“[I]t is the wine that leads me on, the wild wine that sets the wisest man to sing at the top of his lungs, laugh like a fool – it drives the man to dancing... it even tempts him to blurt out stories better never told.” Homer, The Odyssey
a pilgrim ’s journe y
Wine, also referred to as the “nectar of the Gods” is one of the fundamental elements of human culture, leading the ancient to consider wine as sacred. The latest archeologic evidence show that prehistoric farmers from the Stone Age (around 6000 B.C.) were making wine in Southern Georgia. These new findings make it clearer than ever that wine has been central to the human experience since the earliest vestiges of civilization. As Alexis Lichine once wisely wrote, “The best way to learn about wine is the drinking”. Please let me introduce our next Wine o’clock auction, a journey of discovery through the best vineyards of the world. From the highly-regarded Burgundian terroirs, the rarest Bordeaux signatures, and the most desirable wines from the Rhone & the Loire valleys, Alsace, and more, this auction is a treasure-trove for all mature wine passionates. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Jayer, Leflaive, Coche-Dury, Ponsot, Méo-Camuzet, Ramonet, Lafite, Mouton, Margaux, Chave, Beaucastel, Guigal, Jasmin, Clos Rougeard, Dagueneau, Huet, Trimbach, Deiss, Penfolds’, Opus One, Taylors’ – these are some of the names which will transcend all wine-enthusiasts in their quest for their next “sans pareil” wine experience. Our “ A pilgrim’s journey ” wine o’clock will start on Tuesday 26th of February 2019 at 2pm on the dot (Swiss time !). Be on time – it will go fast and us Swiss don’t mess with time !
