Jim Jim Falls After getting in your cultural dose of outback Australia, take a detour further south to the Australian National Heritage listed Jim Jim Falls. Take the 2km return walk through the forest and over rocky boulders to the 200m falls. A site to soak up in itself and get wet in the plunge pool below. You can spend the night here at the Garnamarr Campground and if you have time, check out the nearby Twin Falls another towering beast at 150m.

Nourlangie Rock After exploring Ubirr, head south to Nourlangie Rock. This is another sacred Aboriginal site with well preserved rock art and views of the famous Arnhem Land escarpment sandstone rock formations.

Take the Yurmikmik Walk out 3.5km to this natural gem where you can swim in the pool below and be surrounded in monsoonal rainforest and a stunning waterfall. Take the return walk back and keep an eye out for Wallaroos and birds.

Take the time to move slowly through the park and appreciate everything it has to offer. It’s best in the dry season but can be done all year round. Kakadu National Park is the perfect place to chill out in natural pools, hike to waterfalls, take in some culture and soak up some of the best of outback Australia.
