“ Wine is sunlight, held together by water. ” Galileo Galilei
sea, wine & sun As the early stages of the sunny season are finally breaking through, following a capricious, erratic and fearful spring here in the European vineyard, Nature seems to take up its summer quarters. While day temperatures are slowly rising, frost threats recede, even though April and May 2019 will remain in French vintners’ recollection cruel and terrible period for the vines and the nerves. As June and the summer break get closer, it is my pleasure to announce our “Sea, sun & wine” Wine o’clock auction. Two tremendous private collections of white and red Burgundies and Rhone wines, along with some world-class Bordeaux, Loire, Spanish and Italian iconic wines, and Champagnes. The Burgundy highlights of this sale are nothing less than A. Ente, J-M. Roulot, d’Auvenay, J-F. Coche-Dury, Raveneau and E. Sauzet for the whites (in bottles and magnums), and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Comte Liger-Belair, de Vogüé, Clos de Tart, A. Rousseau and G. Roumier in rarely seen quantities. The Rhone collection represents an incredible collector’s treasure-hunt : Hermitage Chave & Chapoutier Ermitage both white and red, Beaucastel “Hommage à Jacques Perrin” and unfrequently offered verticals of Guigal Turque, Landonne and Mouline in original wooden cases. Last but not least, Latour, Margaux, HautBrion, Cheval-Blanc… Clos Rougeard, Vega Sicilia “Unico”, Conterno and Quintarelli amongst other exhilarating names. Our “Sea, wine & sun” Wine o’clock will start at 2pm precisely on Tuesday 11th of June (Swiss time!). Be on time, it will go fast and us Swiss don’t mess with time! Julie Carpentier Deputy Director
