Our mission The school’s mission is to identify and develop to the full the natural talents and potential of each individual pupil and to prepare them all for a full, happy and productive life. The school seeks to achieve this within the context of the culture, ethics and values of the Christian faith, emphasising those strong moral and spiritual tenets shared with other faiths.
Aims and objectives We aim: • To provide our pupils with knowledge and experience appropriate to their age. • To teach literacy and numeracy skills to the highest possible standard. • To teach those cultural skills which enable pupils to develop knowledge and understanding of the world, its peoples and cultures, both past and present. • To develop and enhance pupils’ knowledge of the environment and thereby foster an awareness of the need to conserve and care for its resources. • To develop the desire and ability to contribute to the community at large, respecting and appreciating others for their differences and beliefs. • To develop confidence in themselves to lead full and independent lives. • To develop an appreciation of art, drama and music and to provide opportunities for performances of a high standard.
How is this achieved? • By providing a happy and safe environment which gives a sense of security with consistent expectations within an organised structure. • By giving the pupils high yet realistic targets, within an ethos of individual excellence. • By creating a caring atmosphere where pupils are confident that their individual needs will be respected and considered. • By providing a broad and stimulating curriculum.
We know this has been achieved: • Through pupils’ responses to all lessons. • Through pupils’ behaviour towards each other and within the community. • Through pupils displaying the initiative, integrity and respect appropriate to their age. • Through regular assessment and testing of pupils. • Through regular internal assessment and appraisal of staff.

Healthy eating Within school, girls are encouraged to eat a healthy, well balanced diet. All food is freshly prepared in our modern kitchen by our own in-house staff. The menu includes traditional and modern dishes from around the world and all diets are catered for. Hot and cold dishes are available daily, together with a variety of salads, fresh fruit and vegetables. Healthy and energizing snacks, including milk to drink, are provided at break time and again after school before extra-curricular clubs. During their time in Nursery, pupils bring a packed lunch into school. This allows their lunchtime to be a relaxed and familiar routine as they settle into the school environment.
School day In Nursery, pupils attend four full days from 9am to 3pm Monday to Thursday and from 9am to 12 noon on Friday. From Reception to Year 6 pupils attend school five full days, Monday to Friday. The Main School door opens at 8.15am. Pupils are expected to be in their classrooms by 8.35am. Leaving times are staggered between 3pm and 3.30pm. After-school clubs and homework sessions finish at 4.30pm. All pupils finish by 3.30pm each Friday.

Uniform The wearing of uniform is strictly enforced. In Nursery and Reception there is a simplified uniform. A full uniform list and details of stockists are available on the school website. The official school uniform outfitters for Sarum Hall are Uniform 4 Kids (www.uniform4kids.com). Second hand uniform sales are organised by the Parents’ Association.
School policies School policies on attendance, admissions, childprotection, curriculum and pupil behaviour can be viewed in full on the school website www.sarumhallschool.co.uk All school policy documents are also available upon request from the school office.
Travel and sustainability The school supports the Camden Schools Travel Plan initiative which encourages families to develop environmentally friendly journeys to school. This not only increases the fitness of our pupils but also improves the local environment. Girls are encouraged, where possible, to walk, scooter or cycle to school. There is provision at school for bicycles, buggies and scooters. For those living further afield car sharing and the use of public transport is encouraged. The Northern and Jubilee lines are accessible from Belsize Park, Chalk Farm or Swiss Cottage underground stations. Please see the school website for further details and for route planners for journeys by foot, bicycle and bus.

Admissions Sarum Hall’s main intake of pupils is into Nursery in the September after their third birthday. Occasional places do occur higher up the school from time to time. The admissions process begins upon registration; we recommend you register your daughter at least two years prior to entry. A registration form should be completed and returned to the school with a nonrefundable registration fee of £100. After registration, parents are invited to visit the school and have a personal meeting with the Headmistress. These meetings occur between October and March, two years before entry, and include a tour of the school during the school day. After this visit, prospective parents are asked to write confirming their continued interest in a place for their daughter.
Assessment Girls entering the school at the age of three are not assessed. From Year 1, girls are tested in mathematics and English. Reports from previous schools are requested.
Siblings The school has a policy of accepting siblings. Older siblings will be offered a place should a vacancy arise.
Offering of places Places are offered fifteen months before entry. Due to a high level of demand, it is not possible to defer places or acceptance. An enrolment deposit of one term’s full fee is payable in two stages. £500 is due on acceptance of the offer of a place and the balance is due seven months before entry. The deposit is refunded with the pupil’s final account.
Bursaries Means-tested bursaries are available if need is shown. Details can be obtained from the Bursar.
