Kragloos na storm ‘n Boom in Buxton Laan, Noycedale, Nigel laat inwoners kragloos nadat die boom tydens die verwoede swaar weersomstandighede deur ‘n muur gebreek het en die kragdrade beskadig het.
Hierdie insident het Sondagoggend rondom 01:30 afgespeel. Volgens een van die inwoners van die munisipale woonstelle is die saak onmiddelik gerapporteer aan die Nigel Call Centre. ‘n Verwysings nommer is aan die betrokke
persoon gegee. Om 02:30 is daar ‘n tweede oproep gemaak, steeds tevergeefs. Volgens die dame aan diens is aan die inwoners meegedeel dat daar geen elektrisiën beskikbaar is wat op bystand is nie. Volgens Dewald is aan hom verwittig dat iemand eers 7 uur beskikbaar sal wees om dit reg te stel. Inwoners is ongelukkig omdat hul voel die doel van die call centre is om mense 24 uur tot bystand te wees, dis tog die diens
waarvoor almal betaal. Volgens die operateur wat om 7 uur die saak kom ondersoek het, is die voorval eers om 7 uur aangemeld. Volgens Dewald van Buxton Laan is dit ‘n groot kommer en beskou die inwoners dit as laksheid vanaf die munisipaliteit se dienslewering. Die inwoners spreek hul kommer uit oor gevalle waar mense dalk met mediese noodtoestelle verbind is en dan kragloos gelaat is en dit lewens ingevaar stel.

98 en sprankel! Pauline le Roux van Suikerbos oord in Heidelberg spog vanjaar met haar 98ste verjaarsdag en het nogsteeds ‘n huppel in haar stap. Op 19 Oktober 1918 is Pauline in Dundee, Natal gebore en is tans 8 jaar ‘n trotse burger van Heidelberg. Paulene het haar beroep as matrone by Bronkhorstspruit outehuis uitgeleef en haar man was ‘n vlytige onderwyser. Sy word deur almal in haar familie en vriendekring gerespekteer en Pauline is nog by haar volle verstand en kan nog insiggewende gesprekke voer. Sy was haar lewe lank lief vir blokkieraaisels en hou baie daarvan om te lees. Sy was hardwerkend tot en met haar aftrede, altyd baie ywerig en fluks, ‘n vrou van formaat. Pauline het twee seuns, waarvan haar oudste in 2008 oorlede is. Haar jongste seun Andre le Roux en sy vrou Estelle, is woonagtig in Heidelberg. Ouma Pauline het 6 kleinkinders, 13 agterkleinkinders en 1 agteragter kleinkind. Vanjaar spog die familie met 5 geslagte!

Ons het die woord by die daad gevoeg en maak dit tasbaar deur vir elke dogter wat ons gereelde Sondagoggenddiens vir die eerste maal besoek ‘n kroontjie op te sit as blyk van ons respek en ware liefde!. Vier gesonde lewenslustige honde, van verskillende eienaars word vergiftig en dit net om die wiele van ‘n 4x4 bakkie te roof. Gedurende die nag van 14 Oktober het die honde van Milnerlaan 70 en 72, Nigel net na middernag, rondom 1 uur, erg geblaf. Drika van Milnerlaan 74, het dadelik ondersoek ingestel, maar het geen onraad gemerk nie. Sy het by haar doofstom, buurvrou Marian Bothma se huis, nommer 72 gaan inloer om te verseker dat sy veilig is. Marian se hond was haar ore en so het die bure na haar omgesien om te kyk wanneer die hond hewig blaf en dadelik dan opgetree. Tydens haar besoek was alles in orde en die hond het normaal voorgekom. Anna van Milnerlaan 70 vertel dat sy glasstukke gehoor het, maar niks ongewoons gesien het nie en haar honde was almal lewend en veilig. In die omgewing van 3h00 het die honde weer hewig geblaf, maar niemand het iets vermoed nie. Die oggend na al die rep en roer was almal geskok om hul liefling honde dood aan te tref. Christo Helberg, die bure agter Marian, wie se wiele van sy bakkie afgesteel is, se hond is die oggend ook langs die bakkie dood gevind. Die rowers het 4 honde se lewens geeis en dit vir 4 bakkie wiele. Hulle het die wiele oor die betonmuur, in Marian se erf gesit en vandaar na voor die huis gedra om dit oor die voorheining te tel en na die oop veld te vlug. Ondersoek word ingestel.

Punitive rates! The City of Ekurhuleni is implementing a 10% punitive rate to step up measures to save water. The Water and Sanitation Department announced that the City had only achieved a 0.8% saving rate compared to the required 15% water saving since the implementation of water restrictions. Residents using more than 25 kilolitres (kl) of water will be charged a 10% punitive rate. The 25kl is inclusive of the 6kl of free water supply provided to all household and domestic users. Businesses and other users will be charged up to a 40% penalty if they fail to decrease their annual average usage by 15%. This average will be based on their consumption over 12 months, from September 2015 to August 2016. Municipal by-laws will strongly be enforced to transgressors as per the water restriction tariffs of 2016/2017. The City urges residents to double up efforts to save water. Restrictions currently in place include that there should be no use of hosepipes, sprinklers, irrigation systems, no filling of swimming pools at all times. In addition, there should be no watering of gardens between 6am and 6pm. The City of Ekurhuleni will apply zero tolerance to illegal connection of water such as the use of fire hydrants or any other unauthorised water connection and consumption. A fee of R6 753.64 per incident on the property representing water consumption and related administration costs in cases of household usage will be charged. A penalty of R13 762.24 will also be charged per incident on the property representing water consumption and related administration costs in cases where business and other usage is applicable. Financial failures keep Gauteng residents homeless Firmer financial controls and adequate planning by accounting officers would have ensured that the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements did not surrender R980 million back to the National Department of Human Settlements (DoHS). According to the DA due to the department’s failure to effectively roll out housing, the DoHS pulled the plug on R980 million worth of funding, which in the previous financial year could have built 7 567 houses.
With a backlog of nearly 1 million houses in Gauteng, it is unacceptable that poor financial planning and controls have set back the lives of millions of residents in the province. Human settlements is the only department in the Gauteng Provincial Government that did not receive an increase in its budget. The department cannot go another year failing to deliver on its mandate – ultimately keeping the province’s most marginalised trapped in the cycle of homelessness and poverty.
Double spend The DA will put questions to Gauteng Premier David Makhura demanding he explain why the Gauteng provincial government has almost doubled its legal expenses for the 2015/16 financial year. A consolidation of all provincial government departments’ annual reports shows that legal fees have skyrocketed from R469 million in 2014/15 to R881 million in 2015/ 16. The biggest spender is the Department of Health, whose legal costs increased from R238 million to R569 million. This could only be as a result of increased medical negligence claims against the department and its callous MEC, Qedani Mahlangu. The Department of Education spent R42 million on legal fees and services (up from R27-million), while the infrastructure development department incurred R46 million. As a result Gauteng’s most vulnerable, the poor and unemployed, are being penalised by delayed service delivery due to budgetary constraints.

Die APK gemeente op Nigel het hul eerste stap vir bybels aangedurf. Op 24 September het 57 geesdriftige stappers saam die 1 km en 5 km vir Bybelverspreiding aangepak. Vir die APK Nigel was dit ‘n voorreg om stap vir bybels te kon begin in Nigel. Baie dankie aan Nigel se gemeenskap vir hul wonderbaarlike ondersteuning, asook omliggende dorpe. Spesiale dank aan Johan Ferreira wat uit sy pad gegaan het om ons te help, NCOP en André wat vrywillig sy ambulans tot diens aangebied het. Monitor 24 asook die Metro Polisie het ons met die roete bygestaan, asook alles wat daarmee gepaard gaan ons opregte dank. Ons kon dit nie sonder julle doen nie. Dipaleseng municipality to get new offices H2410
The site handover meeting and the sod turning ceremony done by the Executive Mayor symbolized the end of the old and beginning of the new for Dipaleseng’s main municipal offices in Balfour town. Renovations are soon to commence on the old building which over the years have shown signs of dilapidation, a cause for a serious concern for both employees and the public. Due to this, the provincial Department of Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs allocated funds to execute the project in the 2016/17 financial year. The scope involves the renovation of the current structure, re-arranging the different departmental offices and the additional of new offices. The municipality has a very limited space to accommodate the demand as it is in need of roughly 82
offices but currently the building only caters for a total of 52 offices. The pay point area is too small and often clients have to que outside due to limited space, roof and ceilings are collapsing and narrow passage ways. A period of five months is set aside for the first phase and the second phase will take six months to complete. “The project will get the full support and cooperation from councilors and administration,” concluded the Executive Mayor. Safety precautions are going to be of utmost importance and strictly adhered to during this renovation project as construction activities will be conducted while personnel are working around the area. However, in order to allow for the smooth running of this project, some of the offices will be relocating to different areas in Dipaleseng which might cause slight changes and regrettable inconveniences in the delivery of certain services. The community will be duly notified of these changes and the municipality humbly requests that members of the community bear with during this time.

Esau Dlamini from the Parks Department removed the garden rubble with two tractors and trailers. Now the complex is pleasing to the eye. Die hengelaars het 699 Karpe uitgetrek met ‘n gewig van 1192.846kg Swaarste karp wenner is Barend Bester (5.720kg. 27). Youngsters set for stardom Dipaleseng Local Municipality is exploding with pure and natural talent. This was reflected on Saturday, October 8, 2016 four youngsters from the municipality were chosen to be part of the Orlando Pirates Soccer Academy’s development team. They were chosen at a trial session held at the Arthur Bloch Park in Mayfair, Johannesburg. Nervousness did not subdue their flair on the ground as the foursome blew away the talent scouts with their magnificent ball skill on the day. They were accompanied by their local coach, Mr. Thokozane Mokoena who cannot contain his excitement over the boys’ achievement. Mzwakhe Miya from Isif isosethu Secondary School, Keletso Nyamathe and Mafa Mokoena both from IM Manchu Secondary School as well as Tshepo Mokoena from Holmdene Secondary School all have the potential of being great soccer stars of tomorrow through this programme. Orlando Pirates’ Youth Development which is spearheaded by Augusto Palacios is regarded as one of the powerhouses of football development in this country and Pirates’ youth structures have produced great talents over the years. The boys are set to start their journey with the club in January 2017, after they have
concluded all required processes, including the payment of registration fee to the value of R1 500.00 each. They were congratulated by the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Mafunda L Makhubu and the Member of Mayoral Committee responsible for Community Services & Public Safety, Cllr. Zanele Ngwenya on this incredible accomplishment which is definitely going to turn their lives around for the better. The Executive Mayor, further committed to pay for all their registration fees amounting to R6 000.00, the boys’ transportation costs would be carried by Mr. Zakhele Maya, a local entrepreneur and one of the chairpersons of Local Economic Development Forum (LEDF) while on behalf of the municipality, the MMC promised that sporting gear including track suits, soccer boots and a bag would be provided to the four. “This goes to show that, your background really is immaterial, but through dedication and hard work absolutely anything is possible,” said the Executive Mayor as he was encouraging the boys who hail from the dusty streets of Siyathemba. He pleaded with them to continue to work hard and never lose focus of their dreams.
