ANNOUNCEMENTS We had 13 members of the public at our October meeting which was very good, thank you for coming. The following items were discussed. We understand the planning application for the MUGA will be considered by Fife Council on 24th October. At present you will see that the Park is having an update of play equipment for the children. A good job of cutting the hedges around the school has been completed by D & E Johnston Garden Services this year again. The new bin collections start on Monday 15th October. Parking around the school has been an issue for some time and it is now proposed that double yellow lines should be painted on Hayston Park from Lomond Place up to the junction of School Road and continuing round to the pedestrian crossing. This may take a little time to be agreed and completed but it will be worth it in the long run. The new Madras College replacement is still awaiting a decision as to where it will be sited. Because of the dark nights dog fouling is again on the increase. The new dog wardens are prepared to come out in the evenings so we will alert them of all the problem areas and hope it helps. Several people have now been fined so be careful that it is not you next time!
EDITORIAL I attended the RAF Forum on Tuesday night where we were updated on the position at Leuchars. They were delighted with this year’s Air Show which had a wonderful turn out and the weather was perfect. All seemed to go very well and the parking had no problems this year with rain and soggy ground. They are hoping for a similar situation next year as no news has come through of a possible clearance date. In other words they will stay ‘till they are told to go! As yet there is nothing new on the Army personnel who might be based at Leuchars. The increased flying over the last couple of weeks
BURNS CLUB
COMMUNITY COUNCIL The pharmacy application is being considered by Fife PPC towards the end of October. We now have Website Advertising, for those interested we will be charging £30 per annum but your advert must also go into the Newsletter. There are loft insulation improvements on the go around the village. Should they approach you please ensure that any such visit has been arranged through Home Energy Scotland agreement with Fife Council and insist on proper documentation. All walks with the Paths Group start at 1pm and not 2pm as stated in last month’s Newsletter. This is to ensure you are all back home before it is dark. After the success of last year’s Carol Singing Concert it was agreed we should try to organise a similar event. No details are available at present but Sunday 16th December is a probable date for this. More details next month. We will hope to have a Christmas Tree as usual on the Main Road at No 11. The Events in Fife brochure is available to all and should you wish to publicise a future event in the next issue either use the on-line submission or contact Sue Smith for a paper copy. (870221).
Our next meeting is Monday 12th November, hope to see you there. INA CAMERON was in support for exercise JOINT WARRIOR which is a multinational exercise conducted in the Spring and Autumn of each year. There will also be increased levels of flying including limited night and weekend flying with planes from Canada, France and a detachment of German Air Force Tornado aircraft. Please remember if anyone is interested there is always a copy of our Community Council Minutes available to read or copy on our shelves at the post office. Articles for the next newsletter should be sent to me by 12th November.
GRACE STEVEN
On Wednesday 19th September the Balmullo Burns Club had an enjoyable evening’s entertainment. This was provided by Robert Kerr, Dunfermline and Lesley Thompson, Cupar. Lesley on violin accompanied by Robert and Robert sometimes on harp singing Burns’ songs. Robert also gave some sets on accordion. The next event is the St Andrews night dance on Friday 30th November with Deirdrie Adamson’s Band. New members are most welcome, or just come along and enjoy the entertainment. It only costs £1 per entry per month, and you can enter as many times as you like. We are currently trying to raise money for various Balmullo community activities and projects.
LEUCHARS & DISTRICT GARDENING AND CRAFTS CLUB The Club’s Coffee Morning on 29th September could be described as small but almost perfectly formed. Though the numbers were down, it was a very friendly, enjoyable social occasion - and the Club made small profit. A big thank-you to all those who supported our efforts at this and other events throughout the year. The Autumn Flower Show will be on Saturday 27th October in the Burnside Hall when the dedicated chrysanthemum growers will strut their stuff. Possibly one of the most difficult flowers to grow to perfection, they are a feature of autumn and have a very telling presence at late shows. A sight well worth seeing. Let us hope that the less than ideal growing conditions of 2012 haven’t put a damper on this annual test of the growers’ skills. Doors open at 1.30 p.m. and the entry is £2.00. On 8th November the theme will be crafts, with demonstrations of a stained glass, card-making, small wool animals, painting, fretwork and
BALMULLO WRI’S DIAMOND JUBILEE Ann Falconer presided as Balmullo WRI celebrated their 60th birthday with a special party on 4th October in Burnside Hall. Our members and local guests were joined by National Junior Vicechairman Agnes Clark, Fife Federation secretary Val Garland and representatives of the seven other institutes in the Cupar area. Around 70 enjoyed an excellent meal and entertainment provided by local group The Humdingers. The Diamond Jubilee cake was cut by the President and 2 founder members Mary Campbell and Sybil Muir. 14 members were awarded Loyalty Certificates and Mary Campbell

knitting in which visitors are invited to participate. There may be some items for sale. Doors open at 7.30 p.m.. Entry £2.00, with a free glass of wine. From the point of view of the Club, the most important meeting of the year could be the A.G.M. on Wednesday 21 November at 7 p.m. at which several key members are due to retire. Anyone with the interests of this locally important group at heart, with a few hours per month to spare, would be welcomed. The Secretary and Treasure posts will be vacant, but both the present incumbents would be willing to help and support newcomers: neither post takes up an inordinate amount of time, and for those with computer skills, even less. At a time when home food-production is gaining ground, your help is urgently needed to ensure that this Club, which has been in existence for three quarters of a century, continues to serve the community.
ANN FALCONER was made an Honorary Member after 60 years of loyal service. The event was made possible through financial assistance from Balmullo Community Council, Fife Community Events Grant Scheme and the lottery Awards for All. Our next meeting is our annual business meeting on Thursday 1st November at 7.15 pm in Burnside Hall. We are also having a visit from the Red Cross, who will be selling a selection of Christmas Cards and gifts. New members are always welcome.
BALMULLO NURSERY MACMILLAN BIG COFFEE MORNING & AFTERNOON The nursery would like to thank everyone who came along to support our day. The children all enjoyed singing to you and we raised £218.40 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Thank you for your continued support. - Lisa Duncan (Early Years Officer)

MONTEATHS Accountants and Tax Consultants APPOINTMENTS: MORNING, AFTERNOON or EVENING OUR OFFICE, YOUR HOME or PREMISES Businesses where Home is Office
Business travel when it starts from home may be disputed by HMRC if they can construe that is not really a place of business too. It is worth reviewing to ensure that the home is office primarily. Using a corner of the kitchen table or half a bedroom is not sufficient. If HMRC prove their case then it is likely your travel claim could be decimated. Then they calculate back for several years, add interest and a penalty. Assume current travel claim includes a daily trip to Dundee. 7miles x 2 return x 5days x 48wks @45p = £1512 at tax 20% & Nic 9% = £438. X 5yrs add interest –say £500, plus penalty say 35% total £3630 to be paid NOW. PAUL STOCKTON In September, we lost a real community spirited man. For those who did not know Paul, he was wonderful raconteur and bon viveur. He also produced wonderful and vibrant photographs. He also always found time the help our community, quietly, and in the background. Every year he cheerfully flipped burgers at the Gala for your enjoyment. And every year he kindly allowed the village to use his electricity and site for the Village Christmas tree. Paul wasn't in the best of heath, but didn't complain, he just got on with life, whilst always helping others. We at the Balmullo Community Council would like to extend our sincere condolences to Pauls wife, Jacqueline, his family, and all his friends. Paul will be missed. (Ed.)
JACQUELINE STOCKTON I have a few thank you’s I would like to make. Firstly to the Reverend Caroline Taylor for her wonderful service at my husband Paul’s funeral. To everyone who attended at the Crematorium, and to all those who sent flowers and cards. Your kindness and concern is much appreciated. My many relatives who arrived and who visited the village shop all said how friendly everyone was. My thanks also to Andrew and Ashley Crookston and their staff at the Balmullo Inn for helping with the success of the day. Finally a big thank you to Allyson Christie for the time and patience she put into making the flower arrangements.
