Two night itinerary

Southern Ocean Lodge offers a complete Kangaroo Island experience, blending pristine nature, contemporary surrounds and world-class local dining to create a very real sense of place. Guests are presented with a personalised itinerary upon arrival including the lodge’s signature experiences, designed to explore the must-see sights of ‘Australia’s Galapagos’ and led by passionate guides for an unforgettable expedition-style KI encounter. Signature experiences are included in the tariff and are provided on an intimate shared basis with fellow guests at scheduled times. Private experiences can be arranged at additional cost subject to availability.

Two Night Baillie Escape

The following represents an indicative experience over two nights. Many factors influence the delivered itinerary including flight arrival and departure times, pre-booked activities, guide and vehicle availability, weather conditions and seasonality. Any special arrangements made in advance or once at the lodge will be crafted within a custom itinerary ensuring the very best experience of both lodge and island.

Day 1 Welcome

Arrive on Kangaroo Island and travel to the lodge. Enjoy signature welcome drinks on arrival and settle into the surrounds with lunch in the lodge restaurant, overlooking the vast panorama of Hanson Bay.

Day 1 Afternoon

Following lunch, head off on the Coastal Clifftop Walk set high above the Southern Ocean swell guided along the flora-fringed trail by a lodge naturalist. On return, join an interpretive presentation to learn about the island’s discovery and natural history.

Check-in time is 2pm. Where possible, flexibility with early check-in will be provided. The lodge operates complimentary airport transfers connecting with scheduled flights to Kangaroo Island Airport shared with fellow guests. Private transfers can be arranged for an additional charge.

Day 1 Evening

As the sun dips below the horizon, journey to a nearby bushland sanctuary. Sip South Australian beverages and nibble on snacks while shy-by-day marsupials to venture out from their resting spots to graze in the open grassland.

Day 1 Night

Return to the lodge to dine on the bounty of local and regional produce showcased in a four-course menu and paired with premium South Australian wines to create a real taste of Kangaroo Island.

Day 2 Morning

Fuel a day of adventure with breakfast in the lodge restaurant before exploring the island’s famed landmarks on the Wonders of Kangaroo Island experience. Trip highlights include a natural coastal grotto with resident fur seals and the aptly named Remarkable Rocks.

Day 2 Afternoon

Refresh with a light, three-course lunch in the lodge restaurant. Later, travel to Seal Bay Conservation Park for a guided walk among the ‘locals’ on the Seal Bay encounter, just one of Kangaroo Island’s many privileges.

Day 2 Evening

Relax with a sunset drink in the Great Room before dining at leisure in the restaurant. A sweeping panorama of Hanson Bay provides a dramatic backdrop for savouring world-class contemporary cuisine with a proudly local provenance.

Day 2 Night

After dark, grab a torch and join a Nocturnal Explorer tour to visit the Hanson Bay Sanctuary and discover a world that comes alive while you are usually asleep. Spot koalas at their most active, wallabies and kangaroos foraging for dinner and wide-eyed possums.

Day 3 Morning

Rise early for a sunrise walk on the beach or witness the morning unfold along the sweep of coast stretching as far as the eye can see, snug from the comfort of the Baillie Bed.

Day 3 Farewell

Time for a final breakfast and to take last pictures before departure. Safe travels onwards!

Hanson Route

Wander along the lodge’s raised boardwalk and onto the windswept shore of Hanson Bay. Spot sea birds scuttling along the sand, pass sea caves sprouting fossilised tree trunks and discover the pristine cove of Hanson Bay Beach where a cool dip is optional!

Southern Spa

Relax and rejuvenate in the Southern Spa, a sanctuary set among native bushland. Signature treatments feature the Australian-made alkeme spa care range, complemented by Kangaroo Island’s natural beauty products.

Broaden your horizons

In addition to the included signature experiences a menu of bespoke experiences offers further exploration. These optional activities may be requested at time of reservation or once at the lodge subject to availability (additional charges apply). A stay of three nights or more is recommended to enable time for a deeper island discovery as well as the included itinerary.
