BEC Fiber connected its first member on May 31, 2017. By May 2018, 1,000 members were connected, and less than a year later, 3,000 members were connected this past March.

In September, we had the honor of presenting the Law family with a 4K Roku TV at their Pipe Creek residence, the 4,000th connection on the BEC Fiber network. When we originally asked to meet Tom Law to ask how his experience was, he was happy to oblige, but when we showed up with a TV and balloons, he was surprised. He said his experience—from applying for the service to the installation was great.

The Laws moved to the area just a few short years ago, when BEC first began gathering interest for fiber internet. Elaine Law was a key figure in gathering interest in the neighborhood.

“She let all of the neighbors know, called them, sent letters,” said Tom Law. “She couldn’t wait for it to get here.”

When the Pipe Creek fiber zone opened, the Law family was one of the first member households to apply.

The Laws installed fiber on what used to be a tiny home on the property, which they converted into an office space. The couple is waiting to install service in the main house but have already seen the benefits of having a fiber-optic cable versus their previous line-of-sight internet service and have been able to telecommute for work with ease.

What used to be a tiny home brought the Laws a big win when it came to celebrating our 4,000th fiber connection. BEC continues to expand its network to businesses and neighborhoods in Bandera, Boerne, Comfort, Center Point, Medina, Pipe Creek and other areas.

We thank you for your patience as we build out the fiber network as quickly and safely as possible while keeping in mind the benefits of fiber apply to our electric reliability, and not just internet services. BEC has worked for more than 80 years to reach more than 26,000 members and install more than 36,000 meters for electricity, and we’ve rapidly reached the milestone of 4,000 fiber connections in just under 3 years.
