BEC Spreads Holiday Cheer in the Community
BANDERA ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE donated over $10,000 to local nonprofits and food pantries in December to support our communities.
Among the donation recipients were nonprofits focused on delivering Christmas to children in need, including Arms of Hope in Medina, Kendall County Cowboy Church in Comfort and Hill Country Youth Ranch in Leakey. Each of those organizations received a $1,500 donation from BEC for their youth charity programs.
The Utopia Food Pantry, Comfort Table and Food Pantry, and Silver Sage and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Bandera also received donations, totaling $6,000, from BEC. These organizations serve Bandera, Kendall and Uvalde counties.
With the continued rise in inflation and increased cost of groceries, organizations that support our communities need assistance more than ever.
“BEC has continuously been one of our larger donors,” said Evelyn O’Hara, Utopia Food Pantry secretary. “We would not be able to operate without donors like BEC. We greatly appreciate BEC, not only by the volunteers of UFP but also by the community we serve.”
Food pantries have an enormous responsibility to provide nutritionally balanced meals and other social services to their communities’ most vulnerable members.
“Thank you, BEC, for their continued support and for helping our seniors,” said Art Crawford, CEO of Silver Sage. “This donation will go to our Meals on Wheels program.”
BEC supplied 25 turkeys to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for a holiday distribution December 21 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Additionally, the society received a check for over $800 to provide holiday assistance for families in Bandera County.
BEC continually strives to uphold the cooperative principle of Concern for Community by maintaining focus on member needs for the sustainable development of its communities.
