THE SCIENCE OF STRETCHING AND FLEXIBILITY TRAINING : INTENSIVE Experts in the field of stretching agree that stretching doesn’t actually make muscles permanently longer. Instead, stretching or reaching for your toes, trains the nervous system to tolerate a greater degree of muscle tension before firing off pain signals. In this workshop we will take a deeper look into what improves flexibility and what doesn’t. We will examine various techniques and provide you with the most safe and effective ways to stretch, enhance flexibility and improve mobility. We will dive into reciprocal inhibition, the stretch reflex and how to retrain the nervous system as the nervous system is the master conductor when it comes to determining how far a person can stretch. FUNCTIONAL ANATOMY : INTENSIVE Our Functional Anatomy Course will prepare you for the mUvmethod Intensive Level 1 Training. It can also serve as a refresher for those wanting to brush up on their knowledge of the human body. This course utilizes lectures, demonstrations and movement to teach basic anatomy essentials. Along with a 3 hour cadaver lab experience. The focus is on anatomical terminology, planes of motion and the various movements available at the joints. You will learn the majority of the bones in the body and their role in compression and determining one’s maximum range of motion. Along with muscle groups and their origins, insertions and actions. Select yoga postures and Pilates exercises will be broken down to gain a deeper understanding of the functional anatomy at play and how the human body works. Participants will enhance their teaching skills and improve exercise and posture selection and programming. CADAVER LAB AND MYOFASCIAL MERIDIANS : INTENSIVE Course will take place in two parts. Part one will be in a studio setting with where some lecture and practice procedures will be presented, reviewed and discussed. Part two will take place in a lab setting where students will utilize human cadaver dissections in order to gain a thorough understanding of the major muscle groups throughout the body (i.e. superior limb, inferior limb, body wall, and extensor muscles) and gain a thorough understanding of the nerves that form the brachial and lumbosacral plexuses.
