BAILEY CUMMINS Interior Design Portfolio

My passion for interior design developed in my early childhood from my father taking me to work with him at his residential contracting business. From the foundation work to the insulation installments, I intriguingly watched as the entire construction process transpired. Ever since those days spent at my father’s job sites, I have had an adoration for watching bluep r i n t s d e v e l o p i n t o a r e a l i t y. A s I g r e w o l d e r a n d b e g a n a s s i s t i n g my father with FF&E selection, my interests drew away from the construction standpoint of design and advanced towards the interior processes. I am forever grateful for those experiences and the people I interacted with along the way for shaping my creative mind and leading me to pursue a professional career in interior design.

These aspects are shown in this design by pulling inspiration from a native tree of Seattle, commonly referred to as the Pacific Dogwood Tree. The private medical office promotes mental and physical health for both baby boomers and millenials through the use of natural materials, clear wayfinding, adequate lighting, and multifunctional spaces.

DESIGN GOALS

Create an engaging atmosphere with multipurpose facilities. Encourage users of the space to unwind, rejuvenate, & flourish. Use natural materials as a contrast to the surrounding city.

LOIS DOWDLE COBB MUSEUM OF ARCHEOLOGY

OBJECTIVE

Collaborate with Architecture, Building Construction Science, Graphic Design and Interior Design students to redesign the Lois Dowdle Cobb Museum of Archaeology located at Mississippi State University. Update the facilities to focus on the demographics of the space.

RESEARCH Team of 11 7,500 SF Revit, Photoshop, Illustrator, & Excel Starkville, Mississippi 3rd Place Brasfield & Gorrie Student Competition

RESPONSIBILITIES

Research, Rebranding, FF&E Selection, Renderings, & Final Project Packet

Only 24.1% of museum visitors attend museums for the exhibits themselves. The other wide percentage attends them to experience the museum as a whole. Due to this information, it is critical for museums to be intriguing and aesthetically pleasing with easy wayfinding for functionality. Due to this museum being on a college campus with no immediate parking, many visitors will have to walk a while to get there which makes seating an important accomodation. The Cobb Museum typically sees 2,500 visitors and majority of these are elementary school students. Yale University performed a study that concluded that museum success is based on specific museums providing accomodations for their specific visitors. Due to the Cobb Museum’s main visitors being elementary students, it is crucial for the renovation to be engaging to a younger audience.

CONCEPT

The renovated museum follows a motif of layers inspired by archaeological excavations. From the inwardly tiered entrance to the multi-level displays, users are drawn to the museum downstairs. Interactive displays and areas for activities transform the museum into a community based space that concentrates on the institutes typical visitors.

DESIGN GOALS

Create a practical design that engages visitors of all ages. Provide flexible displays and an adaptable floor plan for exhibit changes. Draw interest and increase overall attendance through interactive zones.

The definition of Resfeber is “The restless race of the traveler’s heart before the journey begins.” This applies to the hotel because the spaces take hotel goers on a journey through the history of Palm Springs. According to an interview with the mayor of Palm Springs, he stated that they are currently in a historic renaissance and the design of Resfeber must comply with this.

CONCEPT

Resfeber is a boutique hotel located on the edge of Coachella Valley. Developing in the 1920's, this alluring desert town evolved into what is formally known as Hollywood's Playground. Celebrities are drawn here due to the beautiful weather that averages 350 days of sunshine per year, the luxurious restaurants and boutiques, and the edgy nightlife. Aside from celebrities, Palm Springs sees around 13 million visitors per year, which makes it the perfect location for a new and vibrant hotel. Inspired by the rich history of the city in which it's located, Resfeber takes hotel goers on a journey through time and space as they induldge in the numerous amenities. The sleek, modern architecture mixed with the vibrant materials and finishes embraces the desert landscape and captivates guests senses.

DESIGN GOALS

Design a hotel that stands out from the competition. Display important time periods of Palm Springs history through design elements. Use retro materials and furniture.

Eon Lounge is located in the lobby of Resfeber Resort and Spa where it provides a full service bar and a gathering place for hotel goers to socialize. Inspired by the time period in which celebrities began establishing Palm Springs as their desert oasis, Eon Lounge takes guests all the way back to the 1920's through the use of Art Deco elements and exaggerated ornamentation.

LOUNGE

For guests that would rather indulge in a fine dining experience versus a lounge, Restaurant 38 is also located on the ground level of Resfeber Resort and Spa. This lively restaurant embodies the significant treasures of Palm Springs. Ever since it was topographically founded in 1838, visitors seeking an enriched sanctuary have claimed Palm Springs as their ideal desert destination. While dining in this space, guests will be surrounded by rich elements inspired by the desert landscape of Palm Springs.

In the city known as the Playground for the Stars, guests are able to feel like a star themselves while enjoying all of the amenities this rooftop offers. These include an infinity pool, a swim up bar, private cabana lounging, an amphitheater, hammocks, and a tanning deck. As the sun begins to set, Resfeber's rooftop transforms into a lively night time scene. Palm Springs is known for their energetic nightlife, but the Darkside of the Moon puts an innovative twist on the typical club scene. OBJECTIVE

Brand and design an international restaurant located in Barcelona, Spain. The design should characterize the distinct style of Barcelona.

Team of 2 7,400 SF Revit, Photoshop, & InDesign Barcelona, Spain 2nd Place Hospitality Design ASID Design Summit

RESPONSIBILITIES

Research, Branding, Custom Revit Components, Exterior Elevation, FF&E Selection, & Renderings

RESEARCH

Barcelona locals typically eat lunch between 1 to 4 and dinner between 9 to 11 and business hours must coordinate with these times. Antoni Gaudi is a Barcelona based architect known for his free flowing works typically inspired by nature. Barcelona is known for their extravagent nightlife with bars and clubs that stay open until 6 in the morning.

CONCEPT

Inspired by Antoni Gaudi's use of asymmetry paired with organic shapes, 17 Hours' vivid atmosphere pushes his ideas to the limit. The name derives from the restaurant's hours of operation, which begin at 11 AM and run into the early hours of the following day. Beginning around 11 PM, the restaurant transitions into a lively night time scene equipped with a full service bar and VIP seating to accomodate the energetic nightlife that Barcelona is known for. The overall goal for the design of this space is to create a bold design that is inviting and empowering to all.

DESIGN GOALS

Incorporate elements inspired by Antoni Gaudi. Use vibrant colors and mosaic patterns to reflect the style of Barcelona. Mix symmetrical and asymmetrical design features.

OBJECTIVE

ZONE

Design a new headquarters for a commercial real estate agency located in Denver, Colorado. Rebrand the company in a way that recedes from their traditional roots as they wish to modernize their name to conform to the new location.

RESEARCH Individual Project 12,550 SF Revit, Photoshop, & Illustrator Denver, Colorado

RESPONSIBILITIES

Research, Branding, Concept Development, Space Planning, Revit Model, Renderings

Denver is the most populated city in Colorado and is rapidly changing. The number one demand from office employees is to have a variety of workplace environments and multipurpose spaces. Different color hues affect productivity and the overall well being of employees.

CONCEPT

Zoning is a process in which cities are divided into sections that each serve a specific function. City zoning is broken down into five main categories; commercial, residential, mixed residential-commercial, industrial, and spatial. Even though each of these sections serve their own purpose, they all coincide to create a prosperous city. Inspired by this idea, ZONE is split into five workplace environments that coexist to create a successful business. These workplace environments include spatial, meeting, nomadic, resource, and resident. Each specific environment is highlighted through the design of ZONE by their designated colors.

DESIGN GOALS

Provide a variety of workplace environments and multipurpose spaces. Use colors to differentiate between certain workplace environments. Create a space that connects employees with the surrounding community.

SPACE PLANNING COLOR ANALYSES

Nomadic Work Zone Mixed City Zoning Meeting Work Zone Industrial City Zoning Resource Work Zone Commercial City Zoning Social Work Zone Spatial City Zoning Resident Work Zone Residential City Zoning

Through research on color study analyses it was shown that the color ORANGE is associated with creativity and high energy, the color BLUE is a soothing color associated with communication, and the color YELLOW is associated with optimism and happiness. The color of each workplace zone was decided based on these emotions. WORK ZONE FUNCTIONS

Nomadic Work Zones are areas highlighted in dark blue where employees can go to focus on individual work. Meeting Work Zones are areas highlighted in dark orange that provide large, medium, and small conference type settings. Resource Work Zones are areas highlighted in teal that provide resources for employees. Examples of this zone include the copying/printing room and the kitchen. Social Work Zones are areas highlighted in yellow where employees can go to take a break from work and catch up with their fellow employees. Resident Work Zones are highlighted in light orange and represent multipurpose spaces that can be used for individual work or group work.

WALKER H A L L

OBJECTIVE

Perform a lighting analysis and a daylight zoning analysis of Walker Engineering Hall. Design a cost efficient and energy efficient remodel for the space.

RESEARCH Team of 2 500 SF AutoCAD, Revit, Photoshop, & Illustrator Starkville, Mississippi

RESPONSIBILITIES

Lighting Analysis, Site Evaluation, Reflected Ceiling Plan, Lighting Legend, & Renderings

LED lighting is the best option for energy efficiency. Appropriate lighting is a dominant factor in the brain’s ability to focus, and poor lighting adds stress and reduces the brain’s ability to retain information. With the incorporation of adequate lighting employees and students of Walker Hall will experience less stress, lower anxiety rates, and their overall health and behavior will improve.

CONCEPT

The incorporation of linear lighting creates a modern atmosphere. The recessed cans along the drop down ceilings add general lighting to the building. Special features, such as the canoes and the hummingbird photography, are high lighted with LED strip lighting. All of these elements paired with the geometric chandeliers in the lobby create a new, contemporary space for the faculty and students of Mississippi State University.

DESIGN GOALS

Design an energy efficient lighting display. Incorporate textures and colored materials to liven up the space. Create a modernized renovation.

72 | INTEGRATED LIGHTING: Walker Hall

LIGHTING ANALYSIS

The penetration of daylight is 29 feet from the window. The window is placed in a curtain wall so natural light floods into the space.

Letgo OBJECTIVE

Research Flexsteel Industries and design a piece of furniture to present to the company. The furniture piece must be applicable to the hospitality industry. Individual Project Rhino, AutoCAD, & 3D Printing 4th Place Flexsteel Industries Student Competition

RESPONSIBILITIES

Research, Branding, Concept Development, Rhino Model, Shop Drawings, & 3D Model

RESEARCH

Flexsteel’s hospitality line has a limited selection in sofas and sectionals, so Letgo is designed to fit both categories. Designers in the hospitality industry need a product available for custimization for each individual space. There is no set age group that occupies the hospitality industry, so the furniture used in these spaces must be universal.

CONCEPT

Versatile. By definition, this word refers to something or someones ability to adapt to or to be adapted to numerous different functions and activities. With the vastly changing world around us, it is crucial for manufactured furniture to be able to continue to sell for years to come. The design of Letgo takes the clean and sharp lines of a Lego to create a timeless furniture piece. As a child is able to make their vision come to life by placing individual Lego pieces together, designers and clients are given this same luxury with Letgo’s 5 main pieces.

DESIGN GOALS

Create a modular lounge system. Design style should be contemporary to be able to continue to sell in the future. Pieces should be comfortable and functional for all age groups.

Design Sketches

3D Renderings

The 5 main pieces of Letgo consist of a lounge chair, a loveseat, a sofa, a chaise lounge, and a connector piece. An ottoman is also available to purchase with every order. The individual pieces are able to be ordered by themselves, and they are also available backless and armless. Together these form 9 main configurations, but clients are able to place custom orders.
