Escambia County Medical Society (E.C.M.S.)
The Escambia County Medical Society in conjunction with Santa Rosa County [E.C.M.S.] is a local professional association of medical doctors and doctors of osteopathy (M.D.’s & D.O.’s), that addresses political, social, and economic issues concerning the level and delivery of healthcare for patients and physicians. Started in 1873, the non-profit E.C.M.S. represents over 400 physicians living or working in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties of Northwest Florida.
Mission:
The mission of the Escambia County Medical Society is to advance physicians’ practice of medicine in our community.
Vision:
Tradition – Honoring the history of medical care in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Service – Serving the needs of our community through the service of our members in the practice of medicine.
Leadership – Meeting the challenges of the future and safeguarding our community’s health through organized collaboration on the local, state, and national level.
Functioning as the Champions of Healthcare by:
• Nurturing all physicians to seek self-improvement, leadership abilities, and volunteer opportunities within our community and state;
• Serving as advocates for patients by encouraging physicians to pursue high standards in medical care, education, and ethics;
• Promoting access to quality healthcare for all citizens in the local community, regardless of ability to pay for such services;
• Promoting the unity, harmony, and welfare of the medical profession
Some of our activities:
• Offer membership to all qualified physicians in our area
• Encourage continuing medical education and accreditation
• Liaison with public health agencies
• Physician meetings featuring current topics concerning healthcare
• Communicate information through our newsletter, The Bulletin.
• Actively seek the legislative process to improve availability of quality healthcare for all citizens, regardless of ability to pay
• Respect and facilitate the coordination of physician-specialty society efforts
• Maintain honest communication with the media
• Encourage members to volunteer in our community
