MESSAGE FROM THE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD CHAIRMAN – JAKE RENFROE There has been a great deal of research lately on the benefits of exercise and how it leads to living long, healthy, happy lives. We are certainly lucky in Pensacola to have 92 parks and 16 facilities on 600 acres to help you achieve your exercise and recreation goals. If you’d like to play a round of golf or a couple of sets of tennis, or simply go for a walk or run on a path through a manicured park, we’ve probably got what you want. In our beautiful community and resource centers located throughout the City, there are nearly 200 structured programs designed for children, adults, and seniors to fit any need. You’ll find camps, after school care, art classes, yoga, karate, libraries, computers, indoor sports, outdoor sports, and much more. Each center offers different programming, and all of our centers are usually within a few blocks of your neighborhood. This comprehensive guide lists the events and programs happening this time of year, so look through it and call the resource center nearest you for details and the latest goings on. If you have any questions or comments, or if you’d like to get involved as a volunteer, please contact me or the staff in Neighborhood Services by phone or email any time. We would love to hear from you. As the Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Board, I encourage you to get involved with the recreation programs in our City. There is something for all ages, so join a boot camp, or a kickball league, take a class, or take your child to a class or camp. You’ll be glad you did! Jake Renfroe, III Chairman, Parks and Recreation Board jakerenfroe@cox.net
