ANNOUNCEMENTS Our March meeting started with Mr Raymond Kelly from Lomond Pharmacy giving some background to his proposed application for an independent Pharmacy within Pitcairn Practice building. Unfortunately Fife NHS found a legal technicality in the first questionnaire sent round which made it unusable so the exercise has to be repeated with a revised version. We are allowed a limited amount of leaflets to go around the village so we would ask those who received the questionnaire to please complete it and return it to the surgery or box on the selves at the post office counter. Comments are also requested by email or letter before the end of March as evidence is needed to prove that a Pharmacy in Balmullo is both necessary and desirable. Fife Police are still finalising training arrangements for the Community Speed Watch

Community Council Scheme and no firm dates are available yet. RAF Leuchars has been chosen to provide the Typhoon Display Team (1 aircraft) for 2012. Practice displays will begin from 19th March but will be over the south side of the airfield and restricted to 8.00-8.45; 12.30-13.15; and 16.0016.45. Significant work is going ahead on the Tay Road Bridge access ramps due to demolition of Tayside House and will mean just one southbound access ramp from late May 2012 till the end of 2013. Some irresponsible dog owners have been leaving “bags” in the hedges and verges along Clay Road. Dog warden has been alerted, please report anything you see. Our next meeting is Monday 9th April at 7.30pm in Burnside Hall.

EDITORIAL I attended the RAF Forum a week ago and heard what comments were available from the base. There has been no Army personnel at those meetings for some time so can give no insight as to whether they will be here or not! There will be extra flying during mid April by a Joint Warrior section of Hawks and French Alpha. Should be more details in the daily press nearer the time. The Airshow, still being planned for 15th September, will be a Tri Service with the RAF, the Army and the Royal Marines. I also attended the Police Forum on Tuesday and was assured that they are keeping a watch on the parking at the school. It is intended to have the zigzag lines repainted and also to have double yellow lines around the corners. They

Ina Cameron have said they will also apply fines where necessary for bad parking. They have been successful with the speed guns each time they have targeted the village. They are also joining forces with the dog warden to try and catch some of the unthinking dog owners. We have tried to brighten up the newsletter for Easter with some colour pages again. As you will see the covers have been supplied by the children of the local school. Unfortunately we are not able to print all the pictures we were given but have chosen at least one from each of the classes. We think they are all fabulous and we feel there are some real budding artists coming from Balmullo Primary!

BALMULLO 200 CLUB The Balmullo 200 Club was set up to provide income for the Community Council, partly to support the Newsletter but also to raise funds for various community activities or projects, such as floral displays and the annual Gala.

Community Council towards this aim.

Over 700 copies of the Newsletter are distributed each month, but our income from the 200 Club averages just over £400, so there is obvious scope for more recipients of the Our hard-working editor, Ina Cameron, seeks Newsletter to join and contribute £1 per month. new members each month with a little note Either call Ina at 870253 or e-mail her at beside the list of monthly prize winners. 8 PHARMACY APPLICATION – IMPORTANT!

Andrew Falconer

Mr Raymond Kelly of Lomond Pharmacy Ltd. is considering submitting an application for a local Pharmacy in Balmullo. It is envisaged that the Pharmacy will be situated within the Pitcairn Practice building and have opening hours that mirror those of the Doctors’ Surgery. Before an application can be submitted, new regulations require that there is a consultation period whereby all local residents are invited to comment on this proposal. We need to provide evidence that a Balmullo Pharmacy is both necessary and desirable to assist with this application. The recent consultation that was carried out in February has been ruled ineligible due to a technicality, so unfortunately the questionnaire distribution has had to be carried out again. 400 questionnaires have been issued randomly around the village, but additional support would be very welcome, whether or not you have completed a questionnaire. If you wish, please send your comments / suggestions no later than Friday 30th March 2012, by e-mail to Fife-UHB.CP6231-lomondfalkland@nhs.net or by letter to

Lomond Pharmacy Ltd. The Cross, Falkland, Fife, KY15 7BU

PHARMACY APPLICATION The consultation period has been extended until the 2nd April and it would be helpful if you could e-mail Raymond Kelly at lomondpharmacy@hotmail.co.uk and let him know your views on the proposed new pharmacy at the Doctors' Surgery in Balmullo. Please, please let your feelings be known, either good or bad, on this very important proposal. LEUCHARS & DISTRICT GARDENING AND CRAFTS CLUB

Leslie Bisset

Thanks to a stunning display of craft products from stallholders with a wide variety of enviable talents and skills, and very healthy support from members and friends, the Crafts Evening on Thursday 8th March was very successful. 12 tables of well-designed, stylish, modern jewellery; innovatively crafted cards for all occasions; some splendid examples of the artful use of glass, etched, painted and stained; high-standard wood-carving from exotic timbers in a range of designs; paintings particularly of local landscapes; artwork both modern and traditional; intriguing pots and signs; tempting breads, cakes and biscuits and, finally, beautifully designed, coloured beeswax candles, encouraged the audience to open their wallets. And the evening was also enlightening: the domestic environmental advantages of beeswax candles being just one of several useful gleanings. A drop of wine, a soft drink and some nibbles, finishing with a generously supported raffle made this also a very pleasant social occasion. The next evening event will be on 12th April in the Burnside Hall when Graeme Butler from one of Scotland’s top alpine nurseries will talk on alpines and other small garden plants. Starting at 7.30 pm, it will be illustrated with Graeme’s quality photography and there will be plants for sale. All welcome. YPR UPDATE

Cameron, Danielle and Lewis

The YPR Group met on Monday 14th March to discuss ways in which to take the group forward. We have a lot of ideas for the next 12 months and will hopefully begin to implement these ideas later in the year. We will not be meeting in April or May due to exams, so our next meeting will be on Monday 11th June. Keep your eyes peeled in the newsletter and on Facebook for further updates between now and then! CLAIRVOYANT NIGHT

BALMULLO S.W.R.I.

Ann Falconer President Ann Falconer welcomed members to the meeting on Thursday 3 rd March. Two of our members, Doreen Hopkins and Penny Wiles, are also members of Cupar Quilters Group and brought along samples of the Group’s work. Their chosen theme for 2011 was Holidays and the samples showed cities and countries throughout the world which members had visited. There was a wide variety of fabrics and textures and great imagination was shown in the designs. Our members had time to study the samples closely and were suitably impressed with the high level of skills demonstrated. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening and Ann Falconer gave a vote of thanks. Competition winners: 3 Rock Buns Sewn Pincushion Flower of the month

FIFE FOLK MUSEUM Fife Folk Museum is running a programme of local walks led by Professor John McManus, a geologist. BALMULLO PRIMARY SCHOOL Well Done! I mentioned in my last update that our nursery children were involved in raising funds for Marie Curie Cancer care and had been growing bulbs to sell at a small coffee morning. As a result of this coffee morning the nursery raised a grand total of £663.50, all of which will be used to support the ongoing work of the Marie Curie nurses in the local area. A huge thank you to all of those from within the community who were able to come along and support this worthwhile event.

FIFE THISTLE FOOTBALL CLUB

Colin Murray

With 3 Fife AFA League Division One games played in March, Fife Thistle followed a 2-1 away defeat to Auchtermuchty Bellvue with a 2-2 draw away to Burntisland United and then a resounding 5-1 win at home to Rosyth Wanderers making it a bit of a mixed bag for March so far and with the Balmullo side involved in a relegation dogfight involving no fewer than 7 sides there will be plenty of highs and lows in the games to come. If you want to pop along and offer your support then upcoming fixtures can be found in the St. Andrews Citizen, the Balmullo Inn notice board or by visiting www.fifethistle.co.uk Saturday 3rd March 2012 Auchtermuchty Bellvue 2 v 1 Fife Thistle - Scorer – Gorgon Team - Sullivan, Dunn, Ross, Robertson (Capt.), Dawkins (Laing 83), Halley (Thaw 55), Stuart, Webster (Chaplin 83), Tulleth, Kirby, Gorgon.
