Though friends move on And times do change, We cling to where we've been, We remember fondly those who've shared our lives. Time to time a stranger comes, With a warm heart and a special touch. One who can be firm, Yet always with a purpose; To make us stronger, To make us better. One such person touched us. She was a freshman when we were freshmen. We have grown with her, And because of her. With special appreciation We dedicate the 1984 Blue Moon to . . . Marigolden Guest Tritschler

"The egoist in the absolute sense is not the man who sacrifices others. He is the man who stands above the need of using others in any manner. He does not function through them. He is not concerned with them in any primary manner. Not in his aim, not in his motive, not in his thinking, not in his desires, not in the sources of his energy. He does not exist for any other man — and he asks no other man to exist for him. This is the only form of brotherhood and mutual respect possible between man." AYN RAND

This fall the second annual Bancroft Boat Club Ball was held at school. Much effort in organizing and decorating for the gala event was put forth by faculty, parents, and students alike. The festivities began with a tailgate picnic, then moved indoors for a dance which culminated with the infamous mop dance, monopolized by senior Sarah Camougis. The evening, coordinated by Isa Bayon and Commodore Aleksiewicz, was a huge success once again. Halloween proved to be another successful event this year. The traditional senior satire on the faculty was wonderfully biting. This holiday also marked the beginning of the year's class competitions. Events such as pumpkin carving, donut eating, and apple bobbing were held. Although the junior class was the overall winner, the evident school spirit and colorful costumes made a winner of everyone.

68

CS% .C)

This year for the first time, the Social Committee and Spirit Club sponsored a Homecoming Dance. The evening found both soccer and hockey teams victorious on the playing fields and saw Bancroft's first Homecoming Queen crowned. Senior Jessie Boardman was crowned queen over a court comprised of Kristen Eastwood, Kerry Barrows and Heather Crone. In November, Bancroft hosted the Holiday Marketplace. With booths from all over New England, the Marketplace was a great success. The annual Lasagna Dinner was held on December 13 and as always was enjoyed by all. However the support by students and faculty and parents was the real achievement. Then, over the weekend of November 9, the Foreign Language Dept. sponsored an excursion to Quebec City, Quebec. The group of faculty, friends, and students, toured the entire city and had a wonderful time.

Bancroft began another first this year. In the midst of February cold, the first Winter Carnival was held. A week of games such as a sled pull, snow football, and even a snow sculpture contest became an addition to the class competitions. Although the juniors were the overall winners, the seniors came from behind with an amazing display of artistry to win the sculpture competition with a beautifully-crafted snow dragon. The week of events ended with a Winter Carnival dance. Senior Jeff Ward was voted King with Rob Gray, David Little, and Aaron Davis members of the court.

74

Valentine's Day saw Seth Wixted and Pam Johnstone elected Devil and Angel of the day. Two new teachers, David "Duane" Asch and Nancy Hayes were named Mr. and Mrs. Valentine. On March 8 & 9, the Powder and Wig Society presented a repeat performance of Damon Runyon's musical, "Guys and Dolls". Directed by Barrie Coontz, this show was a great success. In the lead role were seniors Will Hight as Nathan Detroit, Pam Johnstone as Adelaide, Josh Alemany as Sky Masterson and Tina Payne as Sarah Brown.

SHORELINERS

As has been the norm in the past few years, 1985 saw Bancroft dominate once again in all sports. With a record of 12-2-2, the Varsity soccer team claimed the Eastern League Title for the second year in a row. The only regular season loss went to league rival Lexington Christian Academy. Seeded fourth in the District standings, the Shoreliners went up against a tough Sutton team and lost 2-0. However, in the wake of this disappointing loss, the Eastern League All-Star Team was announced. Bancroft had placed an unprecedented six players on the starting team of eleven; seniors Al Lavine, Pete Janhunen, and Jeff Ward, with juniors Thad Coontz, Bill Bjork, and Rob Gray. The lady Shoreliners had a no less impressive season. With their found itself in the District games. After defeating its first round opponent, Bancroft was eliminated in the quarter finals. Elected to their AllStar team were Liz Commons, Amy Groves and Robin Buckingham. Amy Groves also boasted an amazing season total of 10 shut-outs in goal. With the season still going strong, it is difficult to determine the final rank of either Basketball team. Two achievements already assured by both teams are, the Eastern League Banner, and both Amy Groves and Pete Janhunen have broken the school career high scoring records.

WRESTLING

For the first time ever, this year Bancroft created a wrestling team. Due in part to strong interest generated by senior, Iffie Nasrullah, the new team began working toward its eight-match season under the tutelage of coach Carl Benander. A young and inexperienced team, Bancroft held its own against much stronger teams such as Gardner. Although more support is needed for next year, this new addition to Bancroft athletics can look forward to many successful seasons.
