Welcome to Gulf Breeze! As you open this Relocation Guide for Gulf Breeze, you will learn that you have found paradise. We are blessed to be near some of the whitest beaches on the planet, and yet we are one of the most affordable communities in Florida. Gulf Breeze is a relatively small community that is full of great activities, friendly neighborhoods, and a welcoming business climate. The Gulf Breeze Area Chamber is an integral part of our community. The Chamber provides visitor and newcomer information, business networking events, and economic development and governmental affairs support. Many new residents to Gulf Breeze list our school system as the main reason they moved here. Our schools consistently rank in the top three districts in the state. Local parents are very involved in the education process. They partner with teachers and administrators to provide the framework for academic excellence. Needless to say, the scholarships earned by Gulf Breeze students demonstrate that they are among the top students in the nation. While people may think Florida is a great place to vacation, many have also found that Gulf Breeze is a great place to work. Several large national firms have relocated to Gulf Breeze and new businesses are always popping up. Not only is the area attractive to tourism-based businesses, but we have thriving customer service, medical, construction, real estate, and technological sectors as well. Our growing economic base helps to support our residents and to enhance the experience of the community as a whole. What an amazing start to 2014 the City of Gulf Breeze has had. With the “ice storm” in January, we are looking forward to spring’s beautiful weather with great anticipation. What better way to do this then by getting involved with the City’s “HEAL Gulf Breeze! Healthy Eating Active Lifestyle” program. HEAL Gulf Breeze is a program focused on assisting our city in becoming more active and eating healthier. Eating healthier can be as simple as eating smaller portions, less sugar, more fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains. Increasing your activity by walking just 30 minutes a day is a great way to stay active and has tremendous benefits. A wonderful place to walk, run, or bike is on our new sidewalk at Shoreline Park. It is so quiet and peaceful you will think you are out in the country. The other new sidewalk begins on South Sunset Drive, defining the north side of Shoreline Park, and ends at the library. These sidewalks are six feet wide and ideal for a 30 minute brisk walk or jog. There are numerous other sporting activities available throughout the City such as basketball, tennis, paddle boarding, or kayaking. Please periodically visit our website (www.cityofgulfbreeze.com) for HEAL Gulf Breeze! events that will be scheduled throughout the year. The first event will be for the unveiling and demonstration of the City’s new outdoor exercise equipment. We hope to hold this event in April but be sure to visit our website for the date and time. The Gulf Breeze Community Center is in full swing with our newly renovated facility. We offer numerous activities from youth sports, exercise classes, basketball, tennis, and so much more. After purchasing the Tiger Point Golf Club over a year ago, the City continues to renovate and improve the golf courses and facilities. is a close-knit, relaxed community nestled in the veritable paradise of the northwest Florida panhandle. It is one of the many thriving areas located along east-west interstate Highway 98 and in the Pensacola Metropolitan Statistical Area. Gulf Breeze is a waterfront community of 28,000 residents in Santa Rosa County. It sits on a peninsula that is surrounded by Santa Rosa Sound to the south and Pensacola Bay to the north. Gulf Breeze residents enjoy a quiet, smalltown atmosphere tucked between the historic city of Pensacola and the beautiful

PENSACOLA/ESCAMBIA COUNTY Pensacola is a mid-sized city that has a strong historical past, a rich cultural heritage, and an economic future that benefits its neighbor, Gulf Breeze, just three easy miles over the Pensacola Bay Bridge. Although Native American’s called this region home, Don Tristan de Luna’s landing in 1559 began the “City of Five Flags’” destiny. Its history, deep southern roots and ethnic diversity enhances the cultural expression available in local art galleries, theatre, dance and symphony productions, outdoor concerts and many annual festivals. Pensacola is also a great destination for the sports enthusiast, whether an active athlete or spectator. Pensacola is the largest municipality in Escambia County and through the efforts of Vision 2015, it is on the verge of renewed economic growth. Pensacola’s largest business sectors are the military,

medical facilities, educational institutions, banking and tourism. It is home to Pensacola International Airport, Pensacola Naval Air Station, the University of West Florida, Pensacola State College, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (Class AA baseball team) and the Port of Pensacola. Escambia County has two beach communities: Pensacola Beach and Perdido. Perdido is on the western side of Pensacola. It is a beautiful gulf front destination, a quiet getaway on the Alabama border. PENSACOLA BEACH Pensacola Beach, on Santa Rosa Island to the east of Pensacola, is Gulf Breeze’s Gulf of Mexico playground; it is just a quick ride across the Bob Sikes Bridge from downtown Gulf Breeze. It has many hotels, condominiums and rental homes for guests. And a diversity of restaurants and shops as well as great water sports opportunities, including fishing, jet skiing, paddle boarding and much more. It provides many annual concerts, festivals and holiday events, including hosting the Navy’s Blue Angels flight team in July. It is also home to historic Fort Pickens and the Gulf Islands National Seashore. NAVARRE Navarre is Gulf Breeze’s eastern neighbor in Santa Rosa County. Like Gulf Breeze, it is a jewel on Highway 98, but it can also be reached by a leisurely, scenic drive from Pensacola Beach to Navarre Beach along Santa Rosa Island. Navarre is an unincorporated community whose main economic drivers are tourism and Hurlburt Air Force Base just a few miles down the road. MILTON/PACE Milton is the county seat for Santa Rosa County. Pace is its neighbor along Highway 90. With their central location in the rural part of the Florida panhandle, north of Interstate 10, both have different business sectors than Gulf Breeze. They have well established large industry and developable industrial parks as well as an active farming community. Milton is also home to Whiting Field, a Navy flight training base. These communities benefit from the same high quality education as Gulf Breeze. Because of their beautiful forested setting, showcased at Blackwater River State Park, they are the perfect destination for the fresh water fishing/boating enthusiast, avid bikers and hikers and are well-known as the “Canoe Capital of Florida.”

The Gulf Breeze Fire Department delivers the best possible service within the city limits and to outlying areas. The Gulf Breeze Police Department is accredited by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) since 1998. This year the Parks and Recreation Department will complete a major renovation to the recreation center and other multiuse property. The Department also manages Tiger Point Golf Club which the City purchased in late 2012. City of Gulf Breeze

The City of Gulf Breeze covers the land at the tip of the Santa Rosa County peninsula from the Pensacola Bay Bridge to the Naval Live Oaks/Gulf Islands National Seashore Preserve. It is governed by an elected mayor and four City Council members who meet in regular session at City Hall, (1020 Shoreline Drive,) on the first and third Monday evenings of the month. All Council meetings are public. An appointed City Manager is responsible for the day-to-day work of the City. City

Santa Rosa County has jurisdiction over the services of the unincorporated portion of Gulf Breeze extending from the Naval Live Oaks Preserve to approximately Edgewater Drive just before HolleyNavarre. It is under the care of the Santa Rosa County Sheriffâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Department (extension office) and Midway Fire District (1322 College Pkwy.). All County services are governed by the Board of Commissioners (6495 Caroline Street) in Milton. Each commissioner is elected by the constituency of the County and serves a specific district. The Board appoints an administrator to oversee the day-to-day affairs of the County. The Commission meets in regular session at 9 AM on the second and fourth Thursday of the month in the Administrative Center in Milton. For some musical inspiration, head into Pensacola for a Pensacola Symphony or Civic Band concert, a production of the Pensacola Opera, the talented Pensacola Children’s Chorus, Gulf Coast Chorale or Joe Occhipinti’s Big Band. The Saenger Theatre and Pensacola Bay Center also host many renowned Broadway and musical sensations throughout the year. Throughout the summer enjoy free outdoor concerts every Tuesday night on Pensacola Beach. There is also a Jazz Festival in the spring in Seville Square, a Bonfire Jam in Jay in December and on Pensacola Beach in June for country music lovers, and other music events peppered throughout the area’s calendar. For sports enthusiasts, get out your giant foam fingers and cheer on the 2013 Southern Professional Hockey League champions, the Pensacola Ice Flyers hockey team. There are also various college teams at Pensacola State College or the University of West Florida athletic facilities. Pensacola’s newest addition to its sports repertoire is its Double-A Cincinnati Reds affiliate, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos baseball team. In their brand new waterfront stadium overlooking Pensacola Bay, the Wahoos made a huge splash during their opening season in the summer of 2012. Outdoors lovers will relish being in Gulf Breeze, a city surrounded on three sides by water with an average of 300 sunny days per year allowing for plenty of opportunity to enjoy the coastal waters. But the Gulf of Mexico is certainly not the only source of recreational activity in the city. More than half of the City of Gulf Breeze’s acreage is comprised of parkland. There are 517 acres, to be exact, devoted just to recreation so that you can explore your adventurous side, and 15 public parks and recreation locations make up that area. In 2012 a newly renovated and improved recreation center was added to Gulf Breeze, and a state of the art community center is currently under construction in

Tiger Point. Recreation around Gulf Breeze is not limited to parks and water, though. There’s diving, hiking, camping, and many more activities, including 40 golf courses within 100 miles, public and private tennis courts, nature trails, camping and RV areas, and Civil War-era forts to visit. Local rental shops offer sailing, surfing, kayaking, and paddleboarding, and they will have the most inexperienced visitor navigating the waters in no time at all. Fishing is available from several fishing piers, and no fishing license is required when fishing from piers. You can even dive the retired Navy aircraft carrier the USS Oriskany, which was sunk about 24 miles off the coast of Pensacola in 2006 to become the largest artificial reef in the world, spanning more that 888 feet in length. schools in Florida are located in Santa Rosa County. Gulf Breeze area’s five schools rank as the best of the best in the state and are competitive with their peers nationally. Gulf Breeze students consistently score well above state averages on all standardized examinations and have repeatedly earned “Five Star School Awards.” Each school has been a recipient of a “Golden School Award” for volunteer hours and enjoys the distinction of being a “Red Carpet School,” because they are both community and parentfriendly. The Santa Rosa County School Board prides itself on doing less with more as education dollars tighten. Its progressive thinking encourages creative application in its teachers and administrators. Learning begins early with strong preschool providers in the area and a state mandated volunteer prekindergarten program. Gulf Breeze Elementary and Middle Schools maintain high standards of education. Teachers, students, parents, volunteers and community leaders are part of a team that takes pride in working hard to help students succeed. Each school utilizes technology and creative learning experiences as well as opportunities to compete through reading, scientific, historical, musical and oratorical competitions to reach this goal. The schools are also recognized for building community awareness by offering opportunities for community service and outreach. Gulf Breeze High School (GBHS) builds on the foundation set at the lower grades with a rigorous curriculum aimed at challenging all students to achieve their fullest potential. A visionary in education, GBHS hosts career academies that offer students small, personalized learning settings focused on given career tracks. GBHS also encourages 11th and 12th graders to take advantage of the Dual Enrollment program with Pensacola State College. Students who complete this program can graduate with their high school diploma and an associate degree at the same time. GBHS also has students who move into the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program at Pensacola High School.

GBHS students are also widely recognized statewide and nationally for their achievements outside of the classroom in JRROTC, newspaper and journalism as well as award-winning teams in debate, drama, science Olympiad and math. Gulf Breeze has drawn a number of specialty clinics to the area including optical centers, dentist offices, chiropractic clinics and rehabilitation centers, many of which have undergone recent renovations to include the latest medical technology. There are many quality pharmacies serving the area, some of which offer home delivery. For Gulf Breeze’s homebound residents, there are a number of home health agencies to choose from, and there are many adult day care and assisted living facilities available. Baptist Health Care Baptist Health Care is a network of healthcare facilities that includes four hospitals as well as medical parks and specialized centers. The hospitals under the Baptist Health Care umbrella include Gulf Breeze Hospital, Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Atmore Community Hospital and Jay Hospital, and each of these provide all private rooms to patients to better promote healing in privacy. The organization also includes several medical parks and other facilities including the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine. The network employs more than 6,400 people, making it the largest non-governmental employer in northwest Florida. Baptist has received numerous awards over the years and in 2013 it became a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, giving its physicians access to the latest in Mayo Clinic research and treatment options and putting it on the cutting edge of healthcare innovations in a setting close to patients’ homes. Gulf Breeze Hospital The recently renovated Gulf Breeze hospital has been providing quality, patient-centered care since 1985. In 2011, a $5 million expansion added 10,000 square feet, increased the number of beds from 65 to 77 and created several new specialty staff positions. The hospital offers a 24-hour emergency center, an eight-bed intensive care unit and Baptist LifeFlight, which can be airborne within minutes of an emergency. Gulf Breeze Hospital is also home to the Ciano Cancer Center, South Santa Rosa’s only complete cancer treatment facility. The Ciano Center offers a range of treatment options including surgery, infusion, oncology and radiation treatments in a setting that promotes healing and comfort.A 30,000-square-foot medical office building is connected to the hospital and is home to physicians’ specialists in cardiology, gynecology, dermatology, general surgery, psychiatry, orthopedics and more. The Andrews Institute In 2007, Baptist Health Care opened a world class institute for orthopaedics and sports medicine in Gulf Breeze, with the leadership and reputation of internationally Renowned orthopaedic surgeon James Andrews, MD. Santa Rosa County, the home of Gulf Breeze, is geographically unique in that it has two distinct business cultures governed by one overseeing economic development vision. The rural north end of the county is industrial and agricultural in nature while maintaining a strong small business sector and a growing tourism industry. Gulf Breeze, in the south end with close proximity to the beaches, has developed into a strong small business community with an emphasis on the service and tourism industries and nationally recognized medical facilities as well as larger technology based industry. Santa Rosa County is strategically placed in Florida’s aerospace and defense corridor which includes Naval Air Station Whiting Field in Milton, Naval Air Station Pensacola, Hurlburt and Eglin Air Force Base in Okaloosa County and Tyndale Air Force Base in Panama City. Santa Rosa County has a strong approach to economic growth. The five local chambers, including the Gulf Breeze Area Chamber, are united in the Santa Rosa Business Coalition.
