Federal Income Tax Credit The Federal Income Tax Credit (ITC) established in 2005, along with a series of extensions, extended the tax credit until 2021. This tax credit allows homeowners
who purchase solar for their home the opportunity for a 30 percent tax deduction of the cost of installing a solar energy system. Homeowners going solar in 2019 will qualify for a 30 percent solar ITC. This credit will drop to 26 percent in 2020 and down to 22 percent in 2021. Lease vs. Purchase We help people understand the difference between leasing a system vs. purchasing or financing a system. For some homeowners, it makes perfect sense to lease, while for others it makes sense to buy or finance a system. Solar leases are useful if you don’t know how long you will stay in your home. Many who choose to purchase believe they will remain in their current home for a minimum of 10 years. When considering a purchase, do your homework and understand that your long-term solar investment will be a long-term solution.
