AUBH Graduation

“Under the Patronage of HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the American University of Bahrain (AUBH), announced the graduation ceremony for its first cohort on Monday, June 19. AUBH’s President, Dr. Bradley J. Cook, emphasized the University’s interest in producing graduates equipped with the necessary skills required by the labour market, as well as local, regional and international developments capable of lifelong learning, and adept at communicating, highlighting that the outputs of the University’s programs match those sought by Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. AUBH’s Provost, Dr. Jeff Zabudsky, said the first cohort’s graduation demonstrates the University’s commitment to quality education. He highlighted the University’s academic developments, especially the adoption of new academic programs, as part of the plan to enhance the University’s educational programs in line with directives from the Higher Education Council and Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.“

The school was founded in August 1968 in Awali as the Bahrain American Elementary School with one teaching principal, three teachers and 40 students. In January 1972, in expectation of even further expansion, the school was moved to a 24-acre campus in Juffair where it remains today.

With a mission to Educate, Engage and Empower students to succeed, it follows an American Curriculum for grades 6-12, and the opportunity to take Advanced Placement examinations for academically-oriented students in grades 11 and 12.

Students who graduate will receive an American Diploma and those looking to pursue their higher education in the US can take Advanced Placement classes that contribute towards their college credit. Furthermore, there is a full Arabic as a First Language programme for students holding an Arab passport.

Bahrain School is the only US-owned and operated school in Bahrain. As a result, students receive the full All-American school experience – from homecoming and prom to a variety of after-school sports and clubs ranging from basketball, football, volleyball and tennis to swimming, golf and cross-country. Academic extra-curricular activities include Drama Club, Model United Nations, Chess clubs and foreign language clubs just to name a few.

A number of Bahrain School alumni have gone on to have hugely successful careers. Notably, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, HRH Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and his children are alumni of The Bahrain School. May El Calamawy, the EgyptianPalestinian actress who starred in the Marvel TV show Moon Knight, is also an alumnus of Bahrain School. Other alumni have gone on to work for internationally-
