M&T BANK GAME PREVIEW

QUOTH THE RAVEN “You have to take advantage of the opportunities when they come. That’s why I try to make sure that this team understands that this opportunity to go to the playoffs, to win this next ballgame, to have an opportunity for the next couple [of games], it’s so crucial. You don’t get this opportunity all the time. You have to earn it, and we did. We put ourselves in position to have a chance and make these games in December matter.” – DE Calais Campbell

Winners of two-straight games, the Baltimore Ravens (8-5) host the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-12) in a battle at M&T Bank Stadium. Baltimore has secured at least eight victories for the 12th time in head coach John Harbaugh’s 13 seasons, and once again, is in the thick of the playoff race, looking to capture its third-straight postseason berth. In a battle for the ages and one of the best games ever played on Monday Night Football, the Ravens come off a thrilling 47-42 victory over the host Browns. Baltimore twice held 14-point leads, but the high-powered Cleveland attack kept climbing back, eventually taking a 35-34 edge midway through the fourth quarter after QB Lamar Jackson left the game with cramps. After Jackson’s backup, QB Trace McSorley, went down with a knee injury with 2:12 remaining, No. 8 returned from the locker room on the ensuing 4th-and-5 play, ultimately connecting with WR Marquise Brown for an improbable 44-yard TD to give Baltimore the lead (a RB J.K. Dobbins 2-point conversion made the score 42-35). Cleveland then drove 75 yards in 47 seconds to tie the score, setting up Jackson’s next drive (38 yards) that put K Justin Tucker in position to hit a game-winning 55-yard FG with :02 remaining. (A late safety by CB Marlon Humphrey on multiple desperation laterals by Cleveland led to the final score.) Jackson rushed for 2 TDs and 124 of the Ravens’ 231 ground yards, also completing 11-of-17 passes for 163 yards and the TD to Brown. TE Mark

NUMBERS TO RAVE ABOUT 7 Entering Week 15, the Ravens rank No. 1 in the NFL in forced fumbles and No. 2 in fumble recoveries (11). With three games to play, Baltimore’s 24 FFs rank second in single-season franchise history, just 2 short of the record (26) set by the 2000 Ravens (XXXV Super Bowl champions). ON HIS FEELINGS ABOUT THE RAVENS PLAYERS: “I love these guys, and it’s not because they’re football players or because they play for us. It’s for who they are. They have the hearts of lions. For guys to be able to [win last Monday] and to make those plays at the end when it counted the most, it just says so much about their character and who they are, their trust and their belief – belief in what they believe in and believing in each other.”

MATT STOVER THE UNSUNG HERO OF BALTIMORE'S FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP BY DAN HOROWITZ

Since the team’s inception in 1996, the Ravens own the NFL’s best field goal percentage (85.9%), and it all started with K Matt Stover. After spending five years with the Cleveland Browns (1991-95), Stover joined the Ravens when the franchise moved to Baltimore, and then he donned the purple and black for 13 seasons (1996-2008). He was the

Ravens’ first kicker and the last player with ties to both franchises. During his tenure in Charm City, Stover played in 207 games, connecting on 354-of-418 field goal attempts (84.7%) and 402-of-403 (99.8%) extra point tries. He owns 12 game-winning field goals, and his 1,464 points still stand as the most in franchise history.

While the Ravens’ Super Bowl run in 2000 served as a blueprint for how defenses win championships, perhaps no team has ever leaned single-footedly on its kicker as much as the Ravens did that magical season. From Week 5 to Week 9, the team suffered an infamous five game, touchdown-less drought. During that stretch, Stover hit 14 field goals, and the Ravens miraculously pulled out back-to-back road victories at Jacksonville and at Cleveland. “To win two of [five] games where you don't score a touchdown is something that I don't think will ever be repeated in the NFL,” proclaimed owner Steve Bisciotti during Matt Stover’s retirement press conference on May 26, 2011. “Also, we're allowed a little hero worship around here in Baltimore with our kicker, because it's tangible. And I can go back to that and say that Baltimore might be still searching for [its] first Super Bowl if it wasn't for [Stover] and what [he] accomplished at that time when our offense was struggling.” So, “hero worship” your kickers, Baltimore – you have good reason to.

TODD HEAP A DEEP DIVE INTO HEEEAP! BY DAN HOROWITZ

If you attended a game at “The Bank” between 2001-10, you either brought “Heeeap!” to life or beared witness the 70,000-plus fans showing their appreciation for TE Todd Heap with the deafening roar. And if you watched from home, you heard it over the network broadcast and probably chimed in, too. Drafted by the Ravens in the first round (31st overall) of the 2001 NFL Draft, Heap became a mainstay on an offense that featured nine different starting quarterbacks over his 10 seasons in Baltimore.

a synchronized display of affection by the Baltimore faithful. And so, “Heeeap!” it was. “I was willing to do whatever it took to get the football,” Heap once said. “I always wanted to be known as someone who would give up his body for the team. I took some hits, but it was always something where I knew

what it took to get the job done, and I was fine with that. That's football.” Yes, Todd Heap’s one-syllable last name so perfectly fits the criteria of a stadium-wide hymn, but those things aren’t just given – they’re earned – and Heap earned every decibel of it.

Still, he earned Pro Bowl honors both in 2002 and 2003 and sits atop several Ravens annals to this day, including most career touchdown receptions (41). Heap was notorious for twisting and contorting his body through the middle of the field, often met with a vicious hit and securing an improbable catch – only to line up and do it all over again. His reliability and toughness earned him

IN OUR COMMUNITY

11/24 Torrey Smith and his wife, Chanel (not pictured), hosted a meal giveaway at Baltimore's Hilton Rec Center. Smith, who will run programming at the center, distributed Thanksgiving meals, produce and books to families in West Baltimore.

HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS Although they were unable to physically attend events in person, Ravens players and alumni were still committed to supporting the Baltimore community this holiday season. G/C Bradley Bozeman, DE Calais Campbell, CB Marlon Humphrey, RB Mark Ingram II, OLB Matthew Judon, DB/LB Anthony Levine Sr., OLB Pernell McPhee, CB Marcus Peters, CB Jimmy Smith, WR Willie Snead IV and T Ronnie Stanley joined forces to purchase nearly 2,000 turkeys and side dishes for families across Baltimore. The meals were distributed to pre-selected families at various schools, community centers and churches throughout the city.

Ravens alumni also continued to be a positive force in the Baltimore community. Ravens director of player engagement and former LB Jameel McClain, former LB Bart Scott, former WR Torrey Smith and Hall of Fame S Ed Reed all hosted events that supported over 6,000 individuals across the Baltimore community with a Thanksgiving meal. As a continued promise to the communities they’ve served for several consecutive years during the holidays, alumni players supported families from the Salvation Army, the Helping Up Mission men’s homeless shelter, the SEED School of Maryland, Booker T. Washington Middle School and the Hilton Recreation Center.

Through the annual Foods & Funds Drive, the Ravens surpassed all previous collection totals and raised over $500,000 in 2020 to generate up to 1.5 million meals for food-insecure Marylanders.

12/8

DB/LB Anthony Levine Sr. (above), alongside several of his teammates, supported various nonprofit organizations dear to their hearts with customized cleats through the NFL's My Cause My Cleats campaign.

* Leads NFL

RB Gus Edwards ran for two touchdowns in the 47-42 victory at Cleveland last Monday night. He totaled 49 yards on seven carries, helping the Ravens to 231 yards on the ground. Edwards is tied (with QB Lamar Jackson) for the team lead with six rushing TDs this season. Amazingly, Baltimore has now rushed for over 200 yards in an NFL-high 18 games since Jackson became the starting QB (Tennessee is next with 9 games). 2020 BALTIMORE RAVENS
