WEBBER INDEPENDENT SCHOOL

We Are Webber At The Webber Independent we focus on preparing our young people for a changing world. The jobs of today will not be the jobs of the future, which is why we focus on initiating change. We will equip your son or daughter with the right mindset, skills and qualifications to stand out and thrive in the competitive world of tomorrow.

TOMORROW MAKERS Our aim is to help fuel the next generation of game changers who will shape the future. We do this by providing the right support and environment, fostering engaged and independent learners. Our subject specialist teachers will nurture your son or daughter’s confidence in their abilities through modern teaching techniques, which include key skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, perseverance and communication. Our approach blends academic rigour with key employability skills, designed to develop well-rounded global citizens. Our methods are taught to all of our young people from age 4 to 18, embedding high levels of emotional intelligence and focused learning from an early age.

Shapers & Makers At The Webber Independent our aim is to support and develop the minds of our future shapers and makers beyond education, encouraging our young people to question, challenge and demonstrate independent thinking and persistence to achieve their goals. It’s this point of difference that will see our young people find solutions to future problems and take up leadership roles in a very different workplace and society. We’ve already seen the rise of The Internet of Things, which is revolutionising our everyday objects at home and work into smart, connected products that automate simple tasks. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are further examples of how the world is changing at an incredible pace. Here at The Webber Independent we are mindful of these changes as we prepare our students not only to adapt to this changing world but also to help shape it. We nurture our future shapers and makers by keeping our class sizes small, so your son or daughter benefits from a more personal learning experience in which our dedicated teachers have the time to ignite passions and guide talents.

Game Changers We believe it is never too early to learn the importance of leadership and teamwork. From Reception class through to our Sixth Form, we teach the importance of working together on projects and tasks to solve problems and find solutions. For our youngest learners this could be role-playing in our outdoor classroom and working out how to rebuild a tower on a construction site using teamwork and problem-solving skills. For our Sixth Form this could be a range of activities, from carrying out weekly reading sessions with our younger students, through to leading The Student Council, The House System, The Sixth Form Executive or being appointed Prefect, Head Boy or Head Girl. At every age, our educational approach is designed to inspire a growth mindset in our young people to help them succeed at Webber Independent and beyond. Our extra-curricular activities such as the Young Entrepreneur’s Club provide additional opportunities for our students to practise business and life skills, which will be so important for their futures.

Webber has taught me the value of self-belief and to have confidence in my own thoughts and opinions. This has equipped me with a positive mindset that will be beneficial as I take my next steps in life. Every day my tutors encourage me to step outside my comfort zone to achieve my best. I know I will leave Webber well prepared for my future. Daniel Katechia, Sixth Form Student

We place a high value on building strong and inclusive teacher and parent partnerships and that starts from the very beginning of our relationship with you. We have a number of ways that we invest in parental and student engagement, which include regular reporting and communications. We actively encourage our parents to be involved in school life and all new parents are invited to join our Parent Group, FOWIS, where you can meet other parents or get involved with fundraising. However, there’s no pressure to participate and you are welcome to be involved to whatever extent suits you. In addition to regular newsletters and weekly personalised form tutor update emails, we offer an online parent and student portal and mobile app. We also hold up to six parents’ evenings a year, at which we provide regular progress reviews of your son or daughter’s performance. For Life’s Painters Creative pursuits and subjects are a great way for our young people to build their character, become more self-aware and discover passions. At The Webber Independent we have an eye on the future and look at employer requirements to help prepare our young people for life beyond education. As the skills in the workplace change, we need to ensure that your son or daughter’s discipline of choice is futureproofed with a diverse skill set. One area of growth is the creative economy, which is predicted to be one of the leading industries in the future, delivering skills that automation and machines cannot replicate. Our creative subjects teach our young people divergent thinking, which develops key skills and thought process techniques that they can apply to their continued learning, whatever their age. It also equips them with creative and digital skills to benefit other subjects as well as in their chosen careers. We offer a range of creative subjects from art to music as well as a number of extra-curricular clubs designed to encourage our young people to expand their creative problem-solving, cognitive function and communication skills - all of which are important life and core employability skills. Our students take part in local, regional and national competitions performing at the highest level, building strong community links and networks that help build their confidence and presentation skills. At The Webber Independent your daughter or son will be able to explore the many options available to them, from taking part in art exhibitions to learning to play a range of musical instruments.

Additionally, our internal events include International Week, Maths and Science Week as well as our Careers Carousel and STEAM Fair. The Webber Independent has a strong focus on Business & Enterprise and offers various work experience and internships, as well as The Young Entrepreneurs’ Club.
