die verdagte het 'n vuurwapen op hom gerig en beveel om uit die vragmotor te klim.
Die bestuurder het uitgeklim en in die rigting van Bergsig die hasepad gevat. Hy het 'n skietskoot gehoor, maar bly hardloop. Hy het gemerk dat daar bloed op sy linkerarm was en ‘n inwoner het hom te hulp gesnel. Tot dusver is geen arrestasies uitgevoer nie. Rapid land released The ANC Gauteng Province commends the Gauteng Provincial Government led by the Premier Comrade David Makhura for wasting no time to implement the Rapid Land Release Programme. Ekurhuleni has become the first municipality in Gauteng where beneficiaries who do not qualify to receive RDP houses and also cannot access home loans from f inancial institutions, will be handed serviced stands (with tarred streets, electricity, water and sanitation) and title deeds for them to build their own homes. Comrade Makhura accompanied by the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni Comrade Mzwandile Masina and the MEC for Human Settlement Comrade Uhuru Moiloa launched the programme where 2000 families will be given the land to build on their own. Furthermore, Comrade Makhura announced that in this phase 120 farms from
Ekurhuleni will be released to people that have a plan to productively make use of them. The ANC in Gauteng resolved at its 13th Provincial Conference in July to expedite the implementation of the ANC resolution on land expropriation without compensation through the roll out of the Rapid Land Release Programme which will see land being expropriated and released to beneficiaries for human settlement and to those who want to establish their own businesses especially in the townships. It is very clear that the only way to resolve the historical injustice on the land question is to ensure that the land, which is a crucial component in the value chain when we talk of radical socio-economic transformation, is handed back to the people. During the recent parliamentary constitutional review public hearings, Gauteng residents were emphatic when they stated that the land is their heritage and that true economic emancipation cannot take place unless they own their land. We reiterate the call made by the 13th Provincial Conference for the ANC-led government to continue taking the lead in ensuring that all spheres of government in the province immediately release land for housing, industrial development and urban agriculture.

Ekurhuleni fine-tuning call centre operations The City of Ekurhuleni is refining its service delivery machinery to live up to the expectations of its residents. Following the recent launch of the service delivery App called My Ekurhuleni App, the City is capacitating its call centre through retraining of agents to continue to give excellent services to those who still prefer to talk to a call centre agent for assistance. The retraining is aimed at addressing the concerns of the residents about the treatment they receive from the call centre agents and handling of issues reported through the call centre. The agents will undergo a retraining on the processes and procedures of taking calls that comes through the call centre. The call centre supervising personnel will also be undergoing retraining, which will ensure that they follow a standard procedure of listening to the agents’
recorded calls at least twice a week to monitor the agents’ interaction with callers. In case of complaints, the supervisors are expected to listen to the call complained about immediately or within a reasonable time. During the retraining, the call centre agents will be refreshed on attentive listening when taking a call, finding and providing a relevant information to the caller among other things. They will also be retrained on the basic people’s skills. To lodge a complaint or concern, a resident may send an email to callcentresupervisors@ekurhuleni.gov.za at any time. The concern will be attended to immediately. If it is established that an agent is at fault, internal disciplinary procedures will follow. People may call 0860 543 000 or use My Ekurhuleni App to report any service delivery incident.
Free photography classes for beginners A passion for taking photos and the eagerness to lean new photography skills is all it takes to be part of the free photography beginners class offered by the Ekurhuleni. The cut-off date for submitting applications is Friday, 14 September 2018. The classes will run from September 2018 until end of November 2018. The programme seeks to equip young amateur photographers who aspire to be better photographers with necessary skills. The entrants must be aged between 18 and 30 years and reside in the Eastern Region of Ekurhuleni, which include Kwa-Thema, Langaville, Tsakane, Geluksdal, Duduza and Springs. The beginners’ photography classes will be held at Kwa-Thema Library. The classes are not a learnership or employment and therefore participants will not be paid stipends and neither will their meal nor transport costs be covered. Cameras will be provided for the duration of the programme. Ekurhuleni’s Member of the Mayoral
Committee (MMC) for Community Services Cllr Dora Mlambo encouraged the youth and women to take advantage of this skill development opportunity. “There is a very high demand for the free photography classes and we can only accept a limited number of students which include women in this programme. The photography classes will be very beneficial to the aspiring photographers who are looking forward to a fulfilling career in photography. It will improve their skill level to a stage where they will know how to capture subjects and objects correctly,” Cllr Mlambo said. The classes will be presented one day per week, on Tuesdays from 10:00 to 13:00 at Kwa-Thema Library. Interested candidates can get an application form at the Springs Art Gallery. SASSA chaos Die Demokratiese Alliansie (DA) het die SASSA De Villiers-straatkantoor in Johannesburg besoek. Die besoek volg verskeie klagtes van DAaktiviste en raadslede dat die land se grootste SASSA-kantoor in volle wanorde verkeer. Die DA het met die die bestuur van die SASSA kantoor vergader en is ingelig dat hulle 'n hoë instroming van begunstigdes ervaar as gevolg van SASSA se migrasie na die nuwe toelaagverspreidingsisteem. Begunstigdes van regoor Johannesburg en omliggende gebiede reis na die SASSA De Villiers-straatkantoor om hul ou CPS- / SASSA-kaart te ruil vir die nuwe SuidAfrikaanse Poskantoor (SAPD) / SASSAkaart. Dit is deels te wyte aan die feit dat SASSAkantore nie die kapasiteit het om soveel begunstigdes te verwerk nie. Gevolglik is lang toue en chaos aan die orde van die dag by die De Villiersstraatkantoor. Die skuld vir die chaos val vierkantig onder die voete van SASSA en die Departement van Maatskaplike Ontwikkeling (DSD). Dit is 'n kritieke tydperk vir SASSA. 30
September 2018 is die sperdatum om die onwettige CPS-kontrak uit te faseer en te verseker dat alles in plek is vir SAPO om die verspreiding van toelaes oor te neem. Tog het SASSA kantore regoor die land nie voldoende menslike hulpbronne om die migrasie van die 2,8 miljoen kontanttoelaes ontvangers te hanteer nie. Dit het ook 'n impak op nuwe toelaag aansoeke. Dieselfde personeel aanvulling kan nie verwag word om beide die migrasie na die nuwe stelsel te hanteer nie, sowel as die verwerking van nuwe aansoeke. Sommige begunstigdes met beide die nuwe en ou SASSA-kaarte, is steeds nie in staat om hul sosiale toelaes te bekom nie. Dit is duidelik dat die nuwe SASSA distribusiestelsel met die SAPO toestaan, is 'n volledige ramp. Die lang lyne by die SASSA De Villiersstraatkantoor in Johannesburg, en inderdaad die lang toue by SASSA kantore regoor die land, dui daarop dat die regering geen maatreëls ingestel het om kwesbare toelaes te beskerm teen die gevolge daarvan om nie hul veelvuldige toelaes te ontvang nie.
Food safety - labelled storage specifications Ekurhuleni Environmental Health Practitioners have taken off the shelves items that pose health hazards such as meat packages that did not indicate sellby date, expired and rotten food, and unlabelled frozen mixed veggies during the recent spaza shops inspections across the City. The residents carry equal responsibility to adhere to the storage specifications of the food they purchase to avoid foodborne health conditions. While it is the shop owner’s responsibility is to ensure foods products are properly labelled and are off the shelves as per the product specif ications, the consumer carries the same responsibility of properly storing the foodstuff under the stated storage conditions. This is to ensure the quality of food sold remains fit for human consumption. Amongst the important labelling to be observant of is the words “sell-by”. According to the Regulations relating to labelling and advertising of foodstuffs (Gazette No 32975 – Regulation 146) “sell-by” means the last date of offer for sale to the consumer after which there remains a reasonable storage period at home. This is a date marked on perishable products indicating the recommended time by which they should be sold. The regulation further states that “best before” is the date which signifies the end of the period under any stated storage conditions during which the product will remain fully marketable and will retain any specific qualities for which tacit or express claims have been made. Nevertheless, beyond the date, the food
may still be perfectly satisfactory, but to maintain the food quality, the appropriate storage instruction before and after opening should be adhered to. Senior Citizens well nestled in Council-owned old-age homes For just a minimal fee of R75.05 plus standard monthly levies ranging from R233 to R389, senior citizens get to be housed comfortably at safe oldage homes owned by the City. The City owns 25 old-age homes facilities, some in a form of flats and complexes with 50 units per complex. These homes are situated in different areas across the city to cater for the housing needs of senior citizens. For senior citizens to qualify as residents on the council-owned old-age homes, they must be at the age of 60 years, be South African citizens and residents of Ekurhuleni. However, exception can be made in different circumstances based on merit. A fundamental criterion for the aged to be accommodated at these council facilities include the elders’ ability to attend to themselves and earn a monthly income (individually or jointly) within the bracket of R1501.00 and R4000.00 so as to be able to pay the monthly 5% rental fee, starting at R75.05. At the council-owned old age-homes, elders are charged monthly levies to cover fees for assessment rates, service charges, administration, maintenance costs and water consumption. The levy amounts that are charged in addition to the 5% of income are as
follows: Double unit levy is R292.31. Single unit levy is R233.85. One bedroom unit levy is R292.30. Two bedroom unit levy is R389.74. Meanwhile, electricity consumption is billed separately. Should the tenant’s joint monthly income be lower than R1501.00 the elders will only pay the stipulated monthly levy. Over the years, the City has been battling technical faults with lifts inside the old-age flats, affecting the mobility of the aged. However, the City is currently on course to ensure the safety of the elders by setting aside a budget of R12 Million for the complete refurbishment of the lifts in nine of its complexes. In these complexes, the elders are guaranteed maximum security with the provision of functional lifts, secure gates, fencing around the complexes and adequate external lighting system. Furthermore, prior to occupation, elders are expected to pay a deposit equal to one month’s rent. Accommodation at council-owned old-age homes/flats is reserved for the aged only and children are not allowed to reside permanently with tenants. No more designated subjects for high school learners Up until March 2018, the minimum requirement for admission to degree studies at a higher education institution was subject to a list of 20-credit subjects known as the ‘designated subject list.’ In order to gain entry into degree studies, learners had to obtain a NSC with a minimum of a 50% achievement rating in four designated subjects. However, on 2 March the designated list was revoked through a Government Gazette from the Department of Higher Education and the minimum admission requirements for degree study are expected to be changed as to require an achievement of 50% or more in any four subjects from the recognised 20-credit subject list. In addition, learners need to pass one official language at Home Language at 40% or more, pass two subjects at a minimum of 30% and meet the language requirement for entry to degree studies. The removal of the designated list of subjects from the requirements for the achievement of a NSC pass that allows entry to Bachelor degree study is a significant move and has some major implications. The change is applicable to the current Grade 12
learners that will write the NSC during the October/ November examination session; more significantly, perhaps will be its impact on the subject choices of current Grade 9 learners who will enter the FET phase in 2019. This new development does pose challenges for learners and those who advise them on subject choices. Does this mean standards have dropped? No, is the short answer. It will not mean a pass for anyone who would have failed the NSC. The relaxation that increases the number of subjects in which a 50% pass will contribute to meeting the minimum admissions requirements for entry into degree studies will lead to an increase in the number and percentage of NSC candidates qualifying for admission to degree studies. There is bound to be an (uninformed) public outcry that standards have dropped. The change has no impact on the standards which are being assessed in each subject. Don‘t enter the house if there is a possibility that the intruder is still inside. Ask the neighbours to help or call the police.
