vine
Severe late spring frosts, following an unusual early bud burst, have dramatically affected the French vineyard these past days, from Bordeaux to Languedoc, and have enduringly jeopardized the 2017 crop all over the hexagon. In this context, resonates the necessary adaptation of worldwide wine production to climate change. Grapevines are extremely responsive to their surrounding environment and climate is one of the key controlling factors in grape and wine production, affecting the suitability of certain grape varieties. Temperature increase, altered precipitations, increased carbon dioxide levels, UV radiations, are the common symptoms that global warming is affecting biological systems and agriculture. 21st Century wine growers and wine makers are facing all at once new challenges and exciting opportunities in order to maintain the delicate balance between nature, nurture, and economics in the face of a global changing climate that will most certainly revamp our contemporary vision of Wine. The dawn of this new era is the perfect opportunity to celebrate some of the major achievements of the Bordeaux, Rhone and Tuscan vineyards from the past decades. On the occasion of this “Under the Vine” Wine o’clock, we shall focus on the greatest of Bordeaux’ Châteaux and some of the most regarded wine-estates from the Rhône Valley, Tuscany, Ribera del Duero, together with Cognac, Armagnac and Whisky signatures. Amongst the many highlights included in this auction, wine-lovers will be thrilled to discover: Lafite, Latour, Margaux, Mouton & Pétrus 1982, Lafite, Mouton & Haut-Brion 1986, Pétrus 1989 & 1990, Haut-Brion, ChevalBlanc, Pichon-Comtesse & Léoville-Las-Cases 1998, Pétrus & Cheval-Blanc 2006, La Violette 2009, Mouton & Cheval-Blanc 2010 and Guigal’s Mouline, Landonne and Turque from 1996 to 2010. “Under the Vine” Wine o’clock will start on Tuesday 16th of May at 2pm on the dot. Be on time – it will go fast, and us Swiss don’t mess with time ! Julie Carpentier, Wine Strategy Advisor
