Work Ready CBT Summary for Therapists Session 1:
Modify the usual agenda to include the situation in the workplace Education (stress, stress responses, positive relabeling, hurt vs. harm, problem solving, relaxation). Strategies/treatment of symptoms related to diagnosed disorder Provide information on Work related rationale (can be found on Arete website). There is also a therapist instruction available. If client is ready to start thinking about source of problems: provide stress inventory that can be found on Arete Website, as it can assist clients to manage their problems and regain confidence, structure and overview. There is also a therapist instruction available. Introduction of return to work, exploration of work setting and any barriers to return to work List psychological problems and issues affecting employee’s RTW to be included in Initial report Fill out together with client Workplace Information to include in Initial Report
Homework session 1: Provide instructions on online diary (print of Arete website) and ask client to print of for next session http://www.findingoptimism.com/ Provide suitable exercise program handouts (print of Arete website, sedentary, moderate or active individuals) If feasible provide the Stress Inventory information from the Arete Website. Choose other homework modules when feasible (print of Arete website and hand out to client) like worrying assignment, writing assignment and time management. There are also handouts on that can be provided on topics like managing anger and worrying and working on relaxation and relationship building skills. Many of these tools have been used successfully in programs in the Netherlands and you are very much encouraged to use them in your own treatment sessions, as they will help clients to regain confidence, structure and overview. There is also a website managed by Dan Bilsker where you can find worksheets on for example challenging depressive thinking, reality questions and goal setting. Session 2:
Review of assessment and homework. Discuss print of online diary and address upcoming issues. Discuss exercise program and address upcoming issues. Discuss that a RTW plan will be created after the 4-5 session and therapy sessions will provide input for the plan. Benefits of work characteristics (such as structure and social contact) are identified and documented. Further information gathering and education Strategies/treatment of symptoms related to diagnosed disorder Formulation of goals for treatment Setting expectations for treatment and following sessions If not already handed out in first session: provide Stress Inventory information that can be found on Arete Website as it can assist clients to manage their

Discuss progress in exercise program and daily activities Strategies/treatment of symptoms related to diagnosed disorder Carry out problem analysis template to provide insight on client´s job tasks as this needs to be included in progress report Discuss Stress Inventory Worry Management Strategies If appropriate, clients can begin to re-engage in work activities. Such as meeting co-workers, attending work meetings, work celebrations, etc. Ensure that client is communicating with case manager & other relevant stakeholders Choose other homework modules (print of Arete website and hand out to client)
Session 4 and 5:
Discuss progress in exercise program and daily activities Discuss contents of template problem analysis. Discuss issues related to returning to work. Ask client to rank tasks they find difficult to perform, ranging from simple and specific to complex and unstructured. Discuss measures that need to be taken to implement the tasks they find difficult to perform. Discuss measures that need to be taken to overcome non task related problems Discuss strategies in case of relapse/setback Benefits of work characteristics (such as structure and social contact) are once again emphasized. Discuss progress in home work assignments Strategies/treatment of symptoms related to diagnosed disorder Prepare RTW plan: estimated steps (in terms of time), until full RTW has been achieved Communicate with Case Manager to discuss GRTW Planning after session 4 Case manager will prepare a RTW plan with input from therapist and client gathered in the sessions
Therapist submits progress report within 5 days after session 4
Session 6:
Discuss progress in exercise program, daily activities and home work assignments Strategies/treatment of symptoms related to diagnosed disorder Problem solving strategies are put into action. Relapse prevention is discussed and strategies are prepared. Discuss prepared RTW plan
