Now in his fourth year with the Ravens, TE Mark Andrews recently signed a four-year contract extension: “To be able to play for the Ravens, I can’t ask for anything more. I want Baltimore to know that I’m going to give it my all. I’ve talked about the main goal, and that’s to win a Super Bowl – that’s what we’re going to do.”

“It’s a new year – new people, new faces, new schemes, new things – we’re a different team. We’re just going to continue to work and build in practice, get out there and try to start fast, finish strong and just continue to build on that trend.” – C Bradley Bozeman on the team’s mentality at the start of the season
QB Lamar Jackson
It’s a Sunday Night Football primetime showdown when the Baltimore Ravens (0-1) host the Kansas City Chiefs (1-0) tonight at M&T Bank Stadium. This marks the Ravens’ first home game of the 2021 campaign and the fourth-consecutive year in which these teams have battled each other in regular season play. Under head coach John Harbaugh, the Ravens are 11-2 in home openers, winning five-straight such games. In overall Ravens history, Baltimore is 18-7 in home openers. The Chiefs own a 7-3 regular season series lead vs. Baltimore, last winning a 34-20 at M&T Bank Stadium in 2020. Dating back to 2015, the Chiefs have won four-straight games against the Ravens. Including playoffs, Coach Harbaugh is 3-4 vs. KC. Last Monday (9/13), the Ravens dropped a wild, back-and-forth contest at Las Vegas, falling 33-27 in overtime when QB Derek Carr hit WR Zay Jones for a 31-yard TD with 3:38 remaining. Initially, Baltimore jumped out to an early 14-0 lead and surrendered just 10 points through the opening three quarters. However, Las Vegas stormed back by scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter, including a game-tying field goal in the final 37 seconds of regulation. QB Lamar Jackson finished 19-of-30 passing for 235 yards and 1 TD (10 yards to WR Marquise Brown), adding 86 rushing yards on 12 attempts. Jackson also lost a pair of fumbles, including one in OT that set up the Raiders’ game-winning TD.

ON THE RAVENS' LEADERSHIP:
“I tell our guys, ‘Everybody is a leader.’ We have leaders everywhere in the locker room. We have leaders in position rooms. We have leaders in relationships. We have leaders with their families. We have a bunch of men and women in the organization who lead every single day in their way. We lead one another in our relationships. So, it’s us. It’s us together. We’ve got us; I like us. CAN’T BEAT HIM TO THE PUNCH BY VERNON DENNIS
A
prodigy of an athletically-gifted family, the apple certainly didn’t fall far from the tree when it comes to cornerback Marlon Humphrey. His style of play has captured much attention since his 2017 Charm City arrival. No. 44 has earned two Pro Bowl nods (2019-20) and a first-team All-Pro honor (2019). Humphrey’s game has often been described as physical, disruptive, explosive and tenacious. But it’s his fists, or rather “punch,” that garners many turnovers and game-changing plays for the Ravens’ defense. Humphrey has forced 11 total fumbles during his four-year career, including an astounding eight in 2020. His eight forced fumbles last season surpassed Ravens great Terrell Suggs’ 2011 record for the most in franchise single-season history, and they tied an NFL record for the second most by a defensive
back in a season – a record currently held by longtime defensive back Charles “Peanut” Tilman (10 – 2012). “That’s a big accomplishment for me,” Humphrey said. “When I was a rookie, before I had even played a game, ‘Sizz’ [Terrell Suggs] told me I was the future of this franchise. So, from pretty early on, it seemed like he had some respect for me. To be mentioned with his name in anything is definitely an honor.” Arguably a spin-off to “The Peanut Punch” – named after Tilman – many have deemed Humphrey’s motion of jarring or punching the ball free as “The Fruit Punch.” Social media has certainly taken a liking to the
story behind the naming rights, as Humphrey would recall. “I used to have the Twitter handle ‘Fruit Punch.’ It wasn’t because I was punching the ball out, but it kind of started turning towards that. In order to get verified [on Twitter], I couldn’t be ‘Fruit Punch’ anymore,” Humphrey explained. “So, maybe it can be ‘The Fruit Punch,’ [or] ‘Punch-out.’” Regardless of what fans may call it – let’s call it how it is – Marlon 10 | 2021 BALTIMORE RAVENS GAMEDAY
Humphrey is one of the game’s top defenders, and the Ravens’ coaching staff has certainly taken heed. “I’ve felt like the last year-and-ahalf or so, he’s one of the top corners in the league. I’m talking Top 2, 3, 4 in the league,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said. “Now, everybody else is maybe starting to see what we’ve all seen, because we watch him every single week.” It’s no surprise that Baltimore takes pride in its’ defensive prowess. Humphrey has continued the Ravens’ stout lineage of defensive stalwarts, and he looks forward to the challenge of carrying on the tradition and legacy that so many defensive greats have put in place before him. In terms of impact on the game, Humphrey has already been compared to several Ravens legends.
“Any time you’re compared to the Ray Lewises and the Ed Reeds, it’s definitely always an honor,” noted Humphrey. “This organization is defense, defense, defense, and with those defenses, you’ve got a lot of guys that you think of when you think of those great defenses.” Humphrey’s instinctive sense of awareness when a ball carrier is in his grasp results in him being a true game-wrecker. It doesn’t matter if the ball is high and tight, because more often than not, receivers fall helplessly to the ground in attempt to beat Humphrey to his punch. His playmaking ability continues to ascend and serve as a valuable
asset to Baltimore’s winning ways. If the Ravens hope to capture another Super Bowl ring, Humphrey will certainly be a centerpiece and catalyst on that championship journey. As the mantra goes, “Defense Wins Championships,” and with each Marlon Humphrey “Fruit Punch,” the Ravens creep closer to bringing the Lombardi Trophy back home to the Charm City. 2021 BALTIMORE RAVENS GAMEDAY | 11

tyus bowser
“Tyus is so versatile in everything he does. He’s become a really dominant edge setter in the run game. He’s great in coverage, and it’s not just the plays on the ball, because he has tremendous ball skills – he’s at an elite level there – but what he does that you may not always see is he takes away the open underneath routes or the guy going to the flat. He’s also a really dynamic and dangerous pass rusher for us that can really move across the front. He’s a quiet, cool-demeanor guy, but he’s really a strong leader. He’s got strong leadership, communication traits with the rest of the guys. The team looks up to him. We love him.” – OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS COACH DREW WILKINS
BOWSER IS BALLING OLB Tyus Bowser dropped into coverage on 35% of his pass snaps in 2020, the second-highest rate among NFL edge defenders (min. 250 pass snaps). Bowser’s 4 career INTs currently rank fifth all time in franchise history at the LB position.

DIRECT FROM TYUS… WHAT JOB WOULD YOU HAVE IF YOU WEREN’T PLAYING PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL?
“Of course, I would pursue the NBA. But I would like to go back to school and get my master’s degree in architecture.”
WHICH GAME SHOW COULD YOU BE ON AND WIN THE TOP PRIZE?
“I’d probably have a chance at Family Feud.”
DO YOU HAVE ANY HIDDEN TALENTS?
“I played basketball when I was younger. I love to draw. I’ve been drawing since I was a kid – architect-type drawings.”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE, AND WHO SAID IT?
“A quote that one of my good teammates always told me was, 'If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.' That’s always stuck with me.”
“[With our new OLBs], we have the same mission to get to the quarterback to create pressure in the backfield. We have great guys who work hard each and every day at practice. We help each other on the field and off the field, after practice [and] before practice, shoot – even in the locker room just talking about it. These guys want it, and that’s what you need as an outside linebacker group – just guys that want to be great and want to strive to get to the quarterback. I feel great about the guys that we have.”
– OLB TYUS BOWSER

8/14 The Ravens recognized 2021 scholars (Angelica Brooks, Jamira Collins and Sarah Rad) during the game against the Saints.
2021 RAVENS SCHOLARS For the 12th-consecutive year, five outstanding Baltimore-area high school seniors who displayed remarkable academic achievement, extra-curricular participation and community service were selected as the 2021 Ravens Scholars. Funded by the Ravens Foundation, Inc., the scholarship program enables local youth to continue their education on the collegiate level. The team has a long-standing history of service to local communities, and this fund helps support those who exhibit the same commitment. Applications were accepted from students who attend public schools in Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Carroll County, areas where the Ravens operate training facilities, maintain offices and hold youth football camps.
The following students received scholarships: Angelica Brooks, a graduate of Baltimore School for the Arts High School, will attend Johns Hopkins University. Jamira Collins, a graduate of Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women, will attend Northeastern University. Oluwasefunmi Oluwafemi, a graduate of Western High School, will attend Bucknell University with the goal of becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon. Sarah Rad, a graduate of Baltimore City College High School, will attend the University of Maryland, College Park where she plans to study elementary education. Shantika Bhat, a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute High School, will attend Johns Hopkins University, where she will study neuroscience.
