Student Senate has first ‘Town Hall’ of the semester Dana Davis Staff Writer Student Senate welcomed students to the first meeting of the fall semester on Sept. 5. Student Senate currently has seven members. They include: President Kayla Wilkerson, Vice President Nicholas Fulton, Treasurer Gabe Shetler, Sophomore Representative Maysen Moorehead, Public Relations Chair Peyton Colbert, Student Life Representative Zoey Stenson and Greek Life Representative Zachary Mitchell.

During the meeting, President Wilkerson addressed some improvements that Senate is trying to implement. One of those improvements is to install display televisions in buildings to show what is happening around campus. Wilkerson said this will eliminate flyers and modernize our campus. Another change she addressed is the change or Orgsync. Orgsync was an online student portal for access to forms, files, and applications from around the campus. Now, Muskingum Uni-

versity Students can use Presence, or otherwise known as “Net 2 Go.” Along with these changes, Wilkerson expressed the need for more members on Student Senate. “As you can see, we are composed of seven members currently, we need six more people to fill some positions. We need a freshmen class rep, a junior class rep and a senior class rep. We are also in need of an executive ambassador, who would coordinate with Student Life. We also need Diversity Relations. That person

is charged with working with the Multicultural Affairs office and making sure the minority’s on campus needs are met. We also need a Chief-of-Staff.” Students wanting to run will need 20 votes and a 2.7 cumulative GPA average.

Student Senate General Assembly meetings, now named “Town Hall,” are every other Wednesday starting at 6 p.m. On off weeks, Student Senate meets during an executive meeting to decide on finances and other issues.

New Concord Police Department to use new and more efficient program Dana Davis Staff Writer New Concord Chief Mindy Peck explained Sept. 11 to village council about a new program that the NCPD has adopted. The program, called “New World,” will save time and confusion, and make going on 911 calls more efficient for the officers. “It brings up our mapping. It’ll show you, like a little needle, right on your address and it’ll show our cruiser. It shows us where to go. Everything you tell the dispatcher, they’re send-

ing us a text, right on our screen. So we know your name, description. It’s to cut back on so much traffic,” Peck said. Peck is excited to begin using the program and says that both she and her officers like it so far. “I like it. My guys like it. It’s like everything else with new technology, just getting used to it. Just trying to learn how to do everything,” Peck said. Peck ensures that nothing will change for the caller. Citizens will still get the same service, but the program will make

it easier for officers to have a quicker response time and more accurate information. Peck said the department will be accustomed to “New World” by the first of the year. Council will meet again on Monday, Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in Village Hall. New Concord Village Council meetings air every day at 7 a.m., noon and 7 p.m. on Orbit Television (New Concord Cable 1020) and can be heard on WMCO 90.7 every Sunday and Wednesday at noon.

Editorial: Should the Browns start Baker Mayfield? Michael Pagano Staff Writer No, and the answer should stay no, as long as Tyrod Taylor stays healthy. I even believe that Drew Stanton should play over Baker, which will not happen due to Stanton being third on the depth chart, but he has a lot of experience in the NFL. The goal should be for Baker not to play a single snap this season. Have the Browns not seen how poorly all their other rookies they played in their rookie year did? I don’t care that Baker was the first pick in this year’s draft. Look at the last four examples and what happened to rookie quarterbacks that the Browns played their first year. Colt McCoy, who had to play due to injuries admittedly, did not play well at all and was out of Cleveland after three seasons. Brandon Weeden, who was a 28-year old rookie to begin with after playing a few seasons of professional baseball, was out of Cleveland after two seasons. Johnny Manziel, who had many off-field issues to begin with, was out of Cleveland

after two seasons. Finally, last year’s starter DeShone Kizer, got thrown into a role that he definitely was not ready for, was out of Cleveland after just one season. If this doesn’t show you that the answer is no, then I don’t know what will. Baker Mayfield may end up being a great quarterback some day for the Browns, but if they make the same mistake they have already made several times before, Baker will more than likely never be the quarterback the Browns are hoping he becomes. Hype has a lot to do with many rookie quarterbacks getting thrown into starting, but hardly does it ever work out for the team, especially the Browns. The fact this is even a question is amazing to me, the Browns have a perfectly capable quarterback in Tyrod Taylor to play. Is Taylor the best quarterback in the league? No, but is he a lot better than Baker would be? I believe so, and this is because Tyrod has been in the NFL for seven seasons and has gone to a Pro Bowl. Taylor has done pretty well over his first few games as the Browns

starter, and the most important thing is he gave the Browns a chance to win in these games which is all you can ask for. Tyrod can’t do anything about missed kicks. I would say the most important thing Tyrod does for the Browns is give them hope. Browns fans for the first time have hope that they will finally, at least, win some games. Another thing is players like Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes both had to sit for at least a year before getting their chance to shine. Rodgers is going to be a Hall of Famer more than likely, and Mahomes is off to a great start as the starter for the Chiefs this season. I know Baker Mayfield came into the game at the end of the first half when Tyrod Taylor got a concussion in the Brown’s third game; they won. He played phenomenally and will start now for the Browns. I still believe Tyrod needs to be the starter and Baker needs to mature a year before everyone gets to excited about him and he becomes “the guy” for the Browns. We will see how he plays for the rest of the season.
