POOL BOY
FIRST SAY
On a rainy evening, I happened to stroll myself with a dog somewhere along the London streets. And as I stopped in the middle of empty parking lot, I noticed there is something unexpected by the wall. A stand with zines, mags and leaflets. Full of nudity but more important, full of real well-done pages. Overwhelming as it was, I just could not stop browsing through the issues. Needless to say, the unreal ones. From what I remembered, there were stacks upon stacks of mags, thrown in box brown boxes. And there was also a small format, almost a brochure-like zine. The title read Back to the Office which to my taste was exactly what one could seek had he was interested in something he could order, read and let on full display anywhere. Without any suspicious looks from whomever. Well, as Michael Stipes sings in cult single Losing My Religion, that was just a dream. A dream I decided to turn into reality and the very next day I started thinking it through. How a title like that could exist and would it even bring something new to the table?
The truth is, we live in times of omnipresent pornography around us and we intentionally and willingly create it ourselves. Is it shameful and bad? It may be. However, it is also liberating and somehow unifying. Crazy to think of voyeuristic and stalking culture as supportive yet, there we are. And let´s be honest with ourselves, we do enjoy cruising, seeing what other guys have packed and finding enormous pleasure in very strange encounters. Are we really all that, though? For the first issue of Back to the Office, it was crucial to outline the reality of manhood. And to assure you, it is okay to be wild when you feel you have to, because life puts in boundaries making us almost like machines. The pressure is high and reality hits hard whether you are investor, actor, artist or front desk employee. But then, those body pleasures can be liberating like nothing else. And we aimed to bring those two worlds. Blend intelligence and kink. Being pervs for reason. In all our entirety, being men enjoying ourselves. Without following any cult, just loving ourselves. Even lustfully. Because we are all that at once.
