What is The Stronger Carers program?

The Stronger Carers program is designed to support and empower people who care for loved ones with dementia at home.

A Carer Coach works directly with the carer to help them build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for their role.

This fully-funded program, provided by the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care, is free to participate in. It runs for 8 weeks, with 6 weeks of in-home visits and 2 weeks of virtual or phone support.

Coaching takes place in the comfort of your home, where a Coach provides personalised advice for your care needs including:

• Providing valuable information on dementia diagnosis, progression, and management.

• Offering strategies to support the wellbeing of the carer and individual living with dementia.

• Assisting with the development of a respite plan and locating local respite options like inhome care, day centres or emergency respite.

• Sharing educational resources on activities and strategies for both carers and the individual living with dementia.

• Connecting carers with other carers and organisations for ongoing support.

• Assisting with access to dementia-friendly equipment and technology

How do I access the program?

The Stronger Carers program is available to any carer of an individual living with dementia at home and located in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).
