What defines Humanscale?

Superior performance. Effortless operation. Unsurpassed comfort. We believe the best designs in the world are dictated by purpose and function. If a design solves a functional problem as simply and elegantly as possible, the resulting form will be honest and timeless.

Chairs reflect the character of their designer. Niels Diffrient was clever, pragmatic, honest, personal and generous. I use a Freedom chair every day, and it makes me optimistic about the future of design. Rob Forbes Founder, Design Within Reach

FREEDOM The Freedom® chair is often considered designer Niels Diffrient’s masterpiece. Freedom revolutionized task seating by replacing bulky, complex recline mechanisms with the laws of physics and the sitter’s own body weight.

When you look at its three panel design you immediately see that Niels’s inspiration was a tailored shirt—beautiful, simple, functional. That’s industrial design at its best. Susan S. Szenasy Editor-in-Chief, Metropolis

LIBERTY

Liberty® marks an important innovation in mesh seating. Unlike single-panel, mesh-backed chairs that require external lumbar devices, Liberty’s patented tri-panel backrest automatically conforms to the sitter’s back like a tailored shirt to provide continuous, custom-fit comfort.

LIBERT Y SIDE CHAIR Using Form-Sensing Mesh Technology on a pivoting backrest, Liberty SideÂŽ chairs feature die cast aluminum frames in a design that is elegant, functional and comfortable.

WORLD

Comprised of only eight major parts, and weighing less than 31 lbs. (14kg), Diffrient WorldÂŽ achieves exceptional sustainability while delivering superior functionality and performance.

CINTO

The only stackable seating solution that offers automatically adjusting lumbar support, Cinto® breaks the number one rule for a chair in this category—it’s comfortable.

SMART

Diffrient SmartTM is the essence of performance and minimalism. It represents the height of simplicity, in which every aspect of its design is the direct result of an essential function.

My goal is always to design chairs which are so simple to use that the functionality is often invisible to the user. I wanted the Smart chair’s aesthetic to reflect that minimalism. Niels Diffrient

Four Keys to Comfort Traditionally, people have adapted their bodies to their work tools. Humanscale designs innovative tools that adjust to each individual who uses them.

1 AN ERGONOMIC TASK CHAIR Humanscale task chairs let sitters effortlessly change postures throughout the day without having to adjust manual controls. Whether keying, talking on the phone or reclining with a mobile device, our chairs provide continuous, automatic support.

A decade of ergonomics research shows that using a negatively sloped adjustable keyboard tray maximizes the time spent working in neutral hand, wrist and upper body postures. Dr. Alan Hedge Head of Human Factors, Cornell University

2

AN ADJUSTABLE KEYBOARD SYSTEM The best ergonomic chair in the world can’t do its job if the sitter has to hunch over a desk to use the keyboard. A keyboard system lets users naturally achieve healthy upper body postures by reclining in comfort while keying.

3 EFFECTIVE MONITOR SUPPORT Good monitor arms let users place screens at comfortable viewing distances so they can work in a reclined position and enjoy the benefits of lumbar support. Humanscale offers a wide variety of supports, including the scalable M/FlexTM system, below, whose open architecture accommodates up to six monitors.

ELEMENT DISC Using energy-saving technology, Element DiscTM requires only seven watts to produce light that exceeds the luminance of a 100 -watt incandescent bulb. It also employs body heat sensing technology that turns the unit on-or-off when the user enters or exits the area.

HORIZON A minimalist design by Peter Stathis & Michael McCoy, HorizonTM uses light guide technology to deliver a uniform footprint of glare-free light. Featuring smart dimming with brightness memory, it emits light equivalent to a 100 -watt incandescent on just nine watts.

LED TASK LIGHTING Proper task lighting creates optimal light levels for viewing monitors and printed documents. Our high-performance LED task lights employ a single light source, eliminating multiple shadows, to produce a perfectly uniform footprint of light. Our LEDs consume so little electricity, they’re not only good for the environment, but energy bills, too.

ELEMENT 79 0 With its innovative heat-dispersing design, the LED used by the Element 790 TM delivers a 50,000 -hour lifespan—that’s approximately 20 years of average use. Plus, it consumes just five watts to provide a light output equal to a 100 -watt incandescent bulb.

FLOAT

Studies indicate that height-adjustable tables are seldom used because they’re too hard to operate. Our FloatŽ table is as simple to use as standing up. Utilizing constant-force technology, Float lets users fluidly raise and lower the table by simply squeezing a lever. The result? People actually use it.

WEIGHT FLE XIBILIT Y One of Float’s key innovations is the ability to adjust tension as loads change. Float’s patent-pending mechanism allows the user to alter the load capacity, so operating the table remains easy even when extra weight is added or removed.

FLOAT KEYBOARD Float offers a custom adjustable keyboard system in black or white.
