Get Jazzy for Justice at Foo Foo Fest By Dawn Gresko

The Legal Services of North Florida (LSNF) is proud to announce Jazz for Justice will be joining the Foo Foo Fest on Sunday, Nov. 15, from 12 to 3 pm in the SOGO District of Downtown Pensacola. “There’s no need to get dressed up,” said Mary Dekle, resource developer at LSNF. “Come as you are and be prepared to have marvelous fun dancing in the streets. We’ll have great music that really gets your toes tapping.” LSNF has been serving the residents of north Florida for nearly 40 years. For 19 years, Jazz for Justice has been the LSNF’s signature fundraising event. All proceeds go toward providing civil legal representation to domestic violence victims, the elderly, children and poverty-level families in danger of losing their homes. In total, Jazz for Justice has raised over $525,000 to enable the LSNF to continue their important work. Sponsors for the Pensacola event include Bay County Bar Association, Paul Schofield Law Firm, Roly Poly, Levin Law Firm, attorneys Will Nelson and Jason Cromey, Phillip Igney, Beggs & Lane RLLP, Stevenson Klotz, Valerie Prevatte P.A., Bodacious, Innisfree, and Blues Angel Music. Other sponsors are Hall, Prangle & Schooveld LLC, North Republic Relations, Cox Communications, News 1620, Cat Country 98.7 and, of course, the Foo Foo Festival. Jazz for Justice has been up and running in 16 counties across northwest Florida, but this is the first year the event will grace the streets of Downtown Pensacola with performances by 20 musicians and four groups. Listen for Chicago blues-style sounds from Randall “Big Daddy” Webster & Red Hot Java, some light and breezy jazz by Caravan, and the UWF Jazz Combo. Other event attractions include First City Art Center’s glass blowing presentation, a silent auction, as well as food and beverages supplied by the Bodacious family of shops along with other SOGO merchants. The UWF Jazz Combo will kick off at noon followed by Caravan at 1 pm and Randall “Big Daddy” Webster & Red Hot Java at 2 pm. “We applied for a grant from the Foo Foo Festival in April of 2015,” said Dekle. “In June, we received word that we had been accepted into the festival with a grant of $7,550. We have been planning for the event ever since.” LSNF has collaborated with the City of Pensacola, the Bodacious family of shops, and other SOGO merchants for streets closures and staging along South Palafox Street between Zaragossa and Main. Get Jazzy for Justice at Foo Foo Fest (Continued) The idea to bring Jazz for Justice to Pensacola arose after the LSNF saw the event’s success in nearby Tallahassee, Fla. In spring of 2015, Tallahassee’s Jazz for Justice event raised a total of $15,000 from the silent auction alone. This year’s silent auction in Downtown Pensacola will include fabulous, fantasy trips to the British Isles and the South Beach Food Festival. There will also be artwork up for grabs, such as a Willoweise Langham watercolor painting and a custom glassblown piece from First City Art Center. Other gift packages include a gift certificate to Jackson’s Steakhouse, a weekend package at the Plantation on Crystal River, a romantic evening at New World Inn, a VIP ticket package to the Eye Ball, as well as golf lessons and a round of golf for four in North Carolina. But it doesn’t end there; more goodies include a guitar from Blues Angel Music, a framed and signed Yogi Berra memorabilia collection, a golf bag, Chelsea House pair of cockatoos, and a quarter page ad in either 850 or EC magazines ($1,500 value). Silent auction tents open at noon and run until 2:45 pm. This year’s Jazz for Justice t-shirts were designed by Fran Mathis, a 90-year-old artist from Crawfordville who also designs the Jazz for Justice poster. Fran’s artwork, “Red Jazz Blues,” will be featured on the front of the t-shirt. All Jazz for Justice sponsors and entertainers will have their names featured on the back. T-shirts will be for sale at $20 each and may be ordered online with either tank top or long sleeve alternate options. The LSNF relies on the commitment of sponsors, donors and partners to help fund the events and continue providing hope and justice for all, especially those within our community facing continued economic strife. LSNF is now soliciting additional sponsors, artists and silent auction donors for the event, so if you are interested please call Leah at 850-432-2329 or contact her by email at leah@lsnf.org for sponsorship information. Sponsorships start at $250. General admission tickets are $20 for adults and children under the age of 12 get in for free. Patron tickets are available for $100 and includes two VIP tickets, which grant admittance to the VIP Mimosa Lounge featuring the Jim Andrews Trio. For tickets or information call 850-432-2329, stop by the LSNF office at 1741 N. Palafox St., or visit jazzforjustice.org.
